Shine Free Foundation Review
My usual go to foundation is MAC Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation Stick. But the shade I have is too light for summer and with no trip to Ulta for the foreseeable future, I picked up the Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation Stick in Buff Beige. While I prefer the MAC foundation, this Maybelline product is a close second. It blends well and has an almost powdery finish. I think this is a good choice for anyone with oily skin and also a good summer foundation due to its light, breathable formula. It’s about $10 at CVS. But of course I had coupons and extracare bucks, so I paid less. Still worth it at full price though.

Revisiting Boy Brow
I decided to revisit my review of Glossier Boy Brow, now that I have had a chance to use it more, and to also review another brow product I have been using, the Salon Perfect Done in One Brow Pomade. In a lot of my reviews of products in similar categories, I pick a winner. But with these products, I use both equally often, depending on the brow look I am going for. I use the Boy Brow as my casual, every day brow product. At my age, I need to use a brow product every day to cover the random white hairs in my brows, and Boy Brow does the the trick. It’s super easy to swipe on and go. When I want a more finished look, I use the Salon Perfect. If my brows are especially unruly that day, I will use the Boy Brow on top of the Salon Perfect and they play nice together. Boy Brow is $16 at Glossier. The main con is the price, as the tube is tiny. But I will be repurchasing when I run out, unless someone knows of a good dupe. The Salon Perfect is $4 at Walmart. The main con is there are only three shades and they are all fairly dark. I have dark brows, so this is not an issue for me, but if you have lighter brows, they probably won’t have a shade that works for you. Overall, I like both products and will continue using them. Both are worth the money for me.
Cure for Bad Day = Bright Lipstick!
I woke up in a funk today. I think months of nowhere to go, working from home and homeschooling have finally gotten to me. Plus yesterday I got dragged into someone else’s drama and that left me feeling uneasy and made it hard to sleep. So I did not want to get out of bed this morning. But I did. And to help cheer myself up, I put on a nice bright shade of lipstick. I am wearing Mac Lustre Lipstick in Lustering. These are $19 at Ulta, though I think my exact shade may be discontinued. It’s a light, creamy formula that goes on with a nice bright pigment. It really is a nice pick me up for a bad day.
Nice moisturizing lip balm
The Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm has been a staple in my makeup bag for several years now. It’s a great moisturizing formula for dry lips, with a sheer color for those days when you want something a little lighter. It is not a long wearing formula, but most moisturizing lip balms aren’t. These are about $7 at Target, which is completely reasonable. I currently have three shades in my bag: Sweet Peach, Ripe Raspberry and Pixi Pink. I am wearing Sweet Peach in the last photo. My girls love these as much as I do and are always stealing them out of my makeup bag!

My favorite red lipstick
Until I found Mac Retro Matte lipstick in Ruby Woo, I thought red lipstick was not for me. I had tried many shades of red from various brands, including the iconic Revlon Cherries in the Snow. No shade ever looked quite right on me. But I loved the look of a classic red lip on others, so I kept trying and was always disappointed. The closest I could get was a dark coral, but it wasn’t that classic look I was craving. I had heard Ruby Woo was a classic, universally flattering shade, but I was hesitant to spend $20 on another red lipstick that might not be quite right. Then I received this one in a beauty box and immediately fell in love. It is a perfect red shade for my coloring. It wears fairly long. I do have to reapply after eating. But I have to do that with most lipsticks. My only con is that it is a bit dry. This isn’t a huge con, as I sometimes will add clear gloss on top to moisturize. But that is the reason for the 4 stars. I do think this one is worth the money and definitely worth trying out if you are still searching for that perfect red lipstick. I will definitely re-purchase when this one runs out.

Battle of the Concealers
Last week, I rated the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer and today I decided to compare it to the Smashbox Studio Finish Flawless Concealer I received a few days later. The Maybelline retails for $10 and the Smashbox is $26 at Ulta, though I paid $16 from Zulily.. Both are medium coverage, buildable concealers. The Maybelline has a better applicator and is easier to apply just the right amount, which you can see in the second picture. (Maybelline right, Smashbox left) Both concealers are a good weight for aging skin and don’t settle into fine lines. However, once everything is blended in, Smashbox is the clear winner. It covers my dark circles much better. That’s not to say the Maybelline is a bad product. I will probably still purchase if I am at the drugstore and need to pick up a concealer.

Retinol Eye Serum
This eye serum by RoC is meant to be applied in small dots around the eye area and smoothed with fingers. This product will visibly reduce the appearance of crows feet, dark circles, and puffiness around the eye area. As you can the see the serum is a light and smooth consistency, absorbed easily through skin. Honestly I’ve been using this for almost 3 months and I love it! No breakouts, no dryness, honestly My eyes feel hydrated after applying. I was gifted this serum and it’s just nice to put on before moisturizer. I think this product is worth it, definitely a make up bag staple. RoC - Retinol Correxion Sensitive Eye Cream

BEAKEY - BB5 Sponge Set These makeup sponges are my absolute favorite and have completely surpassed the beauty blender in every way. First and foremost you can get a package of 5 of these for $8.99 which is insane considering a single beauty blender retails for $20! Also you know these are good with a 4.5 star rating with nearly 10k reviews! They are super soft and aren’t too dense and bounce just right. I haven’t had any problems with these soaking up too much product and they clean up like a dream! I use a little soap and water and they are like new. They don’t fall apart and last a decent amount of time before needing to replace! If you haven’t tried these yet I’m not sure what you’re waiting for!

NYX Palette Daily Makeup💋
A daily eye makeup look tutorial with NYX - Ultimate Shadow Palette Featuring 16 warm hues with satin, shimmery and metallic finishes, this palette really packs a punch. Each shade boasts a rich and creamy formula that is highly-pigmented and offers some serious color pay-off. While you could use the first two rows to create a subtle, pinky-silver eye look, I love the warm and wintery tones of the bottom two rows. So, with that in mind, here’s a step-by-step guide to creating a warm smokey eye using your NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette Insider Tip: To prevent any fallout from spoiling your foundation, I’d recommend creating your eye look before doing your base. Prepare before eyeshadow: Apply concealer to your whole eye area, working across the lid and up to your eyebrow arch. Don’t forget to conceal under your eyes too. Step 1: Using a large fluffy blending brush, sweep the brown-pink shade (A) over your whole lid to set your concealer and add a subtle touch of color, the same as your lower lash line. Step 2: With a slightly smaller fluffy brush, apply the dark reddish-brown color (B) across your eyelid, working from the socket and gently buffing it out forward. Then apply the same color to the bottom two-thirds of your lower lash line and blend it naturally. Step 3: Use a flat eyeshadow brush to pack the pink-orange color (C) onto the outer third of your eyelid. Then, using a small and fluffy blending brush, buff it inwards for a triangle-shaped area. Step 4: Use a flat eyeshadow brush to pack the shiny golden hue (D) across the first two-thirds of your lid. Then, using a small and fluffy blending brush, buff it out towards the remaining third. Step 5: Apply the deep dark reddish-brown (E) to your upper and lower lash line for the bottom two-thirds area, then gently blend them together. Step 6: Apply the shiny champaign hue (F) to highlight your inner ridge and the corner of the eye. Then gently blend it towards to the first-thirds of your lower lash line. Step 7: Don't forget to apply eyeliner according to your eye shape and add a few coats of mascara to finish off the look. Step 8: Admire the finished look! Follow the eight simple steps above and you’ll have a warm smokey eye in no time. Of course, you can create so many other looks using your NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette.

The best toner of 2019?
I put a question mark in the heading but there’s no doubt - this is my favourite toner of last year. Niacinamide and I had a love affair in general in 2019, but this product specifically really knocked it out of the park. It helps minimize my pores and refine my skin texture while keeping new blemishes at bay as well as evens out my overall complexion. It’s also full of ingredients like soothing licorice, arbutin to help with hyperpigmentation and vitamin C for antioxidant protection and brightening. I love the texture of this baby - it’s thicker and more viscous than water but not heavy or sticky at all. Other products layer well over top too! Packaging is stellar. I love the label design and the glass bottles. They do a great job, especially considering their awesome affordable price point.

A tropical addition to your hair routine
This spray is incredibly fragrant in the best way. I haven’t noticed any benefits from this product yet, but the scent alone keeps me coming back. If you’re sensitive to fragrances, I’d recommend against this!

Comparing popular Tarte concealers
I’ve tried every product and concealer under the sun when it comes to banishing my dark circles, and Shape tape is a bit of a HG to the beauty community so I couldn’t wait to finally find a product that solved all my problems tarte - Shape Tape Concealer Unfortunately shape tape wasn’t it. The formula is on the drier side which I had already heard before using it, that’s not the part that bothered me. But this concealer conceals nothing. Honestly I feel like it didn’t even make a dent in the circles under my eyes. Not only is it one of the most sheer concealers I’ve ever used but the dryness and difficulty to spread and layer make this product a major flop. Luckily I did find my absolute favorite, forever a repurchase concealer, it being; tarte - Maracuja Creaseless Undereye Concealer Just wow. This concealer is THICK in the best way possible. It’s creamy, it’s easy to blend, it’s easy to layer and best of all of conceals SO well! It’s truly a gift on earth to us dark circle girls. My disclaimer, no matter how good a concealer is I still always use a color correction product as a first step and in the photos pictured above I did NOT do that step for the purpose of showing the differences in concealers.
