ALPHA ARBUTIN TO TREAT DARK SPOTS
So you might’ve heard of the new kid on the block people have been raving about, The Ordinary’s Aloha Arbutin 2% + HA. I honestly love how The Ordinary just chucks hyaluronic acid into so many formulas 🙌🏽 This product is great for alllll skin types. Alpha Arbutin reduces the looks of spots and hyperpigmentation. It's used at a high two percent concentration versus a standard concentration of one percent and supported with a form of hyaluronic acid for enhanced delivery. What a lot of people don’t mention is that this also contains lactic acid at a low amount to lightly dissolve dead skin and further assist in reducing dark spots. Overall this product didn’t break me out and worked well, but I definitely prefer to stick to using my retinoid instead for my oily and acne-prone skin! Btw I have a seperate post on my holy grail retinoid which you’ve probably never seen before! Check it out Pic by @skinpatrol_ on Instagram

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.....
What many of us may not realize is that although they are often used interchangeably, moisturizing and hydration are not exactly the same thing. While both are key in providing skin with much-needed nourishment, knowing the difference will help you make the best choice when targeting your skin’s specific needs. HYDRATION: involves taking water into your skin and maintaining it. Natural humectants allow the skin to improve its ability to hydrate itself over time, so look out for products that contain hyaluronic acid, aloe, honey, alpha hydroxy acids and marine extracts. Synthetic humectants, glycerin, urea and propylene glycol are some of the ingredients you want to keep an eye out for. Hydrating ingredients are generally appropriate for all skin types. They are water-soluble and won’t clog pores. MOISTURISING: Locks and seals in water to prevent it from leaving the skin. Such as products with ceramides, oils (coconut, almond), butters (shea or cocoa) or dimethicone. These do not add water into the skin but deal in the moisture. For acne-prone skin, a light, oil-free moisturizer works best, these have less oil and more water content. For combination skin, a gel/lotion or cream will do fine, while a serum or a more emollient cream is best for dry skin types. SO BASICALLY hydrating products add water into the skin, and moisturisers lock in and retain existing moisture. You want to be making sure your skin is getting both. Personally, I use CeraVe’s moisturising facial lotion for my oily/acne-prone skin. This moisturiser contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid which means I’m getting my hydration and moisturising all in one! This helps prevent from layering more products clogging my skin with too many products!

VITAMIN C TO REDUCE DARK SPOTS....
1. USE VITAMIN C IN THE MORNING: You get the most benefits out of vitamin c when you apply in the morning ti protect your skin when UV radiation is at its highest. 2. USE THE RIGHT CONCENTRATION FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE/CONCERNS: More sensitive skin should opt for serums that have a 5-10%. Otherwise 15-20% is that perfect amount. 3. DO NOT MIX WITH BENZOYL PEROXIDE OR NIACINAMIDE. This causes irritation and makes products ineffective. 4. STORE CORRECTLY: In topical skin-care products, vitamin C is sensitive to light and air. When exposed to these factors, it becomes oxidized to dehydroascorbic acid, which is less stable and less efficacious. Products in dropper bottles often oxidise quicker because of this. 5. WATER BASED VS OIL BASED: L-ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbyl phosphate are water-soluble, meaning they’re more likely to show up in products that are lighter and better suited to oilier skin. If you have dry, mature skin, try looking for more moisturizing products containing lipid-soluble (oil based) forms of vitamin C, like ascorbyl palmitate and tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. Vitamin C is more stable in this form and will likely oxidise more slowly. 6. NOTICE COLOUR CHANGES: Vitamin C is so fickle and oxidises very easily. Usually, vitamin C serums are colorless or a light straw color, but just note what colour your serum begins as. If they become more yellow/orange/brown then it’s oxidised which means it will be ineffective and potentially damage your skin. Pic from Refinery29
HYRAM SWEARS BY THIS PRODUCT !!!
First thing first - FOLLOW ME 💛💛💛 Since the beginning of our mate COVID-19, I’ve spent so much more time indoors and my skin has really copped it. This product is amazing at saving my iso skin. My skin is oily but being indoors so often has lead to a lot of dry patches and dehydrated skin. This nourishing serum calms sensitivity and evens out skintone without the greasy after feeling. Its blend of conditioning oils fight irritation, discoloration and breakouts caused by a damaged skin barrier. Contains Niacinamide, Squalane (my fav oil) and hyaluronic acid - just to name a few star ingredients! I can see why Hyram has gone through so many bottles of this!! Pic by Krave Beauty

Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet 💫
Glow Recipe - Papaya Sorbet Enzyme Cleansing Balm Perfectly dissolves makeup, dirt, and oil while gently resurfacing skin - Papaya cleansing balm reveals smooth, soft, glowing skin. It's ideal for all skin types and specifically targets concerns of dullness, uneven texture, and dryness. Papaya enzyme (papain) is a gentle exfoliant that softens and smooths the top layer of skin while papaya extract and seed oil hydrate the skin with numerous vitamins and fatty acids. Other highlighted ingredients include Blueberry extract, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil and Apricot Kernel Oil. My experience with this so far has been wonderful. It smells sweetly of papaya and emulsifies so well. The fragrance is natural but it is fragrant nonetheless. I haven't noticed any irritation to my eyes and I haven't broken out due to the product. It doesn't take a lot to break down makeup, which is great for the price you pay for the product! The only issue is that I've noticed it takes several handfuls of water to get rid of all of the milky oil. How do you like to double cleanse? Have you tried this cleansing balm? Vitamin C & Alpha Arbutin to Treat Dark Spots
🍊I’m slowly making my way through The Ordinary’s Vitamin C products. I love love love TO’s alpha arbutin so the fact that it’s mixed with vitamin C, it’s close to being the perfect product. This product is 8% Ascorbic acid and 2% alpha arbutin. It’s water free which allows for the vitamin C & alpha arbutin to be stable (they’re unstable in water). To get technical, this means it’s an anhydrous solution :) The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% This is classified as a serum but does have an oily feel once applied to the skin (it IS oil-free). It takes maybe 10-15 seconds for it to absorb into the skin. It also has a scent to it which almost smells metallic to me? The Ingredients: Ascorbic acid: brightens the skin; helps with fine lines and other signs of aging Alpha arbutin: helps reduce the look of hyperpigmentation. With that being said, this product is ideal for anyone who is looking to: reduce dark spots, reduce fine lines & wrinkles, treat acne/blemish marks, provide an overall brightness to the skin This can be used in the AM or PM. While I didn’t notice any tingling or irritation, be sure to spot test — especially if you’re new to vitamin C. This product has a “moderate potency” according to Deciem :) Also, thanks to this product, I have noticed a change in some scarring on my leg from a pesky ingrown hair. With this product, less is more, especially since it has an oily feel to it. If your skin is oily, this may not be the best vitamin C to try; however, I think this is great if you have dry skin! Recommend this 100%. Retails for $10 CAD. PS Don’t forget to wear sunscreen when using vitamin C products 🧴☀️😎

The Benefits of Thermal Water for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
Thermal water is a magical ingredient that does wonders for my skin type. I have oily and sensitive skin, as well as inner dryness. My skin is also acne-prone. Ever since I discovered products containing thermal water, my skin has improved a lot. It has been calmer and has less redness and inflammation thanks to the healing properties of thermal water. I found out about this ingredient through the brand LA ROCHE-POSAY, which was introduced to me by my friend a few years back and the focus of this article. This brand is trusted and recommended by dermatologists worldwide, and my personal experience is that it truly lives up to its reputation thanks to the thermal water ingredient. Currently, my favorite products containing thermal water are the Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel and the Effaclar Duo Plus, and using them in combination delivers fantastic results. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin This is a very gentle yet effective cleanser that does not irritate my sensitive skin. It leaves my face feeling cleaned and soft without stripping off my skin. This cleanser is in a clear gel texture and lathers up nicely to a creamy finish even though it is soapless, thus, perfectly safe for sensitive skin. The thermal water ingredient in this product calms my skin; therefore, I feel comfortable using this day and night. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatment Because I have acne-prone skin, I often have a lot of hyperpigmentations on my face. This corrective moisturizer claims to target blemishes, imperfections, and marks, which I agree to a certain extent. The result is not drastic, but my skin does feel brighter and clearer. It has quite a thick texture but absorbs quickly into the skin and does not leave an oily finish. And it is perfect for my skin because it is oily and dry on the inside. It can hydrate my skin, and my face feels smooth and matte, which I love. I believe that the thermal water ingredient reduces the redness and imperfections of my skin. Overall, I would recommend people with similar skin type and skin concerns to try out this ingredient. My skin has benefited from it.

Umbrian Clay for Acne
This clay mask from Fresh is a great option for those who have dry and acne prone skin. This mask is rich with minerals and clarifies the skin without drying it out. What’s unique about it is that the Umbrian clay works to balance and purify the complexion. I love that the clay has a thicker consistency that covers the skin in an even layer. I love that this mask removes impurities on the skin that can lead to clogged pores. Having acne prone skin that is also sensitive and dry is quite challenging. I’ve used the mask for years because it both balances the skin and clarifies. I love that I can use it as a preventative treatment to avoid clogged pores and to help the healing process when some acne emerges on my face. I notice that acne such as clogged pores and pimples go away within a day or two when I use this mask. Granted, I don’t experience much acne, but when I do, this mask does the trick. It is on the pricier side, but because it’s so effective and kind to my skin, it’s definitely worth the price. I highly recommend this product if you’re looking for a gentle clay mask!

ROUND-UP: May 2020 Top Threes
What I learned, scavenged, and loved this month! 🔎 In the Literature: 1. Ferulic acid doubles the sun-protective effects that Vit C + E have versus Vit C (ascorbic acid)+ E alone. 2. Bakuchiol, a plant extract used in Indian and Chinese medicine, has a mechanism of action similar to retinol- both upregulate collagen production. Formulations with bakuchiol + retinol have shown more effective in anti-aging than retinol alone. 3. Jojoba oil is actually a wax ester, a fatty molecule that structurally looks super similar to the fatty molecules of our sebum, hence why it meshes so well with our skin! 🔎 In Skincare: 1. GOOD MOLECULES - Niacinamide Brightening Toner 2. GOOD MOLECULES - Overnight Exfoliating Treatment 3. I'm from - Honey Mask 🔎 In Makeup etc: 1. PHYSICIANS FORMULA - Murumuru Butter Bronzer in Light 2. Glossier. - Niteshine Highlighter Concentrate 3. NYX - Lip Lingerie Push-Up Long-Lasting Lipstick in Bedtime Flirt Cheers🥂
