What is the best way to apply spf and how often?
Understanding what products to use in your routine can be overwhelming, add trying to figure out how much sunscreen you need to put on your face makes it all that more complicated. Thankfully there are some tips to know exactly how much sun protection is the right amount. Proper sun protection is extremely important for everyone, especially if you are also into skincare or use actives (also known as exfoliants or acids). The best way to apply sunscreen or spf is to use the 2 to 3 finger rule for liquid sunscreens. This rule was popularized by Tiara aka MakeupforWOC who is an esthetician on Twitter and Instagram. This method involves using the index and middle finger length of sunscreen, with the option of adding your ring finger to ensure full sun protection for your face, neck and ears. To make sure you have enough sun protection before leaving the house use a full teaspoon to cover the face, neck and ears, then apply whatever else is left over on the back of your hands and half a teaspoon for only your face. When applying sunscreen, make sure there is an even application, rubbing it into the skin and wait 15 minutes before any sun exposure. Reapplication is recommended every 2 hours after the initial application. If you are also wearing makeup there are the options of spray, powder, cream/lotion for spf. The rule of thumb for reapplication of sunscreen is to blot your face before, as the oils from your face can breakdown the spf. My two fav sunscreens are LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 50+

1 week update
thanks to all lovely beauties out there to take their time and add a comment on my last post. I was devastated by breakout, i was having from last 2-3 weeks and nothing seems to be working. Well i guess too many exfoliants was making my skin too sensitive so now i am back to basics. I have started what i was doing in the beginning and that seems to be working just fine. I think i was selfish to have a great skin in no time 🥴. If someone is just curious what i am doing right now then lets go to products. AM: The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser sukin - Pore Perfecting Toner Blemish Control it has tree oil which is good for acne prone skin The Ordinary - Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 50+ as i have sensitive and oily skin this makes my face matte and oil free. I really like this one for oily skin or combination skin PM: The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser sukin - Pore Perfecting Toner Blemish Control The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (only on spots and acne 2-3 times a week) The Ordinary - Mandelic Acid 10% + HA (once a week) The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (once a week) The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque (once a week) The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane tea tree oil only on spots Even if i have listed so many items i feel i have very basic skin care routine as most of the products are being used weekly or only 2-3 times a week. But in the end this routine is working out for me and i am seeing good progress which makes me happy. Again thanks to all who suggested me before ❤️❤️
Purging or breaking out ??
Can someone tell me if its purging or i am just started breaking out after almost 3 months of using The ordinary products ?? It was getting better but now on one side its getting worse. Products i am using AM The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 50+ PM The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque OR The Ordinary - Mandelic Acid 10% + HA OR The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane I have combination skin but after some research i have decided to go with these ones. If its only purging then i am happy but purging suppose to happen everywhere on face and this is only on left cheek specially on jawline that hurts ☹️ Thinking to use PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator to give it a try Thanks a lot lovely ladies
SPF EVERYDAY 🧴☀️
Lately I’ve been really neglecting my skin and not doing full on skincare routines, I’ve been too low on energy and I’ve talked about how this is major issue for me. When I’m not feeling my best I tend to neglect myself. BUT I’ve still been using SPF on the daily! It’s literally the only step I never ever miss and it’s very important. SPF protects skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays that accelerate cellular oxidation. These are the ones I’ve been using lately: ☀️ cocokind - Daily SPF Cocokind can do no wrong! I’ve been waiting for a sunscreen from them for so long. This is a mineral formula which I often don’t like because they feel heavy on my skin, and this one is the heaviest out of these three but it’s definitely a lot lighter than other mineral sunscreens I’ve tried before. It also protects from blue light and pollution damage. It’s formulated with phytoplankton and microalgae. ☀️ Dr. Loretta - Urban Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF 40 this one is an all-time favorite of mine! It has a slight peach tint so I can use it on its own with no makeup. This sunscreen highlights key ingredients like Indian ginseng extract to protect skin from HEV light and zinc oxide protects skin from UVA/UVB and other external irritants. I need to pat it in rather than rub it as it tends to pill but it’s no issue for me. ☀️ EVERYDAY HUMANS - Resting Beach Face SPF30 Sunscreen Serum this is the lightest formula out of these three. It leaves literally no whitecast, and wears beautifully under makeup. It leaves my skin looking super dewy and perfected. This formula has hyaluronic acid to plump skin + spinach and green tea to strengthen your skin barrier. It smells the most like sunscreen but the smell fades quickly. What’s your go-to SPF? 🌴 #CheriePartner
Greatest Sunscreen Of All Time
I have never found a sunscreen that works so well. It is not irritating, doesn’t cause breakouts, and it feels comfortable to wear. I also love that it has such a high protection rating. I have repurchased this 10+ times and will continue to repurchase! It is very affordable, although a bit hard to find. If you have a hard time finding sunscreen you can wear everyday, I highly recommend give the Purito Unscented SPF 50 a try. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+

$20 Gets You My Least Favourite Sunscreean, Ever
With combination skin that’s quite sensitive, I avoid fragrance, essential oils, and high amounts of alcohol in products. That can make finding a good, affordable sunscreen difficult- alcohol is used to thin texture, fragrance is added to cover the sunscreen smell, etc. But I have a few favourites that let me know it can be done.... yet, La Roche Posay missed the mark. Hard. This silicone-heavy sunscreen manages to check all the boxes both on avoiding ingredients I don’t want and managing to have all the features I dislike in a sunscreen: Feels Heavy? ✔️ Pills No Matter What I Apply Under It? ✔️ Emphasizes Skin Flaws? ✔️ Is Not At All Pleasant to the Touch? ✔️ I’m normally not so harsh on sunscreens, but this was so bad that I would vocally complain about the texture and finish to my husband as I applied it. But, its formulation saved it in one retrospect that earned it 2-Star status instead of 1-Star status- it lasts fantastically through swimming. It didn’t budge, the unpleasant heaviness reminding me it was still very much on throughout the two hours of my swimming until I scrubbed it off my face and applied my preferred sunscreen. This may work for some folks, but I’m not sure who- it clung to dry areas yet managed to make me look shiny despite using lightweight moisturizers. I plan to try more LRP sunscreens, as I know they’re a drugstore skincare standard, but I’m not super excited to be honest.

my go-to sunscreen for outdoor activities
Love this sunscreen. This formula is anti-aging. This is super smooth and lightweight. The texture is liquidy and blendable. I like to use it with before makeup or just blend it in my moisturizer/day cream. SPF 50 is good for outdoor activities.. But re-application during the day is still a must.PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50

An all- time favourite sunscreen
Disclaimer! I have combination, more oily, sensitive acne- prone skin. What may work for me may not work for you! If anyone remembers first getting into Skincare or K-Beauty, you’ll know that you would’ve been introduced to this beauty. There is a reason why this has been a long running favourite in the beauty community for sunscreens, because it’s just so too good 😂 dear, klairs - Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA ++++ The texture super light and is like the in between of a water cream and gel and goes on very smooth and doesn’t leave a tacky or sticky feeling afterwards. There’s also no smell and is SPF 50+ PA++++ . For someone with more oily skin though, this tends to make me shiny after a few hours but re applying doesn’t seem to be a bother- so I wouldn’t say this sunscreen could be sweat proof. This seems so sit pretty well under makeup though, but would definitely recommend putting on a primer beforehand, even if your doing a minimal look for the day. I’ve been restocking this sunscreen for over 2 years now and don’t think I’ll stop because whenever I do go through a “reset” period with my skincare, this is usually the sunscreen I reach for. For someone who absolutely hates sunscreens, this sunscreen has really changed my perspective and experience with them.

Ideal SPF for Dry Skin🌞
The struggle for the right SPF is so real 😩. Up until now, every sunscreen I have tried has left me with a horrible white cast and it was not cute. I bought this product on impulse and I loveee it!! I know a lot of us avoid using SPF because either we forget or cause of the white cast issue. However, this product goes on so smoothly and leaves no residue. Although, I didn't read the packaging and didn't realize how watery this product actually is (I mean it says fluid so clearly I actually can't read😂). Despite that, this product is a great SPF for dry skin like mine. This product claims to effectively provide UVA/UVB protection while hydrating your skin. It's been great for my dry skin! What works for me may not work for you, and vice versa! Always do your research before trying new products! 💕

Worst. Face sunscreen. Ever. 🧟♀️
CeraVe - Hydrating Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50 I was so hopeful when I purchased this product due to hearing a lot of good reviews about this brands other products. This was the worst face sunscreen I’ve used! It was thick, goopy and left the worst white cast I’ve experienced all over my face with the exception of my still normal looking eyes. The white cast coupled with my already fair complexion left me with the complexion of a corpse. I tried to rub it in after it sat on my face for a while, however it pilled and there were still visible white flecks of the product in my pores. I ended up using my micellar water to remove the product and opted to just stay indoors, out of the sun instead!

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
