Hair Routine for Sleek Shine
TEDDY_QUINLIVAN
I have the most over processed hair, after nearly 10 years of modeling, dying my hair every few months, and over styling my hair has really been through it. Even tho my hair is damaged it doesn’t stop me from attempting to make it look healthy. I have quite fine pin straight hair, it’s very dense in some places and sparse in others like around my hairline. I have a few products that really help me to make my hair look it’s best. For me I feel my hair looks it’s best when it shines and appears damage free without looking greasy o heavy. This is a great routine for someone with my kind of hair, for someone who needs to restore life and youth to their hair.
1. Once I’m in the shower I apply the Kérastase Resistance Shampoo to the palms of my hands and begin massaging it in at the roots and working my way down to the ends of the hair. Massaging the shampoo improves circulation in the scalp to stimulate growth and really helps thoroughly clean the hair. This shampoo is a strengthening product for brittle, damaged hair, with split ends; so it’s perfect for my hair. It’s cleansing without being too harsh. I then completely rinse the shampoo from my head with warm water.
2. I next apply the Kérastase Resistance Conditioner which is the match to the shampoo starting from the ends of my hair and working up to the crown, but don’t apply the conditioner to the roots or it will weigh the hair down. I let the conditioner sit in my hair for 3-5 min for maximum penetration before brushing with my favorite Tangle Teaser wet hair brush and then rinsing. This conditioner leaves my hair feeling lustrous and moisturized. The conditioner helps with strengthening the hair so it doesn’t break and improves the appearance of shine.
3. This is a step I personally take after I’ve towel dried my hair, while the pores on my scalp are still open from the warm shower. I use the Hers Minoxidil topical solution on the patchy parts of my hairline where hair has slowed or stopped growing due to multiple burns from hot tools over my many years modeling. Minoxidil is a proven and safe solution to stimulate hair regrowth. I’ve been using it for months now and I really see improvements and new growth. Kinda amazing! I have to use this day and night on my hairline for best results.
4. I always let my hair air dry about 50% before I go in with the Kérastase Genesis Defense Thermique fortifying blow dry fluid. This hair serum provides anti-breakage protection and tames frizz without weighing the hair down. I don’t normally blow dry my hair but if I did I know this will provide protection and just gives my hair the boost of moisture it needs especially on the ends. I spray this from the mid lengths of the hair to the ends and brush it through.
5. Once my hair is completely air dried I finish my routine with a simple hair oil like the OGX Renewing Extra Penetrating oil. I apply a dime sized amount to the palms of my hands and run it through the lengths of my hair focusing on the ends and avoiding the roots. This really helps lock in the moisture from the other products and leaves my hair with an expensive looking shine. It tames my fly aways and completely eliminates any frizz I have at my ends. Just use it sparingly if you have thin hair because you run the risk of weighing the hair down.
6. This is an extra step that I do once in a while but is completely necessary to maintain healthy liking hair if you’re hair is super damaged like mine. I use the Olaplex No 3 hair perfector before shampooing on damp towel dried hair and leave it in for 15 to 30 min before hopping in the the shower and continuing with my normal hair routine, which means if you chose to do this step you use this hair product like a mask before shampooing. This is a hair stylist staple because it really works! It repairs and strengthens the hair and you can see a difference in a single use!

BYE BYE BRANDS: OGX 🤭
i will admit that I've used a few of OGX brand Products over the years but I finally realize there's a reason why I always end up using something else. their shampoos and conditioners are marketed to be sulfate free but that doesn't mean that every product is sulfate free. i've used a few of their collections & at the end of the bottle i don't feel compelled to go out and buy anymore. i've finally come to terms with.
i have color treated hair as well & this DID NOT maintain my color, i felt it almost stripped it.
also they are NOT organic... you'd think that's what OGX stood for but you'd be mistaken! they used to be called organix but they are not a cruelty-free brand. not every product in my collection is currently cruelty-free but i am trying to phase those products out! i fully understand using products that you can within your budget! just wanted to say that because i personally know it can be difficult to find CF products on a dime. on that note....
here are some products i've used & why i gave them up!
ogx - Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum - weighed down my hair a lot! contains dimethicone which can cause buildup on strands.
ogx - Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Voluminous Mousse - very sticky! i love the packaging unfortunately but it made my hair feel crispy.
ogx - Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Extra Penetrating Hair Oil - rating this higher because i've repurposed it to use on my body! again it was just very heavy on my hair after awhile. i feel this made my hair get oily faster.
ogx - Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo
ogx - Nourishing Coconut Milk Conditioner - hair didn't feel clean, needed a lot of both products to feel like it was doing something
ogx - Protecting + Silky Blowout Quick Drying Thermal Spray - i keep this product but because it's actually sulfate free & i rarely heat my hair so using it from time to time doesn't take too much of a toll.

How to treat dry hair? You can't miss these products!
I generally have very dry hair. I hate seeing the ends of my hair and see that it looks like a used toothbrush. So over the years I have been trying products and tips for my hair to always look its best. So, first of all I start the night before with coconut oil. We already knew that coconut oil is a super product that you can use as lip balm, makeup remover, face cream, cuticle conditioner... But it's also good for hair. If you want to show off a spectacular mane you should incorporate it into your care routine, because its a hydration and nutrition pump, which fights frizz and other problems. Coconut oil is known for its moisturizing and nourishing properties, and also provides shine and softness, without leaving the hair oily. On the other hand, it also protects the hair fiber by preventing hair breakage and giving it strength.
PANTENE - Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner Bundle
PANTENE - Pro-V Repair & Protect Conditioner
I have a favorite shampoo and conditioner. They are from the company Pantene. First of all, they smell so good and the scent stays in your hair for days. Ita amazing. Pantene has a very big line of amazing products. I find that this is the best line for specific types of hash. They use very good ingredient and it leaves your hair spectacular. I shampoo my hair with warm wáter. And the conditioner mask I leave it for about 5 to 10 minutes until I Feel my hair like liquid butter. Then I rinse it off with cold (but not so cold) wáter.
I use a microfiber towel to dry my hair. I tend to not use a hair dryer. I only use it when I'm in a rush. I let it air dry. When it's just a Little bit wet, I then apply some drops or Argan oil. ogx - Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Extra Penetrating Hair Oil Argan oil deeply nourishes hair, providing shine and strength thanks to its high content of essential fatty acids

Best cream and conditioner for bleached hair
Best cream and conditioner for bleached hair
I have coarse hair because I bleached my hair three times to get it blonde. It is a very long and damaging process. Blenching makes my hair dry, fizzy and easy to breakage. The process also hurt my scalp. Bleaching raises my hair’s cuticle and allow Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia penetrate, rapidly and continuously reduce the moisture from my strands. After I blench my hair, I have to use a lot of hair care product to keep my hair hydrated and nourished.
I recommend using Pantene’s INTENSE SMOOTHENING LEAVE ON CRÈME. This product can smooth hair and bring moisture to the hair, leaving hair hydrated and smooth. This treatment helps me to plump the hair with moisture, make my hair more elastic. The texture is very thick and even a little bit greasy if applying too much. After using it, my hair immediately becomes smooth. It increases shine and manageability to my hair. I use this almost every day to prevent my hair away from environmental damage, including air-condition and UV rays.
I also recommend OGX Extra Strength Coconut Miracle Oil Conditioner. This is a little bit expensive conditioner, costs around 15 dollars. The product has a strong smell of coconut oil. The texture is very thick and creamy with a decent smell. It makes my hair soft and nourished. I only need to use a little to coverage and smooth hair. I have tried many different conditioners that are often very dry. this one gives me a great result to manage my hair. Although blenching my hair raises it's cutlet and makes strands tangle easily, this conditioner seal in moisture and add shine to my coarse hair. I highly recommend these two products to people who have damaged and bleached hair.
Maintaining Your Blonde in Between Appointments
This is my routine for caring for my bleached balayage hair while I am unable to go to the salon to get it touched up. I have tried many different purple shampoos: dpHUE, amika, and even Joico’s blue shampoo, but my absolute favorite is Redken’s purple shampoo! It smells amazing first of all, but also tones my brassiness SO much! Something that I only recently learned is that the longer you let it sit on your hair, the better it works. So now I apply it very first thing in the shower and let it sit while I do other things. This tones my hair for at least a week, so I only use it maybe every other time I wash my hair. Something else you can do to prep your hair for your next appointment is to keep it strong and healthy by using the Olaplex conditioning treatment. I use this about 2-3 times per month because it comes in such a small bottle and I want it to last! This is not just a conditioning treatment, it repairs the bonds in your hair that are broken when it gets bleached, so it really helps build back up the strength of your hair. These two products will keep you brass-free and ready for your next appointment!
How to Care for Long, Thin and Bleached Hair ☀️
I have very long and thin bleached hair so it gets very dry easily and also can get extra oily at times with regular washing. I wash it in the morning, brush it through and let it air dry after adding in some products below!
1. Add Hydration
✨Bleach dries out hair like no other so adding hydration back into your hair is going to be important. I use a variety of products for this. One thing I like is to use really nourishing shower products like the Olaplex conditioner. These products are gorgeous and make my hair feel better and softer. Their unique technology repairs hair from within.
✨Another product I love is the Gisou hair oil which is good for hydration but also styling if you’re just leaving your hair down for the day. It smells amazing and the honey is great for hair. It tames flyaways, somehow just makes hair look better and hydrated.
✨Hair masks can also be very useful and Olaplex has one too. I also like the Amika hair masks for extra hydration and try to use these at least once a week to repair and hydrate.
2. Detangle
✨One product I love to use right after washing is the leave in conditioner spray by It’s a 10! This has so many uses, hence the name, but I love the smell, nourishing and detangling properties of this the most. The detangler aspect is also useful so I’m not causing unnecessary damage when brushing if I have knots.
3. Take a Hair Supplement
✨After starting my first, I’ve found that my hair definitely grows faster and feels better than before! I use Hush & Hush supplements. They have them for hair, daily vitamins and one that is super amazing for nighttime if you’re struggling with relaxing and sleeping. You can use my name as a code to save money too if you’d like (“chelsea”). This is important because you’re giving your body what it needs and more to care for your hair health and also your body.
4. Use Products with Extra Heat Protection
✨I personally like Amika’s The Wizard because it smells amazing and does the job. Generally, temperatures over 450 F won’t break or damage hair but I avoid lots of heat and styling just because my hair is already damaged and dry, but when I do I always use products with extra protection. Regular hair cuts help too to prevent additional breakage at the bottom!

Olaplex on Natural Hair: Believe the Hype?
I have seen this product before but I was certain that it likely wasn’t for my type of hair because, well let’s be honest, most salon products aren’t really geared towards ethnic hair...certainly not in it’s natural state. 🤷🏽♀️
However, after moving from the curly hair friendly climate of Miami and into the not so forgiving temperatures of NYC, I had to find a solution for my stressed tresses.
I’ve had terrible breakage lately and needed a fix fast. So after much hesitation, I decided to take the leap (and spend a little $$$) after researching and reading a ton of reviews. Not going to lie...$28 for 3 ounces of product was....not appealing...AT ALL. Anyone with thick or curly hair knows how product can disappear in there lol. So I got 2...just in case lol. 💸💸😩🤣
On application to my damp (not shampooed) hair, I was quite surprised that it only took 1/3 of the the container to coat my hair (I sectioned in 4 parts to be thorough). I left it in overnight, rinsed it out, then shampooed and conditioned as usual.
Guys. I have become a believer in Olaplex.
Immediately after the initial rinse, my hair felt pillow soft. I was still skeptical thinking this silky feeling would wash away with shampooing. It did not. Ummm...wow. This is nice.
Also major points...I ONLY SHED A FRACTION OF A FRACTION OF THE NORMAL AMOUNT OF HAIR DURING WASH & DETANGLING. HUGE! This stood out most because it has bothered me to see so much shed hair lately and I almost shed none in this wash!
I now believe the hype, so for any other curly girls out there looking for a fix to damaged and breaking hair...this is worth a try. Holy Grail, dare I say?!
OLAPLEX-No. 3 Hair Perfector
Products that can help you have sleek locks - even if your hair is coarse
Coarse hair is a tricky texture of hair to deal with. The reason being is that the hair is often only really coarse from the mid lengths to the ends, with the roots being much drier in comparison. This makes it difficult to find a product that deals with the problem of coarse hair, as so many coarse hair products are very rich in oil. This can make the roots simply appear greasy the moment that you start to use them.
Recently, I tried out two new products on my coarse hair. The first I tried was the Ultimate Blends range from Garnier. I tried out their coconut oil and cocoa butter product as it has been designed to nourish dry and frizzy hair. Additionally, it’s a product that has ethically sourced ingredients while the bottle itself is 100% recyclable and so can be kept out of landfills. The product is also silicone free whilst being made in a factory that uses sustainable practices.
It’s a good price for an everyday shampoo and in the main it did clean my hair. I can’t say that it really attacked my coarse frizz however, despite the high concentration of coconut oil and cocoa butter. These ingredients did make it smell great though. It costs about £2-3 depending on the supplier.
I’ve also tried out, much more successfully, VO5’s Perfect Lengths treatment. You can use it when styling your hair and it’s specifically made to target dry ends as well as giving users shine and definition. I was really happy with this product. I loved it because it meant I could put it specifically where my frizz is - meaning it didn’t have to go near my roots. While the range of Perfect Lengths products are aimed at those with longer hair - I still managed to use it on my bob length hair. Plus, it gave moisture to my dry ends so that the appearance of my hair’s coarseness was diminished.
While it didn’t resolve the problem that causes my hair to be coarse, this Finishing Creme is definitely a product I will be using again to make my hair look smooth and sleek. They’ve recently updated the packaging to a pink bottle in comparison to my blue one. The product is still the same inside however and will cost between £4-5.
MY HOLY GRAILS FOR COARSE HAIR
I still haven’t gotten around to getting my hair cut after lockdown, and as a result my normally straight and smooth hair is feeling pretty coarse, especially the ends. Here are some products that I’ve found help make my hair look and feel much better!
Mise En Scene Perfect Repair Hair Serum
This oil and silicone-based hair serum comes in a pump bottle that dispenses the perfect amount of serum for my hair. I usually apply 1 to 1 ½ pumps of hair serum, any more than that and it can weigh my hair down. It contains a mix of plant oils including: Argan, Camellia, Coconut, Apricot, Marula, Jojoba, and Olive Oil.
My tip for this product is to apply it to slightly damp hair, then blow dry for maximum shine and smoothness. It has a floral smell (which I love) and a single bottle seems to last a really, really long time.I bought mine in Korea in January this year and I’m barely a quarter of the way through it now, so it will last me a while!
L’Oreal Elvive/Elseve Extraordinary Oil Conditioner
A good conditioner helps smooth coarse hair, too. This one also has a lot of plant oils to condition hair and make it smooth and silky. It also has a floral yet sweet scent that I love—I love nice-smelling hair care, okay?! I apply a pretty generous amount to my lengths and ends of hair (never roots, that’s how you get greasy flat roots). I’ve actually repurchased this many times before and I’ll continue to buy it (until I get bored of the scent, that is…)
Both of these are affordable, drugstore picks that I’d happily recommend to anyone that’s looking for great hair care that smooths down coarse hair.
