Brand Breakdown: Glow Recipe

Hey y’all! In today’s Brand Breakdown, we’re talking about Glow Recipe. Glow recipe was founded in 2014 bu Christine Chang, and Sarah Lee, two Korean Americans. Today I’ll be breaking down the ingredients of 4 of their most popular products. Let’s start with the GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask
with is $42 for .5 fl oz. This face mask features retinol as the title suggests, and it also has avocado oil and extract, as well as coffeeberry. Avocado oil and extract have Vitamin E and C, and are also nourishing. Coffeeberry, which is the seed of a coffee plant, has a lot of antioxidants. It also has glycerin and squalane which are hydrating, as well as Nicinamide, Hylaronic acid, and aloe vera gel. I will mention that this product has a lot of potentially irritating extracts as well as fragrance. Next is one of their most popular products, the GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask
which is $45 for 2.7 fl oz. This mask has has 2 main ingredients. Watermelon extract, and Hylaronic acid. By this point y’all know all about Hylaronic acid (and if you don’t, check out my Skincare Acid Cheat Sheet), so let’s talk about watermelon extract. If you read my Brand Breakdown on Clean & Clear, you’ll know that watermelon extract is an amazing ingredient, and watermelon juice isn’t. Luckily, in this product it’s watermelon extract, which is very soothing and hydrating. This product also has glycerin and Glycolic acid in it. It does however have a lot of fragrance, irritating extracts, and alcohol. Next up is the #GLOW RECIPE - Papaya Sorbet Smoothing Enzyme Cleansing Balm Makeup Remover[products]# with is $32 for 3.4 fl oz. Supposedly the main draws of this product are papaya enzymes, papaya seed oil, and blueberry extract. Now blueberry extract and papaya seed oil are not very researched ingredients that have only minimal effects on the skin. Papaya enzymes are mildly exfoliating, but don’t do much else. The cleansing balm is pretty basic other than this. And finally is the #GLOW RECIPE - Pineapple Vitamin C Serum[products]# which is $49 for 1 fl oz. The marketing for this product is around its pineapple juice and Vitamin C. This product is super lacking for the price. The same way watermelon juice is less good for your skin than watermelon extract (because it’s diluted), pineapple juice is less effective than pineapple extract. Other than that, this product has Vitamin C which is great but very mainstream. This product also has fragrance. Those are all the products I have for today. I would say they got gradually worse as we went on, which I didn’t even do on purpose. This brand is quite expensive for it’s actual formulations, and I think there are better brands that are cheaper. If you can splurge, splurge on Youth to the People instead. Please cheer for this post, follow me for similar content, and comment below your favorite Youth to the People product. -Mae

Avocado for the win! 🥑
GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask (((Yes I used a real avocado as a prop! lol))) 🥑 What it is: “A gentle but powerful eye sleeping mask formulated with avocado, encapsulated retinol, coffeeberry, and niacinamide. Long-lasting actives release throughout all hours of the night to help moisturize, brighten, fight fine lines, and de-puff.” 🥑 “Key Ingredients: 💚Avocado- A nutrient-dense fruit rich in antioxidants such as Vitamin E & Vitamin C, which are known to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and environmental aggressors. Contains both avocado oil and avocado extract for the ultimate soothing and nourishing experience. 💚Encapsulated Retinol- Helps to rejuvenate the skin and achieve firmer-looking skin. Encapsulation allows the retinol to release smaller amounts at a time, making it more gentle than traditional retinol treatments. 💚Niacinamide- A water-soluble vitamin (B3) and antioxidant that works with the natural substances in your skin to help visibly improve the appearance of dullness, fine lines and wrinkles, and to help brighten the appearance of dark circles. 💚Coffeeberry- Packed with antioxidants, coffeeberry (the seed of the coffee plant) helps to soothe skin, and is a natural source of caffeine that can help reduce puffiness and the appearance of dark circles.” 🥑Price: $42.00 (15mL) 🥑Side Note: “Free Of: Parabens, Mineral Oil, Sulfates, Silicones, Phthalates, Alcohol, Synthetic Dyes, Synthetic Fragrance. Leaping Bunny Certified Cruelty-free.” 🥑How to Use: “(To Use As An Eye Sleeping Mask)- After cleansing, apply a pea-sized amount to the entire orbital eye area and gently pat into skin using ring finger for optimal absorption. Apply nightly. Do not layer with other eye creams. Use before applying serums. (To Use As A Daytime Eye Treatment)- Follow instructions above. Layer SPF that is safe for the eye area on top of the formula.” 🥑My thoughts: I’ve been using this eye mask nightly (I use a different eye cream for daytime) for the past month and I’m really enjoying it. It’s very creamy and rich, has a nice subtle scent, absorbs well, and does a great job of moisturizing my under eye area without irritating it. I’ve noticed an improvement in my dark circles, and although I don’t have a big issue with puffiness, my eye area is smoother overall. This product is pretty expensive, but you get a lot of product in the jar and a little goes a very long way. Between the great results so far and the fact that Glow Recipe is a vegan and cruelty free brand, I do recommend this product! 🥑Tip: The opening to the jar is quite small, so don’t lose the cute little scooper that comes with it!

Mini brand review ✨ Glow Recipe 🍉
Yay for bringing back mini brand reviews! 🥰 This is where I do a couple sentences on every product I’ve tried from a brand. If you have any questions or want an in depth review on a product comment below! GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask - I love this! Creamy formula melts into the skin without being too heavy. Very hydrating but I would only use 2-3x a night. Good beginner retinol. GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask- They don’t make this anymore but I did like it! A hydrogel sheet mask that felt resfreshing on the skin. I didn’t see many benefits though. GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask - The texture is not for everyone but I like it! It’s a little goopy but it does absorb into the skin once worked in. It smells like watermelon jolly ranchers. I would say oily skin only and only she 2-3x a week but I loved the mild exfoliation. GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer - I love this for oily skin! Smells like the sleeping mask but not as strong. Adds a lot of hydration without feeling heavy or sticky. GLOW RECIPE - Limited Edition Lip Pop Duo - I feel like it’s overpriced for what it is but if you’re interested it’s a nice product. It has a waxy feel but it’s very lightweight and nourishing. Both smell AMAZING!! Has mild exfoliation that doesn’t stay long on the lips and a really pretty natural tint. GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops - Again, over priced for what it is but I still like it. The serum feels amazing on the skin and gives all the benefits on niacinamide. Smells like watermelon but it’s a lot fainter than their other products. It doesn’t give a “glow” like they claim though. It’s more a “dolphin” skin effect that doesn’t last long. I would not use over make up though as it has your typical serum consistency.

These 3 products from glow recipe are my all time favorite. I’ve been using all 3 everyday for about a month and I can most definitely see results. My skin is so soft I can’t even put into words and my pores are smaller and my skin just looks healthier and glowing. They are more on the pricey side but worth the money to me I would recommend this for EVERYONE!

Bath Bombs or Bubbles? 🛁
Bath Bombs or Bubbles? 🛁
I've been spending a lot of my time during this quarantine on selfcare, and for me that means a lot of baths! Lush is known for their bath bombs and bubble bars, but I have a definite favorite. THE BATH BOMBS! I prefer the bath bombs over the bubble bars because they're way more concentrated giving you more bang for you buck! I love all the choices there are in the bath bomb category, there's something for everyone! Day time happy and uplifting scents, relaxing night time scents, bath bombs for couples, anything you could imagine! I always step out of the bath with smooth, soft and hydrated skin. The bubble bars are just what they sound like, you crumble them under running water and they fill your tub with bubbles. The scent of the bubble bars isn't super strong, unlike the bath bombs, and the bubbles don't last the entire bath. I prefer bubbles that I can pick up in Target to the lush bubble bars. The bars do last for a few baths since you only need to use about a third of the bar! What's your favorite Lush bath bomb or bubble bar? Leave your answers down in the comments! DUPE ALERT $6 vs $48
DUPE ALERT $6 vs $48
MHM you click on this to save some coin! Uhm.. Glow Recipe who? Trader Joe’s just came out with these Watermelon skincare products and I’m OBSESSED! These are exactly like the GR watermelon products, but a much better price! Not as cute of an aesthetic, but for prices under $10 I’ll take it! Hit up Trader Joe’s BC U NEED THESE. TRADER JOE'S - Watermelon Mask and Facial Mist Set Watermelon Overnight Face Mask has the same consistency as the GR. use as overnight mask or wash off mask. smells delicious. Like a sweet watermelon candy. water/gel based consistency. made with plant derived squalane and watermelon fruit water and seed extract. Squalane is great for hydration. hydrates, smooths, and brightens your skin. contains glycolic acid for exfoliation sodium hyaluronate aka form of hyaluronic acid. absorbs into the skin perfect so it doesn’t come off on your pillow or just in general use 2-3x a week or as needed. It’s $6.99 at Trader Joe’s and does the same exact thing as the Glow recipe watermelon mask. So should you settle for the dupe? Absolutely! Is it missing some things compared to Glow Recipe? yes. Glow Recipe has the cute packaging and a few more added ingredients that will do a little more for your skin. GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask made with watermelon extracts. hyaluronic acid for hydration (TJ has Sodium hylauronate) AHA blend of lactic and glycolic Acid to gently exfoliate ( TJ mask has glycolic acid ) peony root brightens and smooths skin. Basically all that you are missing is AHAs that add in some extra exfoliation. This is the best dupe I’ve come across in a good while and I’m happy to share it with everyone! Check out your local Trader Joe’s to pick one up!

Hey Guys! So today I’m gonna be talking about my fav new under eye mask! I have dark under eye circles and sometimes they’re super puffy. BIOREPUBLIC SKINCARE - Lost Baggage Under Eye Emergency Repair Mask This is my first time using any under eye masks because I just felt they wouldn’t work but I really like these and they did feel less puffy after and the serum felt great! My friend recommended putting them in the fridge before and I loved the cooling sensation it gave and I’m pretty sure it aided in the de-puffing of my eyes. It was super hydrating and the serum was filled with Hyaluronic acid which I love! I definitely wanna try some new products that aid with under eye repair it for right now this would be my go to. It’s not the cheapest as one pair runs about $5 but I’m sure if I buy in bulk it can be cheaper. Any tips and tricks on helping with under eye circles would be greatly appreciated! Hope this helps you guys find something that works for you! BESOS 😘

UPING MY MEDITATION GAME🔮
UPING MY MEDITATION GAME🔮
I decided to add some extra self love to my new found meditation today! I wanted something easy and that will stay on my face while I lay down and that won’t get in the way of my chakra stones I use 😇 I found these babies at target... where else...? 🤣 The lip mask retails for $4.99 The under eye retails for $4.99 The UNDER EYE MASK stayed on the entire time and smelled softly floral. They had some protective covers that came off easily (especially since I was already laying down 🤦🏼‍♀️) I let them sit for 15 mins and I loved how they felt after. For the price I don’t think I’ll be buying again but it’s fun for today!! ❤️ The LIP MASK.... THIS WAS FREAKING WEIRD AND I DIDNT CARE FOR IT TOO MUCH..... They did have a slit in them so I could talk and breathe but it wasn’t worth it to do that since it would obvi move a bunch! It did not taste good... now you think... Katie why are you tasting them??? I WASNT 😭 the taste just kept coming into my mouth 😕 It also had a cold or tingling feeling on my lips... I’ve never done a lip mask like this and I do not plan to purchase again... but my lips were very soft after I have to give them that! Chakra stones featured: ❤️ red jasper 🧡 citrine 💛 sandstone 💚 jade 💙 turquoise 💜 amethyst Do you meditate??? I’m new to it so I’m trying different approaches 😉👏🏻 BIOREPUBLIC SKINCARE - Biorepublic Lip Mask BIOREPUBLIC SKINCARE - Lost Baggage Under Eye Emergency Repair Mask #cheriecreator
