🧝🏼‍♀️Which primer is best?🧝🏾‍♂️

As you can see, I have a love hate sort of relationship with Elf primers. I’ve tried a gamut of types from sticks to sprays and dewy to eyelid. You think I’d have learned that Elf primers aren’t my thing and to stay away, but I recently got another in a travel kit featuring their new line of hemp oil products and figured I had enough players here to initiate a fair fight. When looking at these I’ll give my overall star rating, but I also want to comment on 🧝🏾‍♀️Texture 🧝🏻‍♂️Layerability and 🧝🏿‍♀️Effect for each. e.l.f. - Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer
This primer is overall a strange matte texture that dries on my eyes, revealing the creases under my shadow. I actually don’t recommend this one at all, even for the price. 🧝🏾‍♀️Texture: dries sheer but is matte and cracks 🧝🏻‍♂️Layerability: eyeshadow stays in place but looks dry and cakes if you apply more than a couple layers 🧝🏿‍♀️Effect: gives eyeshadow a dry look e.l.f. - Oil Control Primer Mist
I’ve talked about this one being a good most for pre-exercise but besides helping foundation or BB cream stick, that’s all I ever use it for: sweat control. 🧝🏾‍♀️Texture: it’s a spray that dries tacky. This gives it good hold but it makes your face feel dry and tacky without anything on top. 🧝🏻‍♂️Layerability: it holds foundation and BB cream well with no caking and does control oil, making it a good choice for oily skin. 🧝🏿‍♀️Effect: overall, you wont look dewy with this primer depending on whether you layer it. It’s good for controlling sweat or oil but it’s not impressive. e.l.f. - Prep & Glow Face Primer Stick
This one is too glowy even for my skin. It goes on sheer but feels like a balm on your skin that won’t soak in all the way. You could wear it alone if you just want a dewy look but it makes me look oily. 🧝🏾‍♀️Texture: this goes on like a balm and is sheer but it doesn’t feel like it ever fully soaks in this making me feel oily. 🧝🏻‍♂️Layerability: be wary that layering dewy products over this will make your face shine like Apollo’s ass. It’s a little too sticky to layer well with my products. 🧝🏿‍♀️Effect: it doesn’t blur enough for me to wear it alone, but it really does make you dewy. If your skin is drier than the Sonoran Desert, this may work for you. e.l.f. - Puff Puff Primer
This is my new holy grail primer. This stuff blurs your face, fills in pores, and holds makeup with a dewy but soft texture. I love this stuff and was blown away how good I looked with just this primer on. Finally Elf has come through for me! 🧝🏾‍♀️Texture: this stuff is thick and heavy (I use a dot for my whole face) but blending will make it smooth and soft on your skin. 🧝🏻‍♂️Layerability: this made my BB cream look 10x better than it ever has. No caking, no dry spots with strong hold. 🧝🏿‍♀️Effect: This legitimately made me look retouched. It’s amazing. Hope this helps! 🧚🏻‍♀️

Battle of the Foundations: Matte or Dewy?
Wet n Wild’s Photofocus foundation gets a lot of genuine platitudes, and for good reason. It’s cheap, blends easily, and has a nice medium coverage. I recently picked up the new “dewy” version meant to look more glowing than their regular matte variation. After swatching the two versions I have (one is much lighter and a different undertone as it is my husband’s) however, I don’t see much of a difference in effect, though both work well. Each foundation has been blended onto e.l.f. - Oil Control Primer Mist to see how they stack up. I’m sure you’re looking at the second picture and asking, “what the hell am I looking at?” You’re not alone. It was nearly impossible for me to take a pic that shows the minuscule subtle astronomically tiny difference between the two. Yes, the dewy version has a sheen to it absent in the other, but unless you fly to my house and come wiggle my arm around in the sunlight you’ll probably miss it. So what does this all mean? Well, I’m sure by layering a different primer under each you’ll get different results. I chose to use one of my only primers that isn’t specifically trying to be either matte or dewy. I actually use the dewy version consistently enough to say that it does have a sheen to it, but that’s because I tend to use a dewy primer (and it tends to be almost too shiny). At any rate, both of these foundations work very well for the price in terms of coverage and texture. I’ve even mixed this into my SPF moisturizer and it blends well. They offer coverage while looking like real skin, and I find that they layer onto various different primers without issue.

🏕Glamping Essentials🛶
I go camping a lot, but I have no problem with “glamping” in the family RV when I’m not in the mood to hoof it in the woods alone and eat granola bars and jerky to keep from starving. There’s no shame in glamping (even though the term was invented to shame the chewy granola among campers). When I glamp, I typically bring my “limbo” products: products that I don’t use daily or even like that much but have held onto so I can use them up. This trip, I’ve chosen three of my products that I like using to simplify my routine while I’m in the woods. VERSED - DAY DISSOLVE Cleansing Balm If you’re going to be out in the sun and wind all day, you need SPF and at night bug spray. You may even find yourself choking on campfire smoke all night. When you come back in after a long night, it’s easy to find yourself clogged and weighed down by all the gunk on your face. This cleansing balm is oil based and removes particles lingering in your pores. I follow this with a water based cream cleanser to make sure everything gets off my face, including campfire smoke and bug spray. VERSED - BABY CHEEKS Enter Baby Cheeks. This water based cleanser is an all in one that doesn’t fit in my regular routine but is great for mid day freshening up and taking for travel. It does the same job as a makeup remover, cleanser, and toner. While I don’t love it, it does help with the above and takes the place of multiple products when traveling. Even glamping you don’t have a lot of time or energy to doing a full routine of products, and this will hold you over while you’re away from home. e.l.f. - Oil Control Primer Mist I’ve reviewed this product before for my Take A Hike test. It’s a bit tacky for my daily use (I typically only wear a BB Cream and don’t usually mess with primer) but this stuff helps control sweat on your face even if used without makeup. Summer is a popular time for camping of all types, unless you’re crazy like me and winter camp as well, so sweat is inevitable whether you’re on a hot climate or hiking in the cold. Putting this on at the start of my day makes my face stay drier longer.

On my face: e.l.f. - Prep & Glow Face Primer Stick MAYBELLINE - Dream Fresh BB Cream 8-In-1 Skin Perfector SPF 30 L.A. Girl - Fineline Eyeliner L.A. COLORS - Personality Eyeshadow e.l.f. - Makeup Mist & Set L.A. COLORS - I Heart Makeup Brow Palette NYX - Lip Lingerie Matte Lipstick What I’ve learned is healthy skin makes the makeup! I no longer use makeup to cover up imperfections and redness out of embarrassment, but to accent my natural features. Makeup has become a fun way to test my artist skills and feel glowy. I’ve found some awesome and affordable brands for getting glowed up, or if you just want cheap makeup to experiment with! 💪🏻 All of the above are approved drugstore makeup that work on my dry skin to blur fine lines and smooth out discoloration and redness.

Whoa there, that’s a little too glowy my dude
I may just be stupid and not know how primers are supposed to feel. I recently had an awkward breakup with elf’s Oil Control Primer, and honestly it was me not them. They still live in my house, though, which is kind of weird. I’m not sure that I just don’t like primer as concept or on my face. If you don’t know me, I’m a drugstore dweller, a Walmart frequenter, a Big Lots beautician... I’m not glam. I’m more of a bottom feeder, I like finding affordable products from overlooked drugstore brands that work. Elf is a go-to for obvious reasons. Anyway, I wanted to try their dry skin oriented and newly formulated glow primer. e.l.f. - Prep & Glow Face Primer Stick Honestly, it goes on pretty sticky like a lot of things for dry skin tend to for me. You rub a thin layer on your face but I can’t help but imagine myself using the giant glue sticks I’d give to my kindergarteners during summer camp on my face. Why three stars? I gave this primer another chance after I reformulated my routine. Oil Control Primer got their second chance as a workout primer so what the hell. I tried the smallest amount possible on my skin and really worked it in. Elf claims that this is a nourishing primer that you can wear alone or layer well. As the title suggests, they mean glow when they say glow. It makes my face very shiny but it looks less dewy and more like a sheen. You may like the product more than I do. I’m pretty 50/50 on it. It works decent for dry skin but I don’t like the look or feel, but it may work better for you.

IL MAKIAGE — worth the hype?! Day 3
Picture 1: No foundation... Just so y’all can compare and contrast, ya feelssss? Picture 2: Layer 1! Medium coverage. Still stand by this. Very easy to blend... very breathable... and now that I reeeeally look at it, kiiiinda lighter than my skin lol! Also, note that this didn’t cover my breakout on my chin very well (same as yesterday’s post). Picture 3: Layer 2! Full coverage. Feels like absolutely nothing is on my face, if I’m being completely honest. BUT I’m not in love with how my face looks. This foundation is super matte (and I’m more into a natural finish with medium coverage), and after I put this 2nd layer on, I started noticing a very powdery look around my nose and on my chin. Kinda like I have dry patches and it’s clinging to my dry patches except I don’t have dry patches, soooo.... what’s that about, yo? 🤔 In conclusion, I think I’m done with this trial. I’m honestly not down to spend that amount of money on something I only sort of like. However, if super matte, lightweight, blendable, buildable, and breathable is your jam, go for it, girl!! The matte is just too matte for me... so I’m sending her back to her home. Toodles, IL MAKIAGE! It’s been reeeeeeeal. ✌🏼 Xoxo Xenia Oh! And I forgot to mention in the other posts: I used a sponge to blend my foundation out, in case anyone wanted to know. 😊 Products used on my face: 💁🏼‍♀️ Primer e.l.f. - Puff Puff Primer 💁🏼‍♀️ Foundation IL MAKIAGE - WOKE UP LIKE THIS 💁🏼‍♀️ Brows ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - Dipbrow Pomade e.l.f. - Clear Brow & Lash Mascara

e.lf. Skin Hit Kit: The Review
I LOVE skincare with CBD and hemp and when e.l.f. dropped the e.l.f. - Skin Hit Kit I just about jumped out of my sheet mask. I didn't wanna buy the products individually because that would be super expensive, but then the mini size sample kit was dropped and here we are! For 15$CAD you get the e.l.f. - Happy Hydration Cream e.l.f. - Calm Balm e.l.f. - All the Feels Facial Oil e.l.f. - Puff Puff Primer That's alot of product for only fifteen dollars! Now the part your probably reading this for, the review! e.l.f. - Calm Balm I love lip balm. Like so much, hydrated lips are so important. Their what people look at, what people kiss and i personally notice dry cracked lips before someone's skin blemishes. There's no smell to the lip balm and it goes on super smooth, like butter. Key ingredients being hemp seed oil and sunflower seed oil. My lips defiantly felt more hydrated, the balm retails for 5$CAD and it will be in my next e.l.f. order for sure. e.l.f. - Puff Puff Primer This is a makeup primer that is used before applying makeup, it preps the skin for the day ahead. Now I don't prime my face before applying makeup since i don't use foundation or anything. I didn't wanna waste the product so i still used it. I noticed it has vitamin A and C listed on in ingredient list and thoes are know to help brighten the skin's appearance. I use it in the morning before I apply SPF. I haven't noticed anything different but im not using as the product was intended for. This retails for 8$CAD and i will not be repurchaseing e.l.f. - All the Feels Facial Oil I have recently gotton into facial oils and i was excited to see e.l.f. had released a hemp one in the collection. It has a slight faint smell to it, i can't quite make out what it is but upon rubbing in the smell disappeared. It felt light on my skin and absorbed like any other facial oil i have used. It does have squalane in it which is known to help imporve moisture and elasticity of the skin. The website says it can be added into foundation for added moisture and radiance. This face oil retails for 12$CAD and it's iffy if i will be repurchaseing it. After a couple more uses i will know for sure e.l.f. - Happy Hydration Cream I love a moisturizer with "hydration" in the title and this product is most definitely hydrating. It's a semi thick white cream with no smell, almost feels like a gel when i first put it on my face. it took a little bit to get it fully rubbed and absorbed into my skin but my face felt soo hydrated after that I'm willing to look past that part. This moisturizer has Vitamin B5, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide This retails for 12$CAD and most defiantly will be a repurchase!

✨peachy pretty✨
hi everyone this is my first post so umm i’m not sure how all this works but here’s my makeup from today and all the products COVERGIRL - Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation so i picked this up the other day and i was pleasantly surprised, it’s very pretty and natural if you’re one to just do simple makeup i would definitely recommend this. it’s very dewy at first but it settles into a satin finish. overall i liked it but i personally like a little more coverage. e.l.f. - 16HR Camo Concealer i absolutely love this concealer but i actually like the hydrating one better. i barely have to use any powder to set it and it does last all day like it claims. the coverage is amazing and the finish is too. i have 2 and one says matte finish and the other doesn’t which is weird to me if anyone knows ab that lmk :) MAYBELLINE - Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder not my favorite powder but it’s also not the worst. i honestly just prefer translucent powder and when i just want to put just concealer and set it with this powder you can see a clear yellowish line lol so yeah don’t use it if you aren’t wearing foundation MORPHE - MORPHE Brontour honestly this sucks and i wouldn’t recommend, it might just be the shade i got but i’m not sure. i don’t really care for the concept of mixing your contour and bronzer together. BECCA - Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter i actually have the poured one but it’s discontinued and i couldn’t find it one here. i’m so sad because it’s absolutely beautiful and i won’t be able to get a new one. it’s literally the perfect gold highlight e.l.f. - Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer this is really nice and works very well but if you’re doing a black eyeshadow look it’s not gonna do anything. Juvia's PLACE - The Festival Palette I LOVE JUVIAS PALETTES!!! i literally swear by them. i have 4 and i love them all so much. the pigment is great and they blend beautifully. for this look i used the peachy shade and i mixed the gold and white shimmer shades for the lid. NYX - Vinyl Liquid Liner i really like this liner buttt i hate brush tips. felt is where it’s at. not much to say about this but after wearing it for a long time it starts cracking? idk i’ve only worn it a few times so far and i’ve noticed this once. ESTĒE LAUDER - Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara it’s very nice but the brush isn’t the best. if you aren’t careful you’ll have spider lashes. you honestly only need one coat and you’re done. NYX - NYX Precision Brow Pencil i love this but the colors are terrible, the black looks dark brown and espresso is warm brown. if you have dark hair go for black. i also used the magic cosmetics rose lip oil and its amazing, it heals and protects. if you have any questions just ask :)

Texture: a slick, silicone but creates a beautiful canvas! I decided to try this because I wanted to have filtered skin without wearing foundation and something that will help my skin. This primer works well with just skincare, and I don’t use foundation or anything on top of this. The feeling of this is very slick and silky and makes your skin look super flawless, and just like the name, poreless! Love love love this!e.l.f. - Poreless Putty Primer

PRIMER- PORES WHO?
PRIMER- PORES WHO?
The Primer that broke the internet⚡️ @elfcosmetics. Ft: Luminous Poreless Putty & Poreless Putty. ——————————————- So for the last few months I’ve been going store to store in Winnipeg looking for this primer, NO luck. So I finally decided I needed to make an order online to try these babies out. .✨ My first impression: Amazing! ⚡️. I love the luminous putty. To me it doesn’t chunk up under my foundation and gives me the perfect amount of glow. I did find it’s not as pore blurring as the original but still a new favourite. It has a buttery like texture which feels amazing on the skin. Sheer - poreless putty. I really like how thin and smooth it goes in your skin. This primer is more blurring. This girl needs that, I got some larger pores I want to hide. I really was surprised how amazing my foundation laid on top of it. It gave my skin the perfect blank canvas I need. Overall this is thinner in texture as you can see from my swatches but that doesn’t bug me. Feels light on the skin, does it’s job. ——————————————- Have you tried this line of Primers? If not, what’s your go-to? Let me know your thoughts ⬇️

Different primers for different skin concerns
Different primers for different skin concerns
Here are my top three primers that I like to use to target different skin concerns I might have that day. I’m still testing them out and combining them with different primers/foundations to see what works best, but these are probably still top three in my collection! First up is the: e.l.f. - Luminous Putty Primer Putty primers I feel like people either love or hate. I really like the consistency of it, but it does have some glitter in it. That may scare you away but I promise it is not chunky and looks beautiful on the skin. It is also unscented. The downfall - it is described “to help moisturize and grip makeup for all day wear”. I do not think it moisturizes my dry skin - it still looks pretty on but my skin doesn’t look *extra* hydrated with this - and that is why it only gets 3/5 stars. Next in line: CLARINS - SOS Primer This is specifically the “Green 04” SOS primer which is supposed to visibly reduce redness - and it WORKS. At $40 a pop it definitely is not cheap but, it does last a while. A little goes a long way and it really does help minimize the redness that I have on my cheeks. A whopping 5/5 stars. Last, but certainly not least: e.l.f. - Jelly Pop Dew Primer If there is one primer you should buy it’s this one. It has a tacky texture once applied to your face but, that’s exactly what you want! My makeup doesn’t feel like it moves when I wear this and I think I found the best combo (primer+foundation) for this product. I will be posting that soon!! 5/5 stars!

ELF Poreless Putty Primer
ELF Poreless Putty Primer
e.l.f. - Poreless Putty Primer I first heard about this primer while watching my daily video when I worked at Ulta. The brand representative said to use this, just take a pea sized amount and rub it between your fingers for 30 seconds to warm up the product. Then start by the nose and press the product into the skin and work your way out. Wait 30 seconds before putting any foundation on to give it time to settle into the skin. This can also be used as an eyeshadow primer if you use a little dab. I tried doing all of that exactly as they said and it wooooooorks so well! I just purchased my second one. I’ve heard some people say this is a good dupe to the Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer but IM NOT PAYING $52 FOR A PRIMER LOL IM SO POOR, so I can’t personally say it’s a dupe. I have swatched it in store before and they feel the same, so maybe! I’m satisfied with the Elf primer though.

e.l.f DEW PRIMER💖
e.l.f DEW PRIMER💖
Out of all the primers I’ve used, I think this makes the top of the list! The e.l.f. - Jelly Pop Dew Primer is perfect for wearing foundation for a long period of time. After applying, the texture is “sticky” enough for the foundation to adhere, which is absolutely what I prefer. Before this, I was only using mattifying primers, like it feels powder-y after applying, and sometimes it would make my foundation separate. With the e.l.f. Dew Primer, my makeup REALLY stayed in place! Not only does it help stay in place, it makes my skin look really glowy✨ Although I’ve never used the NYX - Honey Dew Me Up Primer, I would like to think this is a close dupe. If any of you used both of these e.l.f. and Nyx primers, lmk if they’re similar!
