Types of Acne
As more and more people join Cherie, I am seeing an influx of posts for people asking for help in regards to their acne and breakouts. I decided to create an informative post for those who are just starting out about the different types of acne. The first umbrella category for acne is the non-inflammatory branch. Under this branch include whiteheads and blackheads. The second umbrella category for acne is the inflammatory branch. Under this branch you have pimples, papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. Non-inflammatory: Blackheads -Otherwise known as open comedones -Occurs when a pore is clogged by a combination of sebum and dead skin cells. The top of the pore stays open despite the rest of it being clogged -The clogged pore gets oxidized by air and appears black -Treatment options are retinoids, salicylic acid, BHAs, clay masks, and charcoal masks Whiteheads -Otherwise known as closed comedones -Also form when a pore is clogged by a contamination of sebum. The top of the pore closes and looks like a small bump protruding from the skin -Whiteheads are more difficult to treat since the pore is closed. -Treatment options are retinols, salicylic acid, BHAs, and adapalene Inflammatory: Pimples -Red and swollen bumps on the skin -Caused by a buildup of sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria -Treatment options are benzoyl-peroxide, retinols, salicylic acid, azelaic acid, sulfur, and many more Papule -Small spots on the skin that are swollen and inflamed. No puss is visible from the surface of the skin. Papules mainly occur when the walls surrounding your pores break down from severe inflammation. -The papule is hard, clogged, and tender to the touch. The skin around the papule is usually pink -Treatment options are retinols, salicylic acid, and antibiotics Pustules -Like papules, pustules also occur form the walls surrounding your pores break down from severe inflammation. The only difference between a pustule and a papule is that a pustule is filled with puss whereas a papule is not. -When a pustule emerges from the skin, it is usually red in color and has a white or yellow top -Treatment options are antibiotics, salicylic acid, sulfur, benzoyl-peroxide, and clay masks Nodules -Nodules occur when clogged, swollen pores experience further irritation and grow larger. Nodules are deep under the skin. -Nodules usually cannot be treated with over the counter products. It is best to see a dermatologist for the best treatment plan for you. Cysts -Cysts are caused by a pore being clogged with bacteria, sebum, and dead skin cells. Cysts occur deeper in the skin than nodules. Cysts will present with or without a yellow or white head and be very painful. -Treatments options are antibiotics from a dermatologist
My Current Favorite Serums
▶️ BE PLAIN - Cicaful Ampoule - a concentrated soothing serum containing 84% centella asiatica extract. I really like how quickly this soothes any skin irritations I have. It also adequately hydrates the skin as well without being sticky. Also it’s fragrance free. ▶️ NATURIUM - Vitamin C Complex Serum - a brightening treatment serum formulated with a vitamin c complex that’s made up of stabilized and encapsulated l-ascorbic acid, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, and bioactive fruit blend. I just started using and I love the lightweight gel texture. I’ll have to continue using to see any results though. ▶️ TIA'M - Vita B3 Source - currently my most favorite niacinamide based serum. It contains 10% niacinamide and 2% arbutin to correct pigmentation, regulate sebum production, and hydrate the skin. This isn’t a fast acting product but I see a noticeable difference in my skin tone over time. It helps to fade my dark spots very effectively. ▶️ NEOGENLAB - Real Ferment Micro Serum - a gel cream like serum containing 61% fermented ingredients to help with skin elasticity and provide antioxidant benefits. I love how this makes my skin so soft and smooth. It also brings a subtle glow to my skin as well thanks to the rice ferment filtrate in the formula. ▶️ dear, klairs - Fundamental Watery Oil Drop - my go to hydrating serum so far this summer. It gives me the benefits of using a facial oil without the heaviness. It’s water based and contains green tea, ceramides, peptides, rice, kelp, and sodium hyaluronate to hydrate and nourish the skin. This leaves you looking glowy af! #CherieCreator

My Favourite Hydration/Moisture Products
Hydration and moisture are so, so important! I had the most oily skin for years and it never occurred to me to use a cream- so when I found my oil production subsiding a bit after introducing a hydration serum and moisturizer, I was amazed. Excess oil production can be the skin trying to moisturize itself via sebum. Here are my rec’s: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster contains such a variety of humectants that I consider it a hydrating serum. Hydrating while also balancing oil production, this is amazing for every skin type. stratia - Liquid Gold is packed with emollients and some humectants, making it a good serum for dry skin and the perfect moisturizer for oily skin. DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum helps to reduce oil production but primarily gives skin the hydration it craves. This is a good serum for all skin types but lacks the emollients to be a moisturizer. DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask is the perfect cream to use after an acid if your skin is sensitive. It’d be a great moisturizer (thanks to squalane) for oily skin and is a nice add-on for dry skin. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream worked for my skin when I was an oil slick and it saves my flaky face when my eczema goes Sahara desert. This fluffy moisturizer is perfect for all skin types, though dry skin in the winter may need to add an oil. The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a hydrating serum that is just what dehydrated and/or oily skin needs- however I’d caution users that hyaluronic acid can be drying if you live in an arid environment. It also doesn’t have the most elegant texture, so give it an extra minute to soak in! PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizer moisturizes without shine, managing to be rich yet soaking in very quickly. It may be a bit too light for dry skin in the PM but oily/combo skin will love it. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum If you have sensitive, combination, and/or dry skin, buy this. It contains emollients, humectants, and is perfect for soothing skin. Oily skin will also likely enjoy this serum for its surprising lightness, but in my experience it is too light to be used as a moisturizer.

reasons why you are breaking out on your face...
Acne is a skin condition that usually comes around once you hit puberty, and you shouldn’t be ashamed of that. Acne is normal and everyone is eventually going to experience it. ***** The chart above indicates what each part of the face means when you break out in that area. Forehead: the reason why you are breaking out on your forehead is because of stress, poor diet, irregular sleep, liver issues and digestive problems. Temples and eyebrows: usually people breakout in this area because of blood circulation problems, alcohol and processed foods such as fast food as well. Nose: people break out on the nose because of poor blood circulation, poor diet, constipation bloating and indigestion. Mouth and under nose: this can be because of a certain toothpaste that you may be sensitive to, constipation or spicy/fried foods. Chin: people break out on the chin because of hormonal problems, kidney problems and gynaecological issues. Cheeks: this can be because of stress, lung issues, kidney problems, bacteria from cellphones and stomach problems. Ears: not a lot of people break out in this area but if you do, it’s because of your kidney. that’s all you need to know, i hope this helps and sorry if it doesn’t make sense, my english isn’t very good 😅. stay safe and keep cleansing!
If you are dealing with acne scarring, maybe this post will help! Acne scars are formed when a breakout penetrates the skin deeply and damages the tissues beneath it. During the healing process, the body produces collagen—a substance that gives the skin support. If the body produces too little or too much collagen, you will see a scar. Who is at risk for acne scarring? When a person Has inflammatory (swollen, reddish, and painful) acne. These often include acne cysts and nodules. This type of acne tends to penetrate deep into the skin, which damages the skin. Delays or does not treat inflammatory acne The longer a person has inflammatory acne, the greater the risk of scarring. Picks, squeezes, or pops acne This increases inflammation, which increases the risk of scarring. Has a blood relative who developed acne scars Genes play a large role. Products that are recommended by dermatologists: SKINCEUTICALS - C E Ferulic With 15% L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Serum SHANI DARDEN SKIN CARE - Retinol Reform Murad - Invisiscar Resurfacing Treatment OLE HENRIKSEN - Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner Dr Dennis Gross - Skincare Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Formula 30 Applications If you have tried over the counter products and still aren’t seeing any results, your best bet is to see a good dermatologist. They use the following treatments: Laser skin resurfacing Chemical peeling Dermabrasion Microdermabrasion (differs from kits bought for at-home use) Resurfacing works well for treating acne scars that are nearly flat (not too deep). Even dermabrasion, which removes the top layers of skin and some of the middle layers, cannot effectively treat deep acne scars. For deeper scarring, they sometimes use fillers. A dermatologist may fill acne scars with collagen, the patient’s own fat, or another substance. Many fillers give temporary results, which last between 6 and 18 months. Some fillers are permanent. Collagen -induction therapy, skin tightening, electrodesication, and even scar surgery are also used. The takeaway is don’t think that you don’t have options! Definitely give the products I listed a good try. It can take months and months to really start seeing results so you definitely need to be patient. If those do not work for you, your dermatologist has a ton of options ❤️ Remember that no matter your skin, you are beautiful!!!
