I have fine hair that is easily weighed down by leave in treatments. It’s hard to find good products that help keep my hair looking healthy and create body. I have a short, textured bob style OUAI - Texturizing Hair Spray

Carla_Health_Beauty_ChatI'm curious to try the Living Proof line. Would you say it's worth it for a thick hair type? Also, love Morroccan Oil. Classic!

beautiewithjenIt’s hard for me to say as I have such thin hair. But I do know my stylist, the one I mentioned, had recommended it and has done so for several of her clientele. I also know she uses Olaplex in her salon and it’s a well loved line for the gals with extensions.

Instagram made me buy it! Ouai (pronounced as way), means yes, in a casual Parisian way. This brand is everywhere and promoted by our favorite beauty gurus, celebrities and the most influential family, the Kardashians. I love its modern and minimalist packaging. It really stands out when you enter Sephora. It is also a cruelty free brand yay! For me, it’s really important to use products that are safe and free from any harmful chemicals. Another reason why I love Ouai as their products are formulated without parabens and sulfates. OUAI - Texturizing Hair Spray This is a hair spray and a dry shampoo in one. I use this after curling my hair to add more volume. The holding power is not that strong but it works well to tame my baby hair when I do a high tie ponytail. The most effective way is to flip your hair upside down, spray and scrunch using just your fingers. It doesn’t leave a heavy residue but it makes my hair oily the day after I used it. Other than I love this product and it smells amazing! OUAI - OUAI Wave Spray I grew up in the tropics and one of my essentials when going to the beach is a good wave spray. I bought this in mini and used in during my travel to Bali. Nothing special about this but it does the job of creating beachy waves and enhances the hair texture. OUAI - Rose Hair & Body Oil I actually prefer to use it on my skin. It is light and fast absorbing. I would always bring this with me to the beach and combine it with my tanning lotion and it works perfectly everytime. The scent is not overpowering, dispenses easily & a little goes a long way. #cheriepartner@cherie
Maybe you’re doing it wrong!
Having thick hair can seem so luxurious on a good hair day, but come a bad one, I almost feel ready to chop it all off! Not that I would, I enjoy my long hair too much for it. My hair is especially challenging because not only is it thick and long, but my hair is also course. This means that doing anything at all to my hair requires a long period of time, and a good amount of upper body strength! Because of this, I used to hate straightening or curling my hair, and most of the time I just hoped for the best. It used to take me ages to straighten my hair for an event, only for it to get frizzy and unmanageable within a matter of an hour. But I soon figured out how to tame this mane of hair! It is my fixed routine that doesn’t fail me at all! I generally start off the straightening process by applying a good amount of the L'ORÉAL PROFESSIONNEL - L'Oréal Spray before using my straightener. I bought the 5.7 oz fl (170 ml) spray for only $4! Once I have that applied throughout my hair, I get started on the straightening. For thick and long hair, sectioning is SO important! I typically start out by sectioning layers and beginning with the lowest one. I then work my way upwards towards my crown. Another huge addition to this routine is the use of a good paddle brush. Now, people may generally use a wide-toothed comb during the straightening process, but I stand by the paddle brush. Because my hair is thick and course, it also gets tangled easily, so I strongly prefer the detangling paddle brush over a comb to get the job done. I use this brush to figure out which part of the section will be getting straightened and essentially, the brush is leading the straightener. This method, I find, is SO helpful in getting every strand of hair straightened. Before, I used to have sections of wavy hair and other sections of straightened hair, but with this method, EVERYTHING gets beautifully smooth and straight. Once I am satisfied with the result, I set everything down with the OUAI - Texturizing Hair Spray that I got for just $12 (!!!), and this makes my straight hair last the entire day!
1st time using Moroccan oil 🧜🏼♀️
I received a Moroccan oil sample from Sephora and couldn’t wait to try it. I applied a small amount to damp hair and slept with my hair in French braids for the night. I woke up with gorgeous and shiny mermaid waves! (Btw the smell of this product is amazing) MOROCCANOIL - Treatment Light Since my hair is naturally very straight it almost never lasts like this, but I noticed with the Moroccan oil it stayed longer than normal. Next time if I want to keep up the look I’ll probably use some hairspray as well.
Will this save my hair?!!
HELP!! My hair has been in the same routine regarding colour and treatments for over 12 months so it’s nothing out of the ordinary there! I am brunette and had balayage via foils over 12 months ago now.. my hair dresser applies a toner each time I have my roots done (every 6 weeks) For some reason my hair has gone really strange this last month where the blonder part has become really dry and the ends have changed texture and feel really course! So in a bid to return my glossy locks I’ve just had 2 inches cut from the ends because the texture had changed, dry and brittle, and have gone back to brunette! I’m about to introduce these two products MOROCCANOIL - Weightless Hydrating Maskand MOROCCANOIL - Treatment Lightinto my hair routine! I’ve used MOROCCANOIL - Treatment Lightin the past and my hair loved it! Here’s hoping I see some results soon 🤞🏻💕💁🏻♀️
The three bumbleandbumble styling products I can't live without. HIO leaves my hair so soft & shiny, while protecting from heat & UV rays. Does It All seriously lives up to it's name - delivers soft hold & protects hair from hot tools, but never leaves the hair crunchy or sticky. Thickening Dryspun Finish gives hair this light, airy texture (and it smells SO good). 🙌
Bumble and bumble.-Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil
Ouai’s Matte Pomade is one of my all-time favorite hair products. It gives my hair that perfectly imperfect, piecey, matte texture & separation without feeling sticky or heavy. It seems counterproductive, but I’ll sometimes mix the Matte Pomade with a bit of hair oil. It’s the perfect combo, especially on freshly washed hair. I’ve been itching to try some new Ouai goodies - Air Dry Foam & the new Volumizing Hair Spray are next on my list.
Tarocco Foot Cream
I received this product in my summer FabFitFun box. I haven’t tried many foot creams in the past, but I notice that my heels always seem pretty dry so I was really excited to try this out! The scent is Sicilian blood orange so I expected it to be a nice citrus smell. It’s very faint smelling and it contains menthol so the smell is more of a minty citrus. Not bad though! The only reason this didn’t get five stars is because I wish it was just a little thicker! Overall this makes my feet incredibly soft immediately after applying. Definitely recommend!CALI - Tarocco Foot Cream

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
