IS CLEAN BEAUTY WORTH IT?

avatar
_skintobeauty
for someone with oily, acne prone & sensitive skin, finding products that work is a tough game because the skin is so unpredictable. Clean beauty has been all the rage and I didn’t even realize how many products I have in my skincare stash that is considered “clean beauty” (Sephora standard) To me, clean beauty is not so important based on ingredients but if it’s sustainable for the environment and normally I don’t pay attention if I’m being honest but I truly need to be more of a conscious consumer now👍🏽😛 I think refillable packaging or even products that are biodegradable based on the package is a blessing. I really appreciate the glass packaging from herbivore products and same with farmacy ☺️ I also enjoy the fact that SF has a recycling program so after finishing their products, you can send back the packaging and they will properly recycle each part and send you a free mini jet lag mask 💕 I think a down from clean beauty is the idea of synthetic fragrance! Even though they may not have the synthetic versions, fragrance of any sort is highly irritating to us sensitive skin people and many people and to me, clean beauty should be keeping parabens as this a properly studied ingredients that allows the products to have a longer shelf life. Since removing parabens, a lot of people have issues where their products expire before being able to use the entire product. That’s not only a waste of someone’s money but a waste of the product as well🤦🏽‍♀️ and “clean” beauty is not cheap💸💸 so that’s a big loss a lot of times However the products in the picture are some favourites in my collection. My skin really doesn’t enjoy every product featured however I don’t over use ANY of these due to fragrance but they are really helpful for my oily and acne prone skin☺️🤗 OLE HENRIKSEN - Truth Juice Daily Cleanser
deep cleans my skin, has a gel line texture and has a beautiful orange scent. The PHAs in this really cleans out the skin well but gently and I really love this on any days I wear make to REALLY get the deep clean OLE HENRIKSEN - Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner

another amazing mask to give your skin the SOFTEST and smoothest look ever. FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum
amazing powerful chemical exfoliant, highly recommend!! + glass packaging HERBIVORE - Blue Tansy Mask
works well, weird smell but gentle resurfacing mask SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask

10 mins trick to save your tired face!
My work is getting hard these days…So, I’m staying up late to handle the trouble. Severe dark circles, dullness, pores and obvious fine lines on the face show the exhaustion I’m experiencing. Even my boyfriend has felt my tiredness through my pale face. However, I have my secret weapon, to deal with this terrible situation. Here I want to share it with you. It’sfresh - Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask What’s it? It’s an instant rescue mask with cloud-like whipped texture, which could leave skin super-smooth, dewy and hydrated in 10mins. It’s an antioxidant treatment, which contains the black tea complex, to inhibit damaging free radicals and helps to improve skin elasticity. My using experience I love this rescue mask, for its instant effect. After melting the mask onto my skin, it would give me a cooling sensation. I usually leave it on for 5-10 mins and rinse, after which my skin is softened and left silky and velvety. My skin is smoothed rapidly and obviously. You can see the instant glow it gives to my skin. It has nice fragrance. I can’t stop touching my face after use. If be used regularly for 3 times a week, you will see the obvious improvement of skin, including less dullness and fine lines and more elasticity. Do I recommend? This mask cost $92 for 100 mL, which is a little expensive. I only use it as rescue mask considering the price. So, I rate it 4 stars. If you’re worried about your tired face, you could give it a try through the 30 mL mini size.

Minis that I loved 💘
Happy Mini Monday 👌🏾 These are some products that I actually loved and bought bigger sizes of: SOL de Janeiro - Brazilian Bum Bum Cream . Smells heavenly and leaves my skin so soft. This is costly, but its so worth it. HERBIVORE - Blue Tansy Mask . I’ve never finished a mini so fast. My skin felt so soft and clear after every use. I used this the recommended every other day and now that I have my new one I can use it every week. Nature Lab. - Shine Clarifying Scalp Scrub Yes any texture can use a scalp scrub and I loved this one. I used it as a patch test on the middle (where my hair is most congested) and i can’t wait for my bigger size for my next wash day! @cosrx : snail mucinCOSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence . I still have the bigger size of this baby but Ulta sent me a sample size which I still love. NEOGENLAB - Real Rerment Micro Essence This baby one plenty of awards last year and I can see why. I actually use this one in the morning and the snail mucin essence at night. It’s way lighter and since I don’t use harsh ingredients I don’t need the buffer effect that I need at night. Have you tried any of these minis?

Is Farmacy Really Farm Fresh?? 🌾
Me: dry-combo, currently acne prone, sensitive or very sensitive For my first dive into Farmacy products, I purchased the FARMACY - Farmer's Market Kit so that I could try a variety of their bestsellers. Overall, a good tester kit for your money with adequately sized samples! (Much bigger than the Glow Recipe sample sizes.) From favorite to least favorite: FARMACY - Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm This was my first ever cleansing balm and I fell in love 😍 Your skin feels so smooth and moisturized afterwards. As a dry skin person I often used this as a single cleanse and didn’t notice any breakouts. I knocked off a star because it contains fragrance.... but actually I LOVE the smell... I just worry about my sensitive skin. The next balm I’m trying out is the GOOD MOLECULES - Instant Cleansing Balm FARMACY - Daily Greens Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer with Moringa and Papaya This was a nice lightweight moisturizer. I didn’t like the smell quite as much as the balm but it was fine. It did leave a bit of a shiny sticky residue for me but that went away when i added oil on top. Overall, not enough moisture for my skin right now, but I could see myself loving it in the summer! The next lightweight moisturizer I am trying is the CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask I wanted to love this one, and about half the time I loved it, but about half the time I HATED it. When it was good, it made my skin feel so smooth, hydrated, and brightened. When it was bad, it BURNED my skin, horribly at times. I guess it depends on how my skin barrier is doing? Probably not a repurchase since it was so unpredictable on my sensitive skin. I love honey and would love to hear thoughts on other honey masks to try! FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry My least favorite of the group, this one was just too sticky for me. I also didnt like the smell... it was almost sour smelling? Idk, just not for me. I’m now trying the Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serumfor my next vitamin C product. I also now purchased FARMACY - Cheer Up Brightening Vitamin C Eye Cream with Acerola Cherry and it is too soon for a full review but right now I am liking it a lot! It is not sticky, and does not have the funny smell of the serum. What do you guys think?? What Farmacy products should I try next? I’m eyeing the FARMACY - Honey Drop Lightweight Moisturizeror the FARMACY - Honey Halo Ultra-hydrating Ceramide Moisturizerand the FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serumand maybe the FARMACY - Whipped Greens: Oil-Free Foaming Cleanser With Moringa and Papaya!! Let me know what you think!

My experiences with Farmacy
I’d like to talk about two recent additions to my skin care routine. These are both good clean products and I recommend them, but I don’t plan to repurchase. First, I’ve tried FARMACY - BEE CLEAN It was recommended to me by a sales person at Sephora. This cleanser is great, but I think it’s a little too stripping for my dry blemish prone skin. I’ve been trying to overcompensate with other hydrating products, but my skin has felt a little rough. I think this is a great cleanser for combination skin or oily skin, but if it’s on the dry side, find something else. To try and bring some much-needed hydration into my skin, I’ve also been trying the FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask I think it’s pretty pricey for what you get, and I just didn’t get the skin softening effects I was hoping for. It’s not the miracle product I was hoping for, but it is a nice warming treatment and again, I’d recommend it for combination skin or oily skin. I did discover a new serum that’s been giving oh skin more glow and hydration. I will post about it next time. Thanks for reading!

Honey Honey 🍯
Want to wake up glowing and ready to show off your fresh face? Then look no further than FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum This product is a resurfacing night serum with glycolic acid , AHA’s, and BHA’s. This 3 in 1 product provides the following benefits: “Refines pores. BHA from willow bark, a natural source of salicylic acid, helps visibly diminish pore size. Gently exfoliates. Flower acids from hibiscus extract help exfoliate and clarify skin. Perfect for all skin types. Hyaluronic acid, along with our proprietary honey blend, deliver intense yet gentle hydration to ensure skin is never dry or over-stripped. I use this no more than every other night. I have a plethora of serums, so I like to rotate them. And I don’t like to use an exfoliant everyday, even if it is a gentle one like this. Make sure to be generous with your moisturizer following this, and maybe opt for one that’s more hydrating. I love my GLOW RECIPE - Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream however, I am pressed on Farmacy’s honey line, so I think I will be purchasing FARMACY - Honey Halo Ultra-hydrating Ceramide Moisturizerfor night time use. This picture is no makeup, no filter, just a natural radiance thanks to this HG serum. ✨🍯 🤩🌙

Jet lag mask for the jetless ✈️
I got this full sized product from my favorite subscription beauty box, Boxycharm. From first impressions, the packaging is absolutely elegant! I felt so fancy😂 I use this in the morning as part of my wake up routine, and I absolutely love it! It goes on smoothly, and it gives the skin a slight tingling sensation, which I love. It’s great for dry skin, and leaves my face looking refreshed and awake- ready to tackle mommin’ my 4 wild sons. It’s a pretty pricey product, so I’m conserving, but I will definitely repurchaseSUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask

How many masks are too many...?
I used to love masking! I’d do at least 1 to 2 a week. Now I’ve gotten lazy and just don’t do them and I have so many I need to start using before they expire! For me, I feel having an exfoliating mask and a hydrating mask is all you need. Unless your using the product consistently you’re not going to see changes. Masks are great for plumping up the skin, adding hydration and even a soft glow. But of all the masks I’ve used I’ve never found long term effects from them (except exfoliating). One way I like to use them is right before a big night (or day) out. To give my skin that added boost. Some that are great for doing so are: FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask (use as a 10 min mask) SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Ginger & Turmeric Vitamin C Jelly Mask And many others that help brighten and hydrate! I will also not go without my exfoliating masks which I do once a week. Some faves are: PAULA'S CHOICE - 25% AHA + 2% BHA Exfoliant Peel YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution HERBIVORE - Prism 20% AHA + 5% BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial And a few others I have that I liked to use; BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Tea Tree Detox Mask ELEMIS - Superfood Vital Veggie Mask bliss - Mighty Marshmallow Mask Unfortunately as I said, I just don’t mask as often as I used to. And I feel it isn’t necessary. If you like to then I suggest you get yourself an exfoliating and moisturizing/hydrating mask and you should be good to go. Treatments are where you want to really zone in and specialize your finances for. Is it Friday yet? Ugh! I’ve been down all week with a neck I cannot turn - ouchie! And a migraine on top of that! I’m ready to knock my dogs out cause they are wanting out every half hour (it’s nice here ⛅️) Much ❤️ my skinnies 🍒

Reflecting on 2020
2020 is coming to a close. I think we are all very hopeful for a better 2021. 2020 has been challenging year. But, as hard as it has been for me having a newborn & a toddler at home during two lockdowns now (Ontario is officially locked down today again), it has also given me LOTS of time with my kids, a HUGE appreciation for stay at home moms, and appreciating all the things I took for granted like seeing friends & family at Christmas. Here’s my @cherie2020 Top 5 1. Product My favourite has been SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes Glycolic Acid Treatment I received it in a sample bag from Sephora and was blown away by the results. It’s a 7 % lactic acid treatment in a milky serum consistency. It also contains licorice root extract. You really can notice it smooth & brighten your skin in 3 minutes! I haven’t bought the full size yet. It retails for $112 CAD for 1oz. But when my sample runs out I think this one is worth the money! (The sample is .25oz and I’ve been using it once a week for about 6 weeks and I might have one use left) 2. Trend Does Vitamin C count as a trend? I only started my skincare journey 6 months ago. I didn’t really know anything about skincare ingredients. Now I’ve bought two Vitamin C serums, an eye cream, and face wash! Vitamin C is powerful antioxidant that helps give you brighter, tighter, and overall more radiant looking skin. I definitely have noticed a difference since starting use to Vitamin C serums! VERSED - STROKE OF BRILLIANCE Brightening Serum SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum(haven’t started using) OLE HENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crème OLE HENRIKSEN - Truth Juice Daily Cleanser 3. Best Look My best book would have to be my everyday 5 minute natural make-up look (see earlier post). Before I started my skincare journey in the summer, I was maybe washing my face in the shower and putting on lotion. Definitely no make-up. I looked tired and dull. Now I take care of my skin, so even without make-up I look brighter and I also take 5 minutes to put on a little make-up, even if it is just to walk the kids to the park and it makes me feel a lot better about my appearance. CLINIQUE - Moisture Surge Sheertint Hydrator Broad Spectrum SPF 25 SEPHORA COLLECTION - Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer Milk MAKEUP - Lip + Cheek CLINIQUE - High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara CLINIQUE - Just Browsing Brush-on Styling Mousse 4. Favourite Creator on Cherie I might be biased because I won a great giveaway from her, but I really love following @JadesJourney I really enjoy her intersection between skincare and wellness. Check her out! 5. Something I learned The biggest thing I learned this year is not only can I find the time everyday to take care of my skin but that I look forward to it! Happy New Year!

DONT be afraid to layer the right products and DONT be afraid of oils! Ever heard the phrase “fight oil with oil?” Well its the same with oily skin. If you never feed your skin oils, or even strip your skin of its natural oils, your skin will think it is dehydrated and will overproduce oil as a response. The key is balance. Fight oil with oil, but also be sure your skin is hydrated. Do not deprive your skin of hydration because your skin will find a way to produce it. I use my Emerald Oil after a strong exfoliating mask, and my Lapis oil when I breaking out alot. I use my lavender sleeping mask a few times a week to get that boost of hydration and i use a hydrating toner everyday to be sure my moisture barrier is in check. All this to prevent over producing oils and therefore preventing acne 👌🏼

Thank you to these quarantimes for giving me the opportunity to focus more on my skincare and really learn what my skin needs. Coronavirus really brought acne and other blemishes on my skin so I decided that quarantimes was the best time to experiment and figure out what works for my skin! I started using THE inkey LIST - Alpha Arbutin and THE inkey LIST - Tranexamic Acid Hyperpigmentation Treatment on my skin to help with a few acne scars and dark spots. I added on the OLE HENRIKSEN - Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner after a week to really hone in on those areas. I decided to try the FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serumafter reading several recommendations from people. I now switch between that and the BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serumand found that both have really helped my skin clear up. These products along with my PETER THOMAS ROTH - Water Drench Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer and innisfree - Tangerine Brightening & Pore-Refining Sleeping Mask(used once a week) are the winning combo for my skin. I’m also sensitive to scents and have found that none of these products have scents that irritate me or my skin. Another win! Ya girl’s skin is happy and calm and glowing thanks to these heroines!

Exfoliating 101
Exfoliating 101
What's exfoliating? Why should you do it? How should you do it? If these are questions you have you're in the right place! Exfoliating is removing the top level of skin cells. It can be done physically or chemically, and will brighten the skin, smooth texture and can help to treat acne and wrinkles. For my combination, oily skin I like to use both physical and chemical exfoliants. I use chemical exfoliants daily in the form of exfoliating toners, and use a physical exfoliant once a week to give my skin a reset. Exfoliating helps me to address breakouts and hyperpigmentation! By speeding up the cell renewal rate I'm able to lighten dark spots faster. Exfoliating is important, but for those with sensitive skin it can quickly lead to a compromised skin barrier! My skin can tolerate daily, gentle exfoliating but not all skin will react the same! If you have more sensitive skin an enzyme exfoliant will be a bit gentler than an acid bases one! Here are some of my favorites: Physical YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial iS Clinical Tri-Active Exfoliating Mask Chemical bejbiskin - Light Liquid Exfoliant BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE - Lotion P50 Enzyme KOSMETIC IMMUNITY - Enzyme Cleansing Powder URBAN SKIN Rx - Even Tone Smooth & Glow Enzyme Mask

Rosen Skincare Faded Max Routine
Rosen Skincare Faded Max Routine
✨Rosen Skincare Faded Max Routine✨ I’ve been seeing Rosen Skincare products everywhere on my feed recently, so I was excitedto try their faded max routine which was curated to help those dealing with breakouts and hyperpigmentation. ▶️ ROSEN SKINCARE - Super Smoothie Cleanser - slightly gritty and pasty gel cleanser with strawberry powder, lemon powder, and raspberry powder to gently exfoliate and brighten the skin. I love this cleanser. It has such a delicious sweet fruit scent and it leaves my skin hydrated and not stripped post cleanse. ▶️ ROSEN SKINCARE - Tropics Toner - watery toner that contains kojic acid, pineapple, and sodium hyaluronate to hydrate and brighten dull skin. One of my favorites from the set as it instantly absorbs and hydrates my skin. After using it twice daily for a couple weeks, I noticed my skin’s complexion looking brighter and more vibrant. ▶️ ROSEN SKINCARE - Bright Citrus Serum - brightening treatment serum containing 20% vitamin c to revitalize dull skin and fade dark spots. I really liked this serum as it absorbs almost immediately. It tingles upon application and leaves a bit of a sticky finish but that disappears once you layer something over it. ▶️ ROSEN SKINCARE - Tropics Moisturizer - thick paste like moisturizer formulated with kojic acid, jojoba oil, mango butter, pineapple, and sodium hyaluronate to help fade dark spots and hydrate the skin. I didn’t like this moisturizer as the texture was a bit gritty and it was to heavy for daytime use. I ended up just using it in the evenings but my skin didn’t really look much brighter. ▶️ ROSEN SKINCARE - Rose Water Face Dew - bi-phase mist with rose water and rose hip seed oil to hydrate and brighten the skin. I quite liked this mist as it was refreshing and hydrating. I replaced this as my daytime moisturizer some days since it does leave a bit of an oily finish. ▶️ ROSEN SKINCARE - Charcoal Mask - bentonite based clay mask with charcoal and tea tree oil to unclog pores, absorb excess sebum, and reduce the size of acne. I didn’t really like this mask much since it was difficult to spread and remove. It also left my skin dry, and I didn’t see any major difference after the masking session. ▶️ ROSEN SKINCARE - Enzyme Scrub - physical exfoliant made up of walnut shell powder, pumpkin powder, lemon powder, lemon oil, jojoba seed powder, and frankincense to remove dead skin cells. This was a gentle physical exfoliant that wasn’t to abrasive on the skin. It left my skin feeling soft afterwards but I don’t really care for physical exfoliants that much anymore. ▶️ ROSEN SKINCARE - Break-Out - blemish spot treatment that uses zinc oxide, apple cider vinegar, and peppermint oil to fade bumps overnight. This was a decent spot treatment that helped with acne breakouts. Smells like toothpaste. It doesn’t exactly work overnight but give it a couple days and your blemishes will reduce in size. Overall, there were hits and miss for me with the set but my complexion has gotten brighter and more even toned with consistent use of the fade routine. My favorite products out of the set are the smoothie cleanser, tropics toner, and bright citrus serum. Have you tried Rosen skincare? If you have, what are your favorites from them?
