The Truth Behind Propylene Glycol

You may have read articles about this ingredient used in both kitchens and beauty counters - Propylene Glycol (PG) but what exactly is this chemical? I decided to do some research on credible sources online to find out if the ingredient is beneficial for my combination skin.   A colorless and odorless liquid that is completely water-soluble, PG is mainly regarded as a moisturizing agent used in skincare products to attract hydration and locks it into the skin. Generally, anyone who is seeking deep hydration and smoothness of the skin can use products containing the ingredient.   The Cosmetic Ingredient Review board (an organization of scientists who review the safety of cosmetic ingredients) have confirmed that it’s ”safe for use in cosmetic products when formulated to be non-irritating.” This means that companies need to conduct skin irritation testing on new formulas to ensure PG does not cause irritation when mixed with other ingredients, which is a standard test that many skincare companies run before launching any new product.   As long as you do not have an allergy to PG, it is a safe ingredient to use regularly. Due to its multiple functions, PG works well with almost all other ingredients.   While I do not specifically seek products that contain PG, I find that products that contain PG helps to hydrate my combination skin well, giving it a dewy glow throughout the day. Other than its main function as an emollient, there are also various other benefits, including addressing visible signs of aging, enhancing penetration of the skincare product, and prevent skin hydration loss.   I have two products containing PG in my bathroom counter now. I use Nivea Oxygen Boost Micellar Water as a make-up cleanser before my gentle facial wash. Micelles in the liquid cleanser help to attract water, oil and the dirt that comes with them, which is effective when combined with a cotton pad or wipe work to remove stubborn make-up. Micellar water works well for my combination skin as a gentle and hydrating cleanser that is powerful to remove water resistant make-up at the same time. My skin does not feel too tight and taut after using this, thanks to its water based formula of hyaluronic acid, golden algae, Hydra IQ and marine salt.   Another product containing PG is CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly
. The lightweight water-jelly face moisturizer looks and feels different than most creams. The unique clear water-jelly texture feels fresh and penetrates quickly into my skin, especially for hot summer days. It delivers round-the-clock hydration repair, plus pollution protection with the formula’s “Clean Shield Technology”, formulated with a moisture barrier blend of sunflower seed cake, barley extract and cucumber fruit extract to strengthen skin’s barrier and retain skin’s moisture levels. On days when I want a lighter and more refreshing moisturizer, this is a nice change of texture.

Need skin advice
Hi, I’ve asked for advice before but for some reason my skin has gotten worse. A little background information I have to wear an n95 4 days a week for 8 hours for work. We have to wear the mask for 5 days before we get a new one. I’ve been using Clinique products starting in December such as CLINIQUE - CLINIQUE Clarifying Lotion 2, CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating JellyCLINIQUE - All About Clean Rinse-Off Foaming CleansercCLINIQUE - Smart Custom-Repair Serum I have a history of oily skin but the past couple of years it hasn’t been as oily. I’ve also never dealt with this bad of acne before or scarring. I’m not sure what to do or what products I should change or try out. Should I be using oily skin products or combination? I’m open to anything honestly or if I need to add a step to my skin care routine. Please let me know either way! Thank you

My Skincare Routine to Fix Acne-Prone Skin
I have been struggling with breakouts ever since I was a little kid. Throughout the years, I have developed a skincare routine that works well for when I am breaking out. I am sure that even those with perfect skin can sometimes get a pimple or two on their faces, and that requires a change from their usual skincare routine to help reduce the breakouts. I have extremely oily skin, and that causes a lot of sebum buildup on my face. The oils can get mixed up with the dirt and dead skin cells on the surface of my face, clogging my pores and ending up breaking me out. This left me with a lot of acne scars all over the face and uneven skin texture. My breakouts are often triggered by staying up late, hormonal imbalance during my period, or eating unhealthy foods. Skincare Routine Step One: Cleanse well using La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Anti-Acne Cleanser $20 / 200 ml LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin I always come back to this cleanser when I am breaking out because it cleanses well and is very mild. It is in a gel texture that foams up nicely when in contact with water. After using it, my face feels clean and soft, and all the oils and dirt are wiped away without overdrying my skin.  This product contains thermal spring water that softens, soothes, and protects the skin, and Zinc PCA that helps regulate sebum production. I did realize that my skin becomes less oily throughout the day if I use this cleanser consistently for a month. I also noticed fewer blackheads. I am happy with the price because of its effectiveness in reducing breakouts and the amount of product that could last me for weeks. I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family and repurchase this product when I am having breakouts again. Step Two: Tone and soothe the skin using Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray $20 / 300 ml Avène - Thermal Spring Water Spray This face mist is super effective in calming the skin. My face immediately feels refreshed and less red whenever I use it. My skin often feels irritated, itchy, and painful when I am breaking out, so I like to use this face mist after cleansing to tone and soothe my skin. It also contains thermal spring water that soothes and calms sensitive skin. It is very affordable considering its big size. Once again, I would highly recommend people with any skin type to give it a try, and you will notice a big improvement in your skin condition. Step Three: Hydrate using Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly Anti-Pollution $70 / 200 ml CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly  I like to use this moisturizer when I am experiencing breakouts because of its incredibly lightweight water jelly textures and its anti-pollution aspect. As I mentioned before, my pimples usually form from the mix of dirt and oils on my face. This moisturizer has clean shield technology that locks in moisture for the skin while filtering out the bad stuff from the environment. The clean shield technology is formulated with a moisture barrier blend of sunflower seed cake, barley extract, and cucumber fruit extract. The product also contains hyaluronic acid which acts as a natural moisture humectant.   I noticed that my skin becomes less irritable and breaks out less when I started using this product despite the bad air quality outside. There is definitely less dirt blocking my pores, and the product’s lightweight texture feels very refreshing on the skin. It did not suffocate my oily skin and gets absorbed into the skin quickly. It claims to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier and improve resiliency. Its oil-free formula leaves a non-sticky finish on my face, which I really like, and leaves no residue. My skin feels smooth, strong, and healthy with a pure, clean glow.

the re-turn madecera cream by
the re-turn madecera cream by skinrxlab , easily one of my favorite moisturizers year-round. I think I'm on my third one now? It's named for one of its main ingredients, madecassoside, a naturally occurring anti inflammatory compound, and it definitely works to soothe any irritation or sensitivity, as well as increase collagen synthesis. It's an antioxidant on its own, but works even better in conjunction with vitamin c to protect against UV rays and free radicals. The cream also features one of my favorite skincare ingredients, niacinamide, which brightens and also reduces redness, and is loaded with ceramides to plump and seal in hydration. Perfect for repairing or just protecting the moisture barrier, it defends against irritants and harsh weather. Yet despite feeling incredibly nourishing when applied, it's not heavy at all, so it works both day and night. I use it regularly in the winter and as a night cream in the summer. It does have a bit of fragrance though, so keep that in mind if you have sensitive skin. I stumbled upon it in early 2018, and decided to try it based on the ingredients, only then to see it hailed as one of the top new k-beauty launches of the year!

Too Faced: stick to makeup
Too Faced: stick to makeup
Let me preface this by saying the Too Faced hangover primer & setting spray are the primer and setting spray I reach for most often when doing my makeup. So, when they released a hangover skin care line, I was pretty stoked. This moisturizer contains jojoba oil, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid amongst other hydrating ingredients. The consistency is that of a regular day moisturizer but a bit thicker due to the sunscreen. Claims are that it’ll give you a dewy glow, leave no white cast, and fade dark spots and discoloration. I received 1 out of 3 of those claims. It gave me a dewy look, but it did give a slight cast, and has not, over time, faded my dark spots. Here’s why I gave it 3 stars: After the first use, I broke out horribly in places I’ve never broken out. First, I thought it was because it’s a chemical sunscreen, but the Coola Silk Drops are my HG sunscreen so I knew that couldn’t have been it. Have I sat down and took the time to go over the ingredients list to see what’s the cause? No. I just stopped using it. This review has reminded me that I need to do some research and see what was the cause of my breakouts. All in all, this could be a great sunscreen if it didn’t cause my acne prone skin to go berserk. Is it worth trying? Sure. Worth the price? No. It’s $34. You can find cheaper alternatives. It’s got some fairly good ingredients and i did enjoy the dewy skin it gave me. Take it from me and do your research before purchasing ANYTHING!

Hangover Good to Go Skin Protecting SPF 25 Moisturizer
Too Faced-Hangover Good to Go Skin Protecting SPF 25 Moisturizer
Why are we having such a pink
Why are we having such a pink moment? Does it have anything to do with the resurgence of classic clinical-style creams in metal tubes? A Re-turn to a simpler, sweeter, kinder time, perhaps? (see what I did there?) A retreat to the private world of the boudoir because the real world is just too insane right now? In any case, I'm here for it. The skinrxlab MadeCera Cream Re-Turn is one of the new generation of KBeauty creams that emulate classic French pharmacy creams like Embryolisse and Biafine. Except it's NOT mineral oil and petrolatum based, and it also includes exciting stuff like ceramides, madecassoside, and niacinamide. Designed to be used as an all-purpose cream for all skin types, this is a medium weight cream that doesn't feel heavy or suffocating. I like this very much. It absorbs well on my skin, especially when applied when my skin is still damp (from washing or previous layers). It softens and protects my skin well, helping it to retain moisture, and the soothing ingredients make it suitable for sensitive skin. My skin feels more elastic, looks brighter and less sallow when I use it, and feels more supple in the morning. With my combination/dehydrated skin, I'm able to wear this day and night. Would repurchase!

ASK & YE SHALL RECEIVE ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ A friend of mine requested that I do a review on weleda Skin Food. She said it performed miracles on her daughter. While researching I found an article written that a woman’s makeup artist used this and it was an unspoken holy grail among many. The woman fell in love with this stuff & wrote an article on it. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Let’s get to the stats: ⁣⁣ ♡ All skin types. Soaks up fast leaving luminous skin that looks natural. It doesn’t look greasy so oily skin don’t worry. The woman in the article had oily skin and was afraid as well. Although, I can’t attest to that bc my I have dry skin. ⁣ Also, it soaked up fast (5mins) on my hands but not so fast on face. 20 mins later and would serve as a great primer. However, I think this is a great night time treatment if you’re in a morning hurry. ⁣ ♡ No chemicals, completely natural ⁣ ♡ Hydrates with rosemary, chamomile & pansy ⁣ ♡ Sunflower seed oil, Chamomile, Tricolor Viola, zinc sulfate, no parabens, no phthalates, avocado oil, pansy extract. Swipe for full list ⁣⁣ ♡ Heals scrapes, burns, can tame frizzy hair, hydrates elbows, hands, feet, cuticles, driest of skins. ⁣⁣ ♡ Gives the face a luminous natural glow while hydrating deep down under the surface. ⁣⁣ ♡ Thick, balm like however soaks up fast ⁣⁣ ♡ No animal testing no fragrance no synthetic preservatives ⁣ *Scent is herbally and lemony *Target carries it ⁣ ⁣⁣

(NEUTROGENA) HYDRO BOOST WATER GEL
(NEUTROGENA) HYDRO BOOST WATER GEL
Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel is a gel-consistency moisturizer containing hyaluronic acid that provides ultimate hydration while also being lightweight. it's for dry and dehydrated skin, but is oil-free so it is also oily skin friendly! i bought this a few months ago because the two pack was on sale at Costco, so my mom got one to try and so did I. this stuff is AWESOME! my holy grail gel moisturizer is belif's aqua bomb, but in my opinion this is pretty similar and a more affordable dupe. it is definitely VERY hydrating, but doesn't sit on top of the skin due to it being a gel, and it's probably one of my top #3 favorite moisturizers ever. i can't do super thick moisturizers, but also my skin can get pretty dehydrated, so this works perfectly for me. i'd recommend this to anyone with dehydrated skin (oily, combo, normal or dry - any skin type!) or who loves aqua bomb like i do but doesn't want to pay that much for it. at $21.49 for 1.7oz, this is pretty affordable and definitely worth it. she's a best seller for a reason, 5/5 stars

PETER THOMAS ROTH - Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream This mini came in a set that I purchased awhile back. I like how quickly my skin absorbs this and how light it feels. You only need a liiittle bit and it’s enough to spread all over your face. It dries fast and leaves a matte finish which is good for summer especially for oily/combo skin! ⁣ This retails for CA$68 for 48ml...I know, right 😳 There are definitely alot more cheaper moisturizers out there that work similarly so tbh I’d rather save my money! ⁣⁣ Key Ingredients:⁣⁣ - Three molecular sizes of hyaluronic acid (restores skin to make it more hydrated, supple and smooth)⁣⁣ - Ceramides (strengthens skin’s barrier and locks in moisture)⁣⁣ - ProHyal+ (improves hydration for healthier-looking skin)⁣⁣ - Elderberry (antioxidant that soothes skin and fights aging)
