DRY TO VERY OILY OVERNIGHT???? HELP!
My skin has always been fairly dry, even in warm weather. Although I have some teen acne, I’ve never had problems with oiliness.... until now!! All of a sudden, my skin type has completely changed! It is constantly shiny, oily, and greasy looking. I used to moisturize all the time, but now my skin never feels dry at all, even after cleansing. I have no idea what happened, but it seems as though I now have oily skin. Does anyone have advice for how to manage it? My current skincare routine involves cleansing first with philosophy - Purity One-Step Facial Cleanser . I think it works well, it does a good job taking off the oil that’s built up throughout the day. Then, I go in with my Curology - Curology formula. I haven’t been using this long enough to rate it, but my acne seems to have cleared up somewhat. I’m wondering if it’s the cause of the change in my skin? If so, should I stop using it? Finally, I moisturize. I used to use Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cream , but it’s too thick now for my skin. Instead, I’ve been using Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel which seems to work well. It moisturizes but is a nice thin texture, although it does leave my skin feeling a bit tacky. Any suggestions for what I should add to this to reduce oiliness? Help would be so appreciated :)
Current Night Skincare Routine 🌛
I have recently changed my skincare routine because I started using Curology. I switched to this from my DIFFERIN - Acne Treatment Gel because I wanted to try out tretinoin. They mention that it’s best to keep your routine simple, so that’s what i am doing! Cleanser: I do the two step cleansing method, which is where you first go in with an oil to break down makeup, sunscreen, and oils - then you go in with a water based cleanser to finish the job. The oil cleanser I have been using is DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil - I love this oil cleanser. It is so lightweight and simple. Plus once you add water it emulsifies beautifully without leaving any residue. The water based cleanser I have been using is the new CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser this is a game changer!! It’s like the combined the hydrating formula with the foaming formula! Doesn’t strip the skin at all but foams a lot! Toner: Necessary? No, but I do like a good hydrating toner to just prep my skin for the next step and restore some of the moisture from cleansing, even tho that cerave doesn’t strip my skin. I have been loving this ETUDE HOUSE - SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner - I have only been using this for about 4 days so I can’t recommend it yet but I do really like it so far. Treat: Here comes the Curology - Curology formula - I have a post talking about my formula and stuff so check that out if interested but so far I’m enjoying it. Moisturizer: This stuff is my new HOLY GRAIL! LA ROCHE-POSAY - Cicaplast Baume B5 for Dry Skin Irritations is so good for dry irritated skin. It’s called a baume but it sinks into the skin amazingly, without being greasy and sticky. I haven’t experienced any dryness from tretinoin because of this product. So that’s it! That’s my whole skincare routine. I’ve really been enjoying a more simple routine and I think my skin is too. :)
How I Deal With My Acne
Big disclaimer before I begin: I don’t get a lot of huge breakouts. My main problems are dark spots and dullness. Acne? Not so much, although I do get pimples here and there around my monthly period. My methods for getting rid of my acne may not work for people who deal with a lot of cystic acne, but if I manage to at least point you in the right direction, it would make me really, really happy! ☺️ So anyway, like many other people out there, I tend to get pimples on my nose, forehead, jaw, and chin. There’s nothing wrong with getting pimples, but I can’t deny that not only do they not look pretty, they’re also a hassle to deal with (painful pimples, I’m glaring at you right now). This method has never failed to solve my issue with my pimples. Whenever I get them, I simply use these three products. If I happen to have a breakout, I switch my toner to COSRX - Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner because it’s really gentle and soothing to the skin. Centella is an ingredient that is known to be really effective for blemished skin. But not all Centella products are effective in removing pimples. In fact, for a while, I also used COSRX - Centella Blemish Cream but it worked so slowly that I wasn’t sure if it even helped. Plus, with a price tag of $20 per 30ml tub, I found it too expensive for something that didn’t work too well. Thankfully, I discovered MARIO BADESCU - Glass Bottle Drying Lotion It’s roughly $25 per 30ml bottle, which is technically more expensive than Cosrx’s Blemish Cream. But since it works like magic, it’s really worth the price you pay. Just dip a q-tip into the bottle and apply the solution right on your pimple. When you wake up the next day, your pimple will be either be flat or considerably smaller. That’s why I said it works like magic. Once the pimple starts drying, I use COSRX - Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch to cover it up and to speed up the healing. I also use it on pimples that have already popped, because again, it helps greatly with the healing process. It also helps me avoid scars that could come from pimples. With just these three products, I could easily deal with my pimples, especially around that time of the month. What about you, what do you use to combat your acne? Let me know in the comments below!

Dark spot treatment!!
One of the creams which I have been using non stop for lil over two weeks is this sleeping cream from renskincare which they gifted me months ago but never had a chance to test out until recently. renskincare is one of my favorite brands and their products are simple and work so effectively on my skin. I used this sleeping cream am and pm but only spot applied on my dark spots and acne scars to really see if there is a difference and let me tell you I did a certain change in my spots. They went from dark tan to light medium tan which is a huge thing for me. Some of the main Ingredients are encapsulated algae complex which helps pigmentation visibly lighter and phytoGlycogen which helps skin recharge and give a glowing complexion. I'm really impressed with this sleeping cream. Although it's an overnight cream I use during day to on spot areas. Which is your favorite REN CLEAN SKINCARE - Overnight Glow Dark Spot Sleeping Cream renskincare product?

* the images above were taken with flash i used to be really self conscious about my skin, but over time i’ve learned to deal with it. overall my skin has improved since my teens (unfortunately any pictures of my skin during my teens are either deleted, nonexistent, or severely edited) but sometimes i feel like getting the 100% clear skin that i want is impossible. i decided to share these images because 1. i haven’t posted in quite awhile (school, sorry!) 2. i experienced a painful under the skin pimple for the first time around my nose yesterday (which frustrates me because i know it’s due to the excess sebum my skin has been producing lately and idk why it’s producing so much 🙃 maybe the humidity?) 3. i feel more comfortable in this environment since i know that there are others facing the same frustrations as i am so i wanted to remind everyone that you’re not alone ✨ during quarantine i’ve been using the bare minimum (along with my prescription meds) because i felt that my skin was overwhelmed: By Wishtrend - Acid-Due 2 Mild Gel Cleanseralternating with: PanOxyl - Acne Creamy Wash Benzoyl Peroxide 4% Daily Control COSRX - Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion in short, i feel like this routine is almost too simplistic to target all my skin concerns. at this point, my skin is ready to be slowly introduced to new products. i’m currently drafting a new skin care routine for myself that targets hyperpigmentation and oil balance. i haven’t made any final decisions but i might be purchasing these products to use in conjunction with my prescribed spironolactone and tretinoin cream: acne.org - Acne.org Cleanser- i just needed a basic cleanser with nothing special about it so that all the work can be done by the products i layer after facetheory - PoreBright Serum N10- to target excess sebum production, acne, and hyperpigmentation elta md SKINCARE - AM Therapy Facial Moisturizer- i’ve heard a lot of good things about this brand and by the looks of it this moisturizer will be suitable for AM and PM use. the formulation also looks simple to me, which is a bonus because i’m aiming for a routine that causes minimal irritation so i can be consistent + some bipoc owned skincare brands! i’m always open to opinions and suggestions. has your skin fluctuated a lot during quarantine as well?

ACNE & DARK SPOTS?! You need this!
COSRX - Centella Blemish Cream a product that slowly but surely has become a favourite in my skincare regime. I constantly would breakout but not not as much due to getting my skincare routine down 🎊 But those of you who still struggle with breaks outs and acne leaving dark spots after they leave, legit those bother me so much but after using this on some of my dark spots and active acne, it really ensures my breakout is taken care of and doesn’t leave me with a dark mark after! It can be used as an all over cream but I normally use this as a spot treatment for my breaks outs in the evening as it has a slight white cast 😭 but otherwise, if you have a habit to pick at your pimples, try this out and stop picking them because this will help you within a night or two

I have S U P E R dehydrated skin that is acne-prone and quite sensitive; which also ends up making it oily thanks to lack of hydration 🤦🏻♀️ I started using this Honey Propolis Enrich Essence with the hope that it would help my skin stay hydrated throughout the day, and man it delivers 🙌🏻 Since I’ve switched my routine to a hydration focused line instead of acne / oil line, I’ve seen a HUGE improvement in my skin, not only in blemishes but also in oil production and texture. Do I like it? YES, absolutely. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Feeling / Texture? The texture is kind of like honey (no jokes here or intended puns) it does feel a bit sticky / tacky and putting too much on your face will definitely end up being a turn off for a lot of people on this product. I don’t particularly enjoy the texture and at first I was using way too much. BUT! I have found the perfect way to apply it; I put just a few small drops in my hands and rub them together for a second and then apply it to my face in a circular motion, towards the end I just gently pat it in for absorption. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Price? The price is a bit steep, for me, but not compared to other essences. Also, considering that a little goes a hell of a long way, the bottle will last awhile. (I use mine AM and PM for the last three weeks, every day, and it’s still almost completely full). ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall Judgement? Ultimately, I’m not fond on the price or how easy it is to accidentally apply too much and get sticky. However, the fact that it has been a key product in my skincare routine that has helped keep my face feeling hydrated and plump all day long has me already looking at buying another bottle and I’m not even halfway through! I have to admit that this is the product that has opened my mind and eyes to using honey / royal jelly / propolis in my skincare routine and I’m now looking for more products of the same sweet honey type to add to my hydration routine ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recommended for? I would honestly recommend this for every skin type, even oily (I’m oily too 🙋🏻♀️). Its a bit sticky but using only a tiny bit goes a long way and it helps to keep moisture binded to your skin since honey is a natural humectant. Therefore, all skin types could benefit from this product, but especially dry and dehydrated types. For my sensitive skin it doesn’t bother it at all. BUT ALWAYS DO A PATCH TEST FIRST, YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE THIS IF YOU’RE ALLERGIC TO BEE POLLEN, BEE PROPOLIS, HONEY, ROYAL JELLY, ETC. Ingredients? Propolis Extract, Honey Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Butylene Glycol, Dipropylene Glycol, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Glycerin, Beta-Glucan, Lactobacillus Ferment, Saccharomyces Ferment, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium Edta, Carbomer, Arginine

Is Niacinamide Really Worth the hype?
Niacinamide - you’ve seen it all over this app (including my previous posts), you’ve seen it on YouTube & you’ve seen it listed on ingredients list but what is it? Also called nicotinamide, it’s a form of vitamin B-3. Vitamin B-3 is an essential nutrient that if you don’t get enough of, it can lead to disorders of the skin, kidney and/or brain. What are it’s benefits? Overall, it helps build proteins in the skin so that your skin stays firm & healthy and locks in moisturize to prevent environmental damage. According to the US National Library of Medicine, more research is needed but it is labeled as “possibly effective” for the treatment of acne & “insufficient evidence to rate effectiveness” for the treatment of eczema. Aside from the need for more research, Niacinamide has also been claimed to minimize redness & blotchiness, minimize pore appearance over time, regulate oil, treat hyperpigmentation, and minimize fine lines & wrinkles. What foods can Niacinamide be found in for a well-balanced diet? Eggs, cereals, green veggies, beans & fish However, the only way to ensure that Niacinamide is targeting your skin is to use it topically! Like using CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion ⚠️ Disclaimer: Talk to your doctor before considering supplements because they should only be taken to treat a deficiency! Overall, there isn’t a confident amount of research availabile to rate Niacinamide as 100% effective but I’ll still be using it! I get my Niacinamide in daily after washing my face at night. I chose this CeraVe moisturizer because I wanted something non-irritating but beneficial to use on nights where I exfoliate. What are your thoughts on the hype over Niacinamide?? 👇🏻
