update on curology

avatar
giulliana
curology seems to be working! i’ve seen less breakouts! usually when i get breakouts i get a bunch of little bumps. but now i’ve just gotten like single bigger pimples which kind of bothers me but at least i don’t get big breakouts. although this does seem to be working it dries out my skin quite a lot! my eczema is starting to flare and i’m now using the CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin
which helps my skin a lot! hopefully my skin continues to clear up and also stays hydrated! i’ll keep you guys updated.

I realized that OTC actives are no match for my skin & went the Rx way: period is 2 days out & it’s still [very] quiet for my usual congestion, inflammation, & texture issues. As a disclaimer, I have [years] of experience with both OTC & Rx actives, as well as a high tolerance for irritation, so what I’m doing most certainly isn’t suitable for everyone. CUROLOGY START DATE: September 4th MUSELY START DATE: September 10th CURRENT DATE: September 19th I take progress photos about every 5th night in the same lighting, so I’ll update the one in this post tonight. PLEASE HELP. I’m desperate to heal my skin! 😭
Y’all, I’ve struggled with skin picking for a few years. A number of months ago I committed to stopping, because I desperately wanted clearer skin. The last few months have been a journey, but for awhile I was doing great. Fast forward to a 3 days ago, and I accidentally over-exfoliated my skin. Making matters worse, I relapsed with skin picking. I didn’t think I did much damage—I noticed my behaviors and stopped immediately, but because my skin was already in a compromised state, my skin wasn’t as resilient as it has been in the past. My birthday is in 6 days, and for the past couple of weeks I made it my goal to have clearer skin by my birthday (see the before photo 😭). Had I not messed with my skin, I’d be in great shape right now, but that is not my current reality. My skin is nearly perfect, sans the wounded areas, which are...awful. I know it is unrealistic to heal my skin within the next few days, but do y’all have advice for products I could use potentially to speed things along and minimize scarring? In general, I’ve been using Curology - Curology formula up until the over-exfoliating disaster, and I’m hoping to resume it once my skin is in a better state. At the current moment, I’m not using exfoliators of any type, nor retinols or derivatives of retinol. For the past two nights I’ve been applying a mask of aloe vera, manuka honey (UMF 26), and pure jojoba oil, and leaving it on overnight, which hasn’t hurt, but I imagine there’s more I can be doing. Earlier today I applied another thin layer of honey and aloe, and left it on my face for 15-20mins, and rinsed with room temp water, followed by cold water. - I followed that up by The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. - Applied a layer of COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence - Followed it up with Curology - The Moisturizer(I use their ‘rich moisturizer). - And applied a layer of Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Tubeto the wounded areas. Posting this is embarrassing AF and really difficult for me, but I am literally desperate to get things to a better state if I can. I’m willing to try nearly anything. Please, please help if you can.

Dermatologist Created Brands! MY MOST TRUSTED BRAND, THE ONLY ONE!
Last summer, my face suffered the biggest crisis in history because of continuous business trips and frequent makeup. I have a lot of red and pimples on my cheeks, and it was also very itchy. I was so afraid that I had to go to the hospital for treatment. The doctor said there was something wrong with my skin barrier and recommended a brand of skincare products, CeraVe. CeraVe is a skincare brand developed by dermatologists with essential ceramides. Products enriched with a blend of three essential ceramides (ceramides 1, 3, and 6-II), fatty acids, and other lipids to help repair and strengthen the skin's natural barrier. Its founder is a dermatologist, so its composition is very safe and mild. Many doctors recommend this brand after you go to the hospital with skin problems. CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion $15CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin This is an ultra-lightweight facial moisturizing lotion for normal to dry skin. The ultra-lightweight formula moisturizes skin and helps protect the skin barrier. The most amazing thing about this product is that it uses CeraVe Technology. This revolutionary delivery system is called MultiVesicular Emulsion Technology (MVE). This technique can release moisturizing ingredients over the course of 24 hours, layer by layer, to help keep skin soft all day long. After the dermatologist recommended it to me, I read a lot of comments and bought this product. According to the doctor's advice, I stopped applying makeup and stopped using my nutrient-rich skincare products for the time being. After washing my face every day, I gently squeeze out this product. Its texture is white emulsion-like, which is easily absorbed by the skin. As a person with oily skin suffering from occasional adult acne, I would get put off by normal to dry skin labeling but having tried the version I knew I needed to give it a try and it didn't disappoint with its lightweight non-clogging texture.

✅CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (Normal to oily skin) - gently refreshes and cleanses your skin removing oil without disrupting the skin barrier; 3 essential ceramics, niacinamide, & hyaluronic acid. ✅Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel aloe Vera formula - cleanses and adds moisture to your skin; aloe Vera helps to hydrate your skin and the witch hazel to tighten pores and skin without drying it. I LOVE IT!! My face feels soooo refreshing when using this product. I also use this as a boost throughout the day when I need a quick freshen up from my oily forehead. ❓Bliss Glow & Hudrate day serum - niacinamide & hyaluronic acid serum. These combinations of acids are supposedly used to help reduce pore size which is why I wanted to use it. I feel like this product was decent, but not great. I believe it to work temporarily instead of permanent. ✅Miss Spa Coarse Correct (Blemish banishing serum) - Azelaic acid, hyaluronic acid, aloe leaf juice. Azelaic and hyaluronic acids help reduce inflammation, fight breakout causing bacteria and smooth the texture. This has helped more than what I thought. I needed an alternative to using retinoids because of the pregnancy. I took a chance on this one at Ulta and ended up liking it. ✨✨CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (Normal to dry skin) - MY ABSOLUTE ALL TIME FAVORITE MOISTURIZER THAT I WISH I KNEW ABOUT YEARS AGO!!!!! This moisturizer literally helps all skin types. It is a little thick because it’s a cream (creamy for sure), and I use it everywhere! I started using it for my face as a moisturizer and LOVED IT! It is forever in my skin care regimen because it definitely helped with my forehead acne when I was clearing my skin last year/beginning of this year from my job as a drill sergeant. What really amazed me about this product was during the brutal cold winter months here in Oklahoma, when I shower at night and moisturize my body afterwards, the next morning when I wake up for PT, MY SKIN IS STILL MOISTURIZED AND SMOOTH as if I just put more on! ❤️😩 I was sold! My favorite product to recommend to EVERYONE!

How I cleared my Acne - My AM and PM routine
Swipe left !! 🔙 So, my Hormonal acne is almost cleared up and I'm so excited to share with you how I cleared my acne as well as what products worked amazing for that! As shown in pictures six months back I had painful, bleeding cystic acne that flared up because of PCOS (Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome). I managed to leave them at bay now, leaving me focused on just the acne scars which are also faded a lot! I believe whoever has hormonal acne, or breakouts in general this routine will for you! So here's my morning and nighttime routine for past six months ( some products are added recently but they're helping me in maintaining my skin Acne-free) AM - @fresh Soy cleanserfresh - Soy Makeup Removing Face Wash @innisfree Panthenol 10 tonerinnisfree - Truecare Panthenol 10 Moisture Skin @naturium Hyaluronic acid essence 2% NATURIUM - Hyaluronic Acid Essence 2% @Tula Pro-Glycolic PH resurfacing tonerTULA SKINCARE - Pro-Glycolic 10% Resurfacing Toner Alternate day (replacing AHA/ @tula toner) - @naturium Vitamin C Super serum plusNATURIUM - Vitamin C Super Serum Plus @theordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% @naturium Niacinamide 12% + Zinc 2% NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% @sundayriley C.E.O Vitamin C rich hydration cream SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Azaleic acid is such a great all rounder and no brainer when it comes to treating Acne and lightening/fading dark spots. Quick overlook of it's benefits- - Anti-microbial (hence kills acne causing bacteria) - Anti-inflammatory (reduces redness and look of blemishes) -Gently exfoliates skin (Unlike potent AHA but gives similar exfoliation) - Reduces skin texture and textural irregularities - Lightens and brightens dark spots, PIH, melasma by slowing down melanin production - Works well with almost all actives including AHA/BHA, Vitamin C, Retinols - Isn't photosensitive meaning you can use it in the morning as well as at night. Curology Review
Curology - The Cleanser It’s not clear if this product is for oily or dry skin. It seems to be for dry skin and I have oily skin. It seems to be a bit thicker than the Cerave Hydrading Cleanser. I have fungal acne and I ran this product through Sezia and it has products that wont help my fungal acne. Curology - Curology formulaIt’s too early to tell if my personal formula is working. My formula is Niacinamide 4%, Clindamycin 1%, and Zinc Pyrithione .25%. I have used Zinc Pyrithione before at 1% so I don’t know if this will help. Curology - The Moisturizer This moisturizer is very light weight which is good for my oil skin, but has ingredients that are bad for fungal acne. The acne body wash has Tea Tree Oil and I’m not sure how to feel about it. Since it’s a wash off treatment and meant for the body the fragrance isn’t too bad but I don’t like the smell. Overall: I wouldn’t recommend the moisture for oily skin. I’ll wait and see if I see any results before looking at my personal formula.

Week 1 of Tretinoin and Spirinolactone Journey
Week 1 of Tretinoin and Spirinolactone Journey
This is the end of my first week going on Spirinolactone (pills for hormonal acne that I take 1x a day) and Tretinoin. This first half is a repeat of last week’s post. The new info will be right below my posted routine. I purchased both treatments from Apostrophe, so they have been prescribed by a dermatologist. My Apostrophe cream formula is 0.025% Tretinoin and 4% Niacinimide. I’ve simplified my routine to only include a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, the tret cream and a sunscreen. I have normal skin. I’m looking to add more in as I adjust to treatment. My routine is as follows: AM Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 PM Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin Apostrophe formula (using this after moisturizer so I can have a buffer between the tret and my skin) So the morning after my first night of using tret, I experienced a bit of dryness in my forehead and on my nose. The quick fix for me was applying my moisturizer on slightly damp skin, rather than waiting until my skin was completely dry. I started breaking out two nights ago. I woke up with like 8 new friends on my face overnight😫. But this could also have been due to the food I was eating over the past couple of days. I happily enjoyed my tofu scramble with sriracha knowing darn well my dermatologist told me to avoid spicy foods and soy. 🥴 So, I’m cutting off soy, spicy foods, and dairy to see whether the food led to a flare up or if this was an early start to my purge. I’ve got these painful, hard bumps on my forehead and the pimples on my cheeks feel a bit sensitive. But, I’m going to wait it out and see how I feel before I apply tret in a couple of days. I’m still applying tret 3x a week, but plan to move to every other day at the start of August. As for the Spirinolactone, I’ve had to pee waaay more often than I usually do, but so glad I’m confined to my house during time. More updates next week 😊

curology skin journey + what is my acne called?
curology skin journey + what is my acne called?
trying out curology on acne with my eczema prone skin ⭐️ i have been trying out curology for the past week. i’ve always wanted to try it since the topicals that my dermatologist has given me recently haven’t helped my skin out at all. I’ve been so fed up with my skin and it really brings down my self-confidence. worst part of this whole thing is that I don’t know what type of acne I have, therefore I don’t know which products could help clear it. I was also really scared to try curology since I know that my skin is extremely dry. I was worried that curology would completely dry out my skin. however so far, my eczema hasn’t been as bad as I imagined it to be. review (so far): Curology - The Cleanser this cleanser is pretty gentle. It doesn’t foam up and it’s more like a jelly texture. Pretty similar to the Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser . however, this does seem to dry out my skin. But this can be fixed with some ointment and moisturizer. I also cleanse twice a day which could be part of the reason why I’ve noticed that my skin has dried out so much. Curology - Curology formula now this curology formula seems to be helping quite a bit. Ever since I started using curology I have noticed the difference in my acne. I’m not sure exactly what it is but I believe that it brought down some bumps and pimples that I had previously. but of course I still do get breakouts which will hopefully start to minimize later on. Curology - The Moisturizer I know that chirology was made for mostly people with acne prone/oily skin. So I knew that the moisturizer will be a lot thinner than one that I would typically use. I don’t hate this moisturizer since it does slightly hydrate my skin. However it is not enough hydration for eczema prone skin. because of this I also have to use the CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin which i do highly recommend. i hope this helped any of you who are considering curology. i’ll keep you all updated and let you know if it works well or fails miserably. also, if you guys could maybe help on any products for my skin it would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Face acne update. Recommend sunscreen?
Face acne update. Recommend sunscreen?
Hello all! So this is an update on my face 🙂 Ive noticed theyre less red and bold,, and theres less pimples/dark spots since 12 days ago. My skin comment form the app has always been “Smooth like butter” , but two days ago I got “Happy and Well-rested” once that night... interesting lol What I use: I’m trying to be safe with my skin care. Plus I don’t want to waste more money on unreliable products. So: Cleanse: Cetaphil - Daily Facial Cleanser, morning and night Moisturizer: CeraVe - Renewing SA Lotion Topical cream: Precribed Differin , to be worn every night (cost $40 with health insurance) —- Since it’s summer and quarantine is not much of something I’d like couped up all day. I want to know if you have have any suggestions for (face) suncreens? pretty pls! Something that won’t irritate my sensitive skin? But useful to prevent from worsening my skin from the damaging sun! Stay safe every1

Why your skin might be breaking out…
Why your skin might be breaking out…
Your skin knows best. If issues arise it’s typically from an off balance in your body. Lots of things can affect the health of your skin (i.e. diet, sleep, environment, hormones etc.). Depending on your skin type, your skin can react to these factors differently. The most common reaction is seeing breakouts or developing a sensitivity. The skin has the ability to heal itself but sometimes it needs a little bit of help but if we help it too much, it freaks out. I would recommend a “skin reset”. A skin reset is when you stop using active ingredients or any treatment in your routine. This allows the body to regenerate the good bacteria on your skin. A skin reset consists of the most basic skincare steps. 1. Gentle cleanser 2.Moisturizer for your skin type 3. SPF!!! SPF is very important everyday but it is extra important when you’re skin isn’t happy because the sun is constantly attacking your skin. If your skin doesn’t clear up after 2 weeks of a skin reset, you should consider the other factors above. Hope this helps!!

Possible Nighttime Routine? 🤷🏾‍♀️❓
Possible Nighttime Routine? 🤷🏾‍♀️❓
I did some research AGAIN on a proper PM skincare regimen and I feel enlightened, AGAIN 🙄, on what I should be doing for my skin. Things learned: 1. PM skin regimens will have a few more added steps than your daytime routine 2. Use serums/face oils before cream or lotion moisturizer (depending on the oil) 3. Vitamin C must be my “go-to” for my acne prone skin🤷🏾‍♀️ 4. LAYERING IS CRUCIAL!!!!! Tonight I did the same thing I did earlier today with cleansing my face; African black soap, acne treatment with Clear Start by Dermalogica, CeraVe moisturizing cream, and misted my face with Mario Badescu. Now, upon doing my research I learned that layering your products is extremely vital to positive results ❤️, just like hair! (I looovvvveeeeeee hair care 😬) Here is exactly the order I LAYERED my products⬇️ 1. African black soap 2. Glycolic Toner 3. Eye cream 4. Acne treatment 5. Acne serum 6. Hydrating mist 7. Moisturizer 8. Face oil I am going to try this for 1 week and monitor the progress. I’ve never had a specific night routine. I typically do the same thing in the evening that I do in the mornings for my face. So, here’s to hoping for better results 🥂
