So, it’s been now over two weeks and these are the fab 5 that have helped my skin SO much from all my “facemask-acne”. Yes, it’s taken a little while, but I am happy that my breakouts are almost completely gone (except for a very stubborn one near my mouth). Please note: I do NOT recommend any of these products for anyone with sensitive skin, except for the face spray!! Ok, let’s go product by product now:
NEOSTRATA - Foaming Glycolic Wash
I LOVE this face wash! Everything from the super soft foam texture, the small amount you need, and the barely there scent is great about it. The 4 and not 5 stars?? If you overuse it (like I have 🤦🏻‍♀️) it’ll dry out your skin a bit. So, careful !!
MARIO BADESCU - Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater
This little spray is everything to me. The main reason: it does NOT have any alcohol in it and therefore doesn’t dry my skin out. I like to use it as a “toner” in between my wash/treatments/moisturizer, but when I need a bit of hydration through the day, I just do a couple of sprays 😊
Kate Somerville - Liquid ExfoliKate Triple Acid Resurfacing Treatment
Ok, first things first: the one thing I CANNOT stand about this product is the smell 😩😩😩 It’s super strong and definitely not pleasant. However, when it comes to its effectiveness, I must say it’s great. My skin does feel clean, like I’ve taken away a thin layer of extra whatever was there (sorry lol, it’s hard to explain). It burns a bit on my breakouts, but it has helped reduce them too. Once again, another product NOT to be overdone, it’s a strong formula that contains Alpha Hydroxy Acid, which can be damaging to the skin when not used properly. PLEASE use at night only, and REMEMBER to use SPF during the day as well as minimum sun exposure for the sake of your skin staying healthy and getting the most benefit out of AHA’s!!
NEOSTRATA - Acne Clarifying Solution
This solution right here is bomb! Yes, I said it. Has to be the best acne solution I’ve ever used. It does work great for my skin. I only dab a saturated cotton pad where I need it (breakouts mostly and oily parts of my face). It burns my breakouts, yes, I literally DO feel the burn lol, which it also means it’s working, right? 🤔 It’s also helped with my redness and the breakout bumps minimize noticeably!
And last, but not least
MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
Yes, another cult fave that I HAD to try myself lol. I think it’s effective and it does a good work by drying out breakouts (or anything that’s a pustule or such). My only complaint is that it takes a while to see the results. Maybe I was expecting it to be one of those “overnight miracle” products, but it just isn’t. It’s also recommended to be applied and left overnight, which I did, but in the morning my ugly little bumps were still there, just in the slow process of going away...

Can This Replace a Paula’s Choice Cult Favorite?
I live in Canada and getting Paula’s Choice shipped in seems like a luxury in this Covid economy. So I was looking for something that could replace Paula’s Choice 2% Salicylic Exfoliating Solution (FYI the black bottle and the blue extra strength acne solution are the exact same product) I had some points and this Neostrata Acne Solution was 20% off making it free for me. It has the same 2% Salicylic Acid as well as 7% AHA. I do struggle with never ending spots (I’m 37! When does this end!?) so I thought this would be the perfect exfoliation and anti aging combo. Whoa man!!! The first time I tried it, it legit took off my nail polish! This stuff is strong! Stings going on, and has a very pungent polish remover smell. I was floored by the overall intensity of it. That being said- if it works well I can over look those things. I’ve only had it a week so too early to give a solid review on its effectiveness, I’ll have to check back in with that. I still have a bit of my PC so alternating for now. So far, so good. No bad reaction and I do think it is having a positive effect, time will tell. Take Care Beauties 💖

My face after a bit over a week
So, this is what I’m looking like after using all of these products RELIGIOUSLY, DAY and NIGHT (as per their own directions respectively). I honestly don’t know what else to do. My horrid facemask-breakouts have definitely improved, yes, but after a bit over a week I would expect them to be completely gone! Sadly, there’s still bits of them here and there, still visible AND some even painful 😥😪😭😩 Especially the one on the left side of my mouth keeps going and coming back. Some of the products I feel have helped me, but I guess not all of them are as effective... Brands I won't be reviewing (part 2)
I promised a part two to this (so if you haven't, take a look at part 1). I'm not saying you can't purchase these brands. I just personally won't be and consequently won't be reviewing them (because I buy everything I review). Juice beauty for not providing helpful customer service. I personally do not care for their brand after I got into skincare and bought their JUICE BEAUTY - Green Apple Brightening Gel Cleanser . As I got deeper into the skincare world, I found out that their second ingredient is citrus medica limonum (lemon juice) which is irritating and can cause photosensitivity. Even though it is a wash off treatment it has me skeptical because of how high on the ingredients list it is. I saw their ad on facebook and decided to politely voice my concern and ask why they felt it was a good ingredient. They not only deleted my comment, but banned me from being able to comment on their future ads. This to me shows a lack of transparency. I decided to take my concern and turn it into a review for their webpage. It has never been posted on their website even though it has been months ago. They have still only allowed 1 one star review on their website which shows me that the company filters their reviews. I know they are not the only brand that does this, but I do not care to support it. Kylie skin... There is a reason why I am skeptical about celebrity brands and this does not help. For one they made KYLIESKIN - Walnut Face Scrub and if you don't know for the most part physical exfoliants (unless uniformly shaped and edges have been rounded down on a microscopic level) are not good! They can leave microtears in your skin leaving your skin vulnerable. As you can imagine chunks of walnut are not good to use as an exfoliant and will be overly abrasive. Other products (KYLIESKIN - Detox Face Mask and KYLIE COSMETICS - KYLIE COSMETICS Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Face Sunscreen ) have been taken from other brands with very similar ingredients lists, but have been altered to be less effective and therefore cheaper (well the sunscreen was more of a direct copy of supergoop... Let's be real). Overall I'm not impressed. Her skincare isn't innovative and made for us in mind. Instead just used to line pockets of people who are already rolling in it. Mario Badescu secretly using steroids in their products which is extremely dangerous for their customers. Steroids for one should never be used on your face without a dermatologist’s recommendation or prescription. When used for a long period of time, it can lead to long term effects when not taken off of them correctly. When some people found this out, they had already been using their products for a long period of time and consequently, when switching to a new product, had long term effects. I also do not like any of their facial sprays (MARIO BADESCU - Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater ) because they are heavily fragranced.

let’s talk neck care!
Neck and décolletage care! This type of skin care isn’t addressed as much, but it’s still an important step of skincare! I never really thought about it while I was addressing my face skin concerns, but I once read that it was good to bring your skincare products down to your neck, so I started doing that about 8 months ago. I think my neck lines are partly genetic, but they’re also due to how often I sit in bed staring at my phone, thus creating deeper lines on my neck. I wish I had a picture from 8 months ago, but my neck was pretty wrinkly, it had really deep horizontal neck lines that I couldn’t get rid of even if I stretched my neck. While I still have some horizontal lines on my neck, they’re certainly less visible than they were before. So what do I do exactly? I really don’t do much besides bring my toners, serums, sunscreen, and moisturizers down to my neck, and I massage it in in an upward direction. So with the product on my hands, I start to massage from the base of my neck up to my chin. I do this until I feel like the product has been absorbed. Massaging the product in an upward direction will help smooth the skin and prevent drooping. I certainly did not see results immediately. In fact, it took at least 6 months of doing this little massage every morning and night to see some change. I really just stuck to it and ended up doing it out of habit for many months, then one day I realized my neck looked much smoother than it was before. Here are some of the products I’ve been using on my neck (I usually use these on my face too): innisfree - Cica Toner with Bija Seed Oil innisfree - Green Tea Moisture-Balancing Toner CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum Kate Somerville - Liquid ExfoliKate Triple Acid Resurfacing Treatment FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

triple acid exfoliant for brighter, smooth skin
I was looking for The Ordinary Lactic Acid treatment but couldn’t find it in Sephora, and I was recommended the Kate Somerville - Liquid ExfoliKate Triple Acid Resurfacing Treatment instead, and I’m so glad I picked this up! Claims: A clinic-inspired leave-on exfoliating treatment gentle enough for daily use. Liquid ExfoliKate® is clinically tested safe for sensitive skin and improves the look of pores while smoothing skin texture and evening skin tone for radiant, younger-looking skin. I’ve been using this treatment 2-3 times a week for about a month and I’ve found that the bumps and closed comedones on my face have subsided. I feel like this treatment does a good job of removing dead skin cells, allowing my other treatments (Tretinoin and Azelaic Acid) to penetrate my skin even more. My skin has become significantly smoother and brighter since starting to use this. Note: I have been using my Tretinoin and Azelaic Acid treatments every day for about 6 months so my skin is very used to it and not sensitized, thus allowing me to use the exfoliant and those treatments together in one routine. If you are new to exfoliants or retinoids or any other actives, exercise extreme caution because your skin could become really sensitized after using these. You should only use these actives together if your skin has become accustomed to the actives. Sometimes I wake up with some dead skin coming off my face, and I just wipe it off with a wet washcloth. While this is a triple acid exfoliating treatment, I find it to be pretty mild on my skin. It doesn’t irritate my skin, but is still effective at creating a smooth surface. Ingredients: 10% Triple Acid Blend (Glycolic, Malic, and Lactic Acids) Phytic Acid with Pumpkin, Papaya, and Pineapple Enzymes Peptides, Honey, and Tea Extract I love the ingredient list because it has different AHAs blended with soothing ingredients! Application: The company suggests you apply this as a toner by saturating a cotton pad and applying before your moisturizer. You can certainly do it this way, but I usually like using it like a serum by using a dropper and applying it in drops directly on my face and then rubbing it in. It does have a pretty runny and thin consistency, so just be careful not to let it slip off your face before rubbing it in when using a dropper. Both application techniques work just fine! I usually only use this at night so as to avoid extra sensitization to the sun. I apply this in conjunction with my hyaluronic acid and niacinamide serums. Overall, this is a great addition to your skincare routine if you’re looking for a gentle yet effective exfoliating treatment! Let me know your thoughts!

FA safe but there is a Sulfur product I prefer
MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion ^ has no fungal acne triggers Has 2 ingredients that help fight fungal acne: - Sulfur - Salicylic Acid Some people say it dries out there skin too much but I think it’s okay as a spot treatment. But it didn’t do much for my acne. A Sulfur spot treatment mask that works really well for me is De La Cruz - Sulfur Ointment, Acne Medication, Maximum Strength which you only leave on clean skin for 10 min then wash it off and use your regular skin care products

My Skincare Routine- 5 Months Later!
Long time no post! Since my first post regarding my skincare routine received quite a bit of attention, I decided to update and let you know what I’ve learned to do within the past few months. I still am using the same CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin cleanser, which will remain a long time favorite of mine. I am considering trying the SA cleanser once this runs out! My routine has simplified, as I really only moisturize and use The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% in the morning and at night. I love how my once oily skin is now more manageable! I have come to learn that my skin really doesn’t agree with the The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA serum. I was away at college and left it home, as I’ve been back for about a month I decided to try it again and my skin has NOT been happy. I could be wrong, but I believe this can be to blame. I have really switched over from my The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution to the The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque once a week, as I feel the latter is less harsh on my skin. I could possibly be allergic to the peeling solution, as again at school I left it out of my routine and saw better results. My holy grail product used to be the MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion , which worked great but dried my skin out around the pimple over time. Now, acne patches are the way to go! I got these ones from Amazon, and at ~$10 for 125 patches, I see it as a complete win! Now I turn to you guys, as I still struggle with hormonal acne and now dry skin that the weather has changed. If there are any products you recommend (with a college students budget in mind!), don’t hesitate to comment below! I hope you all had safe and wonderful holidays with your loved ones! ❤️

Overrated - it’s a big NO from me 🙅🏽‍♀️
Overrated - it’s a big NO from me 🙅🏽‍♀️
Everyone’s probably come across this product at some point as majority of the beauty stores list it as a best seller. I don’t suffer from serious or constant acne but at times I will get a big pimple especially after I’ve done a blackhead extraction. I normally use pimple patches with hydrocolloid to help heal my spots quickly and gently, however I wanted to give the MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion a try! Unfortunately my experience was not a glowing positive one. 😞 After I applied it to my pimple, I instantly felt a burn. Not a sting - like an actual burn and I was tempted to just wipe it off. I assume this is from the alcohol in it which personally I think there’s just too much in there that for sensitive skin girls like myself, it’s very irritating. In terms of pimple healing, I honestly think because of the irritation, the healing speed was slowed and the pimple would just be so red and aggressive. Potentially people with more robust and less sensitive skin could tolerate it however I do still think there’s better spot treatment products on the market. This one I feel does a bit more damage then good! 😞 Would love to know your thoughts on this product if you’ve used it 🥰

Best spot treatment
Best spot treatment
If you’re like me and don’t have overly spotty skin but when those pesky spots crop up you know they can be very annoying! There are many products on the market that claim to target spots as and when they crop up. I put two leading brands to the test to see who comes out on top. MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion This cult favorite is made with a blend of Calamine and Salicylic Acid. You apply the lotion overnight to help soothe and clear up pimples, blemishes and whiteheads without irritating the surrounding skin. This is suitable for even the most sensitive skin types, is super gentle and effortless to apply. I really love this product. I've been using it for a few days and I see the spots where I apply it to, getting smaller each day. This is my new beauty bestie - as I saw results literally after the second use, it’s my new go to, my skin is completely changed, I’ll never be without my drying lotion ever again! LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatment This multi award winning acne spot treatment claims to reduce the number and severity of acne blemishes and helps clear blackheads and whiteheads. It's backed by dermatologists and includes 5.5% micronized benzoyl peroxide and micro-exfoliating lipo-hydroxy acid which provides fast, visible results in 3 days. This product is best used in the total range to see the full effects. It's recommended to use it in between the facial wash and facial cream. A little goes a long way. I use it on my entire face, and have seen a big difference in the surface and texture in my skin since I began using it. My skin hasn't been this clear in a long time thanks to this 3 step regimen that I'm using.

Acne Friendly products!
Acne Friendly products!
Another product that came to mind when I saw that the category was acne friendly skin care products is this Mario Badescu drying lotion. This drying lotion is used as a topical treatment if you are experiencing a breakout. When you use this product you feel it working automatically. It is best used if you put over the area of the break out and let it sit overnight. This product helps reduce the inflammation and the visibility of the breakout area. My only complaint about this product is that it hardened up on me in less than a year. The actual product is the sediment that is at the bottom of the bottle. I made sure that my bottle was tightly sealed at all times however within six months the sediment had completely hardened and I wasn’t able to use a ton of the product. Next time I would probably purchase a different spot treatment for that reason. I did really enjoy this product before it hardened.

Overnight Pimple Stopper
Overnight Pimple Stopper
MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion Marketed to target pesky problems with a fast-acting formula to help dry up trouble spots overnight ! I get a monthly pimple in the same areas on my face thanks to my cycle and initially bought this to see if it would help. The drying lotion is a combination of mainly alcohol, calamine & salicylic acid. The calamine settles at the bottom of the bottle and you should NOT shake the bottle. To use, you dip a q-tip down to the very bottom of the bottle and dab the pink solution onto your problem area. After a few minutes, the solution will dry up and when you wake up in the morning, your troubles will be gone ! Literally an overnight lifesaver. Now I won’t lie- if you have a really huge pimple it might not disappear overnight, but, your average sized pimples will be gone. I store this in my cosmetic fridge because I enjoy how it feels on my face when the product is cold! This runs about $15-$17 for a 1 oz. bottle which could in theory last you the entire 24 month shelf life of the product, if you need it to. I typically alternate between this and hydrocolloid patches for acne/pimple treatment.

How I Dealt with My Acne 🙌🏻
How I Dealt with My Acne 🙌🏻
A different kind of post today. I want to talk about how I dealt with my acne and why I think I don’t get it very often anymore ⭐️ This photo is me, today, without any makeup on. My skin isn’t perfect: I still have little bumps and very noticeable pores and textures. But compared to before, it’s improved so much and I’m happy with it. So here’s my take on it: 1) I believe acne has something to do with genetics and age (hormone level changes). My parents both have oily skin and had acne when they were young. They still have occasional pimple even now. So I don’t expect I can be acne free. My acne was the worst when I was in middle and high school and started to get significantly better since I turned 20. So here’s that factor. Acne also has a lot to do with what we eat, our sleep, our environment, our stress, our menstruations, etc, especially cystic acne. So that’s also something we can look into. 2) Don’t pick your pimples if it’s not like dry and 80% healed. That was my lesson. I still have some scars on the side of my face. 3) Treatment: small pimples can be a skin or follicle inflammation. if you have more oily skin like me, you are unfortunately more prone to acne because sebum can cause that. for these kind of small bumps I use a salicylic acid spot treatment such as CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gelor Murad - Rapid Relief Acne Spot Treatment. I alternate between these two. large, painful acne, or cystic acne, has more to do with hormones. if it’s really bad you should definitely see a doctor. I fortunately never got too many of these. but when I do, I have a process: if I feel it coming out, I use a salicylic acid spot treatment mentioned above to see if I can get it down before it even pops out. if it’s out and red, I use a sulfur drying lotion such as Kate Somerville - EradiKate Acne Treatmentor MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotionuntil it has a whitehead and is dried out. once it’s dry, you can actually pick it out with clean hands. then I immediately put an acne sticker/patch on it. the sticker will suck it flat and from then I go back to salicylic acid until it is fully gone. using acid every night all over my face definitely helps me stabilize my skin. you can choose aha or bha or whatever acid mostly suited for your skin type and condition. I also use a more intense acid treatment mask every week. changes in locations, changes in weathers, changes in our moods, our bodies. a lot of things can trigger acne. sometimes our skin really just freaks out and if we give it a bit time and be patient, it can heal itself. 4) After all, skin is our first barrier and protection against the outside environment and it fights for us so hard. All skins are good skins. 😇 Hope this post can help!
