Battle of the Top Coat pt. 3!
I decided to go a different way for this top coat and try a sparkly one. I wanted to do some Christmas/Holiday themed nails so this is what I came up with. Of course I started with my OPI - Infinite Shine Conditioning Primer that I love, next I did the deborah lippmann - Let Nature Sing Gel Lab Pro Nail Color in the shade “Lady is a Tramp” and the essie - Luxeffects Top Coat in the shade “summit of style”. I’ve had this same top coat in the rose gold formula and liked it a lot, this one missed the mark for me a bit. I was able to get these to last for about a week, and by then they were pretty chipped away at the edges. My left pointer, middle and ring finger all had chips on both sides by day 6, and my right pointer, middle and ring finger weren’t much better. Overall I recommend the shade “a cut above” in this polish over “summit of style”, it holds up better in my opinion.

Which Drugstore Gel Polish Reigns Supreme?
Do you all remember when drugstore gel polishes were all the rage a few years ago?! Everyone, including myself, coveted the extra shiny, long-lasting appeal of gel manicures but wanted quicker, more affordable alternatives. I must stress this - I’ve never had a professional gel mani. My comparisons are purely going to be based on longevity, color payoff, & shine. In this post I’m going to discuss 3 popular gel polishes at the drugstore: Sally Hansen - Miracle Gel , essie - Gel Couture Top Coat , and wet n wild - 1 Step WonderGel Nail Color . All of these formulas claim to be long-wearing, high-shine, & don’t need a UV lamp to cure like traditional gel polishes. Sally Hansen: I’m wearing the shade “tidal wave” on my thumbs & pinkies (only left hand photographed). This formula is opaque in 2 coats, has a shiny finish, and easy to apply. I topped it with its matching top coat Sally Hansen - Miracle Gel Top Coat for extra shine. I purchased this shade & top coat as a set for approx $16 a few years ago, and have not had issues with the formulas changing over time. I have 1 other shade (discontinued). They retail for $7-10 each depending where you purchase. Honestly, this formula is not worth the hype or price. This shade lasts longer on me than the other one, but no where near the brand’s claims of being long-wearing. I find that my polish chips within 2-3 days and it’s downhill from there. Easily removable with any polish remover. Essie: I’m wearing “once upon a time” on my index & ring fingers. I received this & essie - Gel Couture Top Coat in an Influenster box a few years ago. The formula has not changed over time. This shade is opaque in 2 coats, shiny, and easy to apply. Sets with a polish & top coat are $18-20 and single polishes around $10-11 depending where you purchase. The formula is true to its claims of even coverage, shine, & fade-resistant. I find this to last about the same time as the WnW polishes (keep reading!). Again, for that reason, not worth the hype or price. Easily removable with any polish remover. Wet n Wild: These are the cheapest at around $5 ea. The 2 downsides are the shade range is significantly smaller (WNW ~ 10, sally hansen ~ 100, Essie ~ 45) & availability. It appears WNW has discontinued most of this line, but you can still find them at Walgreens.com and on the WNW website. This particular shade on my middle finger, “stay classy”, is one of my all-time fave polishes I’ve worn a lot over the last few years. I also have teal shade & the formula is consistent. It’s easy to apply, opaque in 2 coats, and shiny on its own (the 1-step claim) or with Seche - Vite Dry Fast Clear Top Coat This lasts around 3 days without chipping. Easily removable. Because it lasts about the same time as its more expensive counterparts, I recommend these instead. #CheriePartner
Fall Nails with CND 🍁// Lasts Up to 1 Week
First of all, I’m not the best at painting my own nails so please don’t be too harsh. 😄😓 I usually get my nails done and go for a gel mani. I lived a really fast-paced life style and was always on the go pre-covid. But now I am able to work from home and slow down a bit. Also nail salons are closed so I have to paint my own nails. I don’t like to do gel nail polishes that have to be cured under the light...not to do myself at least. I tried doing it myself and my nails end up being damaged plus it’s hard to remove so I gravitate towards gel polishes that can be applied like regular polish. I really enjoy Essie’s gel couture, but that doesn’t have as many color options so I go for CND. Sally Hansen’s gel system is great too, but I’d say Essie and CND are my go-tos. This is a 2 step system. You don’t need a base coat, but I honestly prefer a base coat. I use a strengthening base and then CND’s base coat. I find it lasts longer. However, it is optional. CND - Stickey Base Coat Nail Tek - Moisturizing Strengthener 2 This one is in the shade “Hypnotic Dreams”. It is a chameleon shade so it shifts from green to purple depending on the light. This one is perfect for fall in my opinion. This one applied sheer, but buildable. I am wearing 3 coats. It was easy to apply and the brush was on the smaller side so it isn’t too messy. I used the CND top coat as well and it dries in 8 minutes. The top coat dries shiny and has a satin finish. This can be purchased at Walgreens, Target and Walmart. My CND nail varnish collection has expanded so quickly. The gorgeous red featured here is their 'wildfire' shade. This picture is giving me all feelings of departing from my legal career in search of a career in hand modelling. What say, fellow people? I think my hands have got what it takes. 👏😂
