The Ordinary: Does it Actually Work?

The Ordinary products all over the internet and people seem to really love their products ( and how affordable they are! ) This brand has helped tons of people so I wanted to try it out for myself. 😊 UPDATE: I’ve been using these for 2 weeks and my skin looks SO MUCH healthier and glowy!🙌 I have combination, sensitive, acne prone skin with hyperpigmentation and these are the products that I chose: The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
This is a glycolic acid toner meaning that it is a chemical exfoliant and in my opinion it’s better than a physical exfoliant because you’re not physically scrubbing away at your skin and with that being said, a slight stinging sensation is normal. This exfoliates, brightens, and promotes even tone and texture. You can use it Am + Pm just as long as you wear spf in the daytime. Best part is it’s only $8.70 CAD!🌸 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
This is a holy grail product for acne. It is a water based serum that greatly improves blemishes, enlarged pores, and oily skin. You can apply this Am + Pm without spf and I can’t wait to see how my skin gets better thanks to this serum! It’s only $5.90 CAD which is amazing for a product this effective!✨ (note: when applying, it does look a bit soapy because it is niacinamide but it blends out nicely) (Do not mix with vitamin C!!) The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%
Aka vitamin C.. This has tons of benefits for your skin. It helps with hyperpigmentation, dark spots, uneven tone, signs of age, and it is an antioxidant. It’s an oil based serum meaning it should be applied after water based products and before your moisturizer. You can apply Am + Pm ( with spf ) and remember that vitamin C shouldn’t be mixed with Niacinamide! 🦋 The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
Alpha Arbutin is a brightening serum, it fades hyperpigmentation and dark spots. It’s water based and can be used Am + Pm ( with spf ) and it’s only $8.90 CAD💐 The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
This is a super hydrating moisturizer! It has a bit of a thicker, creamy texture to it and my initial thoughts were that it was going to feel too heavy and greasy on my face but once it was all blended in, it felt pretty good! It’s not too shiny on the more oily areas of my face and it keeps the dry areas nice and hydrated. It’l definitely seal in all the goodness underneath:)💖 UPDATE:The moisturizer as I mentioned is thicker than the ones I typically go for and I noticed that when I apply it and go to bed shortly after, my face sticks to my silk pillow case so it definitely takes a bit to sink into your skin hehe ** Please do your research before purchasing from The Ordinary because their products are at higher concentrations of specific ingredients. Some need to be worn with spf or layered differently and some can’t be mixed with others.**😘

The ordinary
These are the ordinary products I use in my routine so far..... The Ordinary - Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% I sometimes use this as extra antioxidant protection after my morning routine. I don’t notice that much of a difference with my skin but it can’t hurt and I like the texture and feel it leaves on my skin. The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil I use this every night after my night cream for extra moisture and to help with acne scarring. I’ve heard it helps so much with scarring. I’m also adding The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%to my routine soon to help with scarring and hyperpigmentation as well. I love the rosehip oil for extra moisture and my skin feels so smooth in the morning. The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution I use this twice a week and I’ve been faithfully using it for 3 months and I’m just now seeing a difference. I almost gave up but everyone has sworn by this so I thought it couldn’t hurt to stick with it. It tingles and I used to leave it on for the full 10 min and now with the extra acne products I’m using my skin is a little more sensitive so I leave it on for 5-6 minutes. Definitely wake up with baby smooth skin the next morning. I’m hoping to see results with my old acne scars too.

THE ORDINARY HAUL UPDATE
the products I have purchased have been amazing, I'm absolutely in love my morning routine now is cleanse with squalaneThe Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser apply TO The Ordinary - Amino Acids + B5 then moisturize with CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream and what I forgot to put in my first post, I finish off with sun bum - Face Lotion SPF 50 before my makeup evening, cleanse again, use the The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution(please don't use if you have sensitive skin) my skin is used to retinoids from previous attempts at fixing my skin, and this product leaves me feeling clean, but sensitive skin can have a very different reaction then I mix together The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5withThe Ordinary - 100% Niacinamide Powder it comes with a little scoop and I use the recommended 1/4 scoop mixed with the hyaluronic acid. then I use the same moisturizer Now let's talk about my thoughts! I love the cleanser, it leaves me smooth, not dry, not right, but I feel super clean like the days dirt is just gone which is fantastic. the purge process has definitely started, but I just use acne patches and the purge so far isn't that bad. mixing the niacinamide with hyaluronic has been fantastic for me! I never liked the niacinamide with zinc, the zinc irritated my skin and I would get these pustules along my jaw bone which haven't made an appearance since I switched, so it was definitely the zinc. the amino acid serum, this one I'm conflicted. it has helped in preventing breakouts while wearing makeup, but it's so watery I would've preferred if it came in a spray bottle for easier application. not sure if I'd repurchase the hyaluronic could probably do what it's been doing to my skin. and the toner! arguably the most controversial of these products. this has helped brighten my skin so far, and my pores look so much smaller! that's probably the hydrating products I've been using, but I also haven't gotten blackheads clogging said pores either so I think it's a bit of both! I'm curious to see how effective this routine will be during my more hormonal days, I will continue to update!

The Ordinary products for acne prone skin✨
Th Ordinary has been one of my favorite brands for some time now. I love trying new products from them knowing it won’t break the bank. I previously had a post about a few of their serums but I’ve tried to branch out since. Here’s my experience with a few new TO products as well as some of my all time favorites: The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution - such a versatile product! I’ve used it for my underarms as deodorant, sometimes my feet to get rid of dead skin cells, my butt for buttne and lastly, on my face as a gentle exfoliator! I love it for all of these uses and at under $9 for 8fl oz I think it’s an amazing deal! The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA - This moisturizer is okay. It’s too thick for my oily skin and leaves a matte finish, which isn’t something I particularly like. When my skin gets too dry I love using it because it instantly moisturizes but it’s more of a spot moisturizer for me than an all face one. The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution - absolute favorite! I’m on to my second bottle now. It definitely burns or stings sometimes no matter how many times you’ve used it but I’m okay with it since it does such a great job at exfoliating. I only keep it for up to 10 min and use it 1-2 times a week, mostly once now though since I don’t want to further dry my face. The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane - this product did absolutely nothing for my face. I used it for a couple of months and my skin would refuse to absorb it, so it stayed pretty oily which I hated. I also saw no benefits to my under eye fine lines. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - this is my third bottle of this serum and this time I opted for the 60ml one as opposed to the 30ml. I use it daily and once I got to figure out the exact amount my face needs, it’s been working wonders. My face feels brighter and smoother which is why I’ve continued repurchasing. The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% - purchased this product to help with hyperpigmentation and I am still to see any major differences. My skin feels better overall but I’m not sure whether it’s solely because of this product. It’s a non oily cream which is a plus for me, I’ll continue to use it until it’s done but not sure whether I’ll repurchase.

Poor absorption
I wanted to love all of my Ordinary products because they’re so well regarded by many of you, however, this one is a bust. The lotion leaves a residue after it’s dried, that comes off in unsightly boogers if you scratch or rub the skin. This has remained true regardless of where it is applied or the thickness of the application. I won’t be buying this one again. The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

The Ordinary has changed my routine 😊
The Ordinary has changed my routine 😊
Ive always has decent skin but would get random breakouts. I also started breaking out when stressed and was having some dullness and dehydration! To jump in : The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution I really like this toning solution! It doesn’t dry me out and is actually quite moisturizing. It’s great if you experience irritation because the aloe vera in it really provides soothing properties for irritated skin. It helps with gentle exfoliation when I use it at night and I get the exfoliating cotton pads from Target and that helps add some extra penetration to my skin! My face has visibly gotten a more even texture. The only reason it has 4 instead of 5 stars is because you can only use it at night because it doesn’t react well to sun exposure. The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution I am in love with this peel! It visibly improves blemishes and has lightened my dark marks a bit! I love that it’s something I can do at home and still get my deep exfoliation I need. My skin feels and looks radiant. I will say start only using this once a week as it can sting a bit. After you feel you have adjusted you can up it to two times a week depending on how you need it! I’ve currently upgraded to two times a week. The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 If you suffer from any sort of dryness this is for you! I’m combination skin but can get dry around my cheek area and just wanted overall more moisture. This is a God send. From the first day I used it my skin was so hydrated. Because Hyaluronic Acid absorbs so much in water this is best used on wet/damp skin. I use it after cleansing AM and PM. I put my moisturizer on directly after so that way more moisture is being sucked in to my skin. Definitely a game changer. The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Squalane I wanted to love this product but I really just like it. For my skin it seems to make me feel too greasy. I use it as my step before my moisturizer and it was just ok. I hate to feel oily and this can make my skin feel that way if I use any more than one drop. Now I mix one drop maybe two in my moisturizer at night. It’s less overwhelming for my skin that way. Once I started using it that way it gave an extra boost of hydration to my nightly routine. All in All has really helped my skin! SIDE NOTE: All of these products are vegan and cruelty free!

Fave or meh? The Ordinary
Fave or meh? The Ordinary
The Ordinary is a brand that offers products with active ingredients, in simple packaging and at low prices. If you like skincare, you probably already know this brand. Most of its formulas are simple and offer only one ingredient. I have tried some of their products, here is my opinion. The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA Is one of the mildest AHAs, which helps with fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture and dullness. Its a good option for glycolic acid, since lactic acid is softer. It leaves my skin soft and its not greasy. It is a good alternative to Sunday Riley's lactic acid. The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution It is an exfoliating peel to brighten, fights acne and even out skin tone. Its color is beautiful and many people have tried it. It works very well, you see subtle results from the first use, it leaves the skin glowy and clean. If you don't have sensitive skin, you should give it a try, maybe it will become your favorite peel. The Ordinary - ''Buffet'' It contains 5 different peptides to combat the first signs of aging. Leaves skin soft and fresh. I bought this product for my husband and we both liked, it has Matrixyl 300 and argirelox. I don’t use it daily, because my skin tends to be acne-prone and this serum is a little greasy. I didn’t buy it again because I have many creams and serums to try. I think that due to its ingredients it is a very good option for mature skin, it is also an economic product. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Control excess oil, fights acne, reduces hyperpigmentation, reduces facial redness and hydrates. It definitely helps control acne breakouts. It is an excellent alternative to combine with retinol and reduce its irritating effects. The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser Gentle cleanser and makeup remover for all skin types. Has a cream texture that turns into oil when you rub it between your hands. I bought it for its low price and because it contains squalane and I don’t regret it. Leaves the skin clean, soft and fresh. I think it is a good brand, with affordable prices and good results.

The Ordinary’s Acids: Simple but Effective
The Ordinary’s Acids: Simple but Effective
Let’s talk about some of the Ordinary’s acids I’ve used! I love the Ordinary for their simple, affordable formulations that forgo the bad and hyped to instead include scientifically-backed ingredients. But sometimes simplicity can leave something to be desired. The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA Super simple, leaves a slight tacky feel but soaks in quickly otherwise. I noticed a subtle smoothing and softening of my skin over my use of this product. Best for those who don’t do well with glycolic acid. The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Solution This serum does it’s job of deep exfoliation but not very elegantly. While I did see improvement in pore size and acne frequency, the serum takes a while to soak in and left a tacky finish that caused my other products to pill. But it would be a good serum for those looking to try out BHA for acne and congested pores. The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% I noticed hyperpigmentation reduction with this cream, but I cannot stand the silicone texture. It has a strange grit to it, no matter how much I shake up the bottle. I also think my skin dislikes heavy silicones, as I experienced increased breakouts when using this, despite the wonderful brightening and calming properties it has. The matte finish is best for oily skin types and I’d recommend it for those who don’t mind silicone. The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque I love this mask! It combines salicylic acids vegetable charcoal, and Amazonian clay with squalane and glycerin to keep the mask from overly drying skin while still targeting congestion. Whenever my acne was terrible, this helped tremendously in shortening the lifespan of blemishes. I can’t recommend this enough for those that struggle with acne around hormonal flares since it’s a good spot-treatment. The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution This is my favourite The Ordinary acid for multi-day use in the week. It soaks in quickly, is slightly hydrating (moreso than the Lactic Acid + HA, oddly), doesn’t tingle or make my skin red, yet I can see over a couple weeks of use that my skin looks brighter and more even in texture. My only issue with this product that it does leave the skin slightly sticky- like your hands are after you touch something sweet. But there’s no pilling issue, so this is a great acid for those looking to lighten hyperpigmentation and smooth bumpy texture.

$6.99 VS $5.90, Affordable Niacinamide Products Competition!!!
$6.99 VS $5.90, Affordable Niacinamide Products Competition!!!
Today, let's compare two affordable niacinamide products. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%and THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum I have combo skin with enlarged pores. Niacinamide's main function is to brighten your skin, reduce dark spots and acne scars, control oil and maintain hydration, and improve enlarged pores.  Price: both serums are about 30ml, prices are also similar-The Ordianry $5.90 VS. The Inkey List $6.99 Texture:  Very similar. Both serums look like liquid glue. But they are pretty light, easy to spread out. It feels a little bit sticky but can be absorbed easily. The Ordinary's serum is more sticky than Inkey's. Ingredient:  The Ordinary includes 1% Zinc. And it is oil-free. Zinc is good for pimples and oil control.  InkeyList has 1% Hyaluronic acid. It also has Squalane. This formula ensures hydration for people with dry skin.  Effects: After using both serums, my skin looks brighter and more even. I can also see my enlarged pores getting better if I look closely into my skin.  However, I do feel differently when I am using these two products-my skin feels more comfortable and hydrated when using Inkey.  Overall, both niacinamide serums are pretty good, especially at this price level. Inkey is good for combo-dry skin, and The Ordinary works better for oily skin. But both serums have a high concentration of niacinamide. ⚠⚠⚠If you have sensitive skin, be cautious! Build up your tolerance before you use them! What’s your favorite niacinamide product? I’d love to hear 😊😊

Amazing Yet Underrated: Azelaic Acid Suspension
Amazing Yet Underrated: Azelaic Acid Suspension
Alright, let’s be honest; I feel like a majority of people that are into skincare know about the Ordinary. It is a brand that has been getting a lot of exposure lately because of its affordable prices with great quality products. Their serums (niacinamide, hyaluronic acid) are one of the most popular products from the line. Although I own and love these serums, there is a product that I came across and bought that has helped my skin tremendously over the past few months. This product is the Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%; it is defined as a “multifunctional brightening formula.” This suspension is so well rounded and can treat various skin concerns. Azelaic acid is an antioxidant that helps with dark spots, pores, and redness; and although I don’t suffer from acne, I heard that this ingredient helps a lot with the healing process of acne scarring. Lastly, it’s super lightweight and makes my skin feel very soft! Even though this product is great for all skin types, I would do a skin patch test if you have sensitive skin (considering the fact that it is a direct acid). If your skin does not react well to the suspension, it could lead to skin irritation so be careful. But aside from that, I think that the Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% can benefit anyone and it’s only about 8 dollars! I use it only at night, but it’s gentle enough to be applied twice a day daily. Just make sure to put on your sunscreen in the daytime :)

This diminished my dark spots
This diminished my dark spots
For years I had acne and I constantly picked my face so bad that it left scarring, dark spots and uneven skin tone. I've tried several different products, methods and regimens and nothing seemed to be working until I found the right regimen. I started using these products back in December and not only has it diminished my dark spots but it has made my face brighter, even and overall just healthier. I use the glow tonic after cleansing, the lactic acid , b oil then the suspension. I do however alternate with those products one day and the glowrecipe overnight mask on another day. If your having a hard time finding the right products for your issues don't get discouraged just try different methods and products until you find what's best for you, nothing happens overnight. Not only are these products great but you can't beat the unbelievably low prices.
