I WILL NOT REPURCHASE
For 2021, I have made a resolution to no longer purchase makeup and skincare from brands that are not cruelty-free. Subsequently, I have unfortunately had to abandon about half of my makeup and skincare products. While it is sad to give up products I loved and used for so long, I can’t bear the thought of continuing to purchase makeup from brands that do such horrific things to animals. I would rather take the time to research ethical dupes than to continue paying these companies to mistreat animals. Pictured are some of what used to be my absolute favourite products, and below I will list a handful of (predominantly drugstore) brands that are not cruelty-free. I know there are plenty more, so please feel free to add them in the comments. Skincare:

Double Your Lash Length With Sky High Mascara!
I bought this mascara after seeing a post about it on Facebook. I love trying out new mascaras but rarely do I find one that I will use regularly like my beloved tarte - Maneater Mascara However this stuff is good. MAYBELLINE - Lash Sensational Sky High Waterproof Mascara It gave my lashes so much volume & length they literally doubled in size! My lashes are already pretty long to begin with but this made them look amazing. The photo is after applying only one coat so I can only imagine how good they will look after two or three coats! It also didn’t clump up my lashes at all. I applied it really quickly & lazily too because I was in a rush to get ready & I was still amazed! I honestly think this is going to be my new daily mascara. It is waterproof but not the annoying kind that leaves your eyes completely black when you go to take it off. It came off really easily with my POND'S - Facial Moisturizers Dry Skin Cream which is what I’ve always used to remove my eye makeup, since I was a kid! @cherie@Cheriebeauty@CheriePick

LRP Hydraphase UV Lotion
La Roche Posay was my gateway skincare brand. It is the brand I turned to when I first began my struggle with hormonal acne, and I haven’t looked back since. Since trying a number of things from LRP, there has definitely been one product that stands out to me more than anything else. Enter: Hydraphase UV spf 30 lotion 🤩 Being acne prone, the thought of anything with spf in it used to scare me. So I was on a mission to find a lotion that wasn’t too thick, didn’t have too much of a white cast for being a mineral/chemical combo sunscreen, and wouldn’t break me out. This lotion is an spf/moisturizer hybrid. It is relatively thin, and mixes well on top of serums and under makeup. In the summer, my favourite way to wear this is after all of my serums, mixed with a pump of DRUNK ELEPHANT - D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops . Adding any sort of tinted drops helps to minimize any trace of white cast, and left me looking so glowy and hydrated that I didn’t need much makeup afterwards other than some concealer. For all of these reasons, it is a 5/5 rating for me. It is my absolute go-to. This lotion works best for normal to combo skin, and even worked well for my acne-prone skin. It costs $39.95 CAD for a 50ml bottle. It’s main hydrating ingredient is hyaluronic acid, and is a mix of chemical and mineral sunscreens (octinoxate & titanium dioxide). This will always be my summertime go-to for moisture and added sun protection 💛
Before and After sensitive skin routine
Hi Cherie fam 😊 I started my night routine for sensitive skin on November 7 (I have a post about it). I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures, but I feel like my skin improved. My pores are smaller, my skin is very soft (feels like velvet), brighter and not tight at all. The redness is still here, but I know rosacea treatment takes longer to get better and it’s winter, which makes the redness worse. Overall I’m very happy with my PM skin routine! I should also mention that I added oil to my routine (tarte - Maracuja Oil or The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil ) That’s how I layer: Neutrogena - Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser VICHY - Mineralizing Thermal Water Spray Rich in 15 Minerals (not every day, just when I feel the redness is worse than normal) The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil OR tarte - Maracuja Oil CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion (I didn’t rate 5 stars bc I don’t feel it’s the best moisturizer I used in my life, I actually like the The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA better) The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% Hopefully I’ll have another post in a couple of months about improvement on the redness! 😘
Rosacea PM routine (on a budget)
I was never concerned about skincare routine until I found out I have rosacea. But it was not until recently that I started being more intentional about it (@cherie helped a lot ♥️). I didn’t review TO Niacinamide, the TO Azelaic Acid or the Cerave PM facial lotion yet. I just started to use. I’ll review them on another post after 6 weeks of my routine. 1 Neutrogena - Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser I use this cleanser for a while now. It’s really gentle to my skin and it doesn’t make it tight 2 VICHY - Mineralizing Thermal Water Spray Rich in 15 Minerals it’s not always on my routine. I just used it when the rosacea flares up or I feel my face too hot 3 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%Like the Azelaic Acid, I just started so I wanna wait at least 6 weeks to see the results 4 The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%👆🏼 5 CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion👆🏼 6 #Trader Joe’s - Hydrating Hyaluronic Body Gel Cream[products]#[FiveStars] I use this on my body and not face. I simply love it, it’s a total game changer. I wrote a review about it on another post 😉 I also to add an oil to the routine. Thoughts?

PORE WARRIOR : first impressions
PACIfICA - Pore Warrior Oil Fighter Booster Serum i hesitantly give this a rating of 4 stars for multiple reasons. i had the pleasure of using this serum for about a week before i unfortunately accidentally spilled it on my floor. from what i understand, products strong in niacinamide can often take up to three months to take full effect so my short experience with this serum is in no way indicative of the results of someone who had used this product for much longer. THAT ALL BEING SAID... this was my experience with this product! the texture is very slippery and similar to the PACIfICA - Water Bounce Moisture Shot Booster Serumthat i have also used. i would maybe also compare it to the VICHY - Minéral 89 Face Serumbut less gel-like. the scent is light and kale-like, but far lighter in fragrance than any other pacifica serum i have used. it felt very nice and seeped into the skin well and adding a moisturizer or wearing makeup on top did not cause any issues. i did not experience any irritation using it. i wish i could have continued to use it and see if there were any long-term benefits :( hope you guys enjoyed! feel free to follow here and on my IG @chloebrk.mua

Hi lovelies 💕 Here is what I’ve been using for the past few months and I just want to say - a very simple routine goes a long way. Cleanser: your skin should feel clean after you wash your face, but it shouldn’t feel ‘squeaky’. I think there are no need to use cleanser with active ingredients and acids as they strip your skin of your natural oils & pretty much leave your skin irritated. Gentle cleanser works best for me. I normally cleanse 1 time in the morning, and 2 times at night. Serum: I always apply serums while my skin is still wet. I don’t dry my face with a towel all the way, better yet, let your skin dry on its own and apply your serums while the skin it a bit wet. I warm up my serum in my hands for 2 seconds before I apply it to my face. This specific serum from Vichy is great, and it is safe to use on your eyes so I apply it everywhere. Moisturizer: something I did not know when I was younger - no matter what your skin type is, moisturize. Find a moisturizer that works for you and apply it every.single.day. I had a bit of an oily skin growing up and thought a moisturizer would make it more oily and would clog pores, so I skipped that step completely. After trying a bunch of creams/moisturizers/lotions, I am now using the most simple one you can find in any store, and it does it’s job perfectly for me and does not clog my precious pores. I highly recommend a simple moisturizer during the day, no active ingredients needed. SPF: simply a must. Don’t skip it. I wear SPF even when I’m at home as the sun could still get it. Another mistake that I made when I was younger is not wearing SPF which made my PIH worse. I use this ultra light SPF which is non-comedogenic and creates a very good base for makeup. This combo of lotion + SPF is my favourite as they feel light on the skin and they don’t ‘roll’ on the surface. PM: this is where these active ingredients come in handy. Choosing your night treatment is very important as this is when you can address what concerns you the most and the treatment will soak right into your skin and will sit there overnight while you sleep 😴 making your $ count as PM treatments get pricey and you want to get the most of using them. My concerns are PIH and dark spots, niacinimide works very well for me. This very simple PM lotion from Cerave is very effective if you struggle from PIH, I highly recommend it 👍🏼 Don’t forget to drop your suggestions for me in the comments ❤️
What to do with products you don’t like 🤷🏻♀️
You ever bought a product because of the brand you really like??? But somehow it doesn’t work for you. It happens to me all the time. I really love the Biosilk brand and I have been using their BIOSILK - Silk Therapy Original shampoo for long times so thought this leave in conditioner would the same. Turns out it didn’t now. I still feel bad throwing away a good product also because I paid for that. Thank god my boyfriend is ok with using everything I don’t like to use anymore 😍🤗. It works on his hair and he love it 👍👍. It’s a win win situation 💕🙏
The secret to long, healthy hair!✨💜
YES, that’s my hair! And I’m going to share with you some tips on how I got my hair to look like this! PSA: I’m not a hairdresser ❤️ Your shampoo DOES MATTER- stop using drug store shampoo/conditioner that’s just making your hair dried out and greasy. Some great and still affordable brands are PAUL MITCHELL - Clarifying Shampoo Two BIOSILK - Silk Therapy Shampoo MATRIX - Ultra Hydrasource Shampoo (I’m currently using the Paul Mitchell shampoo/conditioner) Tip: going to stores like marshals or TJ max can help save money on these products. ❤️ Cut the heat 🚫🔥 heat can damage your hair! And if you have to use heat styling tools PLEASE use a heat protectant spray. ❤️ Wash your hair only 2-3 times a week, you don’t want to strip your hair of its natural oils!! ❤️ Use hair oil or hair serum EVERY👏🏼SINGLE👏🏼DAY! You don’t need much, maybe a little more then a pea size just enough to hydrate your hair and give it some shine🌟 I like BIOSILK - Silk Therapy Original ogx - Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Extra Penetrating Hair Oil I’ve also noticed while using these products my hair has less knots and frizz ❤️ Don’t underestimate the power of a silk pillow case. At night you move around and your hair can get snagged and break with a cotton pillowcase, the silk allows your hair to slide off and is better for your skin too ❤️ OLIVE OIL is your new best friend you never knew you had. I soak my hair in olive oil once a month and it really helps with growth. (I made a separate post on this if you want to know more!) ❤️ Most important⚠️ PLEASE DO NOT color your hair with box dye!!! Ahhh this is so so bad for your hair. If you need a change please go see a hair stylist to talk about what’s best for YOUR hair needs, your hair will thank you! ❤️ Don’t forger to trim the dead ends. I know it sounds so simple and everyone knows this buts it’s so important for the health of your hair and makes your hair look healthier and helps your hair grow faster! ❤️ Don’t forget about hair masks!! There’s so many different brands and options for every hair type. One of my favorites Is the brand HASK. HASK - Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner Packette the packs are so big that I can use half and get 2 uses out of it ❤️ What brush are you using?? I only use the Wet brush - Original Detangler because the bristles are so flexible they don’t rip my hair out while I’m brushing while detangling my hair with no problem and can be used on dry hair too not just wet!! I hope this helped! If you have any other good hair tips leave them in the comments below!
ernolaszlonyc came out with a jumbo rose gold version of their phelityl night cream and I've been enjoying its thick, creamy texture at night! A little goes a long way so this jar will last forever! I've also been loving the leonorgreylusa Huile de Leonor Greyl. It's a pretreatment that you can apply before shampooing or swimming. I've been using it on my daughter's hair before swimming lessons and it has completely revived her hair, which was getting brittle and tangled from the chlorine. Finally the sulwhasoo.us Bloomstay toner is I think my favorite product in the Bloomstay line. It's refreshing and very hydrating, and I really love the fresh scent. There's some nice slip but it also absorbs really fast so it's my go-to for a first hydrating layer.

🌸Pink to brighten your week!
🌸A product I really want to highlight is the dry shampoo by Organically Wonderful!! It’s an organic, aerosol-free powder spray with a coconut 🥥 vanilla scent! What I love is the simple ingredient list and I don’t feel like I’m breathing in this dry shampoo when I use it! 🌸It takes a bit of work to rub it into my strawberry blonde/red hair but it helps if you apply the night before and let it soak up the oil! And I have fine hair so I appreciate the grit/volume it gives my hair—Perfect for braids! 🗣I used to use Batiste dry shampoo and I felt like I went through them every month but this dry shampoo I’ve been using for over a month and haven’t made a dent! It claims to last 6 months with daily use!! 💰$22 but here’s the best part they sell refills for $12!!! And also comes unscented 🌸I will be repurchasing and you guys need to check out this brand!!! Their Everybody Oil is 👌 Organically WONDERFUL - Coconut Vanilla Dry Shampoo

Summer 2020 Essentials
This summer is a bit different than most previous summers, but that hasn’t stopped me from going to the beach (socially distanced of course). so, i’ve picked out my summer essentials that are a must for a summer on the east coast. - amara beauty vitamin c cleanser: i was unable to tag this brand or product, because it is a small business. but their products are amazing! this cleanser is brightening, gentle, and extremely hydrating. it’s important to have a good cleanser to wash away dirt, sweat, and sunscreen and this is it! - amara beauty aloe vera gel: ive tried several aloes and sunburn sprays, and this is the best yet. it’s 99.7% aloe with added ascorbic acid (brightening and protects from sun damage)! this genuinely gets rid of my sunburn overnight. added effects if you cool it down in the fridge! - ryan porter candle “beaches, babes & bonfires”: this wouldn’t show up either in product tags, but it’s amazing! with scents of bamboo, coconut, mango, and tangerine, this will transport you to the beach even when you aren’t on vacation! - Fleur & Bee - Rose and Shine / Natural Rose Water Toner it’s super important to have a toner that can hydrate and soothe the skin, especially if you’re spending time in the sun. after having sunburn, this is especially nice to spray on your face because it has a cooling AND soothing effect. - dermala “supplemeant to be” probiotics: let’s be honest, we eat WHATEVER we want on vacation! and if there’s something wrong in your digestive system, i’ve found it definitely shows on your face. probiotics are the perfect way to balance out everything in your digestive system, and keep your skin clear - miami beach bum leave in hair conditioner: this is made especially for protecting your hair from the pool and ocean. it’s reef safe, and makes your hair so soft!! not to mention it smells like an orange creamsicle - the skin house face sunscreen: this has been my go-to sunscreen while at the beach. it has no scent which is nice. it leaves a horrible white cast until you rub it in, but it works so well. i’ve had sunscreen all over my body, but the only thing that hasn’t burnt so far is my face, thanks to this sunscreen.

Don’t use unless you have dry skin
The cerave am spf 30 is marketed to all skin types and claims to moisturize throughout the day to help restore the skin barrier. It contains ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaloeonic acid. It targets hyperpigmentation because it helps protect the skin from further sun damage. It has a very thick cream texture and smells strongly like a typical sunblock. Overall, I would not recommend this unless you have very dry skin. It is difficult to rub in and leaves a white cast after applying. I do not like this at all because it does not moisturize as claimed, is hard to rub in, leaves a white cast, and pills. I would not recommend it unless you have very dry skin because this also tends to make your skin oily looking. Also it is not suitable for darker skin tones. It is very cheap though, so it is what I would expect for a product at that price point. I would not say that it is worth it, but it does provide sun protection if that is the only thing you are after. CeraVe - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30

Disappointed by “CLEAN” Am/Pm duo @The Body Deli
THE BODY DELI - Solar Day Cream 2 stars for theoretically good ingredients. IDK if it’s my particular face chemistry that this doesn’t agree with or if it’s just a flop. 🤷♀️ With Spf 15, it’s a lotion that spreads easily but doesn’t leave my skin feeling nice. It looks greasy as the day wears on and my textured skin becomes highlighted. This is a problem for me as I generally don’t wear makeup daily, so I can’t speak to how it would wear with makeup on top. My skin looks more red when I wear it, which encourages my suspicion that there is a irritating ingredient. THE BODY DELI - Nourish Night Cream Once again 2 stars for ingredients but does not live up to it’s name. My skin is not nourished by this but seems perturbed by it instead. The Body Deli is a brand whose products I expected to love unfailingly. Modeled after a fresh juice design concept, all products are made to order with live, raw, & pure ingredients. With much sadness, I returned these products and instead re-ordered the cult favorite THE BODY DELI - Creme De La Rose which is my Holy Grail Product.
