recovering from fungal acne breakout pt3

about last week i had slowly been developing texture on my forehead. in the beginning it didn’t seem like much but is has gotten worse ): ( the last video was taken on aug 2) i had recently purchased some products form naturium and my skin was doing amazing but switched out my CeraVe - Salicylic Acid Facial Cleanserfor the CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin and that’s where things took a turn for the worst although i am on curology, i still get minor break outs but my skin hasn’t gotten this bad since freshman year of high school recent skincare routine: CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin( not fa safe) NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% (new product) Curology - Curology formula NATURIUM - Marine Hyaluronic Water Cream(not fa safe, new product) GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Waterproof Makeup Remover FACE HALO - MISSHA All-Around Safe Block Aqua Sun Gel SPF50+ PA++++ as of a few days ago i have returned the CeraVe - Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skin back into my routine and have siince removed the naturium moisturizer for the boscia - Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer. ill be giving more photos updates in hopes that things will clear up (: pls like and save! xo melanie

ok soo last time i posted an update was on aug 8. here are the photos aug 9-15!😀 current routine CeraVe - Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skin NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% Curology - Curology formula boscia - Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer MISSHA - Waterproof Sun Milk, SPF 50+ PA+++ GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Waterproof Makeup Remover so i went back to using the cerave sa cleanser because the texture hd gotten a bit worse and i originally had thought the purging period was over but i was wrong. and at some point you can see how irritated the bumps looked because i actually had started picking at them lol i know really bad i don’t recommend. so things had gotten worse but are now getting better :D and you can see how that big read bump above my eyebrow had started to go away thanks to Neutrogena - Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Spot Gel i recently repurchased the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Water Creambecause i was running out of the boscia moisturizer which im currently using so im really excited to incorporate that back in my routine! ill keep posting later in hopes of my bumps going away! i hope these post have helped at least someone 💗 like and save! xo melanie

Hey everyone! I’m so impressed with the Cherie community and how much I’ve learned from others on this site already that I thought I would share my morning skincare routine! For context: I am a 24 year old who in the past year has struggled with moderate adult acne (only along the chin/jawline). In the past few months I have become very passionate about skincare and finding a skincare routine that works for me! Please leave any comments below if you have suggestions for me to add/replace in my routine! I am still somewhat new to the skincare community so any and all suggestions and comments are welcome!!☺️ First I cleanse with CeraVe - Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser while I am in the shower and I leave this cleanser on for about 2 minutes before washing it off. I love benzoyl peroxide because I found it is one of the only ingredients to be effective in fighting acne (salicylic acid didn’t do the trick😭). Second I follow with The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution for my daily exfoliation. I know it’s controversial to use glycolic acid in the morning but I’ve had a lot of people tell me it’s okay to do as long as you are following it up with a good moisturizer and sunscreen! I have some acne scarring (just redness) along my chin and jawline and I have found overtime this product has worked wonders to diminish those scars! Third I use 1% clindamycin which was prescribed by the doctor for my acne and it has been absolutely amazing combined with the benzoyl peroxide! Fourth I apply NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% I love this formulation and I use it mainly to help with the acne scarring that has occurred. Although it can be a little sticky, it gives your face a really nice glow that I just love. Fifth I apply NATURIUM - Vitamin C Super Serum Plus this product contains a cocktail of fabulous ingredients, and I find that the combination of this with the Niacinimide has just strengthened my skin. Sixth I apply one of my favorite products ever CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin This product has been a life savior as it is non-comedogenic, fragrance free, and so hydrating! Truly an incredible product! Finally I apply elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 I absolutely love this sunscreen because it’s formulated by dermatologists specifically for people with sensitive or acne proned skin. I absolutely love that it comes in a tinted version so it doesn’t leave a white cast, and it’s a great base for makeup! My one complaint is that it is a bit expensive for a small bottle. However, if you’re willing to pay the money it’s definitely worth it! That’s my routine! Please comment and let me know what you think/suggestions you have:)

Most of us acne patients suffer from oily skin. Excess sebum produced by our skin may clog pores which eventually leads to acne. In this post, I’d like to share my top tricks in controlling my oily acne-prone skin and hopefully be able to help even at least one of you 🙈☺️⁣ ⁣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐎𝐬: ⁣ ⁣ 1. 𝐃𝐎 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐲. This has always worked for me. Sometime before, I tried not washing my face in the AM and it just made me so much oilier during the day resulting in more breakouts. Importantly, remember to wash your face every after workout too. Sweat combined with sebum is a perfect recipe for acne and skin irritation.⁣ ⁣ 𝟐. 𝐃𝐎 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡. Although salicylic acid cleanser helped tremendously in my teenage years, it isn’t necessarily beneficial for me now that my skin is more dehydrated and my skin barrier compromised. Salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide cleansers may still help on days when you’re feeling extra oily but resist using it daily. Use a gentle foaming face wash from Vanicream, Hada Labo, Cerave.⁣ ⁣ 𝟑. 𝐃𝐎 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲. You can have oily skin and dehydrated skin at the same time. Because your face is not hydrated enough, your glands may overcompensate for the lack of moisture by producing more oils. Do not ever skip this step! Your best option is to use an oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer like Paula’s Choice Clear Oil-Free Moisturizer, Neutrogena oil-free and hydroboost gel cream, and if you have rosacea too, use procure rosacare gel. ⁣ ⁣ 𝟒. 𝐃𝐎 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. SPF 30+ or up should always be worn especially for oily skin. Unprotected sun exposure can lead to more acne flare-ups. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide mineral sunscreens are your top options. Zinc doesn’t only protect skin but also helps calm irritated skin. My favorites are Elta MD physical and Purito Water, Clinique Broad Spectrum, .. If you like chemical sunscreen better, I highly recommend Eucerin and Sun BUm. ⁣ ⁣ 𝟓. 𝐃𝐎 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬. Keratolytic ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid that are available over-the-counter can be your best friends when used properly. It is important to note that when using an active, stick to a minimal skincare routine to reap the best results and use of one acne treatment at a time is a must, especially if you’re just starting out. If you have moderate to severe acne, I would go for Differin Adapalene gel or a retinoid such as Retin-A and Atralin. Retinoids may not only get rid of your acne but also heal and renew your skin in the deeper layers. ⁣ ⁣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓𝐬:⁣ ⁣ 𝟏. 𝐃𝐎𝐍'𝐓 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫-𝐞𝐱𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞. Over-exfoliating is probably something we’re all once obsessed with. Unfortunately, this habit can only lead us to a damaged skin barrier thus, compromising our skin’s own ability to heal itself. It’s best to limit the use of exfoliating ingredients twice a week when starting or one exfoliating acid/active at a time once a day after your skin has adjusted. ⁣ ⁣ 𝟐. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. I say it all the time, fragrance in skincare is BAD and does nothing good for you. The use of fragrance in cosmeceutical products is unregulated and companies are not required to disclose all components used in their products. The formulation may have a lot of unknown toxic chemicals that can be harmful to you. Without knowing and often initially not externally evident, fragrance can irritate your skin deep down, cause toxic hormonal effects, and may even cause cancer. Fragrance is a NO-NO for everyone and most especially for acne-prone people or those with other skin diseases. I have suffered the consequences of my bad choices myself. Do yourself a favor and ditch your fragrance-containing products too. ⁣ ⁣ 𝟑. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐥-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬. Certain types of alcohol such as ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, and alcohol denat. are extremely drying and irritating especially to acne-prone skin. ⁣ ⁣ 𝟒. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐮𝐩. Always make sure you wash away all makeup and accumulated dirt on the face before you sleep.⁣ ⁣ 𝟓. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬. Change your pillowcases frequently. I always make sure I sleep on new ones every week. ⁣ ⁣ 𝟔. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞. Picking at your acne can only add dirt and germs to your skin and may cause more issues. my current skin care routine for oily/acne prone skin 🧖🏼‍♀️ 1. softymo oil cleanser 2. dr. oracle a-thera cleansing foam 3. acwell ph balancing toner 4. good cera ceramide mist 5. paula’s choice 2% bha liquid exfoliant 6. klairs midnight blue claming cream 7. biore spf 50+ 5 ⭐️ PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator most definitely a HG right here!! has really diminished the look of pesky blackheads on my nose/cheeks and has helped with my textured skin. the travel size is $10 on amazon! 5 ⭐️ Bioré - UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ one of my favorite sunscreens!! goes on super light and easy, doesn’t leave a white cast, and stays on long over 2 hours. can be found on amazon for $14!!

Looking back on my progress (Before and after) This is the end of my sixth week going on Spirinolactone (pills for hormonal acne that I take 1x a day) and Tretinoin. I purchased both treatments from Apostrophe, so they have been prescribed by a dermatologist. My Apostrophe cream formula is 0.025% Tretinoin and 4% Niacinimide. I have normal, but dehydrated skin. I’m looking to add more in as I adjust to treatment. My routine is as follows: AM HONEST - Gentle Gel Cleanser dear, klairs - Supple Preparation Unscented Facial Toner COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence HONEST - Hydrogel Cream PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ Supergoop! - Glow Stick SPF 50 (I use his to reapply SPF every 2 hours) PM DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil dear, klairs - Supple Preparation Unscented Facial Toner COSRX - Hydrium Centella Aqua Soothing Ampoule 40ml HONEST - Hydrogel Cream Apostrophe Tretinoin Formula CeraVe - Healing Ointment I can see my purging period slowly coming to a close. Whereas I got about (if we’re counting) 4 new bumps per day, I now get about 1 a day. And these ones disappear relatively quickly, so within 2 days max. The purging period is definitely the hardest because your skin is literally at its worst. All the congestion is coming to the surface. It’s really hard to lose sight of the progress you’ve made and feel like Tretinoin isn’t working so that’s why taking photos is important. So, I’ve chosen to show my progress from July 17 to today, September 3rd. This really gives me a glimmer of hope, as I was feeling pretty down while purging. Compared to others my progress is slow, because I slowly worked up to daily usage of Tretinoin. And every individual has a different experience with the purging period. For some it may last only 2 weeks or a month, and for others it may last 3-4 months. There’s no telling by looking at only other’s individual experiences how your experience will go. I really want to combat the hyperpigmentation left over from before and during the purging period (PIE and PIH). So once I’m sure my inflammatory acne is completely gone, I want to consider adding in another product to increase the speed at which my marks fade.
