The Truth About Antioxidants, Hyaluronic acid, and Salicylic Acid
As someone with very dehydrated skin on the inside but oily looking on the outside, I’ve had to deal with the effects of this type of skin for years and the way it makes me look. Dehydrated skin can look tired and fine lines and wrinkles get accentuated; you would think the fact it’s oily would counteract that, but it doesn’t. My oily skin just looks shiny and that makes everything so much worse and because I live in a hot country my skin can suffer more. I work as a makeup artist and it’s work that’s under pressure. Sometimes I’m outside in the hot sun all day; or under photographers’ lighting. This means I’m constantly hot and sweaty. My skin is expelling water from the inside of my skin to lower the outside temperature. This makes the inside dehydrated and the outside too moist. Combined with that, it’s a fact that as the temperature rises the skin produces even more oil, making me look just horrible. In desperation, I consulted a dermatologist and she advised me that to help combat these problems the only thing to do is add some active ingredients into my skincare routine, by way of products with antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and salicylic acid. To explain what this means to you and me I’ve outlined how they work like this - Antioxidants are ingredients that block off the damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are the toxins that damage the skin: so pollution and sunrays, UVA and UVB, lifestyle by-products like alcohol or cigarettes. They are often found in food and always in nature and they work by anti-aging, brightening, and evening out skin texture; leaving skin radiant and glowy. An amazing product filled with antioxidants which I really love because of its gorgeous texture and easy applications is - My Clarins Re-Boost Refreshing Hydrating Cream CLARINS - RE-BOOST Refreshing Hydrating Cream

Does silicone “suffocate” the skin? Myth busted.
It’s a very common misconception in the beauty world that silicones in skincare/make up “suffocate” the skin, clog the pores, and cause breakouts. Despite this myth silicone can actually benefit the skin a lot. What does Silicone do? Silicone, which is derived from silica, is a common ingredient that gives products slip, offers protection against moisture loss, and can help hide the appearance of skin texture/pores. Why doesn’t it clog the pores? To understand this you really need to understand the structure of silicone. It has a unique structure of large molecules with wide spaces in between. These large molecules are too big to “clog” the pores which is why they are used in a lot of “pore filling” primers. The silicone creates a silky texture that creates a protective barrier over the skin and in turn helps reduce the immediate appearance of pores and texture. They are unable to penetrate the pore lining where acne is formed. But don’t they suffocate the skin when used in skincare? Actually, no! Silicones in skincare can be extremely beneficial, especially to those with dry skin. Sometimes silicones can contribute to the base formula of a product. While the actives sink through the skin the silicone creates that protective layer on top. This insures the actives penetrate the skin and it prevents TEWL (Trans Epidermal Water Loss). Because the molecule is so large it sits over the pores but thanks to the wide spaces in between your skin is still “able to breathe”. One of my favorite silicone based products is the dr. brandt - Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer . This primer has a silky smooth texture that creates that “breatheable” barrier on your skin. It helps smooth over pore appearance and texture while giving the skin a matte finish (making it perfect for this with oily skin like myself). Never once has this cause me to break out and it feels very lightweight on the skin (like most silicones should). I feel like it does smooth over my pores and creates a better base for my make up to lay over top.
Pore No More
This Pore Refiner Primer by Dr Brandt has to be one of the first primers I’ve used ALL year long. And actually DECENTLY liked. I like that it feels creamy and not tacky upon application. I like that it lessens the appearance of my pores... especially around the nose area. It locks in my foundation well and doesn’t irritate my skin at all. I am not a huge fan of primers (yes I said it out loud) but it’s a nice addition to my makeup routine when I want to look a little EXTRA gorgeous and not want to stare at my pores around my nose. I think it would be perfect for all skin types too. dr. brandt - Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer
Effective Quick Morning Routine For A Busy Morning🥰🥰
Let’s face it. All of us hope to do that comprehensive 1-hour skincare routine every morning. All the procedures of a detailed morning skincare regimen we read about could easily add up to more than ten steps but sometimes we just want a quick routine to get us out of the door fast, with a well-prepped and flawless face all day long. Like many of you guys, my face can’t decide on just one condition. For my combination skin, half of my face feels tight and dry, especially my cheeks, while the other half (slash T-zone) is oily and prone to breakouts. A quick solid morning routine is just as crucial as a normal one when I have more time. For this quick morning routine, I try to use skincare with multi-tasking properties or apply two skincare products on my face at the same time. I also automatically lean towards products I know that will deliver high efficacy aka products that I know will do their job well. They usually boasts a higher concentration of more powerful ingredients. To be honest, I try to do a complete skincare routine but this quick routine works well when I am pressed for time in the morning when I need more time for other activities, like preparing a longer breakfast, doing a morning workout or... when I am hungover and sleep in later than usual. So, here goes. These are some things I do when I need a quick and efficient morning routine that will not shortchange my skin’s needs before the day starts. o Cleanse with cold water There’s a long-standing debate on how water temperature can affect our complexion when we wash our face. Which direction should we turn the dial to? In the mornings, I lean towards a cold wash. Some studies have shown that cold water can act as an astringent and cause skin to retract temporarily to reduce morning puffiness, especially around the under-eye area. Splashing cold water on my skin is not only refreshing, it also wakes me up more quickly. Still, I like to switch to lukewarm to warm water in the evening as I believe that warm water reacts with the cleanser more effectively to remove enough dirt and to balance the natural skin oils appropriately. o Massage a rich moisturizer that is lightweight at the same time If I am pressed for time, I skipped the face toner and serum after cleansing. I am a fan of using face toners so trust me when I say that I don’t use this routine very often. My CLARINS - RE-BOOST Refreshing Hydrating Cream is a go-to for a recharging and effective morning cream. The silky and light cream-gel moisturizer feels lightweight for day use. Infused with a cocktail of nourishing fruit extracts like organic goji berry, fig, acerola seed, organic apricot oil and tamarind pulp acid, the cream boost my skin’s energy and hydration - fast. I spread the cream with slightly more pressure than usual all over my face, and even under my eyes. As I will be using fewer products than usual, I massage my face for a slightly logner time to ensure that skin fully absorbs the essence of the cream. Yes, I have no time. I will skip the eye cream. o Spray sunscreen that corrects skin tone Sunscreen is something I will never skip in my morning routine, even if I am looking at staying indoors all day. To save time, I use a spray sunscreen instead of the usual cream sunscreens that we are more familiar with. SUNPLAY - Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Essence SPF50+ PA++++ is easy to use – shake the spray can vigorously for 4 times and spray in an even circular motion 10 to 15cm away from your face. Not only do my face gets its essential SPF50 and PA++++ protection, the lavender-tinted formula also luminize my yellow skin undertone to give my complexion a healthy radiance. That’s two benefits in one product. Win! o Collagen spray to end with a dewy look One of my best kept K-beauty secrets, ETUDE HOUSE - Moistfull Collagen Emulsion is my favorite moisture spray. With hydrolyzed colllagen and baobab tree extract as its main ingredients, the formula gives a lightweight, water-based, yet highly moisturizing content that boost your skin with a plump, soft, and dewy texture. After sunscreen or my make-up routine, I use the spray on my face to set my skincare and make-up products. The dewy feel and look also gives an illusion that I had use a full range of skincare products on my face. Definitely one of my favorite beauty products!
Holy Grails! Hyperpigmentation Must-Have!
Growing up in Southeast Asia, I am accustomed to being under the harsh sun (and sweltering heat) all year. Coupled with my love for outdoor activity, it is inevitable that my skin is prone to dark spots on the cheeks as well as dark patches around the nose and chin, which also occurs partly due to genes. Hyperpigmentation can be caused by anything — whether it’s a pimple, a bad case of eczema, the sun, genetics, hormones, etc. Triggered by inflammation of any kind, the skin reacts and leaves a dark mark that can be tough to remove. One of the biggest hyperpigmentation causes is UV light, which stimulates melanin production. Hence, I have grown to be disciplined with sunscreen, even when I am staying indoors all day. I have also found two products that are particularly helpful with lightening my darker spots on my cheeks. The first item is the My Clarins RE-BOOST refreshing hydrating cream. The pink cream-gel moisturizer is infused with a cocktail of fruit extracts to boost skin’s energy and hydration. Infused with a refreshing blend of organic goji berry, fig, acerola seed, organic apricot oil and tamarind pulp acid, and detoxifying floral extract, the natural blend smells fresh, and it helps to boost my skin radiance and smoothe skin texture. The vegan-friendly cream can seem not rich enough sometimes. For days when I need extra hydration, I layer a hydrating serum or a potent SKII product underneath the cream first. The second item that helped with my pigmentation is SK-II R.N.A.POWER Radical New Age Cream. The silky texture is perfect for both cold and hot climates, resulting in zero residue when applied under make-up. The cream is made with SKII star ingredient PITERA, derived from yeast fermentation that resembles skin's natural moisturizing factors. Other ingredients in the mix such as RNArchitect Complex and Niacinamide, a type of vitamin B3 complex, also helps with gettig a more even skin tone and complexion. I usually apply this luxurious cream after traveling and flying to soothe my parched skin. I have also noticed that a week is all it takes for this cream to work its magic in the skin.

Skincare routine for my sensitive skin!!
My skin type: sensitive & acne-prone skin · STEP1: FIRST AID BEAUTY - Gentle Foaming Face Cleanser I have used it for a month, and I seriously love this stuff, super gentle on my sensitive skin! It's a silky formula that leaves my skin very soft. I only had a few minor breakouts, but nothing like I had before. The bottle is pretty big, so it'll last me a while, but I'll be repurchasing this once I run out! · STEP2: Darphin - INTRAL Toner I have sensitive skin and have always had adverse reactions to toners, so I skip them. However, I love the intral cleansing milk, so I was curious about this toner and saw such good reviews about it helping others with their redness, so I asked for a trial size of it from a store. After using it each day, I had to buy it. It's easily the most gentle and soothing toner I've ever used. It reduces my redness and feels calming to put on. · STEP3: CAUDALIE - Vinosource SOS Deep Hydration Serum I love this serum! Whenever my face is irritated, I apply it before bed, and by the next day, my skin is smooth, and the serum helps to calm the breakout or tired skin. It is gentle, hydrates, and works well for sensitive skin. It did not fix my dark spots altogether, but it does even out the skin a little. Give it a try :)
Best AHA treatment I’ve ever used
SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment Here’s my empty of 2019 which is an all-in-one AHA treatment. It says that it suits normal, dry, oily and combination skin types (basically all skin types except sensitive lol). I actually have combination skin and feel it works well for me. It claims to reduce fine lines and wrinkles which I found it really worked after a few weeks of using. It also claims that it can improve pores situation and reduce dark spots, but I have neither so I’m not able to discuss about these pros. My feelings about it: when apply it, my skin feels extremely nourished and also fresh like it’s breathing. I would highly recommend this to all of you except who has sensitive skin. It really worth trying!

Best for Young Adults? Here Is My Thoughts...
Are you wondering what type of skincare product you should use as a young adult? I tried Dior's Capture Youth series a while ago. So today, I would like to share a little bit of my thoughts. It is recommended for 20 to 25-year-olds that are turning into young adults. After cleansing, use the toner. Then mix the serum in the facial cream before applying it. 🌱🌱🌱 1. Matte Maximizer - It helps adjust the skin's water-oil balance for people with combination skin. It's matte, leaves your skin shine-free with a velvety complexion and minimizes the appearance of your pores. It's also great for oily skin. 2. Lift Sculptor - It has a thin consistency and when applied, it's moisturizing and grease-free, improving skin elasticity. 3. Plump Filler - It has a gel-like texture that is absorbed quickly by the skin without leaving your face sticky. It creates a natural look and helps to hydrate and plump skin. 4. Glow Booster - It targets dull skin and is suitable as a pre-makeup skincare product. It feels light on the face and is very moisturizing. 5. Redness Soother - It's mainly for repairing and soothing skin. It has a refreshing texture and is very moisturizing. 6. Age-Delay Progressive Peeling Cream - It has a moist texture and thick consistency. You can apply it before going to bed but it's a little too oily for morning use. I have combination-dry skin. When I stay up late and when I have my period, I usually to mix the pink and green serums. If your skin is dry from too much air conditioning, you can use the white moisturizing serum. The yellow serum can be used after using a skin tightening beauty device. You can also use it if you have any photo sessions the next day.

Ole Henriksen Power Duo
These two were a match made in Heaven. The Retinol alternative aka Bakuchiol plant is safe and great for dark spots and fine lines. Also helps with wrinkles for us older folks lol and larger pores which is great for All ages. The “day” serum is very lightweight and silky and with the help of the purpleish tint gives skin a healthy glow. The night cream is great for when skin clocks out and goes into “repair mode”. Gently exfoliating the skin, it helps to repair and strengthen the skins elasticity. It as well as the Serum has a great smell that reminds me of a Sorbet, which is why I had to have. Great price point for the amount of time that it should last you and with its plant based friendly ingredients. Highly recommend to anyone. Try it then buy it! Improve your skin ✨
This product is a serum advertise to improve skin tone, shrink pores and fine lines, boost radiance, prove it dryness, redness, and rough texture. There has been a lot of hype in the skin care community about niacinamide, and rightfully so. The texture/consistency of this product is a clear yellow liquid that applies quite easily. You only need a few drops of it to see results. I found out about this product because my daughter was using it. I was complaining about wrinkles in my skin, and she said that I should try this. After using it for just a few days, I noticed that my skin looks smoother, my wrinkles look less saggy, and my skin was glowing brighter. I told my daughter, I need this product more than you do 😀 can’t believe I didn’t know about this earlier! I highly recommend that anyone tries this product, especially if you have concerns about aging skin. It is kind of pricey but I think it is worth it.
