I Tried It All & An Acne Victory Emerged!
Skinsitive
Hormonal acne is extremely difficult to completely eliminate unless you treat the cause- which, my hormone fluctuations aren’t going anywhere, so I’d gotten pretty good at controlling breakouts via salicylic acid and niacinamide while I used azelaic acid and alpha arbutin to fade any leftover spots. But nothing has helped minimize my hormonal breakouts quite like Tretinoin 0.05%, a prescription that was previously unattainable thanks to the $200 copay for the dermatologist visit and the $180 prescription cost. Apostrophe doesn’t require you to have insurance- they have a flat rate $20 “visit fee” during which you fill out a questionnaire (including your health history) and send a dermatologist photos of your skin. Then that $20 goes towards your first prescription fill in their pharmacy, which is only $60 the first time and $90 after, though each lotion bottle should last about 3+ months with recommended use.

FINALLY! It’s mine!
This is one brand I’ve been stalking and I’ve finally got my hands on the highly raved, much talked about PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator
I’d say what really draws me to this particular brand is its commitment to highly effective, well tested products. I feel they really listen to their customers and value their feedback.
Well, imagine my surprise when in pops an email from a Paula’s Choice social media team member asking for my address to send me some products just for being me?!? I couldn’t respond fast enough with a...., “YES!” I’m not sure why I’ve been sleeping on this brand for so long. I follow so many diehard fans that swear and have visual proof of the changes their products have made. I have a feeling it’s all going to change after this...
Just a little about PC if you haven’t heard of the brand (taken from the website) :
Did you know that the founder, Paula was actually fired from her job working at a cosmetic counter for explaining to a customer what products could and couldn’t do for their skin?
(This is what we need more of!! I was immediately drawn to the brand when I first heard about that!)

I’ve had on my wishlist, along with the exfoliator I just received, their

PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster
PAULA'S CHOICE - Peptide Booster
PAULA'S CHOICE - Anti-Aging Eye Gel
Honestly, I want to try it all!
I’d probably start swapping out some of the products I currently use for similar items. For instance, I am looking for a replacement vitamin c so I’d trade mine out for theirs. Then the Niacinamide and Hyaluronic and so on. I’m definitely going to do the skincare quiz and see what’s recommended for me!
Do you use any Paula’s Choice products? What’s your favorite? Please share! 😘
I’ll be back in a few weeks to tell you what I think of this exfoliator!

Update!
This is my one month update on my skin. I have been using tretinoin cream every 3 nights & and the clindamycin phosphate lotion morning and night. I then decided to change my skincare routine to a Korean & Japanese skincare, and I’m very happy I made the choice. On December 3rd I went to get a customized facial and my esthetician told me I have acne that is clogged pores underneath my skin, so she did a deep extraction and in another few weeks I’m going to get one more done just to make sure they are all out.
FARMACY - Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm I was using the dhc deep cleaning oil but it was too thick for me so I switch to this and it is light and not stripping, good for a oil cleanse or a first cleanse
TATCHA - The Rice Wash Skin-Softening Cleanser this cleanser is a nice hydrating cleanser and it does not strip my skin at all
Krave - Kale-Lalu-yAHA I just started using this exfoliant but I really like it and I seen results right after I used it
Krave - Great Barrier Relief this serum is another I just started using but I love it, and it have a nice smell to it
Krave - The Beet Shield this sunscreen does not leave a white cast on my face, and I don’t feel greasy after
PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster this products is helping me get rid of my acne marks that I have from my facial
PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster I just love this! This is helping with my acne and dark marks
dear, klairs - Fundamental Water Gel Cream I have to use a light weight moisturizer so it won’t clog my pores

😊Why I multi-mask 😊
First let me say, not all areas of your face need the same type of care, and attention. For me, my chin has broke out bad this week thanks to Aunt Flo. Anyway I needed a detox for my chin, while the rest of my face didn’t really need much, but I have dark spots I’m targeting with The Ordinary chemical peel. If I felt like my T-zone was oily or a little dry, I would have used 3 masks. The key is to listen to your skin! Normally I’d just use one mask, but my chin really needed something targeted for detox. Since I don’t have sensitive skin I left them on for 10 minutes before washing off. If you have sensitive skin use for 5 minutes, and always so a small patch test to make sure you won’t react. Also they make an acid neutralizer, that would be handy to have as a just Incase.
Second, I use a calming face serum after. It really helps with any redness that might occurs from the masks (mind you redness is normal, just make sure that you use sunscreen because your skin will be more sensitive to sun) then i follow up with a vitamin C serum then I finish off with sunscreen. When I do a mask like this I really try to keep the after care simple, yet replenishing, and protecting.
These are the products I used and why I choose them.
First I wash, I double cleansed this time. I used youthificarion face wash, then the CeraVe - Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser
I chose the youthification, simply because of the ingredients, all organic and it really helps my skin. Then I chose the cerave because it’s such a gentle cleanser for me and with the ingredients targeted for acne I’ll take all the help I can get.
I used AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay on my chin and the The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution and I explained why above 😊
I finished with the youthification night serum for the calming properties of the ingredients. And the OLE HENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum and I use vitamin c because it helps even skin tone and brightens skin. Then I finished with the sun bum - Face Lotion SPF 50 I chose this sunscreen because it’s chemical, Not mineral. In short mineral sunscreen leaves the white cast on your face while the chemical sunscreen absorbs into your skin. And it pairs best with my products, I don’t get the pilling like I did with mineral sunscreen. (Pilling is when your products sort of roll into balls and off your skin.)

Before and Afters still in progress....
I truly don’t like doing before and afters especially when it looks like there’s barely any progress but I promise you my skin FEELS so much better than it looks and I’ve seen some amazing progress! I’ve tagged the products I feel have helped the most recently. It takes patience but little progress is still PROGRESS 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

The Old and the New... Serum edition
The Old and the New...
Serums for hyperpigmentation/texture edition
The Old: The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
This serum had more of a creamy moisturizer consistency, with a bit of a silicon-like feel. I know the texture is a turn off for some, but I actually liked it.
Azelaic Acid brightens the skin tone while visibly improving skin texture and reducing the look of blemishes. It is a multi-functional support ingredient that also acts as an effective antioxidant.
The new: GOOD MOLECULES - Discoloration Correcting Serum
The main ingredient of this serum is tranexamic acid. It is also formulated with 4% niacinamide. This serum claims to improves the appearance of age spots, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage.
I’ve only used it twice, so not enough to give a review but I can say the packaging is not awesome. It is in a dropper bottle, except the dropper doesn’t work.

What are those tiny bumps? MILIA!
Our skin is quite complex, having various functions in order to maintain proper health. So many skin conditions can occur along the way, and some are more common than you may think. Milia affects more than 3 million people every year in the US (Mayo Clinic) causing many people to seek help from dermatologists and other resources. So, what is milia and how can we treat or prevent it?
☆What is it?
Milia are small cysts that commonly occur on the face, but can also form on the body. The small, white cysts form due to keratin becoming trapped under the skin and clogging the pore. They are harmless, but can become quite the pest as they feel hard and often are seen in multiples throughout the face. It can happen to anyone of any age but is especially common in babies.
☆How to Treat and Prevent-
Milia can present itself in adults due to skin damage or abrasion, as well as a build up of dead skin. Without the natural exfoliation process, a milia bump can form. In order to help prevent milia you want to ensure the skin is being exfoliated properly. Using a gentle AHA or BHA can keep the pores from clogging. This is also helpful for existing milia to rid of them faster!
Two gentle options for all skin types:
THE inkey LIST - Beta Hydroxy Acid
CeraVe - Resurfacing Retinol Serum
Milia can also form due to heavy or comedogenic creams. Coconut oil is an example of a pore clogging ingredient that can definitely cause milia if left sitting on the skin. When seen under the eyes, you may think the culprit is your daily eye cream. The skin around the eyes is very thin and sensitive. Ensure that you are also cleansing the area close to the eyes and keeping it clean. Most eye creams will not cause issues due to their special formulation, but opt for a lighter version if necessary.
Treating milia is quite the tricky task. As an esthetician, I am trained in extracting all pimples and bumps on the skin. I can say that milia are quite difficult to get out correctly! Because there is no opening to the cyst, like a regular pimple would have, the extraction process requires creating a small opening to pop out the small cyst. This is best left to professionals! At home care requires daily cleansing and twice weekly exfoliation, and they can often come out on their own. As far as removal goes, put down the extractors and see a licensed esthetician or dermatologist to keep the skin protected.
Have you ever experienced milia??🤔

🥊 Battle of the Pimple Patches! 🥊
🥊 𝗪𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐭/𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬! 🥊
↖️In one corner corner, we have the Hero Cosmetics 𝐌𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬, weighing in at $12.99/6 patches, and a whopping 173 hyaluronic acid micropoints.
↘️And in the other corner, we have ZitSticka’s 𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐊𝐢𝐭, weighing in at $29/8 Killa patches + 8 Cleana swabs. These bad boys sport 24 microdarts filled with hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, and niacinamide.
🥊𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝟏, 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓! Round one is about effectiveness. After using nearly the entire box of Zitsticka and then trying only 2 of the Mighty Patches, Hero Cosmetics came out ahead with more effectively reducing those pesky under-the-skin pimples I’ve had. After feeling a bit let down by the Killa patches, I was blown away by how effective the Mighty Patches were.
🥊𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝟐, 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓! Round two is all about the moolah. It’s pretty clear who is the winner here, as the Hero Cosmetics brand is much more affordable in general. I also was able to pick these up at my local Target which is a HUGE benefit! No waiting or paying for shipping!
🥊𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝟑, 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓! Round three is packaging. I feel that although ZitSticka’s packaging is definitely sleek, it is super wasteful. Each patch comes individually wrapped inside a plastic case (to protect the micro darts, no doubt) which is then put in an individual foil pouch. Great for taking on the go, not so great for the environment. I like that the Mighty Patch comes 6 to a plastic package, and that it also sports more darts overall to cover more area.
𝐈𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: In this fight, 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐓𝐊𝐎 over ZitSticka, which I wasn’t expecting! Both products were reimbursable through my FSA, which is a win-win. While Mighty Patches packed a bigger punch for me overall, I think both are worth trying and seeing what works best for you!

ZIT STICKA patches really work!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Hey guys so I ordered this ZITSTICKA - Killa Kit off Amazon as a acne spot treatment and let me tell you these patches really work. I used to COSRX ones before and they were ok but nothing compared to zit sticka patches. I double cleansed before I got started. Step one you wipe your acne blemish-with the included wipe in the kit and step 2 you apply the patch which have these little darts, which you can definitely feel but don't hurt, over the blemish. After applying the spot treatment I then applied the rest of my skincare avoiding the treated area. I went to sleep and wake up with significantly reduced acne blemish. ***swipe to see photos*** I definitely will be reordering these off Amazon!!! Have you tried these?? What are your favorite acne spot treatment??!!
MelaninSkinCareAddict
December/January Empties!
I’ll start this off with my favourites:
MISSHA - Missha All-around Safe Block Essence Sun Milk I’m so sad that I’ve run out of this. If you don’t like the feel of sunscreens that feel thick and heavy, pick this up! you won’t regret it! I also ran out of the Volition sunscreen that I paired along side this one, but recycled it before I took a picture.
Briogeo - Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask (📍) Again, was so sad to run out of this, check out my post featuring this and the new hair mask I picked up for more info!
THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum If I could give this 100 stars out of 10, I would. This is my favourite serum of all time and I always have two back ups in my collection!
Now for my meh products:
SUNDAY RILEY - CEO 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum I liked the way that this felt don’t get me wrong, but I think because of the shimmer effect it has, it may have been breaking me out a bit. This didn’t have enough in it to last me long enough to see any effects.
Kate Somerville - DeliKate Recovery Cream this is unbelievable. Although I will never buy this at the $104 price point, it’s a beautiful, thick, heavy cream. Wonderful for winter skin.
fresh - Sugar Hydrating Lip Balm, Watermelon I actually have the lime+mint scent, but this is also amazing. I’ve just began started applying all my lip balms on damp lips, and I’ve found it’s made the biggest difference. No more dry lips!
DRUNK ELEPHANT - Sili™ Body Lotion (📍)
If you’ve seen my marula oil post, you’ve seen that I don’t support Drunk Elephant anymore, this is one of my last products I have from them (that they sent me) and it was too light to be a body cream. I have really dry legs and this didn’t do the trick. I ended up keeping this on my desk as a hand lotion and it worked well!
Now for my no good product:
Too Faced - Better Than Sex Mascara (📍)
I don’t understand that hype around this mascara. On me, it doesn’t make my lashes look longer or fuller, it flakes super easy and it doesn’t hold my curl. Happy to have finished this so I can move on.
📍= product was sent to me for free

Lastest Inkey Order
Hey y’all!
So, put in a new inkey order.
I’m totally in love with their Q10 serum. Makes my skin super dewy, feels hydrated, and it has its benefits as an antioxidant. I love it primarily because it makes my niacinamide sticky feeing go away!
I have only ever tried TO’s niacinamide serum, so giving inkey’s a go. I have heard that the inkey’s is better if you have drier skin, so hoping this works out!
I have never tried any squalene oil or alpha arbutrin, so this will be a first for me.
If you have any tips, leave them below!

UPDATE: I Quit Differin
This is a long overdue skincare update but I have quit Differin because it started to strip my skin barrier, and I kept breaking out even after applying the gel.
LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel -I’m about to run out of this cleanser and I’m thinking about replacing it with a more moisturizing cleanser from the same brand. This cleanser is excellent but I wish it was a bit more effective
PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator -This has been a little too gentle on my skin so I wasn’t able to experience a huge difference after using this product
The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 5% + HA -This serum is gentle on my skin and I have noticed an improvement in my skin’s tone
VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream -I came back to this moisturizer to give it a second chance and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is better for people with very oily skin and I have combination skin
PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ -This product is a chef’s kiss. It is gentle, hydrating, and very effective at protecting your skin from the sun
I am still breaking out but I’m not sure which route to take. I’ve been exfoliating quite a lot and I’m thinking about going the other path and restoring the hell out of my skin. Any recommendations to restore my skin’s barrier and to increase collagen as well as clearing out my pimples and acne scars would be much appreciated!

Current Products I'm Using
I have oil/combo skin and been struggling with hormonal acne for a few years now which is mainly around my chin. I have noticed some positive changes but also some negative ones, for example I have more blackheads in areas besides my nose which I never had before. Here are the products I've been using lately.
AM Routine
I don't cleanse in the morning just splash water on my face and pat dry, then I apply PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist C15 Super Booster after I apply moisturizer e.l.f. - Holy Hydration! Face Cream - Fragrance Free then sunscreen Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50 With Sunflower Extract
PM Routine
During the day I don't wear much makeup just some mascara so I just use GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water with Rose Water for my first cleanse, then I go in with PAULA'S CHOICE - Pore Normalizing Cleanser which I am just about out of so I will be using CeraVe - Salicylic Acid Facial Cleanserwhich I haven't tried before but decided to buy it because of all the hype! Than I apply my toner and depending on my skin at the time I will either use PAULA'S CHOICE - Pore-Reducing Toner or I'm from - Rice Toner I have just recently purchased and starting using The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% then I moisturizer with THE inkey LIST - Peptide Moisturizer
I use PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator twice a weeks and PAULA'S CHOICE - 1% Retinol Treatment with Peptides + Vitamin C 3 times a week.
My skin is still breaking out so I'm gonna try eliminating certain products to see if I can pin point what is causing the breakouts and blackheads. I recently purchased a cleansing brush and I'm gonna start by eliminating the Paulas choice BHA Exfoliator and start using the brush 2 or 3 times a week instead. If that's not the problem then I'm gonna try taking out the Vitamin C. If anyone has any advice or tips I am all ears!!!

Apostrophe Update!
So far I am super happy with how my skin is looking! I started on January 6, and today is February 16. The end of my 90 days will be either at the end of March or at the beginning of April, so I’m about halfway there.
The struggle for me right now is that my skin changes day to day. One day I will wake up with lots of cystic pimples, and one dat, like today, my skin will have none. I definitely still have dark marks, but I’m okay with that for now! As long as they aren’t active I am happy lol. I still seem to get acne flares on my period, which is discouraging considering Spironolactone is for hormonal acne. I’m just trying to trust the process🧐
I realized that I haven’t talked about my daily morning and night routine, so here it is!
Morning:
-cleanse with either PEACH & LILY - Power Calm Hydrating Gel Cleanser or CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser
-moisturize with either PEACH & LILY - Matcha Pudding Antioxidant Cream or FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Minis Original & Cranberry Pomegranate
-apply spf with Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
-my makeup routine
At night:
-remove makeup with DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil
-cleanse with CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser
-moisturize with FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Minis Original & Cranberry Pomegranate
-apply a pea sized amount of .025% Tretinoin
formula from Apostrophe - Topical Formula
-and of course some Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant on my lips before bed!
b.a.i.l.e.y
Update with the Process...
I'm going to be totally honest😔
I know it has only been a month with Apostrophe (and other recommended products by their derm) but so far I am not liking the outcomes.
The first week I started off by putting the prescription on 3 nights a week. My face definitely got irritated the first night which led to my decision on limiting the usage. I started to use the prescription everyday by the 3rd week.
Since then I have not felt like I've had any improvements on my acne.
I am not giving up just yet, but I do hope to see some improvement at least by March. 🤞
🌼Apostrophe - Topical Formula
🌼CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion
🌼CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin
🌼CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser
🌼Neutrogena - Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer

Teen Acne Help!
I have been struggling with acne for around 2 years now and in the past 1.5 months i upped my skincare to what i currently have! I use the app skincare to organize and simplify my routine to make sure everything isn’t conflicting when i use it.
Cleansers:
CeraVe - Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skin I use this 1-4 times a week at night or in the morning during a breakout, making sure to not use the PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator with it.
In the mornings i mostly cleanse with water and will use another cleanser occasionally during a bad breakout.
CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin I recently bought this cleanser for a more gentle cleanse without as many direct acids as my SA one. I don’t currently have it where i am but i will use it mostly at night and a few times in the morning.
Neutrogena - Fresh Foaming Cleanser I also bought this one recently for a gentle cleanse for where i currently am (divorced parents) and i use it at night and in the mornings every once in awhile.
Exfoliaters:
The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution I use this every 1.5 weeks on my tzone and cheeks for 10 minutes.
PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator I will use this in the mornings without a cleanser on all of my face concentrating on my forehead.
Serums:
The main serum i use about once a day is the The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% because it doesn’t directly conflict with most of my products. i do not use the NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% at the same time as this. I will occasionally use the íUNIK - Tea Tree Relief Serum also. I recently bought the CeraVe - Skin Renewing Retinol Cream Serumbut have only used it once without anything else.
Moisturizer:
The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA I love this moisturizer bc it makes my skin feel amazing! I use it everyday and apply a pea sized amount as directed by the ordinary & deciem.
Sunscreen:
I ALWAYS apply sunscreen after everything i do on my skin, never skipping it.
sun bum - Original 'Face 50' SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion this is my current favorite sunscreen that i use everyday. it doesn’t make me breakout as far as i know.
i also have this sunscreen though i rarely use it
BLUE LIZARD AUSTRALIAN SUNSCREEN - Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30+
Those are my current products that are in circulation. my average routine is morning wash with water and apply niacinimide by the ordinary and moisturizer and sunscreen. I will use a cleanser at night with the same serum or a different one and my mousturizer and sunscreen!!!
please list any tips below for clearing my acne!

Hello everyone,
I downloaded this app in hopes that some of you who have experienced this or are currently going through the same situation could help me! Help PLS :(
Hi! So I’m breaking out way more than usual, I’m getting a few really large pimples and the rest is small whiteheads. I’m trying to keep my routine as simple as possible. I just need help in knowing if these products are even good for me or if I’m just purging and unfortunately have to wait it out lol. I just want to know if I’ll ever feel pretty again bc my face wasn’t this bad until quarantine.
For reference I’m combination skin and probably have hormonal acne bc most of my acne is jawline/chin area idk lol help pls :(
