BASICS - Chemical vs Physical Exfoliants 🧼🧖🏼
Okay it’s time to talk about exfoliating! Chemical exfoliant has recently become more accessible and mainstream in the world of beauty, but before chemical exfoliants were seen outside of the walls of high-end salons I know we all had our favourite face scrubs 🧖🏿♀️ St. Ives, Clean & Clear, Fresh, they all had their own version of a sugar or walnut scrub.. but more and more we see products like this leaving store shelves. But why 🤔 Exfoliating your skin should be a non-negotiable in your routine! Clearing away the dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin is a crucial step to help you skin generate new cells 🆕 As you clear away the dead skin cells not only are you encouraging new cells to form, but you are also brightening, smoothing, and cleansing your skin on a cellular level. Physical exfoliants like the two shown above promise to bring amazing results, when in reality they are actually creating little micro tears in your skin 🥵 By actually making the surface of your skin bumpier and more uneven, products like this trick you into purchasing more by making your skin worse in the long run. Often physical scrubs also include ingredients that are comedogenic, contribute to fungal acne, and fragrances which cause extra irritation. Now, if you’re looking to continue to exfoliate but are not sure where to start check out my tips below: • Struggling with surface-level issues (anti-aging, acne scarring, pigmentation issues, etc.) then try out an AHA based serum a few nights a week, my current favourite is The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 5% + HA or The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution • Dealing with sub-surface issues (recurring acne and inflammation) then using a BHA serum or infused product might be the right route for you. CeraVe - SA Smoothing Cleanser is a great face wash to try) or the DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial Mask is a great once a week treatment. What is your exfoliant routine and what products bring you the best results? I am currently using DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum and DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial Mask in my nighttime routine and loving the results!
can't just stick to one regimen 😬 plz help!
Ok ppl, I've bought quite a few things to kick start a AM routine and a PM routine but it seems like I just can't stick to one or two items 😑 which is probably why I'm not seeing great results 😕 can yall help me stick to one or maybe even cancel out some things??? a little FYI: I have Dry sometimes sensitive skin (mostly dry tho). Got a couple acne scars but nothing too serious. Lots of black heads 😣 i feel because im putting too much product on my face im getting alot of black heads around my cheeks and chin. so in the AM I have a couple cleansers I like to use: TATCHA - The Rice Wash Skin-Softening Cleanser or the CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin next I put Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Hydrating Serum i like it but I want something more hydrating. I also have OLE HENRIKSEN - Truth Serum but I've heard some negative things about it so I rarely apply it in the AM, more towards the PM. so here is where I might be doing it wrong, I put on CeraVe - Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 for Body with Zinc Oxide before my moisturizer. Now I like the sunscreen, it does have that white cast but once I put moisturizer it kinda goes away. I do have the Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 which i alternate depending on what ill be doing that day. lastly, I have tons of moisturizers. I need something that will hydrate my face all day or at least all day. I have the TATCHA - The Dewy Skin Cream which i LOVE but I hate using it everyday cuz 1. it's EXPENSIVE and 2. it can be a bit too hydrating where it looks oily toward the end of the day. I like using this one more at night time. Another moisturizer I use is the OLE HENRIKSEN - C-Rush Vitamin C Gel Moisturizer also heard negative things about so I'll wear it more for the PM. I have SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream which is AMAZING! 👏👏 this gives me just the right amount of hydration and it doesn't feel heavy or tacky like the CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream which i rather use at night as well. This one doesn't give me as much hydration as I would like. oh and for toners the only thing I have is THAYERS - Rose Petal Facial Toner its ok, if anyone else has recommendations plz feel free to drop some info plz 🙏 Anywho, this is pretty much what I use for both AM and PM. I do have 2 exfoliaters the Murad - AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser and OLE HENRIKSEN - Transforming Walnut Scrub which I will alternate as well. If anyone has any recommendations or tips for ya girl PLZ feel free. Lmk if I need to add or take out some of the things I use. Can't wait to see your guy's feedback 🤗😓
Olive oil face scrub! . . . My friend purchased this for me, I was looking forward because I hadn’t heard of the brand before. . Pros: It smells so nice, it feels smooth on my skin, it’s overall one of the best facesrubs I’ve tried. I also loved that it was for all skin types, it doesn’t excludes anyone. It is also gentle on the skin Cons: It comes in a small bottle, it’s going to end eventually. 😂 I also thought it was a bit hard to apply. This is a quick little review because it’s overall a great product! Overall: It’s a nice scrub and it’s also cheap!
Should you use physical exfoliants?
There’s a lot of questions around physical exfoliants. Should we be using them on our skin or are they too harsh? In a nutshell, no. Most physical scrubs use too large exfoliants like seeds or walnut shells that are actually creating micro tears in the skin. While they might feel like they’re sloughing away dead skin, they are more likely doing more harm than good. There are, however, physical exfoliants that are gentle. The one I’ve been using from Codex uses jojoba oil beadsto exfoliate- that means they are super gentle and disperse into a moisturizing oil after! But the best option to exfoliate would have to be acid peels. AHA’s do some of the best jobs in renewing your skin gently and effectively. What’s your favorite exfoliation product?

BLUE FAVORITES// 💦Belif Eye Bomb 💦Too Cool Fore School Egg Cream Mask 💦Supergoop! Smooth and Poreless 💦Beautycounter Cleansing Balm 💦Beautycounter Mini Oils 💦Laneige Water Sleeping Mask 💦Dr.Jart+ Hydration Lover ... Beautycounter Cleansing Balm- This is a luxurious cleansing balm. The texture is smooth and melts into the face to attach and lift up any grease and grime. It can also be used as an overnight mask. It’s a powerhouse product! That being said, I’m not impressed with the price. Balm cleansers can be ‘clean’ and purchased for a lot less than $80.
Clean and Clear Lemon gel cleanser
I really like this face wash for oily skin from Clean and Clear it is a gel consistency which I like. It claims to get rid of dirt and oils which it does well without stripped my skin. After all I’ve been using it for about 5 months. It has made my skin much brighter and clearer and les oily. The product is definitely worth it i costs $5-$6 depending which store you go to but I genuinely love it. I give it 5/5 starts💛
Toner for Oily skin that Exfoliates as well!
This is a daily exfoliator that can be used on normal to dry skin. It target is that it’s used to de-flake and smooth skin’s surface for clearer skin. This toner helps to unclog pores and to minimize oil build-up. I wanted to try this product out mainly because it’s used for Men and we’ll... lol I am one, and second because I do tend to get pretty oily. Then after reading more about this product, I see that it gently exfoliates too in its liquid texture (very watery like in picture above) so it’s not harsh at all, but yet very easy to apply w my face pads. So I have enjoyed it for a few months now. I would also recommend to anyone (mainly men but women too if needed) as a nice pre-shave as it softens the body hair before removing during a good shave. It’s only $16 for 6.7 oz straight from the source (Clinique) but I’ve found you can also pick it up at other stores like Belk, and possibly for the same price and maybe even a couple dollars less. Back To Iceland, this line features products made with Iceland Moss to soothe and reduce inflammation. ▫️Peeling Cream- This was really interesting! It’s a thin lotion that you massage into your face. Dead skin/ dirt will roll away and leave your skin fresh and clean. This reminds me a lot of the org skincare spray. ▫️Cleansing Foam- A nice second cleanser. It was foamy and didn’t leave my face feeling tight. It started as a paste and then foamed up when applied to wet skin. The smell and texture remind me a lot of heimish clay ALL CLEAN white clay foam. ▫️Cleansing Water- Another new one for me. It took a bit to figure out how to fit this in my routine. I really love to double cleanse and get all the gunk off my face with a balm cleanser. I don’t feel like I need a cleansing water since the first cleanse is so effective. Any tips? The packaging is gorgeous and I cannot get enough of the olive green. BUT I’m not sure I’ve fallen in love with any of these products... none of them really stood out and blew my mind.
