Skincare 101: the Basics

Skinsitive
Three products are all you really need to care for your skin. Well, maybe not *you* specifically, but let’s be frank: most people don’t *need* a twelve-step routine to take care of their skin. If you’re starting off in skincare, your financial situation has changed, or your skin has been flaring with redness/flaking/breakouts, opt for a super simple routine for a month or two to see how your skin does without the extra frills. It may surprise you how little you need to keep your skin happy! • 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿: Cleanse with water in the morning, or opt for a hydrating cleanser if you’re oily, workout, or just enjoy cleansing often. Double-cleanse with that hydrating cleanser (and/or an oil-based balm) in the evening, or opt for a single cleanse with a gel or foaming cleanser. My milky faves are CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser
and HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash
, while my deep-cleansing faves are CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser
and PAULA'S CHOICE - RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser
. • 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿: Moisturize morning and night, regardless of your skin type! Look for products with ceramides and fatty acids to nourish the skin barrier. If your skin is more oily, opt for lightweight moisturizers like gels and lotions. If your skin is dry, creams and balms are going to be better for binding hydration and moisture to your skin. My faves for oily skin? CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion
, VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream
, and PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizer
. My dry skin faves are NATURIUM - Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture Cream
, THE inkey LIST - Peptide Moisturizer
, and DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream
. • 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: The most important step! Sunscreen is the ultimate anti-aging product, so reapply every two hours y’all. My main loves for all skin types are PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50
and elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46
. Those with dry skin, I’ve been enjoying CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30
, though paler folks may prefer DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30
. What’s your fave step? What extra step would you add in that’s not featured here? 👀 Keep up with the tag #Skincare101 to follow along this guide I’ll be posting to cover some basic concepts in skincare!

UPDATE: I Quit Differin
This is a long overdue skincare update but I have quit Differin because it started to strip my skin barrier, and I kept breaking out even after applying the gel. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel -I’m about to run out of this cleanser and I’m thinking about replacing it with a more moisturizing cleanser from the same brand. This cleanser is excellent but I wish it was a bit more effective PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator -This has been a little too gentle on my skin so I wasn’t able to experience a huge difference after using this product The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 5% + HA -This serum is gentle on my skin and I have noticed an improvement in my skin’s tone VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream -I came back to this moisturizer to give it a second chance and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is better for people with very oily skin and I have combination skin PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ -This product is a chef’s kiss. It is gentle, hydrating, and very effective at protecting your skin from the sun I am still breaking out but I’m not sure which route to take. I’ve been exfoliating quite a lot and I’m thinking about going the other path and restoring the hell out of my skin. Any recommendations to restore my skin’s barrier and to increase collagen as well as clearing out my pimples and acne scars would be much appreciated!

Shelfie 💕💕
I am a huge skincare lover and love to try out ingredients and brands. Check out my collection and my favourite brands and products. Favourite brands: Versed: this is a brand that I have tried many products and they have worked well for me. This is a drug store brand that is mid range. It is cruelty free and eco conscience, going so far as to state the percentage of usage of recycled material and having recycling instructions on their website. My holy grails are VERSED - PHOTOS, PLEASE BRIGHTENING TIGHTENING MASK and VERSED - Doctor's Visit The ordinary: this is a great brand as it is super affordable and it’s cruelty free. The way I like to benefit from this brand is to try out ingredients to see what works for my skin, their serums are my favourite. My holy grail is The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% The Inkey lists: this brand is similar to the ordinary but I think some of their formulas are better. They focus on ingredients that allow me to find the best ingredients for my skin, they are also cruelty free. My holy grail isTHE inkey LIST - Q10 Antioxidant Serum Cosrx:this brand was my introduction to K-beauty and they are very accessible through Amazon ( also cruelty free). They focus on the primary ingredient that is either natural or chemical. My holy grails are COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and #Cosrx - Full Fit Propolis Light Ampoule[products]#[FiveStars] Brands with 1-2 favourite products: First aid beauty: this brand focuses on healing the skin with the incorporation of oats which are amazing. My holy grail isFIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration Glossier: this is a brand started by a beauty editor and are all very aesthetically pleasing and gentle on the skin (cruelty free). My holy grail is Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser Paula’s Choice: this is a great brand that is science driven (cruelty free). My holy grail isPAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 Pyunkang Yul: this is a K-beauty brand that started in a medical clinic and focus on short ingredient lists. My holy grail isPyunkang Yul - Essence Toner Pixi: this is an English brand that has lots of products and lines to target different issues (cruelty free). My holy grail is pixi - Hydrating Milky Mist The body shop: the body shop is a very established brand that has tons of products (cruelty free), I love their masks in particular. My holy grail isTHE BODY SHOP - Tea Tree Face Mask Niod: this brand has the same parent company as the ordinary but it is the more expensive and technologically advanced. I love that they are pushing the bounds of skincare (cruelty free). My holy grail is NIOD - Modulating Glucosides

Skin Journey
Just wanted to share my journey struggling with acne. Growing up I had perfect clear skin, no acne whatsoever, was comfortable going in public with no makeup on and I had a perfect complexion until I graduated high school and I started breaking out. I used to call it, puberty but backwards lol. I tried everything and nothing worked on me. I even tried changing my diet and stopped eating dairy and meat all in one but still, nothing changed. I even drank more water and that didn’t do anything either. I started watching Dr. Dray on YouTube about a couple years ago and I feel like she’s changed my routine. She says less is more and I swear by that. Remember: what works for me may not work for you. My skin is no where near perfect, but I’m extremely happy with how far I’ve come 🤍 Morning Routine: - (I try to wash my face once a day. Usually wash with only water in the morning) Sometimes I use Panoxyl if I’m breaking out. COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence (On damp skin) The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Neutrogena - Sensitive Skin Oil-Free Moisture CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 Night Time Routine: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc CeraVe - Resurfacing Retinol Serum CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin When I first started my skincare journey, I mainly started out small using cleanser, moisturizer and SPF then slowly incorporated these serums into my routine. I started using products with no fragrance in them and I feel like that helped my skin out a lot. Also, I highly recommend watching Dr. Dray on YouTube!

SPLOTCHY tinted mineral sunscreen. Save your 💰
Ugh🤬 I bought this sunscreen via Dr.Drays raving review. I put it on and.... ❌1. It’s a splotchy mess ❌2. It’s way too dark of a tint for my skin tone I tried reapplying in places where it didn’t cover but that made it worse. It also clumped in certain parts of my face. Just an awful product. Did anyone else experience this? 💰 For a drug store sunscreen, it’s pretty expensive ($17 + tax!). I do not recommend. Save your money. CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30

Apostrophe Update!
So far I am super happy with how my skin is looking! I started on January 6, and today is February 16. The end of my 90 days will be either at the end of March or at the beginning of April, so I’m about halfway there. The struggle for me right now is that my skin changes day to day. One day I will wake up with lots of cystic pimples, and one dat, like today, my skin will have none. I definitely still have dark marks, but I’m okay with that for now! As long as they aren’t active I am happy lol. I still seem to get acne flares on my period, which is discouraging considering Spironolactone is for hormonal acne. I’m just trying to trust the process🧐 I realized that I haven’t talked about my daily morning and night routine, so here it is! Morning: -cleanse with either PEACH & LILY - Power Calm Hydrating Gel Cleanser or CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser -moisturize with either PEACH & LILY - Matcha Pudding Antioxidant Cream or FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Minis Original & Cranberry Pomegranate -apply spf with Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 -my makeup routine At night: -remove makeup with DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil -cleanse with CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser -moisturize with FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Minis Original & Cranberry Pomegranate -apply a pea sized amount of .025% Tretinoin formula from Apostrophe - Topical Formula -and of course some Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant on my lips before bed!

Skin Transformation
January 11, 2021 My skin was not the greatest. It overall got so bad and honestly I was eating so much junk food, drinking not a lot of water and skipping out on my skin routine because I was lazy. After 2 weeks my skin has just a few pimples but overall makes me feel confident. January 24, 2021 I stayed with my regular skin routine: CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser Cetaphil - Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion Avène - CLEANANCE SUNSCREEN SPF 50+ And just trusted the process and tried to not pick on them. I am super happy with how I’ve recently managed my skin and all I needed to do was stick to what i should do and continue doing that. > I drink 1500ml+ a day >Started to workout daily, even for just a few minutes > And felt more confident I have a hard time maintaining healthy skin but I will continue improving my diet, drinking more water and etc... I got so mad but I needed to love myself no matter what because, acne just makes you even more beautiful. I have learned to love myself and I’m happy with who I’ve become throughout this 2 week journey.

CERAVE HYDRATING GEL CLEANSER REVIEW! 💚
Hi! 👋 I am going to be talking about my overall experience with this cleanser from Cerave! CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser INFO: This is recommended for Normal to dry skin! Though, I would recommend it for all skin types. For reference, I have combination skin! I have areas of dry patches and oily areas on my skin! This cleanser can be found at Target, Ulta, Walmart, and Amazon! The cleanser is $14 USD for 12oz! They offer a trail size of 3oz which is great if you want to try it out! REVIEW: This was recommended by my dermatologist, when I had severe acne. My overall experience with this product is great, it left my skin hydrated after washing it off (does not strip the skin). This is a gel cleanser, so it does not foam (create bubbles). Some people say that the product did not cleanse their skin well enough or that it caused them to get breakouts. I use it also as a double cleanser, so I use it twice in a row to get off makeup. This didn’t happen to me, but just another reason to try the trial size! Highly recommend! thanks for reading! Comment your experience with this product! Follow me for more! :)

Differin progress... is this a purge or what?
Sorry this is gross.. I know my skin isn’t pretty right now. Today marks the 4th week I’ve been on DIFFERIN - 0.1% Adapalene Acne Treatment Gel Pump and also my new birth control (yaz). I have literally never, EVER seen my skin this awful and angry. Should I stick it out until the and of 12 weeks? Does this look like a purge or just a flat out breakout?! I’m freaking out.. I don’t even want to go outside looking like this. I’m also using Cetaphil - Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream am and pm, and cleansing with CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser . Not looking to add any more products. Sometimes I use a hydrating toner. The dryness and peeling has subsided but the pimples do hurt, my cheeks are tender to the touch and sometimes itchy but that has gotten better over time also. Please help!!!!! EDIT: i just bought the DIFFERIN - Daily Deep Cleanser BPO 5%, Neutrogena - On-the-Spot Acne Treatmentand HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original for Madewellto hopefully combat the horrible breakouts pictured above. just praying it doesnt over dry my skin.

drunk elephant review with fungal acne🐘💗
as someone with fungal acne, buying the same products can be reaaallyyy boring. so this is my review of drunk elephant as someone with fungal acne!! * disclaimer, NONE of these products are fungal acne safe!! use at your own risk * DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser this cleansing balm doesn’t really emulsify when you activate it with water, leaving a really oily feeling😕 and doesn’t remove all my makeup DRUNK ELEPHANT - Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser Deluxe Sample this is a really nice gentle foaming cleanser... and thats pretty much it. DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum i love this serum! its a lovely gel serum that absorbs in quickly and is greak at oil control DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum this serum is a little tricky, i haven’t really noticed a difference in my skin in terms if brightness, i do have a bit of dark spots and they haven’t budged. not to mention this formulation is a rip off of the SKINCEUTICALS - C E Ferulic With 15% L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Serum DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream this is a thicc moisturizer that surprisingly doesn’t leave my oily skin looking greasy af. its a good moisturizer for dry combo skin! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream this moisturizer feels exactly like the lala retro... its just 8 dollars more expensive DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial Mask this mask burns so bad the first 20 seconds but then it settles down. i really havent seen a difference in my skin so DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil ive only used this oil a few times but wow it really makes your skin feel super soft and dewy DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lippe Balm DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lippe Balm i love this lip balm but its 16 dollars and the claim are completely false! in conclusion, i wont be repurchasing anymore of drunk elephant products because in reality they are just good products... nothing too special ESPECIALLY for the price. they aslo didn’t want to provide information about the percentage of black employees during the Pull Up Or Shut Up movement so yeah. their aesthetic is cute but ive grown out of this phase 😀 like and save!! xo melanie

2020 empties and new goodies!!
here are all of my 2020 empties!!! i went ahead and categorized them by brand so that i dont get things mixed up. etude house ——————— ETUDE - SoonJung pH6.5 Whip Cleanser my favorite fungal acne safe cleanser!! its perfect for dry combo skin! ETUDE - Etude House SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner a great fungal acne safe hydrating toner! better for dry skin, it would sometimes leave me oily at the end of the day. drunk elephant ————————— DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum although this serum isn’t fungal acne safe, my skin seems to enjoy it. it has a gel texture and actually regulates my oily forehead DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream another non fungal acne safe products. BUT doesn’t cause me to have breakouts!! its a thicc cream but doesn’t leave me feeling oily!! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream Deluxe Sample again... not fungal acne safe but STILL didn’t cause me to have any breakouts!! the protini feels similar in terms of thickness and the over all feeling on the skin but it feels more “ wearable “ first aid beauty ————————— FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Oil-Control Moisturizer i was super excited to tey this out because the ingredients are fungal acne safe and the claims were ideal for my skin type but sadly i was disappointed 😞 it didn’t control my oil but rather left mw with this shine on my forehead! and it didn’t moisture my dry cheeks. epic fail FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream this is a very basic fungal acne safe moisturizer i recommend to literally every one. i do like it and all but i find my skin still breaking out while i use this product. i would give it a 3 1/2 stars but i cant. CUROLOGY!!!! ———————— Curology - Curology formula Curology - Curology formula if you have fungal acne THIS is the treatment you NEED to try!!! my holy grail!! naturium ————— NATURIUM - Marine Hyaluronic Water Cream NATURIUM - Marine Hyaluronic Water Cream technically this moisturizer isn’t fungal acne safe because it contains polysorbate HOWEVER its one of the last ingredients listed so its not likely to have any affect. this is my FAVORITE MOISTURIZER!!! super affordable and feels luxurious and its amazing on my combo skin NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% my favorite fungal acne safe niacinamide serum!!! its affordable and it does exactly what it claims to do. literally cant get any better than this other lonely products ————————————- boscia - Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer this is a fungal acne safe moisturizer however its not very good at moisturizing or controlling oil 😕 but the packaging is cute i guess

Which peptide is for you ❓
Peptides are one of the best anti aging ingredients out there. Unfortunately there isn’t too much scientific studies yet but the ones that have been conducted have been very positive. The great thing is that there tons of peptide options for different steps in your routine or different concerns which means you can try out different options. The Ordinary - Argireline Solution 10% This is a serum that targets dynamic lines and has shown to have a 15-25% deduction in treated fine lines. The Ordinary - Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density This is a hair serum that peptides are the primary ingredient that is used to stimulate growth. The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% This is an anti aging power house with a combination of peptides, including copper peptides that are proven to be widely effective. This serum also improves over all skin texture including fading acne scars. THE inkey LIST - Hepta-Peptide Anti-Aging Serum This is a creamier serum that feels soft on the skin and has a variety of peptides. THE inkey LIST - Peptide Moisturizer This is a moisturizer that contains peptides which makes it very easy to incorporate peptides into a routine. This is a gel/cream blend which is easily smoothed on to the skin. NIOD - Modulating Glucosides This is a very scientifically innovative serum with a large variety of peptides that focus on skin barrier repair. VERSED - ZERO-G Smoothing Eye Cream This is a gel/cream hybrid with peptides to treat find lines and algae to hydrate. This also has mild colour correction and illuminating properties.

The New and the Old: Moisturizer Edition
The Old: THE inkey LIST - Peptide Moisturizer I think this would be a great moisturizer for summer, when the environment isn’t as dry and harsh. I would repurchase for sure. The simplicity of the formula made with multiple types of peptides support firming and collagen production. This moisturizer also supplements the skins moisture barrier. The New: FIRST AID BEAUTY - Skin Rescue Daily Face Cream The formulation combines Ceramides and Squalene to help hydrate and smooth skin's appearance. I’m excited to add this to my routine! I definitely think I need more hydration and I’m hoping this brings it.

Naturium: Affordable, Well-Rounded Formulas!
Naturium marries biologically-optimal ingredients with aesthetic, minimalist packaging. They’re a step above The Ordinary minimalism while forgoing random filler ingredients like fragrance and essential oils, managing to be both affordable and well-rounded! • NATURIUM - Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Serum 5% A thin, silky serum that absorbs quickly. It’s loaded with humectants, emollients, and a few antioxidants, making it deeply hydrating. I use it mainly to dilute other products for my sensitive skin, but dehydrated skin would looovee this for twice daily use. Repurchase? No, I tend to use multiple serums, so I don’t need a specifically hydrating one. • NATURIUM - BHA Liquid Exfoliant 2% Encapsulated salicylic acid + humectants = a hydrating exfoliant that helps with pore size and mild acne. Its lightweight texture is perfect for any skin type, except sensitive skin which may have issues with its citrus extracts. Repurchase? No, for fear of my eczema flaring with long-term use 🙈 • NATURIUM - Hyaluronic Acid Essence 2% Watery? Yup. Hydrating? Very. Sticky? Not at all! Apply to damp skin for instant hydration- I plan to put mine in a spray bottle soon! I do think the humectant-packed formula would be too simple if it wasn’t such a steal at $16 for 170mL. Plus, it does include soothing beta-glucan, making it perfect for any skin type. Repurchase? Probably not, as I use a lot of hydrating serums. • NATURIUM - Niacinamide Gel Cream 5% This gel is thicc, thanks to a few silicones and other polymers. It includes antioxidants and humectants to complement the star- niacinamide! B3 is popular for controlling sebum production, minimizing pore appearance, reducing acne, and its antioxidant status. This gel-cream is great for normal, oily, and acne prone skin! I mix it with oil for my drier skin. Repurchase? Yes! It’s perfect for layering over my serums in summer. • *NATURIUM - Intense Overnight Sleeping Cream Thick, bouncy, and spreadable, its humectants, emollients, lipids, and antioxidant extracts leave skin soft and seal in hydration without clogging my pores. Dry skin, layer it over a lightweight moisturizer for plump skin by AM. Oily skin, apply right on top of serums for satin skin when you wake up! Repurchase? Yes! This is such a winter staple for me now, it performs like a balm, but with a better texture. • *NATURIUM - Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture Cream Emollients, humectants, ceramides, fatty acids, antioxidants... This buttery cream is a great winter moisturizer or PM moisturizer for normal and combo skin, or AM + PM for dry skin. Oily skin, I’d avoid its rich formula. Repurchase? If I didn’t have a million moisturizers to test and review, yes! This is affordable and a lovely PM moisturizer. Want To Try: Niacinamide Skin Mist 2% Naked, Vitamin C Complex, Tranexamic Topical Acid 5% *Gifted

First skin care routine ever...
I was the naturalist, I made my own face wash for over 5 years (honey, coconut oil, tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar) and didn't mind it... but I'm rounding my mid 30's now and really wanted something to help slow down the formation of wrinkles. I decided to start where most people do, with products from "the ordinary". They're cheap and there's so many to try! I bought The Ordinary - ''Buffet'' The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 as per reccomendation from the DECIEM specialists, and friends, and started using one each morning, in rotation. After a few weeks I added a moisturizer PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizerand a sunscreen PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 because my skin was feeling and looking parched. I actually had worse texture and wrinkles! I noticed right away on the days I used buffet at night I would have more pronounced closed comodones. So after 4 weeks I stopped using this product. Right away I noticed improved skin colour with hyaluronic acid, so thought this might be a keeper, but I noticed my skin was getting drier and more wrinkly because of it, rather than plump, even after adding a moisturizer and sunscreen. A big indicator was my lips that were dry and peeling every day for those weeks. Finally I didn't really see much improvement with the Niacinamide. Overall I kept with these products (minus buffet) for over 2 months, and saw minimal improvement, many more blackheads on my face, and closed comodones that weren't going away. The real difference was when I stopped using these products just a few days ago and switched to PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist C15 Super Boosterin the morning, and PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator every other night (along with the same moisturizer and spf in the day) The closed comodones? Almost gone! And no new blackheads. Also my lips are back to their usual plump self. I think the buildup of too many products on my skin was causing it to actually become more clogged, with products that are supposed to be unclogging. I'll keep you updated on my beauty routine, as I've ordered 2 different moisturizers for day and night... but for now this is where I've switched to.

Two Skincare Trends That Aren’t Just Marketing
“Skin Superfoods”! “Anti-Blue Light Skincare!” “Probiotic Skincare!” “Anti-Pollution Skincare!” How do you decode what is a marketing buzzword and what is legit? Some have strong basis but bad delivery- blue light is blocked by tinted mineral sunscreen, so a specific serum is a bit overkill. Others take a bit of reading to legitimize their validity, and not everyone is happy to comb through dermatology journals all day... but I’ve found that the majority of the time, it’s usually just marketing. However, two recent trends caught my eye. My Skin: Combination, Acneprone, Sensitive. • Probiotics have been getting the limelight as focus shifts to the microbiome of the skin. Acne is the most studied resident of the skin microbiota, but it’s not the most important: if acne is only one of the bacteria we host, what about the others? Recent skincare focuses on the “good bacteria”, which work to keep the skin microbiome a healthy, habitable place while discouraging “bad bacteria” growth. I started applying topical Clindamycin a few months ago and have had good results, but I started getting small papules that remained whether I used BHA, Clindamycin, or tretinoin. I returned to a previous favourite moisturizer, PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizer , and the blemishes went away within a month or so! I love the PC Moisturizer for its creamy mid-weight texture as well as the silky and calm results I get from it! I recommend it to anyone looking to dip their toes into a no-fuss form of probiotic skincare. • Anti-Pollution skincare is hot and cold for me. On one hand, free radicals definitely contribute to premature signs of aging. On the other hand, the products you already use contain ingredients that help fight off a variety of types of environmental aggressors: vitamin C (ascorbic acid), vitamin E (tocopherol), vitamin B3 (niacinamide), ceramide NP, green tea, algae... Unless your skincare is as bare bones as it gets, you probably don’t need an extra serum. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Anti-Redness Serum is a lovely serum that contains a few antioxidants and a variety of soothing ingredients. It isn’t necessary and I likely won’t repurchase unless it’s on sale, but is something I use to augment my other products that contain antioxidant/anti-free radical ingredients, like my vitamin C serum. It has the added bonus of reducing inflammation and redness in my eczema-prone skin! Instead of focusing on anti-pollution, instead focus on the ingredients that fight against environmental damage- you’ll either find little need for a new product or you’ll be able to buy one knowing which products are probably worth the investment. #CheriePartner

Skincare 101: Double-Cleansing
Bar soaps and scrubs have been phased out of popularity, replaced with cleansers that use gentler sulfates than potentially-problematic SLS/SLES and double-cleansing has seen a rise. Grime, layers of sunscreen, heavy makeup... I recommend double-cleansing if you apply more than one layer of sunscreen or wear makeup, it’s helped so much with my own congestion/blackheads! Wash twice with a water-based cleanser if you prefer to be utilitarian, or try a micellar water if you don’t like oil textures. • 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲: For me, traditional double-cleansing is the way to go. Oil-based cleansers easily break down stubborn makeup like waterproof mascara and I’m careful to avoid sensitizing essential oils. My top pick for quality to quantity to cost? THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm . $10 for 150mL of a sensitive skin-friendly balm is hard to beat! Another good budget option is The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser , $7.90 for 50mL or $19.90 for 150mL. Its thick texture takes a bit more work to emulsify and rinse away, but gets the job done. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser is a great balm that I love for its easy emulsification and quick rinse, though it’s a bit more pricy- $34 for 110g. Harder to swallow the cost when you rinse it after just a minute of it on your skin, but it emulsifies so well and rinses clean easily. HOLI FROG - Kissimmee Vitamin F Therapy Balmy Wash is also kinda pricy, $42 for 74mL. It is hard to emulsify, but leaves my skin as soft as if I had moisturized after rinsing, making it luscious but hard to justify. • 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲: For my 2nd Cleanse, I reach for a water-based cleanser with a pH of 4-7 and hydrating humectants. I avoid essential oils and fragrance. My absolute favourite 2nd Cleanse is rPAULA'S CHOICE - RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser ($19 per 190mL, pH 6.2-7), a silky cream-to-foam that removes any 1st Cleanse residue without stripping skin. Another gentle and effective cleanser is the HOLI FROG - Superior Omega Nutritive Gel Wash ($36 per 150mL, pH 5.5). Both are great for any skin type, esp. drier skin! Oily/combo skin types will enjoy the deep-cleansing, strongly lathering gels of rCeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin ($11 per 355mL, pH 5.5) and #Drunk Elephant - Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser[products]#[FourStars] ($32 per 150mL, pH 5.5). I wouldn’t use them more than once per day since they can leave skin feeling tight if overused. How To Use A Balm Cleanser: 1. Dispense balm onto dry, clean palms. 2. Massage balm onto dry, uncleansed skin, for as long as you like. I wouldn’t go over a minute since you’ll be massaging your skin more in a sec... 3. Wet hands. 4. Emulsify the product on your face using a small amount of water, massaging until it is almost like a lather. 5. Rinse face. 6. Repeat steps 4 + 5 until your face feels clean and soft, with no visible milkiness/lather.

Hey everyone! 👋 So I wanted to let you all know what products are good for sensitive skin and further information on it. Ok so let’s start with Paulas Choice. ▶️PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator I love this product so much. It works so well and would totally recommend this product.👍 This exfoliant is used to get rid of blackheads and shrink pores. Paulas Choice is completely okay for your skin and works within days. Next we have The Ordinary Peeling Solution ▶️The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution I have talked about The Ordinary in most of my posts before. As you all know, this product works so well based off of skin type. For example, it may work or it may not, it’s all about what works for you! I 100% recommend this product and all you have to do is use it once a week so it doesn’t damage your protected barrier. Next up we have The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum ▶️The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% This product works so well for sensitive skin and would highly recommend. This product is not only great for your skin, but it also prevents skin disorder. I love this product so much and was so worth my money and you guys should definitely look into buying this, it’s so worth it.👍

My Current AM Routine
I feel like my routine is always changing due to purchasing new products to try and review, however here is my current AM routine. HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash (fragrence free) I've only just recently started using this, but I will say I like this one. I find it similar to LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser Holifrog is a little more hydrating since it feels like a lotion than a cleanser. The La Roche cleanser is a good dupe if you need something a little cheaper and at the convince stores. If you have dry skin I highly recommend Holifrog, but if you have normal to oily skin and are just experiencing some sensitivity (like your skin barrier) then I would go with La Roche. COSRX - Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence (fragrence free) I really enjoy this product because I feel like I am getting a good size value for the price. It also doesn't feel any different than any other HA essence or serum that I've tried (one being a very expensive one). Krave - Great Barrier Relief (fragrence free) This guy is definitely my holy Grail and I have reviewed it before. I use it daily due to my dry skin, but if you have normal to oily skin I definitely recommend having this on hand especially if you like to try new products and if it possibly irritates you or if you over do actives. PETER THOMAS ROTH - Potent-C Vitamin C Power Serum (fragrence free) I've also done a review already on this one. It is very potent and has a stable form of vit C, however unless you are trying to severely even out skin tone or remove dark spots, I would not spend the money. It is definitely pricey (almost $100). If you really need the potency of this product, then go ahead. Otherwise if you are just looking to fix minor issues/use it to go along with your spf, I'd go with a cheaper (still stable) product likeTHE inkey LIST - Vitamin C Serum 30ml(I have not personally tried this inkey list product, but have heard good things about it's ingredients as well as being a reasonable price) FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream (fragrence free) I am really enjoying this new product. It is a step up fromCeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream which I also love for the simplicity and price value, but this one has even more soothing ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal. I like to use this in the morning because it doesn't make my face overly shiny before I head out the door and it also goes well under make up (with a primer of course) #Deoproce - Hyaluronic Cooling Sun Gel spf 50[products]#[FourStars] (NOT fragrence free) I just recently bought this sunscreen and it is my first Korean spf. I love how easily it goes on and it gives me enough glow without looking greasy. My complaint would be that it's not fragrence free, but I'm happy it got me started. Next I'll likely try Krave - The Beet ShieldorTHANK YOU FARMER - Sun Project Water Sun Cream

Next on my list to review....
Here's my latest skin haul awaiting to arrive in the mail. I'll be trying and reviewing to give you my truthful opinion on how these work for me and why I think they are (or are not) a good product. Have you personally tried any of these? Sound off in the comments your thoughts. Give me time to get through each of these products since I'll be trying them out for atleast a week at a time.

It’s empty and...it’s worth it!
Hiya! I was lucky enough to receive this elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 from a giveaway through@cherie(thank you 🥰🥰). It actually lasted me way longer than I thought it would and... I miss it. The good: + Feels like a very light-weight moisturizer + Works well with all types of makeup on top (no pilling) + Easy to reapply and absolutely no white cast + Great packaging, I love the pump + Definitely plays well with active acne and general acne prone skin + Absolutely zero skin irritation, it feels very very gentle + Doesn’t leave skin oily or too shiny The not so good: - It’s actually kind of hard to find... so to buy this I need to either order online or pick up from a dermatologist. It’s not a super affordable sunscreen, but I’m okay to invest a little bit more money in sunscreen. And this also feels like it’s worth the price tag. I’m currently working on another bottle of sunscreen but once that’s done I’m likely going to be going back this one. If I can find it 🙈 Ps I have combo, acne prone skin

Face update
Ok guys if you been following me my bumps are starting to dry up and now I have dark spots. My right side is completely healed and the left is my trouble side. After seeing my dermatologist for my follow up appointment she went up on the dose of the retinoid I use at night. If you are wondering my routine this is what I'm using. Also go look at my old pics to see where I started from. Neutrogena - Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask I love this as it dries out my bumps LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser I use this at night and love how it's super light CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion light way and keeps face moisturizer at night elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 I use the tinted version now great for black girls only in the morning and I do two fingers when I apply it The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I just started using it super light weight. I started as a suggestion to help purging. Haven't told my dermatologist I'm using it but it has made the bumps on the right side calm down so so far so good. I'll update this to five stars after I have enough data to support if it really works.CeraVe - Healing Ointment I use when I experience dryness from the winter. A lot goes a long way .

One Week Using Differin
Experience: I started using Differin about a week ago to deal with my maskne and dark spots. Ever since I started wearing masks more frequently, my skin has essentially freaked out. It’s super sensitive and dry, especially around my mouth, but I get cystic-like acne along the area where my mask touches my face. I decided that I was going to try Differin as my last resort before going to the dermatologist (cause I’m still nervous about going to doctor’s offices, unless absolutely necessary because of covid). The instructions recommend daily use; however, I began my first week by using it every other day since I’ve had negative experiences/reactions with other active ingredients before. Since then, I’ve begun using it every night. I use this in the evening after cleansing and applying moisturizer and Aquaphor’s healing ointment. Pros: I definitely already see a visible improvement in my skin, especially with the hyperpigmentation that I’ve dealt with. I do use other products that help with brightening, but I’ve been using those products for quite a while and haven’t seen such a drastic improvement until now. Cons: I experienced a few small breakouts around my chin, but they went away pretty quickly. I have yet to experience any significant purging/dryness, but I also didn’t jump immediately to daily use. Other Products I Use + Frequency: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser (everyday, AM/PM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser(everyday to remove sunscreen, PM) The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA(every other day, alternate between this and the next product/AM) The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%(every other day, alternate between this and the previous product/AM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream (everyday, AM/PM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30(everyday, AM) Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant(everyday, use as a lip balm and to protect sensitive areas of my skin when applying Differin)

The Trunk 4.0🎪🐘
🎪DRUNK ELEPHANT - The Trunk 4.0 This kit comes fully stocked with everything you need for a truly complete skincare routine & a swift getaway! 🛩☁️ I wouldn’t travel right now, even if you paid me. Covid numbers aren’t going down & I take these facts very seriously. Haven’t had contact with almost anyone since March, because I do have a neurological disease that could put me at risk. I can’t tell anyone what to do... but do I urge you to consciously protect strangers while protecting yourself & your loved ones. My condition is one often referred to as an “Invisible Illness”. Many people have health conditions that others don’t outrightly see. Most people think I’m completely able-bodied unless I’m seen limping or having convulsions. I’ve only had this condition since 2014, so it’s been an adjustment & learning experience for my own prejudgements as well. 🧳My bf really likes the Monos locking suitcase & encouraged me to purchase this while the big Sephora sale was going on. He has to travel for his essential-work sometimes & this is a perfect carry-on size! It’s just as wide & deep as the ‘Monos Carry-On’ ($293) & only 4” shorter. specs: 18” high x 14” wide x 9” deep. Monos describes their Carry-On as: Designed to comply with the size restrictions of as many airlines as possible, & fits in the overhead bin of nearly any flight. So I think this slightly shorter rolling suitcase would 99% likely be accepted as a carry-on. 💚Really impressed with the quality! Its lightweight but well structured, great features/compartments + an antibacterial laundry bag. I’m totally new to Drunk Elephant, but I wanted to try their L-Ascorbic Acid serum, Glycolic Acid serum & the Babyfacial🍼🐘 I also want to start using a gentle retinol. Those 4 products alone would have been $324! With my Rouge discount: $360! Regular price is $450- You get 10 full size products, 3 minis +5 sample packets. 18 different things to try! ➖Which would you like me to review first?➖ 🐘I want to trial everything before I review! Here’s everything w/sizes & individual cost: #Drunk Elephant - Beste no.9 Jelly Cleanser[products]#$32/5 oz DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C.

Current favourite sunscreen
Paula’s choice is a very science driven brand that prides its self on transparency. They are cruelty free, have a massive array of products and have an ingredients encyclopedia on their website. It is important for everyone to use sunscreen daily but with my fair skin it is especially important. I have always used a daily sunscreen and therefore I have tried many. When I am not going out I tend to use a combo sunscreen moisturizer but when I am leaving the house I like to split out my products with a separate moisturizer and spf. This sunscreen is an excellent option as it is comfortable and works really well with other products. Texture: This is a light liquid texture that is quickly absorbed into the skin. I never have any white cast but I have fair skin so I can’t guarantee that darker complexions wouldn’t have a white cast. Effectiveness: This is a high powered spf (50++) that is very comfortable on the skin and never feels suffocating. PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 this will definitely remain one of my staple spfs.

Tips for Retinoid-Induced Dryness! 💦
Tips for Retinoid-Induced Dryness! 💦
Disclaimer: Two studies have shown that this Purito sunscreen only contains 19 SPF. They have stopped selling them and are offering refunds to those that have bought the product in the past 6 months. I no longer use or recommend this product. Check out Krave - The Beet Shield if you are looking for an alternative! I recently began using prescribed Clindamycin gel and Tretinoin cream for my acne. I already had dry, sensitive skin so adding these products has amped up those issues. So how am I dealing with my dry, irritated skin? Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant This ointment is designed for dry, cracked, or irritated skin. It’s clinically proven to restore smooth, healthy skin. It contains petrolatum, which acts as a skin protectant. Other ingredients include: mineral oil, ceresin, lanolin alcohol, panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol. I mainly use this ointment on my lips, but I occasionally use it under my eyes and inside my nose if they are extra dry. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration This cream aims to help hydrated, parched skin, as well as temporarily relieve minor irritation and itching due to eczema and other conditions. It is safe for sensitive skin, and does not contain parabens, harsh chemicals, or colorants. Its star ingredients include: colloidal oatmeal, shea butter, ceramides, and squalane. Unfortunately it does contain eucalyptus oil, but the small amount doesn’t irritate my skin. I use this cream as my AM moisturizer. It is deeply hydrating and absorbs into the skin easily. My skin feels so soft and smooth thanks to this cream. It soothes my skin after applying the clindamycin gel and reduces irritation. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ This sunscreen is perfect for dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin. It contains hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and centella asiatica extract. With its 70% moisture base and 4 different types of essences, it works like a moisturizing cream. It provides SPF50+, PA++++ protection. I use this after the Ultra Repair Cream in the AM and then reapply 1-2 times throughout the day. It provides my skin with much-needed hydration and UV protection. It’s the perfect consistency and rubs onto my skin so easily, all without being sticky. It soothes and smoothes my skin! These are just some of the products that I use. My whole routine is aimed at hydrating my skin and reducing irritation. My AM routine includes: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser , PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner , PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum , Clindamycin gel, FAB Ultra Relief Cream, and Purito Centella Unscented Sunscreen. My PM routine includes the same products listed above minus the SPF and CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream for my moisturizer.

Week 1 of Barrier Repair
Week 1 of Barrier Repair
All through winter (New Zealand) I experienced dry, tight, flaky, red, sensitive, reactive, itchy and eczema prone skin. What a mouthful! Then thank you to an ad on instagram I came across this app, and I learnt sooooo much about my skin. I spent endless hours (when I could with a toddler) going through post after post on this app, taking notes, saving products and doing my own research. I realised I had compromised my skin barrier with endless products and a steroid cream prescribed by my doctor for my eczema (eek I know). I culled my whole routine as nothing I was using was working for me and purchased the basics, mind you I had to wait a while for some products to come from overseas as they are not available here (and some I couldn’t get a hold of at all so had to find similar products). My routine in Week 1: AM CLEANSE: splashed my face with water TREATMENT: The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 right now I am unsure as to how effective this is, my skin feels supple and soft but for any long term benefits I will have to wait and see. MOISTURISER: The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA EYE CREAM: CeraVe - Eye Repair Cream with it only being week one, I haven’t seen anything dramatic happen yet SUNSCREEN: PAULA'S CHOICE - Calm Mineral Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 I am still unsure about this as it leaves me with a white case initially but that fades after five or so minutes. PM CLEANSE: CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin so far this has been amazing, doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight. Feels really hydrating. I massage it in for about 1min before rinsing. TREATMENT: The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 EYE CREAM: CeraVe - Eye Repair Cream MOISTURISER: The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA I was finding that this was just not hydrating enough for my skin and left me tight, and I needed to reapply a few hours later as I headed to bed. But still waking up quite dry in the morning. After a few days I realised I probably wasnt getting my sunscreen off properly and decided to add in a step in the PM. PRE-CLEANSE: BANILA CO - Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Purifying I had this for removing makeup, a purchase I made on the whim about a year ago as I hated using wipes etc. I only realised after adding this step back in that this was making me reactive and I would wake up itchy with what looked like hives around my eyes/cheek. I culled both products (luckily I only purchased the 30ml of the NMF cream so I had pretty much used it up) and did some more research. See Week 2 of Barrier Repair for more...

PAULA'S CHOICE-Calm Mineral Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30
I am so excited for this post
I am so excited for this post because I get to share some of my absolute favourite products 😍 Best. Cleansing. Balm. Ever. If you haven’t tried it yet then you need to plan a trip to Sephora this weekend and grab yourself one 😄 while you’re there, you might as well grab Green Defense because it is by far the best mineral sunscreen I have ever tried. I’ve been using for the past 3 weeks and I am completely obsessed! First of all, I don’t ever bother with mineral suncreens because they’re often too thick, hard to blend, leave an ugly white cast, irritates my skin and break me out (even if they’re supposed to be better for those with sensitive skin). But this sunscreen is the complete opposite of what I just said. It’s lightweight, super easy to blend, non-greasy, *NEVER LEAVES A WHITE CAST* (super important) and doesn’t irritate my sensitive, acne prone skin. It also wears nicely under make up. The hype is seriously SO real and I think everyone needs this sunscreen in their life. I literally don’t have any complains except the fact that it’s not available in Canada 😭 Farmacy please change this!

Simple AM Routine for Dry Sensitive Skin ☀️ 🌵
Simple AM Routine for Dry Sensitive Skin ☀️ 🌵
This is my boyfriend’s simple AM skincare routine (created by me! 😁). Before we met 3 years ago, he never moisturized or used sunscreen, and washed his face with body wash. 😱 As you can imagine, his skin used to be hella dry and dehydrated, and his skin barrier was damaged. He has very dry, sensitive skin, isn’t acne-prone, and likes simple and quick routines so that he doesn’t have to spend too much time getting ready. ☀️AM Routine 1. Water rinse face - both he and I skip morning cleansing as to not overly strip the skin of its natural oils. 2. ETUDE - Soon Jung, 2x Barrier Intensive Cream This cream has been a lifesaver for his skin! It has ingredients like Madecassoside to repair the skin barrier. On my combo skin, this cream sits a little too occlusive and shiny, but his skin drinks it up without it being too heavy. Many other simple moisturizers such as the Cerave Moisturizing Cream sting his skin, but this moisturizer does not. 3. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ This sunscreen is a bit too moisturizing for me, but works well with his dry skin. It has a shiny finish on me, but absorbs more dewy on his skin and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky. His PM routine is also posted on my page!

My favorite skin care products!
My favorite skin care products!
I am obsessed with the Milk makeup cleanser and moisturizer! I have been using them since may! Both products are vegan. The cleanser is perfect for someone like me with normal to dry skin. It doesn’t have a fragrance at all. It is kind of thick but I love that ! Some cleansers I have used in the past would leave my skin feeling weird and dry. I would also end up breaking out shortly after using other cleansers. My face feels soft and clean after using the milk vegan cleanser. I haven’t experienced and breakouts after using it. The moisturizer really helps keep my dry skin hydrated ! It is a little on the thicker side but it feels amazing on the skin. If you have oily skin I recommend only using it at night.
