Sleek+Straight; Best Styles for Oval Face Shape

avatar
bare.beauty.blog
My face shape has always been a cross between oval & round; I have found that one of the most flattering styles for my shape is sleek and straight. Here’s the steps I take to achieve shiny, sleek, healthy looking hair that frames my face and helps to slim down the roundness👇🏻 My hair is naturally straight and is fine in texture. While my natural colour is blonde, it is also colour-treated (bleached) throughout. 1️⃣ I started with day-old, air-dried hair; first I sprayed in the eva·nyc - Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer
to protect my strands from the heat of my flat iron and prime it for styling. This spray is a very fine mist and works great to prep the hair for heat styling (my only con is that it’s very strongly perfume scented). 2️⃣ Next I ran my eva·nyc - Spectrum Far-Infrared Styling Iron
through my hair, concentrating on the hair around my face to make sure it was evenly sleek and not frizzy. Personally, I only flat iron my hair from just above my ears down because I find if I flat iron the roots it leaves my hair too flat and without any volume. 3️⃣ Last, I misted on some of my KEVIN.MURPHY - Shimmer Me Blonde
which is a shine-enhancing spray made for blondes, with violet-hued reflects to tone out brassiness (they have one for brunettes/redheads too!). I love this stuff, it feels nourishing but light and makes my hair shiny without being greasy. Honestly, it’s a super simple look but I always feel a little bit glam when I go for sleek + straight locks - it feels so timeless. Hope you enjoyed!!💁🏼‍♀️🤍

Saying Goodbye 👋🏼
This past year I’ve been very aware of my purchases and also very cautious about what I’m bringing into my makeup/beauty collection. Every once and a while I will do a little bit of a declutter and make sure I’m only keeping the things that I’m using on a weekly, or at least monthly basis. This most recent declutter I noticed these two products and realized I haven’t reached for them in months. OFRA - OFRA Highlighter is a beautiful formula- it’s what makes these so many people’s favorite highlighter, it easily glides over the top of whatever product you have underneath and gives you an intense glow. The only reason I’m getting rid of this is because my taste in highlighters have changed and I now like much more soft, more of a “lit from within” type of glow. A couple highlighters that I love and give me this effect are the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY - Irresistible Glow Highlighter Collection & my ride or die MAYA CHIA - The Highlight of the Day The #SGX NYC - So Whipped[products]#[FourStars] is a whipped mousse formula that is supposed to calm frizz, define natural curls, and create a little bit of hold- I do think that this does all of these things, but it’s in the smallest way and I have so many other products that give me better results! Currently I’m obsessed with the eva·nyc - Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer it smells unbelievable and gives my hair such a smooth texture without getting weighed down! The spray nozzle gives the lightest diffused mist so it’s very difficult to overdo it and use too much, highly highly recommend this one! I’ve found regular declutters and being deliberate about what products I bring into my collection really helpful. It’s let me find what my personal taste is and which products I’ll tend to gravitate for and will actually use on a daily basis!

Battle of the Budget 10-in-1s!
I’m all about low maintenance hair and saving money, so of course I have to review these 2 drugstore hair primers. I’ll be breaking down the winner by category and tallying the winner! Round 1: price- both are a standard 6 oz, but NYM is $7 while Eva is $12. Both are affordable but NYM wins this one. Round 2: texture- Eva is definitely the heavier of the 2 options, you can tell by the fineness of the mist. This is likely due to it’s high amount of oils in the ingredient lists, which is very good for moisture. Personally tho, since my hair is straight and fine, this tends to weight down my hair. Contrastingly, the NYM first ingredient is water which is probably why it’s lighter and cheaper. This round is a tie. Round 3: scent- Both of these are scented with fragrance showing up in the middle of the ingredients list. The Eva product is a stronger, fruity scent that is close to Viva la Juicy perfume, a personal classic of middle school. The NYM is also sweet, but closer to candy than fruit. It’s also lighter than Eva. This round is subjective for sure, but I give it to Eva since I prefer a strong scent if something is scented. Round 4: usage- by this I mean does it really do 10 things? Eva doesn’t list the 10 things on the bottle, but NYM claims to add body, detangle, add shine, protect, moisturize, control frizz, repair dry hair, heat protection, mend split ends, and create silkiness. I think a few of those are repeats, however the one it doesn’t follow through on is repairing dry hair. When I used NYM, I had to add an additional leave-in conditioner to keep my ends from looking dry. Eva doesn’t add body for me since it can make my hair look oily. Again, a tie! Round 5: flexibility- I find that I’m able to use NYM in more situations than Eva. With Eva, I only use as a heat protector since other usage tends to make my hair look wet or oily. I can use NYM as a detangler before I air dry, to calm down bed head, and to heat protect. This round goes to NYM! Results: I prefer NOT YOUR MOTHER'S - All Eyes On Me 10-in-1 Hair Perfector though honestly these products are pretty similar. I think the eva·nyc - Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer would work well for someone with thicker or curly hair because mine couldn’t stand up to the oils. Neither are perfect holy grails, but good for the price.

Blonde babe must haves!
Where are my blonde babes at? I see you! I’m a blondie too. I want to share with you, my 3 FAVORITE must HAVES for keeping blonde hair looking blonde! 1. Blonde angel wash- this is a purple shampoo that can be used once a week up to 3 times a week. 2. Blonde angel treatment- this is a purple conditioner that’ll help balance out any unwanted warm tones with a blonde. 3. Shimmer me blonde- being a blonde our hair doesn’t have as much dimension as a brunette, so this had shine. Another MUST have is Maxi.Wash- we need to clarify our hair from any product or mineral build up. I recommend using maxi.wash once a week followed up by blonde angel, and blonde angel treatment.

caring for straight(ish) hair
caring for straight(ish) hair
Today I want to talk about how I’ve learned to care for my hair, which isn’t stick straight but usually isn’t *super* wavy either. It can also get pretty oily in the summer; I have oily skin on my face, and the two typically go together. First, I tend to wash my hair every day. I know some people are very against this, but it’s what works for me! Since my hair is pretty straight and thin, it tends to get weighed down with product and I hate the feeling of sleeping on it. So I wash it every night. When my hair is wet, I comb out any tangles with a wide-toothed comb. I’ve found this results in way less breakage than if I comb or brush my hair when it’s dry. I use a wooden comb that was a gift, so I’m unsure of what brand it is, but there are lots of great wide-toothed combs out there. I rarely blow dry my hair. I used to blow dry it every day in high school so it would be stick straight, but thankfully that’s not the look anymore 🙃 It’s straight enough without subjecting it to unnecessary heat every day, and heat also makes hair brittle and more prone to breakage unless you use proper heat protectant products. If I do blow dry my hair, I use amika: - Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray to protect from heat and add extra volume and shine. I’ve reviewed this before, but just to recap: I love it! A little goes a long way to add just the right amount of volume to my hair. I’ll be honest: I haven’t been styling my hair much at all since I’ve been working from home since March 😬 Most days it’s just a scrunchie ponytail for me. I’ll occasionally add some Batiste - Batiste Dry Shampoo or SACHAJUAN - Dark Volume Powder to add some volume to my roots—both of these are great for making my roots look lifted, and I’m recommend them to anyone with straight hair in need of a little volume and texture.

when I need to make my hair style last, this is my favorite duo! OUAI - Dry Shampoo Foam is unlike anything I’ve ever tried. the mousse satisfies the “wet” feeling you get from showering, but it dissipates quickly to leave clean, dry hair!! amika: - The Shield Anti-Humidity Spray this is awesome right before styling—it adds protection to heat, as well as helps maintain a frizz-free look all day!! tennessee summer approved! these steps are super easy, but really effective. the added volume of the dry shampoo makes your hair look freshly washed! anyone can do it!

hair parts + face shape
hair parts + face shape
this is a subject I’ve tried to learn a lot about. I really notice a huge difference in my appearance depending on which way I part my hair. a middle part is said to give the illusion of length and symmetry. so, if you have a rounder face, you’ll probably like how it looks. a side part can help accentuate cheek bones and is said to be “universally flattering”. I have done both, and recently have been sticking more with a middle part. I suggest asking your hair dresser what they recommend. they often see us in an unbiased light and can tell you what looks best! my stylist said I could do either, because my face isn’t as long as I thought in my mind (lol). I think there’s exceptions to every rule, but switching up your hair part can be a fun and easy way to revamp your look! what do you think? do you prefer a side or middle part for me?amika: - The Shield Anti-Humidity Spray aussie - 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioner TRESemmé - Moisture Rich Shampoo With Vitamin E

Only 10 min and you'll have perfect curly hair!
Only 10 min and you'll have perfect curly hair!
My favorite style of long hair should be curly hair, but curls made at home is always not very long-lasting. Once the wind blows out of the house, the curls will disappear. When you curl your hair at home, the skill is very important, but the key is to make curls after modeling. First of all: choose a large diameter curling iron, and 38mm will be better.           Second: girls with less hair can be divided into two layers to roll, so that the the amount of hair will be increased.            Third: Turn outward. When loosening the curling iron, pay attention to stand up, and the bangs should be turned upward. Remember not to stay too long, so that the curled bangs will be more natural.                           Finally, for the curly hair, VS's air styling spray can help hairstyling more durable. It means that you need to spray evenly on the hair from the certain distance, and the shape of your hair can last for a long time. The VS air stereotyping spray is specially designed for girls. It doesn't feel stiff and will not cause white hair on the scalp. It has faint scent and very delicate. Your hair can be smoothed after waking up in the morning.

How to Survive Second Day Hair
How to Survive Second Day Hair
Second day hair can sometimes feel and look the worst – but it doesn’t need to be if you manage it properly. It’s difficult making sure your hair washing days line up with your gym schedule or days you actually might have to look presentable. All you need is a good trusty dry shampoo and some hair styling tips to get away with it (I won’t tell if you don’t!).Make sure to brush out your hair! It sounds obvious but sometimes I skip this step in the mornings (and I bet some of you reading do too!). One of my favourite brushes is this wide toothed wooden comb I bought from Amazon. It’s super gentle on the hair and can detangle any knots perfectly without any tugging. I switched to a wooden comb because I noticed my hair was getting extremely static a few months ago from the previous brush I had been using which had plastic bristles. I haven’t looked back since! A good dry shampoo goes a long way. One of my favourites is this cherry dry shampoo by Batiste. It’s super easy to work into the hair, great for building volume and leaves the hair smelling fruity and fresh. It great for absorbing any grease and gives my hair that boost that it needs, leaving it feeling clean all day. Curl your hair – I’m not sure about you but I’ve realised that curls work best on second day hair (and look the best too). They just hold so much better and for longer (even without hair spray). It’s great for adding some volume back into your hair that you might have lost after sleeping on it throughout the night. Make sure to use a heat protective spray before curling with a wider barrel for looser curls. Follow up with a volumising hair spray to hold your curls in and give it an extra lift.

Dealing with curly, thick, dry hair...
Dealing with curly, thick, dry hair...
Hi friends! I have had thick, curly, dry hair for my whole life. Bleaching it definitely added to the dryness and frizziness! Because my hair is so dry, I NEVER use hot tools on it, nor do I ever blow dry. Air drying is key for this hair type—especially if you have a wall of dense, thick hair like me! When air drying, first I’ll let my hair chill after the shower for about an hour (towel drying is NOT a thing with thick hair lmaooo) so my roots are less damp but my ends are still soaked. Then, I’ll take a quarter sized amount of a curl styling cream (today I’m using the Briogeo - Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Avocado Leave–In Defining Cream — it is so good for my curls and inexpensive) and finger comb it through my hair. This prevents tangles and knots from forming. Then, to make sure the product is evenly dispersed i will wet my hands with water and finger comb back through. To keep my hair out of my face while it’s air drying, I’ll usually clip or pin it back with bobby pins. 24 hours later through the humidity my hair is less frizzy than it should be, but the leave in curl cream is still in there so you can refresh your curls by finger combing again with wet hands! This cream lets me have my hair styled like this for the whole week before I wash again! What’s your main tip for thick, frizzy, curly hair?
