Suncream is Only Necessary When It’s Sunny?
Skincare myths Suncream is Only Necessary When It’s Sunny I’ve said this before and I’m saying it again: there’s nothing more important to your skincare routine then suncream. Don’t just take it from me, but doctors and dermatologists have proven this fact this over and over again, and yet, for some reason, the majority of people ignore this advice - particularly men. I’M SHOUTING NOW! We all need to be wearing suncream whether it’s sunny or not. All year round, every day, and not just for vanity reasons but for health. If you’re still confused about what to choose, here’s some great advice free of charge straight from my dermatologist. Choose a sunscreen with both UVA and UVB protection. UVA= A for - aging, this type of light is all year round and will penetrate clouds and glass. UVA can reflect off surfaces, sand, sidewalks, glass storefronts, and water. UVB= B for burning, this type is mostly in the summer. This is the most important part of your routine. Sun damage will lead to premature aging and skin cancers. I’m not saying you should remove all your products for suncream, but suncream should always be your last step before makeup application. Check out my routine. For me, a good morning routine would be to wake up, drink a big glass of water, cleanse, serum, eye cream, face cream, and the all-important suncream. You’re ready to go! At the moment my favorite face sunscreens are from ISDIN! I’m slowly getting through all of them to see which one I prefer; these 2 are my favorites. I practice what I preach and wear sunscreen every day. Let me tell you about the products. ISDIN - Fusion Water Sunscreen SPF 50+ Oil-Free and Foto Ultra Age Repair, Fusion Water Fusion Water Sunscreen SPF 50+ Oil-Free, is amazing, the texture is so thin and it’s literally invisible and, what’s more, it’s waterproof without being sticky or difficult to remove at the end of the day. My other favorite is…. Foto Ultra Age Repair. Fusion Water - this is a high protection sunscreen; a totally invisible light lotion. Sea friendly, you can apply it on wet skin. The good news is it doesn’t sting your eyes, and it’s anti-aging: perfect for sunny days. The great thing about this brand is its drug store price so you have no excuse not to use it. I promise you’ll thank me in the long run.
. #The Skinhouse - Sunblock [FourStars] ☀️ PR| Thank you @theskinhouse_official for sending me this sunblock to try. The Skinhouse Sunblock SPF50 PA+++ is a physical sunscreen that has the just-right consistency – not too runny and not too thick. It is easily spreadable and although there seems to be a slight white cast, it quickly goes away. It layers well with my other skincare products and make up. It does not get oily throughout the day which is a huge plus for me. I don’t find that it clogs my pores either which is another bonus. I don’t mind fragrance in my skincare products but this has a fairly strong, flower scent. There are some days when I don’t mind the scent but there are also some days when I feel like the scent is way too strong for my liking. I noticed that the scent lingers for a few hours because I started to wonder why I kept smelling fragrance while wearing my medical grade mask at work. . Overall, this sunblock ticked most of my boxes for a good sunblock but the fragrance may actually push me towards not purchasing this product in the future.
👎 Worst Sunscreens 👎
Both of these sunscreens are a huge NO from me!! I got them in a Sephora Favorites set a couple months ago. My skin is currently normal dry with acne. On the second slide, the left product is the Coola and the right product is the Biossance. . COOLA - Full Spectrum 360° Mineral Sun Silk Crème Organic Face Sunscreen SPF 30 Key Ingredients: Zinc oxide (provides full-spectrum UVA/UVB protection), Full-Spectrum 360 complex (helps diminish the look of skin damage from exposure to blue light, infrared, and pollution), and Sacred Lotus, White Peony, and Jasmine (visibly soften, moisturize, and illuminate skin to support a more youthful look). Scent: None Consistency/Texture: Rich Cream Price: $42 for 1.5 oz / 44 mL Experience: It is very heavy, you only need a little bit because it spreads, yet it’s hard to spread and becomes very streaky. My skin has been dry lately and so I was expecting to really enjoy this, but I could just feel it sitting on my face all day, it is very heavy on the skin. There is also a heavy white cast that stays throughout the whole day, so definitely would recommend to wear it under makeup if you get this. Repurchase/Recommend: No and debating just throwing the bottle away. The white cast and heavy feeling are uncomfortable and not something I want in a sunscreen. Plus I typically go for SPF 40 or higher. . BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 PA +++ Key Ingredients: Zinc Oxide (complete UVA/UVB protection), Water Lily (helps cool and calm the skin), Sugarcane-derived Squalane (helps sunscreen glide effortlessly onto skin while weightlessly locking in lasting moisture). Scent: None Consistency/Texture: Lotion Price: $30 for 1.7 oz / 50 mL Experience: This left a white/blue cast on my skin lol it wasn’t cute. Even with my skin being dry lately, this left my skin looking and feeling greasy/oily the whole day. It also clings to my hair and creates globules that are hard to get out. It’s also very thick and just feels gross on the face. You can feel it on your skin the whole day, along with the gross oily feeling. Repurchase/Recommend: No, I’m debating throwing this one away also lol. It isn’t worth the hassle of trying to use it up, but there’s no point in wasting it if I can use it while I’m just sitting at home and not going anywhere with anyone to see it. The oily and heavy feelings are really unpleasant.
COOLA-Full Spectrum 360° Mineral Sun Silk Crème Organic Face Sunscreen SPF 30
There is something about this sunscreen that makes wearing sunscreen fun😅 It is so so lightweight that it doesn’t feel like I am wearing a sunscreen! I love it so much that I had to get the backup of it. It does contain alcohol and is not fragrance free but I have not found any sunscreen that works better for me. My #journeyoffindings is on but until then this is probably going to be my #holygrail
Bioré-Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen SPF50+
The most elegant & heavy-duty sunscreen yet!
If you frequent any Asian Beauty subs you know you’ve heard of this sunscreen! TheKanebo - ALLIE Extra UV Gel Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ is touted as a holy grail for many in the sunscreen community. But is it worth the $25-$35 dollars it retails for? PROS Water-proof! It will stay put when swimming and won’t wash off without some serious effort. It creates almost a film-like barrier that you can feel on your skin when you first put it on but disappears after a few minutes of wear and I suspect this film is what makes it so good at protecting you from the elements. Sweat-proof! I actually put on this sunscreen when hiking. It’s pretty sweat-proof though I wouldn’t be able to tell you for how long since I always reapply after 2 hours. Resistant to friction! You know the feeling when you just put on your sunscreen and now you have to take off your t-shirt or put on a hat and your sunscreen comes off when it touches your face? No more! As long as the sunscreen is dry, it won’t come off! CONS If you have deep skin of color, you should consider skipping this. I wear foundation shade MUFE Y405, for reference and the white cast is visible on me. You have to double cleanse really well in order to take off the sunscreen before bed. This sunscreen is a workhorse and not easily broken down. If you have skin that will be easily irritated by too much cleansing, or haven’t found the right cleansing products for you, consider skipping this sunscreen. When rubbing in, you must work quickly and in thin layers. Additionally you have to let the layers dry completely between applications. The friction-proof qualities of this product make it so that if you accidentally let a big glop dry it will dry thick and white and will be difficult to spread out. Make-up can be difficult to spread on top, depending on the formula. For example, my wax RCMA foundation is easy to apply on top of this. But my sticky cream blush is not and will apply streaky. 💰💰💰. At $30ish for 40g you are not getting a lot of bang for your buck. Summary If you have a deep skin tone, definitely don’t get this unless you are willing to put up with the white cast. And honestly, as excellent as it is, I would really only recommend it for outdoor activities or when you need something heavy-duty due to the steep price point. Kanebo-ALLIE Extra UV Gel Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++
Supergoop SPF duo
☀️ The what: This is the Supergoop Perfect Day 2-in-1 SPF 50 face + body sunscreen and SPF 30 mint lip balm. This is available from select retailers and Supergoop.com. ☀️ The details: This sunscreen is SPF 50 and can be used on your face and body. This size is perfect for traveling or stashing in your bag. What makes this product unique is that it contains a lip balm underneath the cap! It even has a little mirror so you can check to make sure your sunscreen is blended in on the go. ☀️ My thoughts: HOW CUTE is this duo?! I do a lot of driving for work and tend to forget to put sunscreen on my hands and arms. I keep this baby in my bag for easy application on the go. I’ve been using it for about two months now. I have used it on my face and have not had any issues with breakouts. The lip balm is also nice. Lip protection is important, too! The balm feels nice and has a slight mint scent. The sunscreen formula is lightweight and not greasy. It sits well under makeup. The sunscreen smells sort of citrusy/herbaceous (it does contain basil, orange, and lemon). So far it’s been effective at blocking out UV rays and not making my watch tan lines worse (which got that way from me not wearing SPF on my arms when driving all summer). I think this duo is a litttttle bit overpriced for the amount of product you get, but I would repurchase. ☀️ The price: $19 for 1.7 oz. I purchased mine on Blue Mercury’s website 5/5⭐️
