My Curly Girl Method Routine for healthy curls

Since puberty, I’ve had thick spiral curls and of course, a boatload of frizz. Like skincare, it’s a journey to find the routine and products that will best accent your natural hair. As always, healthy is beautiful! Focus on healthy habits before you worry about picture perfect results! I helped my curls by following the curly girl method, a way of treating curls that avoids sulfates, silicones, and alcohols that strip hair of natural oils. Now, I’ll fully admit that my hair used to be greasier than a New York Slice. I chalked it up to genetics, and blasted my hair every other day with a lathering shampoo. Before CGM, I’d soak my hair in mousse and pray to the curl gods for a good hair day. What is the curly girl method? As stated above, it avoids products that strip oil from your hair and focuses on balancing your protein and moisture levels for healthy curls. Much like over cleansing your face can kickstart oil overproduction, using harsh shampoos on curls can make your scalp overproduce oil and can frizz out your hair. So, what do you do? Like skincare, it takes different products for different people and a lot of experimentation to get your desired results. Knowledge is power, so do your research. The biggest part of the CGM is co-washing: using conditioner to wash your hair. This cleans your hair without harsh sulfates or silicones in shampoos. You can then follow with leave in conditioners and styling products depending on what you want! It’s extremely unique to your hair and your needs, so learn to listen to your hair like you listen to your skin. Research and knows what your products are supposed to be doing so you can evaluate what works and what doesn’t. So is that it? I’ve had to simplify it down a lot, but there’s plenty of information online to help you get started, even an online bot that scans ingredient lists for CGM-banned compounds so you can find products that work for your budget and your curls. Like always, there are expensive options that may sound appealing, but the most basic CGM can be done for under $10. My routine is currently under $30: NOT YOUR MOTHER'S - Blue Sea Kale & Pure Coconut Water Sea Minerals Conditioner
NOT YOUR MOTHER'S - Blue Sea Kale & Pure Coconut Water Sea Minerals Shampoo
cantu - Shea Butter for Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream
I spent over five months perfecting my routine, and it took a lot of research, experimentation, and asking for advice to get it down pat, so be patient! My routine: 🌀Wash with NYM low-poo (sulfate free) 🌀Condition and leave for five minutes and rinse 🌀Add in some NYM conditioner as a leave in 🌀Scrunch excess water with a cotton t-shirt 🌀Rake in Cantu’s curl activator (just a little bit) 🌀Wrap my head in foil (seriously, it helps my hair absorb product and water through heat) 🌀Unwrap my head after 30min 🌀Air dry And that’s it!

Stephaniee_EI saw this term before, but I don’t know how to implement it. Thank you for sharing without reservation. I will try it immediately! Do you know how long does it take to improve?

lazyglowupIt depends! If you have damaged hair, that will need to grow out or be cut off before you actually see an improvement in hair health (that’s what people call the “transitioning phase”) but using sulfate/silicone free products can improve non-damaged hair’s health over a few weeks/months

I’m a devout follower of the curly girl method, which has transformed my hair from frizzy undefined curls into a healthy and bouncy curls. I had spent years accepting the frizz but now my hair routine is a part of my self care regiment that I use to indulge myself and feel self-love. I can recommend these to anyone, curly or not, as my husband also uses them. He tried them one day when he ran out of shampoo and now we share them, because of the fresh feeling and nourishing that you get in any hair type! I am going to speak specifically about why I chose these products and what they do for me, as you may find that they would work well for your needs and wants. What’s the CGM? It’s a way of healing damage and taking care of your hair that results in stunning waves and curls. I highly recommend it, as I have given up styling products altogether. I avoid parabens, sulfates (in certain products), waxes, and other chemicals that dry out hair or have a residue. Much like cleansing your face too much cause oil overload, washing your hair with harsh products too often can cause oil overload. I use this “low poo” to keep my hair clean and fresh but not stripped of its natural oils. These are great for low porosity curly hair. My husband also uses them and loves them on his wavy high porosity hair. What is porosity? It’s the shape of the scales on your cuticle that determine how easily your hair absorbs moisture and product. I have low porosity becaus means my hair needs heat and time to absorb products, my hair retains moisture and takes forever to dry, and all products I put on my hair will give me buildup that I need to wash off regularly. These products are a low-poo and conditioner that are 98% natural and curly girl approved! They have a subtle natural scent and make my hair feel smooth and moisturized. The low poo helps me get buildup off my hair without the intensity of sulfates in other shampoos. I no longer use any styling products on my hair, thanks to my use of the curly girl method and these awesome products. My husband also loves how they make his hair look and feel, and he is not using the curly girl method. Either way they may work for you and I highly recommend them to other curly or wavy-haired friends!

2nd attempt at Curly Girl
this is my second attempt at doing g CHM but j am doing my way. Last time I hated how gross my hair felt with all the products in it etc. and I had almost no results and my hair is naturally curly. So yesterday I washed with RepRenpure - Rosemary Mint Cleansing Conditioner which I like bc of the mint it feels nice on my scalp, like the tingle, but I feel like I need to use a ton to feel clean. then followed up with TRESemmé - Botanique Curl Hydration Shampoo which so far (1st time using) I liked definitely was helpful with detangling. and then after did HASK - Argan Oil Repairing Shine Oil Liked the smell and my hair didn't look greasy and the cantu - Shea Butter for Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream which I like, no cast or crunch, but I didn't want that, I'm sure you could get one. let my hair air dry up and I am liking the results I know some of these products may not be CG friendly, but I hated spending hours in the store and lots of money trying to find something CG friendly that worked for me. so I am hoping that i can stick with it and have better curls.

I finally gave in and tried the Curl Talk line
I finally gave in and tried the Curl Talk line
Welcome to my very first Cherie review!! I've been following the Curly Girl Method (with some modifications here and there) for two years or so now. I've been eyeing the Curl Talk line since it came out, and for some reason I just never made the plunge... until now! These are my first impressions. For reference, I have 2c, fine, medium porosity hair. The second pic is my hair on day one, and the third pic is after I refreshed on day two. Curl Talk Scalp Cleansing Oil: This right here is the star of the show. I have a dry scalp that gets flakes fairly easily, and this is probably the best shampoo I've ever used. My scalp felt so happy after using this. It's strong enough to get rid of buildup and flakes, yet hydrating enough for my dry scalp. If you can only try one product from this line, make it this one. Curl Talk 3-in-1 Conditioner: I enjoyed this conditioner. I used it as a rinse out conditioner. it detangled fairly well and has some nice protein ingredients if your hair likes protein. I say give it a try! Curl Talk Leave-In Conditioner: I like this leave-in because it's a lightweight spray. It's hard to find a spray leave-in that actually sprays like a mist and actually hydrates curly hair. It also works as a heat protectant for diffusing which is a nice added bonus. Curl Talk Curl Cream: So, I'm not typically a cream gal because they can weigh down my hair. I'm typically a mousse gal cause I love volume. I've tried the Curl Talk mousse before, but I find it to be pretty sticky. This curl cream is pretty dang great. It's hydrating enough to give me some nice definition, yet lightweight enough to give me some volume. It's kind of like finding a unicorn. I'm impressed so far. Let me know what you think of the Curl Talk line!

Best Leave-In Conditioners for Type 3A Curls
Best Leave-In Conditioners for Type 3A Curls
Happy Sunday everyone, As promised, here are the best leave-in conditioners that I have/or continue to use that have worked best on me. Just a reminder that I have type 3A curls and have also thin hair, so it may not work best for everyone. However, I just wanted to share them because they are also pretty underrated and unknown in the industry. aussie - Miracle Curls with Coconut Oil Paraben Free Detangling Milk Treatment The name speaks for itself honestly. This is my FAVORITE leave in conditioner so far. I cannot emphasize the difference in my hair when I used this product and then switched to try other leave-ins. The difference was so overwhelming that I decided to stick with it. You will notice that I use a lot of conditioning that has milk and has detangling properties because part of taking care of our hair is keeping it moistured (NOT WITH PURE OILS) and not allowing it to get too tangled. I will post, in the near future, other tips on how to minimize tangling in curly hair, so stay tuned! I also like that this product has small quantities of Coconut and Jojoba oil. While I NEVER recommend buying and applying pure oil, the fact that these are blended with milk allows for the properties of these oils to work more effectively without clogging your hair shafts. Coconut oil helps PROVIDE more moisture, while Jojoba oil helps SEAL in that moisture. Also, jojoba oil is the oil most similar to out bodies’ natural sebum, so this eases into our hair much more effectively that the other oils. You won’t see these mixtures in common products, so I highly recommend. Carol's Daughter - Hair Milk 4-in-1 ''Combing'' Crème This is another great product that I also use! What I do is use the Miracle Curls right after I wash my hair and style it. I use the Carol’s Daughter product on a daily basis to retouch my hair before going out. It’s really nice to use due to its detangling, styling, defining, and shining properties! And without the need of adding oils, which I like. novex by EMBELLEZE - My Curls Memorizer Leave In A product from Brazil that I really love! I’m definitely thinking of going back to this once the Carol’s Daughter product is completely consumed to see how it works alongside the Miracle Curls. The uniqueness of this product is the use of cranberry which help maintain a healthy and non-irritant scalp with its antioxidant, antibacterial, AND anti-inflammatory properties. And it also has a blend of oils in SMALL quantities that help moisturize and seal that moisture for a healthy hair without clogging the hair shafts. Please let me know how your hair feels if you decide to try these products for yourself! I would love to see if these posts are helping anyone, as that is the goal! Take care!

Inexpensive Curly Hair Products & Routine 🙌🏽
Inexpensive Curly Hair Products & Routine 🙌🏽
If I had a dollar for every time someone asked what I put in my hair… 🤪 No, but seriously. I have been playing around my hair routine (products and styling) for about 7 years. This has allowed to try various products, styling techniques, etc. But it has also taught me exactly what ingredients can and can’t work for my hair type. 🥑 I know a lot of the routines on YouTube & IG call for moderately priced to very expensive products that most people don’t have access to 😩🤑 So, I am here to share with you all 3 products I have been using on and off for years and exactly how to layer them in order to achieve flawless curls/coils. Well… almost lol PLUS! Two of the products are under $5 each, so you can get amazing curls for less than $25! 🥳 TRADER JOE'S - Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo with Peppermint - This shampoo is truly divine. Its cleansing without being overly stripping and lathers well onto the scalp. I would suggest washing once if you don’t have a lot of build up, but if you are looking to clarify for your scalp, an additional wash would be necessary. It contains amazing cleansers (No SLFs) that won’t strip your hair of its natural oils and does an amazing job of cleaning the scalp and the minty-ness adds a very spa-like sensation to your wash day. TRADER JOE'S - Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner - One word: MULTIPURPOSE. I love this conditioner because not only is highly moisturizing and has a lot of slip but it can also be used as a leave-in due to consistency. After washing your hair, apply a generous amount to your hair making sure majority of strands are coated, and wait 2-3 minute before detangling and rinsing. After rinsing (with cool water) apply another amount to hair making to coat it but not excessively. You want enough to add moisture back in without the strands being weighed down. SheaMoisture - Sacha Inchi Oil Omega-3-6-9 Rescue & Repair Curl Defining Smoothie - A little goes a long way with this product and I make sure to only add little bit to my hair after getting out the shower. If you have thicker hair, I would suggest using a bit more. I love this because of the smell and how soft my hair feels after using it. I also use this as a styling product when doing other hairstyles, so it has different purposed for me. Honestly, any Shea Moisture curl smoothie/leave-in will work well! 🙌🏽✨ Have you curly babes used any of these? Would love to know your thoughts as well. 💛

Help my hair!
Help my hair!
So my whole life I have always had long and supposedly straight hair because I had always had it done up and I had not had it down for 24 hours in YEARS so I was taking care of my hair as if it was straight and as you can see it is NOT STRAIGHT you could even call it curly. I had just found out last year... lol 😂 that I had curly hair 👩‍🦱 and I’m still new to this curly hair thing so if there are any tips or products you know of please recommend! My “hair routine” rn looks like - Use normal shampoo and conditioner 🧴 - Once a week leave in Marc Anthony hair mask in for 10 minutes then rinse out. - Get out of shower and scrunch water out of hair with t-shirt to reduce frizz - Scrunch in Marc Anthony curl enhancing lotion and styling foam. - leave hair in makeshift bonnet for 30 mins then let air dry. Also can someone tell me my hair type? Please educate me! 😘 MARC ANTHONY TRUE PROFESSIONAL - Strictly Curls Curl Enhancing Styling Foam MARC ANTHONY TRUE PROFESSIONAL - Curl Defining Lotion MARC ANTHONY TRUE PROFESSIONAL - Damage Repair Mask

For curly girls!6 tips you can stick to!
For curly girls!6 tips you can stick to!
Recently, my curly hair has become frizzy and I am looking for some methods to improve my hair condition. I asked for advise from my friends and did some research on how to treat my curly hair in summer. Today I’d like to go through some essential practices to ensure that our curls love summer too. Hope these tips are helpful to you🥰!   1. Use SPF! A Summer Curly Hair Care Essential Curly hair naturally has a tendency to be drier than other hair types and this means that we need to be extra careful! So we can use products which contain UV protectors for hair and we can factor (no pun intended 😉) these into our summer curly hair care routine.   2. Moisture and treatments – go all out on the conditioner in Summer! First wash your hair, then apply the mask generously through the mid-lengths and ends. Apply a low heat with a hairdryer. The heat from the dryer enhances the absorption of the deep conditioner. Then rinse the deep conditioner off and style as usual. You can also pre-poo with an oil to moisturize.   3. Minimize heat! If you will still be heat-styling your hair in the summer it is more important than ever to use a heat-protection product. Protect your curls as much as possible from the damaging effects of a heated tool and always use a diffuser on the lowest heat setting.   4. Wash with care! Using a good shampoo that won’t damage your curly hair is crucial. Sulphate-free shampoos may not lather up as much as other shampoos but they will still cleanse your hair effectively and are well worth investing in.   5. Humidity!  Humidity causes frizz! There are some anti-frizz/humidity products which don’t contain silicones. Some of these are called anti-humectants – meaning that they actually repel water away from your hair. These should be used sparingly, however, as extended use can dry air out. 6. Don’t stress! Don’t let worrying about your curly hair stand in the way of enjoying summer. Curly hair isn’t meant to be perfect 😉 Don’t be afraid of a little frizz and enjoy!   A great summer curly hair care routine will really make a difference. Don’t forget to moisturise your hair, use great products and, if in doubt, cover up those gorgeous curls! Do you have any tips for curly hair? Share with me!

$6? $ 26? Found RIGHT Shampoo For Your Curly Hair Whatever the BUDGET!!!😆
$6? $ 26? Found RIGHT Shampoo For Your Curly Hair Whatever the BUDGET!!!😆
I have 3a thick and dry hair. Sometimes it can be prone to breakage, which damages my hair. I am always on the hunt for new products to try and recently I have tried to use sulfate-free shampoo and they really save my hair!!! I used shampoo with sulfates before. Sulfates allow grime and dead skin cells to be removed from your skin and scalp and washed away with water. However, they also strip natural oils from the scalp and hair and can create a mass of tangles, and we all know our hair needs those oils. I also find that sulfates increase irritation when not rinsed off properly and in that case, investing in a sulfate-free shampoo might be a better option. Well, I've tried both expensive and affordable shampoos for my curly hair, and here're my thoughts.    🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟AMIKA Normcore Sulfate Free Shampoo $ 26.40 This is a sulfate-free shampoo which has such a good reputation on Sephora.com for the great things it does for hair! After two weeks of use, I have seen such a difference in the ends of my hair they feel so soft, shiny and hydrated. It has such incredible ingredients in the brand philosophy is also amazing. It contains sea buckthorn which promotes elasticity and provides superior hydration. And the coconut-based surfactants do help to remove extra sebum and product buildup from scalp and hair while infusing strands with fatty acids to give our hair a healthier, shiny appearance. Another pro, It smells great!!!!   🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟It's Knot Happening Sulfate Fred Shampoo $6 This shampoo was recommended by my friends to help improve my hair condition. It is freaking everything!! It does not strip your hair at all, leaves your quite soft & moisturized (which is unheard of for a shampoo), I was shocked by how much definition my hair had once I rinsed out the shampoo. But its fragrance does not smell as good as the first. I highly recommend curly girls with or y hair like me consider these two sulfate-free shampoos! Both of the shampoos are great, but if you're on a budget and not sensitive to fragrance, try the second one!
