Price Doesn’t Matter (Except That It Does)

avatar
Skinsitive
Pause: price doesn’t matter in that it doesn’t innately affect the quality of the product. I used a (thankfully gifted) $160+ cult favourite serum and was comically underwhelmed with how horrible it smelled, how unpleasant the texture was, and how irritated my skin was despite the fact that I had used vitamin c serums just as strong previously. And then I look at a community-renowned $8 niacinamide serum that is, by all accounts, a decent serum... that my skin hated and I detested due to the tacky texture. I’ve used, and loved, skincare that ranges in price from $6-$300+, some gifted and some purchased with my own money. I’ve opted for lovely $15 moisturizers when I couldn’t afford my $60 favourites. I’ve paid extra for specific ingredients that are a bit more pricy. What I’ve Learned? Price means little to how my skin will like it. But price still matters. If your budget for skincare is small, your options similarly size down. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t good skincare in your budget. Of course, opt for prescription if you can afford it- 1% retinol from the most expensive brand can’t compare to a basic 0.0125% tretinoin prescription cream. Look at your skin, do a bit of research, and see where in your routine that you can splurge a bit, or where you can go strictly utilitarian. If you have access to CVS, they have 40% off coupons regularly and CeraVe is bangin’. If you’re international, check out the go-to The Ordinary who ships internationally, or go through CultBeauty to get ahold of similarly affordable brands like Versed and The Inkey List 💰 In the end, price really only matters in that it affects what brands you opt for and how large your routine is. You don’t need $110 moisturizers or $120 exfoliants, though they often offer better textures and more well-rounded formulas. Just cleanse, moisturize, and slap on some sunscreen, and you’ve got your bases covered 💕

dejaniravuLove this. I was recently on a club house chat and they were talking about how skin care is a luxury. I’d never thought about it that way as I see it as being essential, but it’s totally a luxury

Update: my acne has reduced A LOT
I’ve been a bit MIA since my last post but here is the progress of my acne. If I were to pinpoint the main reasons why, then it’s these reasons: What I did wrong: - experimenting and using alot of different products. I was in a phase where I loved trying new products and my skin did not like that I was switching products all the time. - I did not spot test new products - overloaded my skin with many products. I don’t know who needs to hear this but a 10 step routine is NOT for acne prone skin. - drank little water each day - used harsh products without re-balancing my skin with soothing products - masked almost everyday What I did to improve it: - reduce the number of products going on my skin. I now use only a max of 3 products in the morning and 5 products at night. - drank 2 litres of water every day - used a soothing pH-balanced toner - used a GENTLE chemical exfoliant - used retinol regularly - masked only every 2-3 days Some products I use in my daily routine that really helped my skin: PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator as an all-over exfoliant PAULA'S CHOICE - BHA 9 Treatment as a spot treatment The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% to fade acne scars Products that I use every 2-3 days that helped my skin: AZCLEAR - Medicated Lotion (mixed with Niacinamide) to fade acne scars DRUNK ELEPHANT - A-Passioni Retinol Cream to bring out new baby skin ANDALOU NATURALS - CannaCell Glow Mask as a gentle exfoliating mask If you are going through something similar just know to take it SLOWLY. The skin is going through trauma and it is not an overnight success. If you have any questions I’m happy to answer.

Face Picking Relapse & How I’m Moving Forward
So.. it happened. I relapsed and started picking my face again for the umpteenth time. I won’t lie, relapsing on a bad behavior like skin-picking sucks! I definitely beat myself up over it and even gave up entirely on stopping for a few weeks. That is, until I realized that feeling bad about myself and actively allowing myself to pick were absolutely never going to help me stop. The only way to stop is to be kind to myself and try again. Now, I’m choosing not to focus on my relapse or the fact that I was only able to stop for a few days. It’s happened many times before and it will surely happen again. After all, picking is a compulsion, and usually not a conscious choice. In addition to my other “stop picking” behaviors mentioned in my last post , here’s what I’ve been doing since my little revelation: Stopped keeping a tally of “days without picking”I realized I was way too hyper focused on the number of days I could go without picking and it was actually making me think about picking more. If I catch myself picking I stop and move on, I’m basically not making myself feel shame or guilt anymore. This has helped me significantly cut down on picking Started seeing a therapist. I’ve wanted to try therapy for years and finally gathered the courage to do it! My therapist has made it clear that this is a really tough thing to stop but she has been helping me identify why I pick which is something I had never given any thought to. This is helping me to try to find what helps me not pick and behaviors I can do when I feel that “urge”. Even if this doesn’t help me stop picking, it’s been so beneficial to my mental health already. Changed my thinking I’ve been reminding myself that picking is like hitting the “un-do” button on my routine that I’ve worked really hard to develope. My active acne is staying away and the urge to pick lessens significantly when I don’t have any scabs or spots to pick at. Some other things that have really been helping with my skin: DRUNK ELEPHANT - A-Passioni Retinol Cream PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator Krave - Oat So Simple Water Cream Krave - Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream *HG🙌🏼 HERO COSMETICS - Rescue Balm -this stuff seems to heal spots I pick at in hours! I put it on immediately after picking and before bed. Seriously helps cut down on scabs to pick at. I’ve also started to eat more anti-inflammatory food (currently obsessing over blueberries). It may or may not be a placebo effect but I swear my skin has been way less inflamed! First picture is when I “gave up”and second picture is my skin today. I still have a ways to go but I feel like I’m finally making progress.

UPDATE: I Quit Differin
This is a long overdue skincare update but I have quit Differin because it started to strip my skin barrier, and I kept breaking out even after applying the gel. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel -I’m about to run out of this cleanser and I’m thinking about replacing it with a more moisturizing cleanser from the same brand. This cleanser is excellent but I wish it was a bit more effective PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator -This has been a little too gentle on my skin so I wasn’t able to experience a huge difference after using this product The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 5% + HA -This serum is gentle on my skin and I have noticed an improvement in my skin’s tone VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream -I came back to this moisturizer to give it a second chance and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is better for people with very oily skin and I have combination skin PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ -This product is a chef’s kiss. It is gentle, hydrating, and very effective at protecting your skin from the sun I am still breaking out but I’m not sure which route to take. I’ve been exfoliating quite a lot and I’m thinking about going the other path and restoring the hell out of my skin. Any recommendations to restore my skin’s barrier and to increase collagen as well as clearing out my pimples and acne scars would be much appreciated!

Shelfie 💕💕
I am a huge skincare lover and love to try out ingredients and brands. Check out my collection and my favourite brands and products. Favourite brands: Versed: this is a brand that I have tried many products and they have worked well for me. This is a drug store brand that is mid range. It is cruelty free and eco conscience, going so far as to state the percentage of usage of recycled material and having recycling instructions on their website. My holy grails are VERSED - PHOTOS, PLEASE BRIGHTENING TIGHTENING MASK and VERSED - Doctor's Visit The ordinary: this is a great brand as it is super affordable and it’s cruelty free. The way I like to benefit from this brand is to try out ingredients to see what works for my skin, their serums are my favourite. My holy grail is The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% The Inkey lists: this brand is similar to the ordinary but I think some of their formulas are better. They focus on ingredients that allow me to find the best ingredients for my skin, they are also cruelty free. My holy grail isTHE inkey LIST - Q10 Antioxidant Serum Cosrx:this brand was my introduction to K-beauty and they are very accessible through Amazon ( also cruelty free). They focus on the primary ingredient that is either natural or chemical. My holy grails are COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and #Cosrx - Full Fit Propolis Light Ampoule[products]#[FiveStars] Brands with 1-2 favourite products: First aid beauty: this brand focuses on healing the skin with the incorporation of oats which are amazing. My holy grail isFIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration Glossier: this is a brand started by a beauty editor and are all very aesthetically pleasing and gentle on the skin (cruelty free). My holy grail is Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser Paula’s Choice: this is a great brand that is science driven (cruelty free). My holy grail isPAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 Pyunkang Yul: this is a K-beauty brand that started in a medical clinic and focus on short ingredient lists. My holy grail isPyunkang Yul - Essence Toner Pixi: this is an English brand that has lots of products and lines to target different issues (cruelty free). My holy grail is pixi - Hydrating Milky Mist The body shop: the body shop is a very established brand that has tons of products (cruelty free), I love their masks in particular. My holy grail isTHE BODY SHOP - Tea Tree Face Mask Niod: this brand has the same parent company as the ordinary but it is the more expensive and technologically advanced. I love that they are pushing the bounds of skincare (cruelty free). My holy grail is NIOD - Modulating Glucosides

CERAVE HYDRATING GEL CLEANSER REVIEW! 💚
Hi! 👋 I am going to be talking about my overall experience with this cleanser from Cerave! CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser INFO: This is recommended for Normal to dry skin! Though, I would recommend it for all skin types. For reference, I have combination skin! I have areas of dry patches and oily areas on my skin! This cleanser can be found at Target, Ulta, Walmart, and Amazon! The cleanser is $14 USD for 12oz! They offer a trail size of 3oz which is great if you want to try it out! REVIEW: This was recommended by my dermatologist, when I had severe acne. My overall experience with this product is great, it left my skin hydrated after washing it off (does not strip the skin). This is a gel cleanser, so it does not foam (create bubbles). Some people say that the product did not cleanse their skin well enough or that it caused them to get breakouts. I use it also as a double cleanser, so I use it twice in a row to get off makeup. This didn’t happen to me, but just another reason to try the trial size! Highly recommend! thanks for reading! Comment your experience with this product! Follow me for more! :)

Differin progress... is this a purge or what?
Sorry this is gross.. I know my skin isn’t pretty right now. Today marks the 4th week I’ve been on DIFFERIN - 0.1% Adapalene Acne Treatment Gel Pump and also my new birth control (yaz). I have literally never, EVER seen my skin this awful and angry. Should I stick it out until the and of 12 weeks? Does this look like a purge or just a flat out breakout?! I’m freaking out.. I don’t even want to go outside looking like this. I’m also using Cetaphil - Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream am and pm, and cleansing with CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser . Not looking to add any more products. Sometimes I use a hydrating toner. The dryness and peeling has subsided but the pimples do hurt, my cheeks are tender to the touch and sometimes itchy but that has gotten better over time also. Please help!!!!! EDIT: i just bought the DIFFERIN - Daily Deep Cleanser BPO 5%, Neutrogena - On-the-Spot Acne Treatmentand HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original for Madewellto hopefully combat the horrible breakouts pictured above. just praying it doesnt over dry my skin.

A quick Cheat guide to choosing the right Acid ✨
I find this Flowchart to be a cheat guide to start with your Chemical exfoliation routin. 😊✨ Exfoliation is one of the steps in your skin care routine that can elevate your current routine from good to great. So often I find my skin starting to feel a little bit dull, and I realize that I have been leaving out exfoliation. When I wake up after a night that I have applied a chemical exfoliant, (I really like The Ordinary’s 7% Glycolic Acid, Sunday Riley's Good Genes) The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes All in One Lactic Acid Treatment I notice my skin has a much more rested and fresh look. Also, my skin has that 'Glass skin' look and feel. My textural irregularities get even and my skin tone is evened out! Some of the skin concerns that exfoliation is great for targeting include: 🌻Enlarged pores 🌻Uneven skin tone/Hyperpigmentation 🌻Rough skin texture 🌻Fine lines So… back to the big question: ✨What does exfoliate mean? Skin is consistently renewing its cells, by shedding its surface layer. When dead skin cells are flushed away and a fresh layer of cells comes to the surface, the new layer is younger and smoother in appearance. This process is frequent in younger skin, however slows with age. The process of exfoliating is advancing the process of removing dead skin cells and revealing the fresh new layer of healthy skin either physically or chemically. Physical exfoliators are granular, using natural beads or crystals that are rubbed on the skin, sloughing away the dead cells on the top layer of skin. Chemical exfoliants work by targeting the bonds between cells, breaking these bonds, allowing the dead skin cells to break away. Chemical exfoliation is able to penetrate deeper into the skin, targeting congestion that is associated with clogged pores leading to acne. In short exfoliation simply means to shed away dead skin cells with the help of a product. Want to know which exfoliating acids are best for your skin? Follow through the flowchart in Image above to figure out which is best for you! Here are some options/products I love and you can choose from: The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes All in One Lactic Acid Treatment The Ordinary - Mandelic Acid 10% + HA NATURIUM - BHA Liquid Exfoliant 2% The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque THE inkey LIST - Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) Gentle Exfoliating Toner TULA SKINCARE - Pro-Glycolic 10% Resurfacing Toner Allies of Skin - Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum

My Favourite Serums✨
My skin is sensitive, redness-prone, normal-dry depending on the season, and I have some rosacea on my cheeks. These 4 serums have made a big difference in the texture and overall appearance + health of my skin. I’m going to tell you a little bit about each of them below! • SKINCEUTICALS - Serum 10 Aox+ - I’m sure you’ve heard of the cult favourite Skinceuticals vitamin c serum and this version is just as effective, but for sensitive skin. It has a water-like consistency and sinks into the skin right away. I have definitely found that this has helped to brighten and even my skin tone. I really love this vitamin c and would definitely recommend it (even though it’s pricey). • Corpa Flora - Antidote 03 - Redness Relief - this serum has more of an oil-like consistency and a light floral scent to it that I just love. I have found that when I am consistent with this serum it definitely decreases the redness I have in my cheeks due to rosacea. I typically mix a pump of this with a pump of their Corpa Flora - Antidote HB5 Hydration and it’s the perfect hydrating + soothing cocktail! For anyone with sensitive, redness-prone skin like me, this duo is a must have to combat that! • Allies of Skin - Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum - I didn’t know what to expect from this serum but it has blown me away. I often have texture on my cheeks and also get hormonal breakouts and this serum does an amazing job at fighting both of them. I always notice a difference in my skin the next morning when I use this at night! My favourite way to use it is to mix a pump of this with a pump of the Allies of Skin - Triple Hyaluronic Antioxidant Hydration Serum (if you can’t tell, I love mixing serums to create the perfect skincare concoction). Both of these products are pricey, if you’re going to splurge on one, make it the Mandelic! • CAUDALIE - Vinoperfect Radiance Serum The Brightening Solution - this one is a favourite in the skincare world and for good reason. The overall brightening and tone-correcting effect this serum has is amazing. I love the clean scent it has and the milky, smooth texture. It sinks into the skin quickly and isn’t sticky or tacky. I wouldn’t say this is a must-have compared to the others listed here, but if you’re a product junkie like me it’s definitely worth having in your collection. #CheriePartner

getting off makeup and clear skin with rosacea!
okay... so I know I've posted this before, and Cherie is (devastatingly) closing down, but I thought I'd share one last post. This really works. one is a prescription and there are a couple items missing, so I'll add them to the pictures. Here is the order they say to put on skincare (as depicted) 1) makeup remover/wash (I use Queen Helene cold cream that I SWEAR by, sometimes BURT’S BEES - BURT‘S BEES Sensitive Facial Cleanser ) 2) Facewash/second face wash (I use DERMA•E - Sensitive Skin Cleanser and Joeseph anti Acne soap 10% sulfur) 3) Toner (I use THAYERS - Rose Petal Facial Toner ) 4) Serums (I use a few... my prescription Amzeeq, mostly The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% , and DERMA•E - Blue Light Shield Concentrated Serum ) 5) Spot Treatments (Murad - Invisiscar Resurfacing Treatment , tea tree oil when needed) 6) Eye Cream (not pictured - DERMA•E - Firming DMAE Eye Lift Cream ) 7) Moisturizer (2 different kinds depending on how dry I am- pictured: Alba Botanica Aloe Green tea moisturizer, not pictured: skinfix - Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream ) 8) Retinol: Now, because I have rosacea, I use a retinol alternative. The best one for sensitive skin I found is The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion use at night only) 9) Face Oil: HEAR ME OUT: If you have oily skin, it's not the WORST thing to use an oil. As a matter of fact, it may work well. BEST ONE BY FAR IS ROSEHIP OIL. I can't tell you how amazing it is The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil , and JOSIE MARAN - Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment during the day) wear sunscreen during the day, and put it in place of retinol. I use Glossier. - Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen it's a great light moisturizer, too. And at night in the winter if it's super dry, I'll put petroleum jelly around the corners of my eyes and lips. The results don't lie, Cherie babes (: comment below I'd you know of a better eye cream.

Anti-Aging for Sensitive Skin
Now most people think of anti aging and grab products with a high amount of active ingredients in them to ensure they're getting the maximum amount of benefits The reality is that too many actives normally result in a damaged skin barrier that can only cause your skin to look further aged and fragile. For this reason, it's important to give actives a break and focus on soothing and gentle ingredients that will help sensitive skin looking youthful and fresh. Here are 2 examples of exceptional products that are perfect for gentle anti aging. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum I am fully satisfied with how nourished and hydrated my skin feels after putting this on. Some of the key ingredients include chia and flaxseed oils for those rich Omega fatty acids, which do wonders for your skin. This is also followed by olive oil and a bunch of ceramides. Perfect for a compromised barrier or overall sensitivity FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream Also very impressed with this product. The perfect nighttime emollient cream to leave your skin feeling buttery soft and plump the next day. The formula contains shea butter, oatmeal, jojoba esters and peptides for the perfect overnight repair. I would 100% recommend these for people with sensitive skin, dry skin, or damaged skin. I will certainly be repurchasing these as well.

It’s empty and...it’s worth it!
Hiya! I was lucky enough to receive this elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 from a giveaway through@cherie(thank you 🥰🥰). It actually lasted me way longer than I thought it would and... I miss it. The good: + Feels like a very light-weight moisturizer + Works well with all types of makeup on top (no pilling) + Easy to reapply and absolutely no white cast + Great packaging, I love the pump + Definitely plays well with active acne and general acne prone skin + Absolutely zero skin irritation, it feels very very gentle + Doesn’t leave skin oily or too shiny The not so good: - It’s actually kind of hard to find... so to buy this I need to either order online or pick up from a dermatologist. It’s not a super affordable sunscreen, but I’m okay to invest a little bit more money in sunscreen. And this also feels like it’s worth the price tag. I’m currently working on another bottle of sunscreen but once that’s done I’m likely going to be going back this one. If I can find it 🙈 Ps I have combo, acne prone skin

Face update
Ok guys if you been following me my bumps are starting to dry up and now I have dark spots. My right side is completely healed and the left is my trouble side. After seeing my dermatologist for my follow up appointment she went up on the dose of the retinoid I use at night. If you are wondering my routine this is what I'm using. Also go look at my old pics to see where I started from. Neutrogena - Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask I love this as it dries out my bumps LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser I use this at night and love how it's super light CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion light way and keeps face moisturizer at night elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 I use the tinted version now great for black girls only in the morning and I do two fingers when I apply it The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I just started using it super light weight. I started as a suggestion to help purging. Haven't told my dermatologist I'm using it but it has made the bumps on the right side calm down so so far so good. I'll update this to five stars after I have enough data to support if it really works.CeraVe - Healing Ointment I use when I experience dryness from the winter. A lot goes a long way .

Review my routine (dry/sensitive skin)
Morning cleanser: I normally wash my face with warm water in the morning because my skin is so dry. But LA has been getting pretty hot lately so I started using Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser in the morning. It smells pretty nice and gets the job done. It's very gentle as well. mousturizer: I wrote about CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin a while back and it's still one of my favorites! The packaging is not ideal but I love its whipped cream texture. It's very light but also moisturizing. I've been in love with this cream! 🥰 sunscreen: I recently discovered elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 I prefer physical sunscreen because it's less stimulating and safer for sensitive skin. This sunscreen meets all of my requirements- it's light, moisturizing, safe for sensitive skin, and doesn't give this icky oily feel. Night cleanser: I have been a big fan of boscia - Purifying Cleansing Gel it's amino acid-based and smells AMAZING! I normally avoid fragrance in skincare products but since face wash only stays on your skin for a few seconds it should be fine :) I've been using this cleanser for years. 😍 toner: I got COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid as a sample after I ran out of my last bottle of PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator I'd like to apply it in my t-zone to minimize pores. I'm not very familiar with COSRX. But the fact that their label doesn't explicitly say BHA% kind of bothers me. serum: right now I'm rotating between 3 products 1. The Ordinary - ''Buffet'' 2. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 3. SkinMedica - LYTERA 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum(the product I'm using has been discontinued and this is the upgraded version) Out of the three, my favorite is skinmedica. I know it's pricey, but after several weeks my dark spots actually started fading and no other beauty products have done that for me. If you know a good dupe for this, please let me know! I'm also looking for a good summer face mask - what do you recommend?

Review my routine for... redness 😚😚
Review my routine for... redness 😚😚
My main skin concern is redness (maybe mild rosacea?) on my cheeks and t-zone. It always looks like I am blushing and makes my face feel hot, so it is something I am always trying to solve! The two main redness-reducing products I use are the Niacinamide and EUK 134. The rest of the products I have included here are those that are just gentle and soothing in general. Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser : This cleanser is so gentle on my skin and never leaves my skin feeling tight. It is perfect for my sensitive skin. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% : I was recommended this product by @leena.tabajaand@jane_brownto help even my skin tone! After doing some research, I found out that this is great for getting rid of dark spots, soothing redness AND decongesting pores, so I was sold! I have been using this in combination with the EUK serum for 2-3 weeks, and it has honestly made a world of a difference. I use this product in the morning so that I can still use my Tatcha Violet-C serum at night. Apparently Niacinamide can negate the effects of Vitamin C, so they always need to be used at alternating times. Kate Somerville - Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream : This is a perfect lightweight moisturizer for summertime. It is gentle and gets the job done! COOLA - Full Spectrum 360° Sun Silk Drops Organic Face Sunscreen SPF 30 : Always have to have SPF as part of the routine! This is the one I am currently using. It is lightweight but does have a pretty strong sunscreen smell. But it definitely gets the job done. With sensitive skin like mine, you should always use SPF. TATCHA - Violet-C Brightening Serum 20% Vitamin C + 10% AHA : I use this product at night to help even out my skin tone and give my skin a boost of antioxidants. It is a bit overpriced. I definitely enjoy using it, but definitely won’t repurchase. PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator : Since I have sensitive skin, I need to use a very gentle exfoliant. This leave-on exfoliant always leaves my skin feeling soothed and not stripped. This is a holy grail product that I will purchase again and again! The Ordinary - EUK 134 0.1% : This serum has a long scientific explanation of why it works, but basically it is designed specifically to soothe redness! It feels more like an oil than a serum and burned the first couple of times I used it, but my skin got used to it fairly quickly. Like I mentioned above, I use this at night to go along with my Niacinamide. The two together are really soothing my redness, and these are the only products I have ever used that do. And since they are both by The Ordinary, they are both under $10. So… rate my routine!! 🤗🤗🤗

My Current Extra AF Morning Routine✨
My Current Extra AF Morning Routine✨
A lot of products, I know. But I’ve found a routine that works for me! I currently alternate days between PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster and The Ordinary - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% but everything else I’ve been using daily. Why do I use two moisturizers? Let me explain. When I first started my skincare journey, I was battling a pretty persistent case of fungal acne on my forehead. It wasn’t until I stopped using an oil cleanser and switched moisturizers that the acne stopped. I’ve found that FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream helps keep my forehead hydrated without causing it to get too oily, which had been part of the problem. It also is free of many of the esters and omega fatty acids that can normally trigger fungal acne breakouts. Why not use it on my whole face then? Well, I’ve got combo skin, and my cheeks tend to dry up pretty quick. I’m obsessed with the texture of DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream and it’s been my favorite ever since I received a sample from Sephora about a year ago. I honestly couldn’t bear the thought of saying goodbye. Currently been testing out the COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser because I ran out of my all time favorite YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser and I’ve got a lot of thoughts. Post coming soon. Hope you’re all having a good Monday and surviving all the bullish*t🌈 If you need a friend, I’m here! Let’s remember to be good to one another (and ourselves) through this!!!

Routine for Combo to Oily Skin
Routine for Combo to Oily Skin
This is for the user@jlynn! Just remember these products might not work for you because everyone has different skin! I might give you two options for a skincare step/product. It takes 8-12 weeks to see the full results of this routine. This the order you should apply it in. Ask any questions in the comments! Morning Routine: CeraVe - SA Smoothing Cleanser- this is a salicylic cleanser that will help with acne! The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% OR PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster- this reduces oils and helps with acne, blackheads, pores, dullness, etc. put 1-4 drops on your fingers and pat/rub in. patch test before use. both of these products do the same thing but some people are sensitive to the zinc in The Ordinary serum so I just wanted to give two options! i personally use The Ordinary Niacinamide because it works for me. CeraVe - Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 For Normal To Oily Skin OR YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream- the CeraVe Cream is inexpensive and has spf in it so you don’t have to buy sunscreen separately. also has niacinamide and zinc in it which helps with acne. this version is extra light but they do have the same thing except slightly thicker. the only thing is that it isn’t vegan or cruelty-free (all the other products are). then the Superfood Air-Whip Cream. this is formulated specifically for combo to oily skin! it hydrates but isn’t super thick. it is also formulated with hyaluronic acid which is a great ingredient that hydrates without making your skin oily. Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40- this is if you choose a moisturizer that doesn’t already have spf in it!! this sunscreen is lightweight and won’t leave you feeling greasy. Night Time Routine: YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser- this goes deep into your pores so it is great for acne! i absolutely love it PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator- great for acne, blackheads, and pores. patch test before use. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream OR CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion- same two options as before except the CeraVe one does not have SPF in it now and isn’t as lightweight. Other: The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution- this is great for oily skin, acne, blackheads, texture, etc. you can use this every night but since it is very strong I would recommend only using about 2-3 times a week. when you use it, use it at night and not in the morning! use it after cleansing but before serums. patch test before use Krave - Great Barrier Relief- use this whenever your skin is feeling irritated or is red! it will give you relief and restore your barriers. you can use this as a light moisturizer or you can apply it like a serum with moisturizer on top. Note: If you use this routine for three months or so and literally nothing changes then I recommend just washing your face once a day with the SuperFood Cleanser and then after using the Krave Great Barrier Relief and a light moisturizer and that’s it. Because sometimes your face just needs a bit of a break and you need to restore your barriers. But that’s if it’s been months and nothing seems to work! I hope this routine will work for you and you will end up liking some of these products!

The result to an effective skin care routine!
The result to an effective skin care routine!
A year ago, I started being lazy and was not following my skin care routine. To give a little background about me, I’m a nurse who does shift work, so on days where I come off from a night shift, I would shower and only rinsed my face with water without using a cleanser. I then would apply my night cream and go to sleep. Fast forward, I started developing this tiny little bumps all over my face, occasional break out, hyperpigmentation and uneven texture. I would exfoliate at times but became inconsistent with it so It didn’t really clear up my skin. Back in March of this year, I became more frustrated as it was taking longer for me to clear up my skin and these tiny little bumps kept coming back (no they were not fungal acne as they were bigger in size and reddened)so I decided to change up my skin care products and made up a routine similar to the ones I see on my social media platform. SKIN TYPE Normal- Dry Combination Skin, Sensitive Morning Routine - Gentle Cleanser CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin - Vit C pura d'or - 20% Vitamin C Serum - Niacinamide The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - HA depending on my mood. I use different kinds . HADALABO - Gokujyun Premium Lotion or COSRX - Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence - Moisturizer if I feel like my face needs extra hydration otherwise I would skip this part CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin or LA ROCHE-POSAY - Lipikar Balm AP + Body Cream - SUNSCREEN!! LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50 or LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV SPF 30 NIGHT ROUTINE - Double Cleanse heimish - Heimish All Clean Balm or The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser followed by CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin - Toner COSRX - AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner or PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator - If I am not using any of the toners mentioned above, then I would use this The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA On the nights I use retinol, I don’t use any chemical exfoliants at all PAULA'S CHOICE - Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment, 30ml - Moisturizer CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin -Facial Oil The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Squalane or DERMA•E - Rejuvenating Sage & Lavender Face Oil This was my routine for 4 months. And now of course I’ve changed up few things in my routine. All of these products helped cleared up my skin issues. As you can see, my face is looking much better!!

My short PM routine that brings results!
My short PM routine that brings results!
In my long, and sometimes painful, skin care journey to clear skin... I have found that my skin really thrives when I keep my routines SIMPLE. I have been trying to do shorter routines lately, but short doesn’t have to mean that you sacrifice RESULTS. Here are my 4 products that I chose to really deliver bright, happy, soothed, and hydrated clear skin by morning. Step one: the allies of skin molecular silk amino hydrating cleanser. This cleanser is unlike any other that I have tried. It has a beautiful bright orange color, super jelly thick texture that lathers up so nicely, and this sleek silver packaging. My ONLY gripe about this product is that the lid is not attached in the packaging and it very difficult to twist on and off with wet hands; I wish it was a flip top (attached). Other than that, this product has beautiful ingredients, silicone and fragrance free, that really brightens your skin and keeps it bouncy + hydrated. It also removes makeup like a dream if you use on dry skin, emulsify with water, and then rinse clean. I like to use it as my second cleanse on damp skin, instead. It’s great for all skin types! Step Two: the allies of skin mandelic pigmentation corrector night serum. This is the most gentle acid serum that I have ever used! I can’t believe that this can be gentle yet SO effective, it eliminates all congestion and acne from my skin in just a few uses. I cannot rave about this enough! It has a great functional packaging that twists up and dispenses the perfect amount. It does have a yellow-milky texture that spreads easily onto the skin. On more sensitive skin types, such as myself, it may tingle a little bit, but mandelic acid is one of the gentler acids! I like to apply this right onto freshly cleansed skin, at night, and I use this every other evening or every night. I highly recommend this for anyone suffering with acne and congestion! Step Three: Krave beauty’s great barrier relief serum. This is the perfect serum to keep your skin happy, bouncy, moisturized, and SOOTHED. It has a wonderful blend of ingredients, including Tamanu oil that brightens acne scars, and ceramides to keep your moisture barrier in tact! I love the mint green color of this serum, and how easily its thin texture glides onto the skin. I usually use this after my night serum to really lock everything in. Perfect for people who are using acids in their routines and/or lives in a dry harsh climate! Step four: Drunk Elephant’s virgin marula oil. Last in my routines is always an oil. Facial oils are great for keeping everything locked down on your skin. It usually helps to avoid trans epidermal water loss. For my dehydrated skin, it is a must! THe DE marula oil is so silky in texture and you only need 2-3 drops, because a little goes a long way. I highly recommend this one, but there is certainly cheaper facial oils on the market.
