How to Apply Concealer on Eczema-Prone Skin!

avatar
Skinsitive
My eczema flares up the most easily around my eyes, creating flaky patches and making the skin much more red and sensitive compared to the rest of my face. Dry skin can exaggerate creasing, fine lines, and unwanted texture.... but! To apply concealer that dries down to a smooth and dewy finish, just apply a very thin layer of an occlusive on your eyelid and under your eye. My go-to occlusive is my giant tub of CeraVe - Healing Ointment
, which helps further by being packed with ceramides, humectants, emollients, and occlusive agents. It is cost efficient and leaves my concealer so delightfully smooth. Use this sparingly- I only need the lightest pat of my finger into the tub to apply a sufficient layer of product. Wait a minute or two for it to settle before applying your concealer! The only concealer I’ve ever repurchased: colorescience - Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35
. It contains a variety of ingredients, but my favourite thing about it is its lack of eczema triggers (my eczema flares when I apply products with alcohol, essential oils, and/or fragrance) and its creamy, spreadable texture. It brightens my eyes without looking like I’m wearing concealer, with the added benefit of additional sunscreen protection! The included applicator makes it easy to dot on product, which I spread with my ring finger in a patting motion. #CheriePartner

Battle of the Healing Ointments
If you caught my last post, the change in seasons had my cheeks suuuupper dry, like the texture of a piece of paper, every morning. I reached out to an esthetician on insta and was recommended to coat the dry areas with some petrolatum jelly before going to bed after my skin routine. 🔵CeraVe - Healing Ointment I started off using this as that’s what I saw most people using, and I’d had luck with it in the past. Unfortunately, I was disappointed as I woke up to it worn off and my cheeks still dry. I also sometimes saw redness after applying. 🔴Aquaphor - Aquaphor Healing Ointment I then remembered I had this in the back of the medicine cabinet and gave it a whirl. I felt the difference on the first night! While it also wore off a bit during the night, my cheeks felt plump and moisturized when I woke up. I’ve been using it for about a week and I’m starting to get a couple small pimples, so I’m taking it as a good sign that my skins producing some oil again. I will try a couple nights off the Aquaphor to see how my skin holds up 🙏🏼 hopefully I can get to a point where I can spot treat some nights and go without others. Definitely keeping this on hand daily for lips though! ~ a note on petrolatum, don’t be scared of it! It’s literally one of the safest and most effective cosmetics on the market. The only reason you should avoid is if you’re super oily, or are applying on dirty skin.

Meh... Surprisingly 😦
I feel like everyone loves this and raves about this cream. However, I just didn’t get the hype. First this cream stings when I first apply it. It goes away relatively fast, but it still stings. Also this cream absorbs pretty quickly. Which seems like a great thing, but once it does my skin starts to feel tight and dry again. I really noticed this in the morning; my skin felt so parched when I’d wake up. It helped layering the CeraVe - Healing Ointmenton top. So while I feel this is an okay moisturizer it didn’t really lock in moisture enough for me.

While I'm not WOWed, I'd say this is decent for a little extra boost of hydration, especially for this winter season. The cream is very thick in consistency but it spreads easily and really seals in everything. Also didn’t experience any irritation while using this, which is a plus. ⁣ ⁣ I have used more of the product on the sides of my face, where I'm feeling particularly a lil dry, but a really small amount is enough for my t-zone- it works for me and it doesn’t exacerbate my oiliness that way. ⁣ ⁣ I appreciate and love the barrier-repairing ingredients included on this one but sadly, this again has lavender and citrus oils. So overall, although I liked this product, I would still not recommend it 🙈 ⁣ ⁣ *gifted in exchange of a review⁣

This product has absolutely done wonders for my skin. I’ve noticed a dramatic difference in how smooth and even toned my skin looks. I alternate this every night in my routine. It gives a gentle stinging effect at first but that tells me it’s working. When I wake up after using this product, my skin looks healthy!FARMACY - The Beehive: Best-Sellers for Glowing Skin
