Do You Need An Eye Cream?

avatar
Skinsitive
Short answer? No. Long answer? No. Eye creams are all advertising- brands selling you a moisturizer in a smaller bottle and pretending it’s somehow superior to another moisturizer. It’s not. I love the eye creams I’ve featured in this photo, but moreso because they feel nice and I like a twenty-step skincare routine, not because they’re miracle cures. This skincare myth doesn’t offer long-term help for your puffiness, dark circles, fine lines, or wrinkles. Let’s talk about what does help them: • Puffiness and Dark circles are generally a genetic, lifestyle, and/or environmental issue. Allergies? See it around eyes. Not very hydrated? See it around eyes. Not enough sleep? See it around eyes. Drink more water, reduce sodium/alcohol/caffeine intake, get more sleep, and consult a doctor about any seasonal allergies. As well, the puffiness/dark circles may be due to fat distribution in the face, something that worsens with age. Wear sunscreen to preserve what collagen you can and visit a dermatologist to talk about filler for a visibly-noticeable long-term fix. Until then, I’m a fan of Glossier. - Stretch Concealer
over Glossier. - Bubblewrap Eye + Lip Plumping Cream
to keep my hereditary dark circles under control. • Fine lines and Wrinkles are a touchy subject. The main offense is a good defense: apply a fragrance-free (all good skincare should be fragrance-free though) moisturizer to your entire face- including around your eyes, where skin is thin and fragile. Repeat the process with sunscreen. Voila, you’ve staved off wrinkles another day! Want to try a more “active” approach? Lightly apply a collagen-stimulating peptide serum and/or a gentle retinol cream. However, when the fine lines and wrinkles have already developed, no topical product is going to be as effective as biting the bullet and getting some filler- I’d sooner save my $$$ for the dermatologist’s office than on an eye cream that claims to be able to erase years off my future crow’s feet.

LifeofLizaThis post was needed! The hype of an eye cream is so overrated. Thank you for saying it out loud. 👏🏼😁

2020 empties and new goodies!!
here are all of my 2020 empties!!! i went ahead and categorized them by brand so that i dont get things mixed up. etude house ——————— ETUDE - SoonJung pH6.5 Whip Cleanser my favorite fungal acne safe cleanser!! its perfect for dry combo skin! ETUDE - Etude House SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner a great fungal acne safe hydrating toner! better for dry skin, it would sometimes leave me oily at the end of the day. drunk elephant ————————— DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum although this serum isn’t fungal acne safe, my skin seems to enjoy it. it has a gel texture and actually regulates my oily forehead DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream another non fungal acne safe products. BUT doesn’t cause me to have breakouts!! its a thicc cream but doesn’t leave me feeling oily!! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream Deluxe Sample again... not fungal acne safe but STILL didn’t cause me to have any breakouts!! the protini feels similar in terms of thickness and the over all feeling on the skin but it feels more “ wearable “ first aid beauty ————————— FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Oil-Control Moisturizer i was super excited to tey this out because the ingredients are fungal acne safe and the claims were ideal for my skin type but sadly i was disappointed 😞 it didn’t control my oil but rather left mw with this shine on my forehead! and it didn’t moisture my dry cheeks. epic fail FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream this is a very basic fungal acne safe moisturizer i recommend to literally every one. i do like it and all but i find my skin still breaking out while i use this product. i would give it a 3 1/2 stars but i cant. CUROLOGY!!!! ———————— Curology - Curology formula Curology - Curology formula if you have fungal acne THIS is the treatment you NEED to try!!! my holy grail!! naturium ————— NATURIUM - Marine Hyaluronic Water Cream NATURIUM - Marine Hyaluronic Water Cream technically this moisturizer isn’t fungal acne safe because it contains polysorbate HOWEVER its one of the last ingredients listed so its not likely to have any affect. this is my FAVORITE MOISTURIZER!!! super affordable and feels luxurious and its amazing on my combo skin NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% my favorite fungal acne safe niacinamide serum!!! its affordable and it does exactly what it claims to do. literally cant get any better than this other lonely products ————————————- boscia - Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer this is a fungal acne safe moisturizer however its not very good at moisturizing or controlling oil 😕 but the packaging is cute i guess

December challenge PT 1
Sorry I'm catching up on this one, I posted it a few days ago and it disappeared 🙁 so I'm redoing it now 😁 Here's my fave products broken down: Day 11 - SPF: I only have one face sunscreen, sun bum - Original 'Face 50' SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion but I'm looking into getting the Supergoop! - The Jet Set SPF Kitbc it includes an Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 401 oz and a Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50 With Sunflower Extract1 oz - pretty good deal and only $28 (Sephora) Day 12 - moisturizer: it's a tie between Glossier. - Priming Moisturizer Rich Luxurious Face Cream and Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cream for me; I love them both so much and swear by both. Day 13 & 14 - face oil and mask: to be honest, I don't have a favorite of either, since I don't really use face oils/never really looked into them, and most masks cause an allergic reaction or redness of some sort. Every mask I've used has bothered me by making me all red and causing some mild acne, but one hasn't done anything bad, and its the Glossier. - Moisturizing Moon Mask . It's not my favorite product but I give it credit for not causing any rxns, plus 4/5 stars bc it did moisturize pretty well. Day 15 - eye product: I like my Glossier. - Bubblewrap Eye + Lip Plumping Cream and Kiehl's - Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado(haven't used the Kiehl's one enough to rate) Day 16 - lip product: I love the L'ORÉAL - Colour Riche Lipcolour and have a bunch of them. I recently got a ARMANI beauty - Lip Maestro Midi Set (it's called mini set, there's a typo I guess) and these Armani lippies stay in place no matter what and are very pigmented too. Days 17-20 in my part 2 post! (most recent)

My skincare (normal to oily sensitive skin)
My current routine! I have ups & downs & some I want to improve but this is what it’s currently at! Not pictured: TATCHA - Calming Foaming Enzyme Powder Absolutely love! Was going back & forth between this version & the one for oily skin but this one is juuuuuust right for my picky skin!! Pictured: (in order of use) TATCHA - The Essence Plumping Skin Softener Omg-it’s a game changer! This stuff may just look like fancy water (lol who am I kidding-I use evian - Brumisateur Natural Mineral Water Facial Spray so yeah-THATS fancy water but I love it! lol) but this stuff is 100% the real deal! I’ve noticed that products glide one & I don’t have as much of the shiny effect after putting on my skincare routine! Yay! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Shaba Complex Firming Eye Serum Ok so warning on this one-you’ll never use a full pump unless you share with 2 other people at the same time-this pump is stupid-I hate it but the product so far has done a good job & hasn’t made me run to go find a new one right away-could it be improved...? Yeah-but it’s a good option for me for now 😊 also-I don’t like using this by itself cuz it’s drying... so for a fix to that I added.... DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream One again-you don’t need a full pump unless you’re sharing-no one has that much surface area to cover with this...ugh. This is the step that was missing when I just was using the firming serum-this is hydrating & goes after because it’s thicker. The combo works for me. Would I rather have 1 product? Yes. Would I rather have a better pump that doesn’t portion out share sizes of product? Yes.... am I rushing to Sephora to find a new one? Ha! No.... Curology - Curology formula My 2 cents on those people who hate this? It’s not for you & that’s ok! But dang does this work for me!! It’s a must have!! Love it!! -or- never and DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum I haven’t used this enough to rate but this is supposedly suppose to help with dark spots & pores? We shall see tester size...we shall see... TATCHA - The Water Cream Omg moisture heaven! Smells like a spa, glides on like a dream AND has gold in it? Sign me up! This stuff is amazing-I love it & it does wonders for me! Add ons! TATCHA - THE SERUM STICK Not in love-good for dry spots or singular areas every once in a while but meh-not worth it & not a fave of mine. TATCHA - Luminous Dewy Skin Mist Also-not in love. Is it nice when I’m dried out? Yeah! Does it last? Nooooot really? Meh-I have it I’ll use it & I won’t buy again... TATCHA - Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++ Meh-this is just....meh. Again will use it up & not rebuy....

🎪DRUNK ELEPHANT - The Trunk 4.0 This kit comes fully stocked with everything you need for a truly complete skincare routine & a swift getaway! 🛩☁️ I wouldn’t travel right now, even if you paid me. Covid numbers aren’t going down & I take these facts very seriously. Haven’t had contact with almost anyone since March, because I do have a neurological disease that could put me at risk. I can’t tell anyone what to do... but do I urge you to consciously protect strangers while protecting yourself & your loved ones. My condition is one often referred to as an “Invisible Illness”. Many people have health conditions that others don’t outrightly see. Most people think I’m completely able-bodied unless I’m seen limping or having convulsions. I’ve only had this condition since 2014, so it’s been an adjustment & learning experience for my own prejudgements as well. 🧳My bf really likes the Monos locking suitcase & encouraged me to purchase this while the big Sephora sale was going on. He has to travel for his essential-work sometimes & this is a perfect carry-on size! It’s just as wide & deep as the ‘Monos Carry-On’ ($293) & only 4” shorter. specs: 18” high x 14” wide x 9” deep. Monos describes their Carry-On as: Designed to comply with the size restrictions of as many airlines as possible, & fits in the overhead bin of nearly any flight. So I think this slightly shorter rolling suitcase would 99% likely be accepted as a carry-on. 💚Really impressed with the quality! Drugstore v. Luxury Foundation
Is it me or is it always a struggle to find a good foundation?? anyone? well guys, here we go! I usually try to match a foundation stick with a liquid foundation or a creamy concealer with a matte foundation! In the purple sweater photo, I’m wearing MAYBELLINE - Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation & Glossier. - Stretch Concealer ! I’ve haven’t used maybelline in *years*. I used to use it in high school literally every day but decided to take a break and dive into more luxury, clean skincare... ...which leads up to the photo in a black pullover, I’m wearing ILIA - True Skin Serum Foundation & Milk MAKEUP - Flex Foundation Stick which I’ve been using the last year and a half but when I’m really dry on my face (mainly during winter), my face starts peeling ☹️ I think that’s it’s mainly the MM stick ugh but the verdict? both wear and stay very, very well throughout the day & feel SUPER weightless ~however~ I will probably stick with the maybelline foundation for now since I’m not wearing full face makeup everyday and the glossier concealer but don’t knock Ilia & the MM stick because both are really nice for a more sheer look but it is a bit $$$ I love going back and forth on both combos. I really need to try maybellines concealer due to cost to glossier’s but man oh man glossier’s stretch concealer is probably the best concealer I’ve tried thus far! 👏🏼 I hope this helps anyone trying to decide on a drugstore or luxury brand! both are great and definitely worth trying! I love having both options, especially depending on the need of the type of look I’m going for ✨ happy Monday, Cherie fam! 🌝

$10 eye cream everyone is talking about
No surprise here, another amazing g product at an affordable price by @theinkeylist Brighten-I Eye Cream. $10 for 0.5oz/15ml @sokoglam @sephora @dermstore . It’s been positively reviewed by @womenshealth @byrdie @theklog @allure @cosmopolitan incase you want a second opinion. What it is: An undereye cream that combines skincare and cosmetics to give an instant illuminating and priming effect while providing long-term brightening benefits. Formulation: I’d describe it as a lightweight milky gel/creme that easily absorbs into skin. Doesn’t pill with other products which is key for me in an eye cream. Highlighted Ingredients: - 2% BRIGHTENYL™: Helps to brighten eye contour. - Mica Mineral 1%: Blends instantly to illuminates and brightens. - Grant-X 5%: Instantly blurs the look of fine lines. Ingredient Callouts: Free of sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, and triclocarban, and contains less than one percent of synthetic fragrances. This product is also vegan and cruelty-free. What Else You Need to Know: Four times more potent than vitamin C this helps undereye cream reduces the appearance of dark circles, while also helping to instantly illuminate and prime the undereye for an instant boost or an ideal make up base. TL:DR: Honestly I can’t believe this is so affordable. It’s a legit good formula and the applicator is amazing (cooking metal that depuffs as you apply/gentle on delicate eye area. The @theinkeylist can do no wrong in my opinion. I plan to try their cult caffeine eye cream next to see which formula I like better .

Affordable and works?
Affordable and works?
THE inkey LIST - Caffeine Eye Cream Not a bad eye cream! It has slightly done something for my dark circles in the past three weeks but hasn’t assisted in the eye wrinkles. That’s the main reason why I bought it so my makeup will stop settling in the lines, but it’s nowhere near empty so I’m still giving it a fair shot. It has no scent(a plus), it’s very light and actually moisturizes around my eye. I’ve had these wrinkles for at least 7-8 years so I’m gonna give it some more months of use

alrighty it’s finals week so u already know: no sleep = dark under eye bags. 😣😣 i usually don’t use eye creams daily because my eye bags aren’t so bad to begin with, but during finals week and other weeks of stress i’ll put a layer of this on for preventative measures. it has vitamin c and cucumber extract for firmer and stronger skin and you already know drunk elephant is all about that clean skincare. worth it?? ⭐️⭐️⭐️ while i do notice an improvement in puffiness and darkness, i can only use this in the PM because the texture is a little weird. it doesn’t really seep into the skin and just lays on top, so i wouldn’t recommend using this in the AM. it is sheer, but u can definitely see it under your eyes because it reflects off of light. the full size of this product is 64$ for a 15mL but my smaller 5mL tube was from their littles set. i’ve had my small tube for about 6 months now and it still hasn’t depleted yet ( because you’re not using much product)

Bye Bye Dark Circles
Bye Bye Dark Circles
My dark circles game changed when I finally had my hands on the @olehenriksen Banana Bright Eye cream. At first I was indecisive about buying this product, being a part of this lovely community I decided to set up a poll to help me choose what cream I should prefer, hands down Olehenriksen won. All I regret right now is not making that decision earlier! Majority of the eye creams available in the market target fine lines, wrinkles, & hydration. While they work amazingly well too, but lack the ingredients to realm the dark under eye bags. Here comes in picture this eye cream, a perfect combination of all of these above mentioned plus under $40 - now i know why it is a cult favorite. Did you know it was inspired by the idea of "banana setting powders"?? The product contains ingredients like vitamin C which helps for firming & brightening, aloe, orange & green tea which helps immensely for dark circles, collagen which helps for hydration, reducing wrinkles. While other eye creams cause creasing below the under eyes when used under makeup this cream sits perfectly under makeup specially concealers. I have been obsessing over this eye cream from the moment I opened it, using it daily for day & night time routine. It instantly brightens my under eyes while I observe a reduction in my wrinkles. The consistency is not very thick and also has a banana color tint to it. Using the eye cream alone makes you feel like you have snapped a filter around your face and makes you confident. I am totally hooked to this cream and have recommended it to so many. Suddenly all my other eye creams I wanted to use for review have gone back into the drawer! I want to hold onto this so bad!! If you are eyeing for a good eye cram look no further - here is your pick! (no, it is not sponsored)!! Buy it now, thank me later!! 🌟

Caffeine eye serum needs more perk!
Caffeine eye serum needs more perk!
The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Serum is an eye cream that claims to hydrate the eye area and reduce the appearance of puffiness, fine lines, and bags. It contains featured ingredients like caffeine to depuff and Matrixyl 3000, a peptide, to reduce the look of wrinkles. It has the light weight texture of a water-cream. It is not thick, but not too runny either. Upon application, it sinks into the skin really easily with a gentle patting motion, which is ideal for the delicate eye area. I like that this eye cream has a refreshing, cooling sensation upon application. It is gentle on the eyes and has never made my sensitive eyes feel irritated or watery. It also hydrates nicely and helps to plump up my fine lines immediately after application. BUT I don’t find this hydration to be long lasting at all. The effect on the lines is not long lasting either. Within 2 hours my undereyes feel dry again. While it is a nice, thin base especially under concealer, it just does not provide me with enough hydration to last throughout the day. I also don’t notice any of the depuffing effects as claimed. I think this cream would be great for someone who does not have a super dry under-eye area and is looking for a simple, gentle eye cream. It is only $10 so it comes at a very affordable price point. I think this would be well suited to someone in their 20s, but it is not effective enough for those who are 30+ like me. I will continue to use the product in conjunction with a thicker cream or oil on top, however I won’t be repurchasing this one for myself. THE inkey LIST - Caffeine Eye Cream

I had never heard of this brand until I was looking for a caffeine eye serum. I had originally bought one from The Ordinary but was not super impressed, which is how I came across this brand. I bought both the caffeine serum and the brightening eye cream, and I have come to absolutely adore this eye cream! It comes with a cool, metal applicator tip, which really just feels so nice in the morning on your eye area. The product itself is a shimmery, white color. I think it helps more with dark circles than depuffing, but works great in conjunction with the caffeine serum. The iridescent color of the cream really helps to brighten the under-eye and decrease any darkness. The product is only $10, so I definitely recommend it!! THE inkey LIST - Brighten-i Eye Cream
