Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara: worth it? 🤯
Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara: worth it? 🤯
I absolutely love Chanel beauty – I think the packaging is gorgeous and the products (mostly) perform really well. I’m a huge fan of Chanel’s highlighters and bronzers, but have always felt a bit so-so with their eye products; so would their Inimitable Intense Mascara be worth the hefty price tag? Could it compete with my old faithful – the Zoeva Graphic Lash Mascara, which was over 50% less cost? I should start by saying I absolutely love the Zoeva Graphic Lash, partly because it’s a super thick formula that some reviewers have found a bit too chunky. I’ve got really thin, skinny lashes, so the thicker formula coats them really well and gives the illusion they’re long and luscious – all for a pretty affordable price-point. The Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara is meant to volumize, lengthen, curl and separate your lashes – more than just the adding-thickness claim of Graphic Lash. Both mascaras have similar wand sizes and shapes, but the Chanel mascara didn’t seem to coat the lashes as well as my Zoeva go-to; the formula also seemed a bit thin and insipid, needing several coats to make any sort of difference to my lashes. I also noticed that throughout the day the Chanel mascara seemed to fade away: I was reapplying more than I’d have liked, even on my bottom lashes which tend to hold product well. I rarely need to reapply with Zoeva! Would I say Chanel lives up to the claims of lengthen, volumize, curl and separate? To be totally honest, no: I think the drugstore alternative wins here. My lashes didn’t look noticeably longer, thicken or curlier with the Chanel formula, and I find myself reaching for cheaper, higher-performing products instead of this pricey option. Sorry, Chanel!

The Best Non-Drying Liquid Lipsticks 💄
The Best Non-Drying Liquid Lipsticks 💄
I’m a huge liquid lipstick fan, so I’m always on the hunt for a formula which doesn’t dry my lips and turn them into a scaly mess! After much trial and error, I’ve managed to narrow it down to two brands that have great colour pay-off without zapping moisture: Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Lips Matte Liquid Lipstick, and Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipsticks. Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips come in beautiful rose-gold tubes and epitomise that old-school glamour the brand is famous for. They are a little pricey, but for the formula, it’s worth it! It’s beautifully creamy and glides onto the lips like velvet – the Charlotte Tilbury formula is definitely softer and smoother than that of Jeffree Star. Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips come in ten shades, which is a little limited, but they’re all classics: nudes, browns, reds, and berry tones. My personal favourite has to be Best Actress, which dries down matte into a gorgeous nudey-brown. It doesn’t crack or crease and stays on all day! A little cheaper, the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks have a similar formulation, but definitely not as thick and creamy – the consistency is much thinner, which is why I believe it doesn’t dry your lips: it’s also incredibly buildable and can be layered under gloss or over liner for even more opaque colour. The Velour Liquid Lipsticks come in dozens of shades – from super crazy whites and blues to standard nudes, and they all wear beautifully, with amazing colour pay-off. Personal favourite is the Leo shade – very similar to Charlotte Tilbury’s Best Actress!

Battle of the Mini Warm Palettes 🔥
Battle of the Mini Warm Palettes 🔥
I am such a sucker for eyeshadow palettes, but I’ll be honest – I much prefer pocket-sized mini versions of their larger counterparts, as I find I use more of the shades and get more bang for my buck. Warmer tones suit me best, as I’ve got darker hair and darker eyes, so my two absolute must-have mini palettes are Huda Beauty Topaz Obsessions, and Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat – a very similar colour-story in each, and the same price-point. So which is better? Urban Decay has six matte shades, whereas Huda has a mixture of shimmers and mattes, with nine colours to choose from – more choice for your dollar. In terms of wearability, however, the Urban Decay palette is more day-to-day friendly; the yellow shade in Huda’s palette is quite bright and doesn’t really blend well with the other rusty-red pigments, and the shimmery, glitter powders are a little night-time bling for everyday wear. I like how Urban Decay goes more brown for it’s lighter shades, whereas Huda more pink-toned. The pigment pay-off is pretty similar between the two palettes, but the lighter shades in both are a little disappointing: the shades Inhale and Vibrate in Urban Decay’s palette blend away to almost nothing, so are a bit of a write-off! The light pink in Huda’s palette is slightly better, but still not a shade I’d reach for as it seems a little flat; for both palettes, the stars are the deep red shades, and it’s undeniable that Huda’s palette has the better pay-off and lasts longer on the skin. The shimmers in Huda’s palette are also beautiful for evening-wear, and I find myself reaching for these even in the daytime – right in the corner of my eye for a little highlight, or in the centre of my lid for a halo look. Overall, they’re both lovely little palettes – but the winner is definitely Huda’s offering. With nine shades, there’s more variation, and I love the pay-off and pigment of the darker shades. The shimmers are also a lovely touch – if you like warm tones and versatile shadows, this is the palette for you!

Three products for ultimate glowing skin! 😍
Three products for ultimate glowing skin! 😍
I’ve never had terrible skin at all, but it’s always been a little dry and ‘meh’ – a bit dull and lacklustre! I’m always buying skincare to try and inject some moisture (and a new lease of life) into my skin, and I think I’ve found the holy trinity for glowy, gorgeous skin… The three products I absolutely swear by are Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask – a juicy pink pot of gel that leaves my skin so soft by the morning; The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid – a very scientific-looking serum with a really affordable price-point; and Skin Chemists Pure Caffeine Biphase Serum – a little pricier, but worth it! I apply the Skin Chemists Pure Caffeine Biphase Serum first thing in the morning – I like to think it’s like giving my skin a wake-up cup of coffee! This serum is formulated to improve the appearance of the skin’s texture and firmness, something that I’m really aware of as I’m getting older – I’ve found that my pores look a lot less visible after using this serum, and I can definitely feel that my cheeks are firmer, and the skin under my eyes more taut. This serum definitely helps my makeup go on smoother, too – it minimises any skin texture as it dries, so my foundation dries down more flawlessly than usual. At the end of the day, after I take my makeup off, I use The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid – I use the dropper directly on my face, on either cheek and my chin, and using my fingers, massage into my face and down my neck. I love the feeling of this acid – as it dries down it makes the skin feel firmer! The hyaluronic acid in the serum injects moisture into the skin, plumping, firming and blurring any imperfections – I think this is the perfect early evening skincare product. The final step in my skincare routine is just before bedtime – around an hour or so after applying The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid. The Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask smells amazing – like juicy watermelons! – and is super-cute in its pot; a blush-pink jelly with a tiny spoon to dispense. I find the gel really cooling on the skin, and I apply it liberally all over my face – forehead, cheeks, under my eyes and chin; I tend to use two scoops of the gel per night for ultimate hydration. It sinks into the skin quickly and moisturises intensely overnight, meaning I wake up to amazingly soft skin – the ultimate skincare saviour!

Can I justify spending $70 on a highlighter?
Can I justify spending $70 on a highlighter?
When I saw this highlighter, I fell in love. Truly, madly, deeply – I just knew it needed pride of place in my makeup drawer! The product in question is the Chanel Metal Peach pressed powder highlight: Chanel’s glowy, limited-edition offering in their Holiday 2019 collection. I picked this up late last year and it’s immediately become my favourite highlight to date – my usual go-to shimmers are the Illamasqua Beyond Powder and the ABH Amrezy collaboration palette, but Chanel Metal Peach is a game-changer. In terms of colour – this powder is a light, glowy pinky-peach, that almost feels a little creamy when you apply it. I find that the Illamasqua Beyond Powder can be a bit too bronze on my skin (perfect for holidays when I have a tan, but otherwise, a little too warm); and the ABH Amrezy colour, whilst similar in undertone to the Chanel Metal Peach, tends to fade and wear pretty quickly. It’s definitely buildable which is something I always look for in my highlighters – I tend to use the same product for daytime and night-time, so I need something gentle for work and blinding for evenings! I loved that the Chanel Metal Peach powder didn’t clog my pores or highlight skin texture – there’s nothing worse than chunky highlight that clings to imperfections! It lasts all day on the skin, noticeably glowing from application in the morning all the way to bedtime. I never have to reapply – I glow all day long! Of course, for the $70 price tag that is something you’d expect: this was a little more than I would usually spend on a highlight, but whilst you are (of course) paying for the Chanel name, I definitely think that price is justified in how the product applies and performs – I am truly obsessed and could never go back! The packaging is obviously super-cute and the powder is pressed with a gorgeous, swirled design that makes every application feel like a luxury. If you’re looking for a product that has a beautiful shimmer that lasts all day – plus looks adorable on your dressing table! – the Chanel Metal Peach is a must-have, and worth every penny!
