My Process for Flawless Foundation

avatar
ToriBPowell
While I’m no makeup expert, I’ve found what makes me feel confident and beautiful. Here’s my process for achieving flawless foundation: Maintaining a healthy base is absolutely key to flawless foundation. Start off with a clean and moisturized face. Listen to your skin and watch how it reacts to products. Focus on skincare so that when you apply foundation, it’ll glide on in a breeze. If interested, I’ve described my skin routine previously for Cherie but if you’d like a spoiler, buy DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel
After my face is prepped, I apply MAYBELLINE - Cover Stick Concealer
directly onto any dark spots and redness. The green color helps to offset discoloration but it’s important to lightly blend it out afterwards so that the color isn’t too harsh and can be covered by foundation. And then comes actual foundation: You’re going to want to do research...and lots of it before you find your perfect fit. I’m not even sure if I’ve found mine, seeing that I mix two different foundations to satisfy my coverage and skin tone needs. There’s sheer, medium, and full coverage foundations so be sure to understand what you’re searching for. Look past just the labeling and what foundations claim that they’ll do. Go the extra mile and research the ingredients too. Try out different shades with specific undertones. Keep in mind that you may be a different color in the summer compared to the winter. I mixNARS - Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation
and MAYBELLINE - Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation
and have come to be satisfied with the outcome (although I’d love to only spend $$$ on one foundation). So, yes, it’s a journey and a long one that even I’m still on, but it’s one worth going on. I contour with KKW BEAUTY - Crème Contour & Highlight Sets
and honestly I love these. The contour colors aren’t too light or too dark for me and glide on smoothly, perfect to blend. I use the typical beauty blender for my foundation and wet it with water as most do to prevent excess product from soaking in. Make sure to gently dab instead of just rubbing foundation in and use product conservatively. I use e.l.f. - Beautifully Bare Blending Brush
to blend my highlight contour and really like it because of the brush’s precision. I can’t stress to you enough how important it is to consistently change your beauty blender and clean your makeup brushes. This goes along with protecting and maintaining skincare. I use MAC - Brush Cleanser
and a brush cleansing pad that I bought from Amazon. I simply soak the cleanser onto each individual brush in a bowl, brush it over the cleansing pad, rinse it off with water, and leave the brush to air dry. It may take some time but it’s totally worth it every so often. Trust me, your skin will thank you.

WHITE SUGAR SKULL MAKEUP 💀🤍
The inspiration behind this look was obviously a skeleton but I wanted to create a brighter look opposed to the dark/scary skeleton normally portrayed. Products used: -MAC - MAC Powder Blush this contour shade appears cool toned but applies warm. It can be a little chalky so make sure to have a smooth powdered surface when using - MAYBELLINE - Cover Stick Concealer I like this concealer because of its creamy texture. It’s is super easy to work with and blends well. I used a small lip liner brush to apply this. These sticks are perfect for Halloween makeup and color correction. - NYX - White Liquid Liner This eyeliner is super bright and is not drying - NYX - Slim Lip Pencil This lip liner is very pigmented so I applied light handed to get a softer shade. It is a little harder to blend out so be careful where you apply the liner to How to: I first applied my face makeup as usual and used the contour shade to warm up my cheeks, and temples. Then I used the white concealer and marked out the spider web on my forehead, circled around my eyes, and mouth markings. I also used the concealer as a lipstick and to create a skull nose. Next, I used the brown eyeliner to create dimension on the mouth/nose markings and the white eyeliner to create highlights on some of the white areas. I used pearls I found at Michaels and glued them on with white eyelash glue. For the eye makeup, I used the contour shade in the crease and the white concealer on the lids and set with powder. Lastly, I applied false lashes. I created this look awhile back and remember it being really quick to recreate. Also, my skill level is not that high so it is defiantly achievable for beginners with the right products. #CheriePartner

CREAM CONTOUR TIPS AND TRICKS! #cheriepartner
Contour on fleek! Follow tips And tricks I’ve learned for a great contour! It seems like highlighting and contouring are here to stay and not really going out of style. It’s been a while, but do you know how to properly contour? 𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫 _________________ Let’s talk about cream contour products and my favorite ones! UOMA BEAUTY - Double Take Contour Stick My go to! This contour stick has blown away all of my other favorites. + It’s creamy and pigmented. + Not patchy. + Easy to blend! + comes in shades for all different skin tones! Some other favorites of mine: KKW BEAUTY - Crème Contour & Highlight Sets 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫! Follow along with photos above! ① LIGHT HANDED— build up your pigment. you always want to start off with a little bit of product. You can easily build up your contour if you want it darker, but it’s more work to make it lighter if you start too heavy handed. If you look at my photo above, I only used that much product on each side of my cheek to contour my cheeks and forehead! ② PLACEMENT — where to apply. Specifically for the cheeks, you’ll want to start right at the top of your ear and go diagonally down towards the corner of your mouth. Tap just a tiny bit of product right at the top near your ear and basically in your hair line. Do not bring the product all the way down your cheeks yet. When blending out with a sponge or brush you will do this. ③ Get it done! — BLEND IT OUT. To blend it out take your pick of a sponge or brush. I like to use a damp beauty blender. I pinch my beauty blender together to make a line and use precise and soft tapping/bouncing motion to blend out. ALWAYS BLEND UP above your cheek bones. Envision where you want your contour to be and blend up from there. You’ll also want to blend into the hair line. While you blend you can bring the sponge down towards the direction of the corner of your mouth, but do not blend your contour all the way down!! Stop about half way or where the center of your pupil is. Even if your cheek bones aren’t prominent you will still be able to feel where your cheekbones are at to help guide you for where to blend out your contour. ④ finishing touches — perfect it! I personally like to make sure my contour is nice and soft, but noticeable. Depending on how strong of a contour I want, I’ll add more product and blend out more. If it looks good I’ll make sure it’s not patchy or give it a crisp like with foundation or concealer underneath it blended out. The overall process doesn’t take long at all for me and gets easier with practice. Leave your tips in the comments! #cheriepartner

TIPS TO LOOK DECENT IN PHOTO ID’s✨
If you clicked on this, you’re probably like me and care what you look like in your id photos. You have your license with you for quite a bit so it makes sense to want it to look good. Here are some tips I used to take my photo that left results that I’m not embarrassed to show others when needed. LESS IS NOT MORE You always hear how less is more and that’s usually the case when you’re not being photographed. In pictures, lots of the makeup can be lost through the lens if it’s not exaggerated. Think false lashes and over lined lips to stand out. STICK TO NEUTRALS Today is not the day to try out bright colors and glitters. (Choose shades that compliment your natural skin tone. It is important to match your foundation and avoid using black shadow/ liners.) With bright colors you run the risk of becoming washed out with a color that does not suit you and glitter can create unwanted flashback mistakes, which takes me to my next point. BE PICKY WITH YOUR SETTING POWDER Nobody likes taking a picture and seeing that washed out white-cast all over their face from setting powder. To avoid this, simply stick to fine translucent powders such as the laura mercier - Translucent Loose Setting Powder . Powders that advertise ‘HD’ tend to create a flashback when photographed. CONTOUR/HIGHLIGHTING IS YOUR NEW BFF Remember those crazy contouring looks from 5 years ago? With photographing ID’s, those skills may come in handy. A photo is 2D so we want to bring more to the photo with these illusions. Choose a highlighter shade up to 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone and highlight the tops of the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, inner corner of the eye, and brow bone. With contouring, chose a neutral shade up to 3-4 shade darker than your skin tone and apply to the hollows of your cheeks, temples of the forehead, down the side of the nose, and finally the jawline. I recommend NARS - Radiant Creamy Concealer for highlighting and KKW BEAUTY - Crème Contour & Highlight Sets for contouring.

PM skincare routine with Differin!
Hi friends❤️ In this post I’m going to walk you through my PM routine on the nights that I use Differin! Step 1: first cleanse If I am wearing makeup I use the THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm This is by far my favorite product in my whole skincare collection! I cannot say enough good things about this product. I would give it more stars if I could! It gets ALL of my makeup off including mascara and also feels soooooo soothing on my skin. The texture makes it so relaxing to massage on my face after a long day. The smell isn’t great but it doesn’t bother me at all, just smells like oats. Possibly the best thing about this product is the value! It is only $10 for a huge tube that has lasted me almost 3 months and it’s not close to running out. I highly recommend this product because it is the best price for a first cleanse that I’ve found and is very soothing on my dry skin! Step 2: Second cleanse For my second cleanse after my makeup is off, I’ve been loving VANICREAM - Gentle Facial Cleanser This product is super gentle and doesn’t leave my face feeling dry after! I was on vacation a few weeks ago and forgot a cleanser so I picked this up and ended up absolutely loving it! Step 3: moisturizer I have been using the CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream on the nights I use Differin first because I have dry skin to start out with, plus Differin really makes my skin flaky! I have had this night cream for awhile and it is good. I switched to using the CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream but it made my face sting and I think it was making me break out more 😭 so now I just use that on my body. So now I’m back to finishing the renewing night cream. I gave this product 4/5 stars only because I’m not in love with it. It is good but I will probably try a different moisturizer for night time when I finish this tub! Step 4: Differin Gel I have only been using DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel every other night consistently for the past 2 weeks. This is the only reason I have given it 4 stars, I don’t know what my results with this product will be yet! I will keep you all updated on how it is helping my skin. This is my last try before going to a derm about my acne. I am hopeful that it will help, but I do know it can take a few months! ❤️❤️❤️

SKIN UPDATE #3 🙌
my skin is looking so glowy so far! But still some acne and dark spots. My acne is definitely decreasing! Especially the ones deep under the skin. I also have a almost completely new skincare routine which I will be making a separate post on but I linked all the products in this post too!

Drugstore v. Luxury Foundation
Is it me or is it always a struggle to find a good foundation?? anyone? well guys, here we go! I usually try to match a foundation stick with a liquid foundation or a creamy concealer with a matte foundation! In the purple sweater photo, I’m wearing MAYBELLINE - Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation & Glossier. - Stretch Concealer ! I’ve haven’t used maybelline in *years*. I used to use it in high school literally every day but decided to take a break and dive into more luxury, clean skincare... ...which leads up to the photo in a black pullover, I’m wearing ILIA - True Skin Serum Foundation & Milk MAKEUP - Flex Foundation Stick which I’ve been using the last year and a half but when I’m really dry on my face (mainly during winter), my face starts peeling ☹️ I think that’s it’s mainly the MM stick ugh but the verdict? both wear and stay very, very well throughout the day & feel SUPER weightless ~however~ I will probably stick with the maybelline foundation for now since I’m not wearing full face makeup everyday and the glossier concealer but don’t knock Ilia & the MM stick because both are really nice for a more sheer look but it is a bit $$$ I love going back and forth on both combos. I really need to try maybellines concealer due to cost to glossier’s but man oh man glossier’s stretch concealer is probably the best concealer I’ve tried thus far! 👏🏼 I hope this helps anyone trying to decide on a drugstore or luxury brand! both are great and definitely worth trying! I love having both options, especially depending on the need of the type of look I’m going for ✨ happy Monday, Cherie fam! 🌝

Trying out Rare Beauty’s Vulnerable Line 👄
so I’m to the point where every time Rare Beauty releasing a new product, I have to get my hands on it... 👀 so I got theRare Beauty - Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush , Rare Beauty - Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow , Rare Beauty - Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm in Nearly Neutral and the Rare Beauty - Stay Vulnerable All Over Eyeshadow Brush ! the blush really does *melt* into your skin and it’s lovely! Im not the best with blush it’s almost foolproof to mess this up ~ you can sheer it out and it looks like a natural looking flush! but it is a cream blush so I understand if that’s not your cup of tea! the eyeshadow blends so well and I love these colors to choose from! I went with NN to go with the rest of my order ~ probably an unpopular opinion but I like this product more than Glossier’s Skywash 🤫 and the lip balm? gloss? balm gloss? ugh I’m obsessed...I even got my grandma obsessed! There’s definitely a color in it but it’s the same color as my lips & it doesn’t get sticky or uncomfortable ~ it feels so hydrating it’s just 🤩 lastly, the eyeshadow brush? so so lovely! It’s a pretty pink color, different than the concealer/foundation brush. It’s a lot smaller than the other two, I just love it. It really mimics your finger! p.s. I tagged the other beauty items that I’m wearing in the photo! 📸 10/10 love rare beauty products & their Instagram, it talks about inclusivity and mental health ~ I love when a new post pops up on my home screen *do you agree with me? have you tried these items yet?? let me know 👇🏼*

High-end foundation comparison 💁🏼‍♀️ PT 1
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! I wanted to share swatches of my new foundations that I got at Sephora. - ARMANI beauty - Luminous Silk Foundationin shade 3.75 - this shade is just a little too tan, so I'll mix some too faced btw foundation in shade cloud if I'm wearing it (the shade I use to lighten up foundation) and I love it because its so smooth and blends out like a dream. It reminds me of the NARS - Natural Radiant Longwear Foundationbc of the thickness and they blend out similarly. - beautyblender - BOUNCE Liquid Foundationin shade 1.50C - felt nice when I blended it, but my only problem with it is the bottle/container, since it really shoots out and if you push the button on the back (the pump) you have to press slowly even tho it requires a bit of force and you might be able to get a partial pump. Also, I don't like that the foundation can't be pumped directly onto a blender or brush - it goes right on the bottle & makes it dirty, plus you might have extra. In addition, the surface of the bottle might not be as sterile or clean (of course depending on if you clean it - but for example using the foundation after sitting out on a counter or in a makeup bag) as a sponge or brush. - Charlotte Tilbury - Airbrush Flawless Longwear Foundationin shade 2 cool - I really love how this foundation felt on my skin (even in the small area) and I feel like it's an equivalent of the armani foundation - like in a foundation match finder. - DIOR - BACKSTAGE Face & Body Foundationin shade 1 cool rosy - I like how the bottle is a squeeze bottle and not a pump one bc it's different and it seems like the product's packaging design is meant to be more hands-on and you can be more specific with applying it than a pump bottle foundation. I noticed when swatching that it's a little more liquidy than the others - specifically the armani one. - ESTĒE LAUDER - Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundationin shade 1C0 shell - this is the foundation I've been most excited for bc of all the great reviews and how it's a holy grail for many. I have to say this one matches my skin tone the best and blends out very smoothly too. - HOURGLASS - Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stickin shade vanilla - this one's very pink and slightly darker than my skin tone, but that's ok, since I can use it for a light contour. Like I've said about lots of these is that they blend out smoothly, same w/this one Already had: - Rare Beauty - Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation in shade 140C - one of my faves - Too Faced - Born This Way Natural Finish Foundation in shade cloud - a little too light - Too Faced - Born This Way Natural Finish Foundation in shade seashell - slightly too dark but it's fine ✨✨PT 2 coming soon

My Combo Skin Foundation Solution!
Finding the perfect foundation can be a struggle. If you weren’t blessed with perfect skin you know the struggle is actually real and sometimes it really sucks. My t-zone can be an oil slick while my cheeks are dry as a desert. I sometimes deal with drastic weather changes in my area so what my skin needs one day can be quite the opposite the next day! Now, everything starts with a solid skincare routine, then you need a good primer, but today we are just talking about foundation. Catch me later for the other topics 😉 I have tried so many foundations and have been so disappointed until I just realized that I am going to have to mix two different formulas. It’s actually smart to have a few different formulas on hand for different needs and climates. I don’t know why for so long I thought I just needed one foundation. I feel like Goldilocks when it comes to foundation because one will be too matte and another one melts off my face. It’s already a struggle finding a color match, so finding the right formula can make the battle even worse. Here is what I did! NARS - Soft Matte Complete Foundation recently came out and I had to try it. In the summer this will be my go to! But, for fall/winter I really needed something just a little more hydrating. NARS - Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation was perfect for the job. The shades in each formula are practically identical so that made things easy. I mix 1/3 of the Natural Radiant and 2/3 of the Matte and at the end of the day my makeup is still in place and I don’t look too dry or too oily in any areas. It also holds up fantastic under a mask as long as you use a good setting powder and spray. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps with your combination skin battles! ❤️😘

It is the Clinique super balanced powder makeup #Clinique - Super balanced Powder makeup SPF 15[products]#[FiveStars] and I just use a brush to apply it on a red pimple and it looks like normal skin. The BEST tinted sunscreen!!
The BEST tinted sunscreen!!
I’ve been searching to find a clean mineral tinted sunscreen since I can remember. I finally found one for my oily acne prone skin that doesn’t clog my pores and is easy to apply. I have been using the ILIA - Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 for about a month and I absolutely love it! It has enough coverage but doesn’t feel like I’m wearing makeup. Plus I love that it has plant based squalene + niacinamide + hyaluronic acid. Overall 10/10 would recommend!

This is my holy grail foundation! It is more of a matte finish, and will last all day for me personally, and is my everyday foundation. I always apply with a beauty blender. I have a few dark spots from sun exposure and it completely covers them up, and is extremely long-lasting! The only downside is that it can be a little difficult to get off, but a good makeup remover and cleanser should do the trick! I started using it about 4 years ago after trying a variety of foundations. I love that Estée Lauder Double Wear doesn’t break me out at all. Since I have sensitive skin, I get breakouts easily from other foundations I’ve tried. It’s definitely full coverage, but not even close to looking cakey. I highly recommend trying it out if you are in the market for a new foundation! #cheriecreatorESTĒE LAUDER - Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation

A great foundation for my dry, sensitive skin!
A great foundation for my dry, sensitive skin!
100% pure - Fruit Pigmented Full Coverage Water Foundation I use the Full Coverage Water Foundation in the shade (Warm 2.0) which is their lightest shade. I have super dry & sensitive skin and was looking for something with a heavier coverage than my Burts Bees tinted moisturizer in (Ivory) and this did the trick. This is a lightweight foundation with buildable coverage and a dewy finish. It’s very hydrating and never looks cakey, or clings to my dry patches. I have extremely sensitive, reactive skin and this product has never caused a breakout or allergic reaction. The only downside, is that this so called “full-coverage” foundation, is far from full coverage. It’s a lightweight, buildable formula, that leaves me with a dewy, natural looking finish, unfortunately it’s more light-medium coverage, which doesn’t bother me, but is definitely misleading. Also, for anyone struggling to find a correct shade in this foundation, I found that the shade (Warm 2.0), is very similar to the shade (Créme), pic of shade comparison included.

A Powder That Combatted Quetzalcoatl’s Pyramid ⭐
If you’ve read my post about innisfree - Pore blur primer then you should already know that this is the powder I used alongside the Innisfree primer whenever I was in Mexico visiting my husband. ❤️ You should also know then that I trekked 8 miles up and down the pyramids of Teotihuacán 🇲🇽 and got super hot and sweaty 🥵 BUT, my face stayed nearly flawless thanks to this innisfree - No Sebum Moisture Powder and the innisfree - Pore blur primer 🙌🏻 Do I like it? YES! You tell me what powders keep your face nice while hiking up and down pyramids for 8 miles in the Mexican sun! This one did! Recommended for? I have dehydrated, oily, sensitive acne-prone skin and this didn’t make my face feel dry, didn’t make me oily and also didn’t cause any irritation or breakouts! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 So I would say it’s worth trying for any skin type! Overall thoughts? I can’t say that I’ve ever found a powder that doesn’t make my face feel tight / dry, but this seriously keeps my oil in check without dehydrating my skin and I love that. Plus, how could I not love a face powder that keeps my pale moonlit skin nice in the Mexican heat? Now granted, I DID have to reapply it at least once towards the end of the night on my first date with my now husband. Of course it was AFTER we took a picture together of me trying pulque for the first time and I looked a bit oily but that was around 11:00 PM. So I’d say for a face powder that lasted all the way from 8:00 AM, that’s pretty damn good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You can bet your sweet cheeks that I’m going to be stocking up on this stuff (just in case) when my husband and I move back to Mexico 🇲🇽🙌🏻❤️
