BELIEVE THE HYPE? Personalized acne care.
You’ve seen the ads and the YouTube videos right? You were skeptical too? YUP, me too. Is Curology worth the investment? We’ve all seen the ads and videos. I caved in 6 months ago and decided to try curology . Last fall my skin started to break out and I had a hard time getting it under control, so I said why not and ordered my first bottle of curology . My first bottle was a really, in my opinion, generic formula. My formula was Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, and Clindamycin. From working in a dermatology office, I knew my formula wasn’t anything special. I noticed other reviews that had the same formula, so my guess is that is the “go to” formula for basically everyone. The first formula didn’t do much for me so I reached out to my curology Dr. and she changed my formula for me. My new formula added Zinc into it and I instantly started to see a difference in my skin. Curology - Curology formula

Products that helped my acne
I’ve struggled with acne since 7th grade (I’m 20 now). I have used a lot of products and there are a handful I want to share that have really helped me get closer to my clear skin goal. PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator this is by far the best product I’ve ever used. My skin looks smoother and my acne has subsided tremendously. I can’t get enough of this. (I use it twice a week, working up to three). I really do believe this product is essential for clearer skin! CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin this moisturizer has been my go to for about 5 years. It always keeps my skin hydrated and really helped when I was on acne prescriptions because my skin would always get really dry. Curology - Curology formula I have a whole post dedicated to this, but it really did help me a lot. I like having dermatologist prescriptions over other treatments. So, this was a great option for me and worked wonders! CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin I used to use the harshest face washed out there and strip my skin completely. This cleanser really helped me repair my moisture barrier and was gentle. My skin started looking really good after about 12 uses of this. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% this stuff is a miracle in a bottle!! My face is way less sensitive and my oils are under control. The redness from my acne subsides with the help of this product and I find it to help my acne heal and become smaller faster. Kate Somerville - EradiKate Acne Treatment this treatment really helped me when I had minimal breakouts. This dried out my pimples over night and helped them go away faster. This was a really nice treatment and I plan on using it again when my face is clearer and I no longer feel the need to continue curology!!
How I Cleared My Acne in 3 MONTHS!!!
I‘ve struggled with cystic hormonal acne for years, but when I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer, I didn’t imagine I’d experience the worst breakout of my 27 years of life... I was so overwhelmed and stressed, that I honestly forgot all about my skincare until it looked like this! And just like breast cancer, cystic acne hurts physically and mentally, but I had to regain control. I couldn’t control what was happening to me, but I could refocus, change my perspective, and restart my skincare routine 😅 Then I was gifted this medically personalized product to try and this is was my three month progress! 👏🏼✨ It’s different for everyone, but I noticed a difference in my skin after 4 weeks of consistent use. I’d say, it’s definitely worth a try, so I’ll leave a link to a 1-month trial for $4.95! http://curolo.gy/RebeccaSantos (No, I don’t get commission or any form of payment for this post or if you use my link.) This Is Why I Hate The Hype..
Being on social media such as Instagram and Snapchat means being faced with a hundred-n-1 advertisements for a wide range of products varying from clothes, to jewelry, to even skincare. I am sure everyone of us on there has seen an ad for Curology. At first, I couldn’t be bothered to stop and read about it, but over time, and after seeing SO. MANY. sponsored posts, I was drawn to it. I had to see for myself what the hype was all about, and if it could cure my acne. Eventually, about two months ago, I caved. As Curology - Curology formula is an online business, I had to answer their mini quiz online, post pictures of my skin to them, and wait for the delivery of the “holy grail” that it was marketed to be. Before caving, I did do my research and read that it helped most people if they waited patiently for the results. So, when the product finally arrived with ingredients tailored “perfectly” for my skin (Clindamycin 1%, Azelaic Acid 4%, and Zinc Pyrithione 0.25%), I was beyond excited! The packaging was really aesthetic and minimalist, which I thought was a pro. The product itself is cream-based and thin/light, which I liked on my skin. The best part is that it cost me $5 for that first bottle! I started that very night, and I was sure that I would wake up with picture perfect skin, although that was quite optimistic on my part. Needless to say, this was not the case the next morning, but I figured it would take consistent usage and some time to get me to my desired end result. So, I waited and waited, then I waited some more. My skin, after 1.5 months of using, had NOT reached what Curology had promised. In fact, the texture of my skin was a worse than before, and it was drying out! Even more, the product in the bottles is so little, and I had to reorder the product within the 1.5-month timeframe despite the fact that it was meant to last 2 months, so I ended up spending more (it costs $40 for two months after the initial $5)! I finally decided to stop using it, very dissatisfied. I guess I won’t be swayed so easily anymore.
Bye-bye acne, thanks to French drugstore brand!
Darphin is a French brand that specializes in skincare made from botanical ingredients and essential oils. I got this balm last year when I traveled in Paris. It’s a highly-potent, fast-absorbing balm to fight the look of redness and acne, while instantly increasing brightness, radiance, and luminosity. I am a skincare junkie so I am very strict on what I apply to my skin. This has great ingredients and helped clear my acne as well as help prevent breakouts from happening. A lot of products tend to tingle and burn on my skin but this one did not give me that horrible sensation. Love it over all !
DARPHIN-Aromatic Purifying Balm
I’ve been using Curology for 11 weeks, currently on my second formula. I really enjoy how the formula is created for your skin and what your skin needs. So the formula can change along the way if you realize you want to target something new. It is great that you actually have a provider who will answer any questions you have regarding your formula/skincare routine. But having to go through a purging stage and trial-and-error for the ‘right’ formula is not too great. Some people see improvements immediately, while some don’t. And I am in the latter group. My first formula was 4% Azelaic Acid, 4% Niacinamide, and 1% Clindamycin. I purged A LOT with this formula and the purging never stopped. Luckily for me, my skin was not dry so I was able to continue using a light cream. At week 8, I started a new consultation and my provider changed my formula to 8% Azelaic Acid, 0.25% Zinc Pyrithione, and 1% Clindamycin remained unchanged. With the new formula, my purging has ceased but my texture is getting worse. I unfortunately have seen no improvements, but I am willing to be patient and wait. If this formula does not work, I will be requesting for a formula change by week 16. If that does not help by week 24, I will probably reconsider Curology since it is a pricey subscription.
How do you heal and treat your skin?
✨I’m gonna share with you my nighttime treatment my skin really appreciates, and how I wake up with much cleaner and radiant skin. ✨ For a very long time , I would always wake up with dull skin and uneven texture. There won’t be any radiance or glow , and its sort of demotivating to start the day like that. Acne wasn’t a big problem but it did occur few times a month and would always leave scars or blemishes. ✨ A while ago I came across a Acne Treatment oil called ‘Meltdown’ by @blume 💕 ✨ What is it? It’s an oil for Acne Prone Skin which you can use to prevent acne, clear acne and blemishes. It’s a blend of all natural ingredients. ✨ Key Ingredients Rosehip, Blue Tansy, Tamanu, Lavender, Black Cumin Seed ✨ My thoughts At nighttime, I usually cleanse my with @blume milk based face wash ‘Daydreamer’ . I really like it because its so creamy and gentle. It doesn’t irritate my eyes or skin. To use ‘Meltdown’ , I mix a few drops of this essential oil based serum with @milkmakeup moisturizer. It calms down any inflammation I have and its a perfect nighttime treatment to heal my skin. Now I wake up with much clearer skin which I can feel confident about and start my day. It really heals the skin overnight and any acne I have goes away in a week or so. Its been amazing to clean up the blemishes, and there are only a few areas left. Also, for the people who weren’t able to use @milkmakeup vegan moisturizer because its too rich, I think it would be a great idea to mix it with an oil/serum so it suits your skin. - - What’re your favourite nighttime treatments? Let me know what you think ☺️ BLUME - Daydreamer Face Wash BLUME - Meltdown Oil for Acne-Prone Skin Milk MAKEUP - Vegan Milk Moisturizer

Acne Scar Cream/Balm
Was not expecting much from this cream but it has become one of my fav products!! It has incredibly healing/calming ingredients that I found to actually work. I’ve noticed a big difference in my scar redness day-to-day as well as overall scar appearance over time. My skin looks hydrated, soothed and soft— highly recommend as a nighttime moisturizer!
Dr. Jart+-Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Cream
I used this gel too with the Derma e acne cream. This has panthenol & allantoin ingredients. For older scars apply twice a day for 3-6 months. For new scars, apply 2-3 times daily for 8 weeks. Scoop a small amount and gently massage into skin. I’m using for my acne scars. I will post results in the future. 🤓
