How I Treated My Hormonal Acne
I struggled with hormonal pustule acne for a long time, as well as pustules and whiteheads from oil overproduction. It was moderate to severe, covering my left and right cheeks. Three specific products helped to reduce my breakouts in frequency, coverage, redness, and the level of pain associated with the inflammation. PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster

Acne sufferers need to read!!!
I have been getting acne since my early teen years, all the way until I was 28 years old. After 1 year of research and a ton of money spent, I have finally learned how to get rid of my acne and so can you! If you suffer from acne and don’t know what could be causing it, the problem could be rooted right into your skin care routine! Comedogenic ingredients (pore clogging) like coconut oil and sodium chloride have the highest comedogenic ratings and you would be surprised at how many companies use them in their products!! Products that say that they are meant to get rid of acne! These companies want your money and they want you to think that it is YOUR skin that is the problem and not THEIR products, so that you will keep SPENDING MONEY ON THEIR PRODUCTS!!!! Google search, “Comedogenic ingredients” and stop using your products if they contain a comedogenic ingredient with a rating higher than 2. Shea butter and argan oil are 2 examples of noncomedogenic, non pore clogging oils that are amazing for acne prone skin! Added fragrance is also an ingredient that can aggravate skin. Synthetic fragrance is a biggie but also natural fragrance like essential oils in leave on products. Citrus oils like lemon or orange in rinse off products like a cleanser or cream mask is good for skin, though. It took a lot of time, money, research and trials and errors but I am happy that my skin is finally clear and that I can help others get to this point as well! My non comedogenic skin care regimen: All of my skin care is cruelty free brands. That’s all I will use when it comes to anything I buy. Cruelty free. 🐰💗 Any of these 3 non comedogenic chemical free cleansers: ANDALOU NATURALS - Age Defying Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk ANDALOU NATURALS - Cleansing Gel, Citrus Kombucha, Clear Skin ANDALOU NATURALS - Brightening Meyer Lemon Creamy Cleanser Mask (2-3 times a week) : ANDALOU NATURALS - Glycolic Mask, Pumpkin Honey, Brightening Moisturizer: HONEST - Hydrogel Cream Extras: Once a week: The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Every other day: The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA Once a week (*Tip: Leave on for no longer than 15 minutes. DO NOT let the clay dry on your face before rinsing it off. If it starts to feel dry after 5 minutes, rinse! It all depends on how dry your skin is at the time of application. If your skin is dry, the faster the mask will dry on your skin.): AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay Alternate nights of the lactic Acid 10%: The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% withPAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster

1. PAULA'S CHOICE - RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser obsessed with this cleanser 2. BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE - Lotion P50 I have read a lot about the magic of this product, I think it works well but haven’t seen the amazing results people describe. Smell is strong but you get used to it 3. PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster just started this AM/PM but like it so far, some acne scars have lessened 4. CAUDALIE - Vinoperfect Brightening Radiance Serum don’t see any changes with incorporating the product, but the smell is fresh and the consistency is light 5. PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster this is really helping clear my skin 6. Avène - Skin Recovery Cream I’ve tried thousands of moisturizers and this is my favorite. It goes on super light, soaks in quickly and has no smell. Highly recommend 7. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 60 Face Sunscreen for Combination Skin SPF 60 usually sunscreens break me out but this one has been relatively innocuous. It also sets in rather quickly. Can sometimes leave a white-ish residue so need to blend in well

🔍Worth the Hype? Niacinamide Edition✨
⭐️ Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3, a wonderful ingredient that can benefit the majority of people as a result of its gentle nature. This ingredient is found in plenty of skin care and is a gentle topical treatment for acne and eczema It can be combined with nearly any ingredient in a skin care routine. With the exception of Ascorbic Acid/the pure form of Vitamin C 🍊 ⭐️ BENEFITS: 🤍Skin Barrier: can help your skin grow a ceramide lipid barrier, and promote skin protein repair, which in turn, helps retain moisture 🤍Redness & Blotchiness: reduces inflammation which may help ease redness from eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions 🤍Minimizes Pore Appearance: keeps skin smooth and moisturized (May over time naturally reduce the size of pores) 🤍Oil Production: regulates amount of oil the sebaceous glands produce, while also helping with moisture retention ***helping your skin hit that perfect moisture level 🤍Sun Damage Protection: reinforces the skin barrier to better protect healthy skin cells from UV ray damage 🤍Hyperpigmentation : 5% niacinamide concentrations can be helpful in lightening dark spots. Benefits were seen after four weeks - two months 🤍Minimizes Fine Lines/Wrinkles: 5% concentration was helpful in reducing some signs of sun damage that come with aging 🤍Acne: especially with inflammatory forms like papules and pustules, you may see fewer lesions and improved skin texture ⭐️Is it worth it? Considering Niacinamide has good research supporting its claims, thousands of positive reviews, and a nonirritating ingredient, then I would definitely recommend trying it. I loved my results after a few months, I am happy to now try the Ordinary. Especially for 6$ a pop (a highly inclusive price range🖤)! ⭐️What About my Sensitive Skin Rarely do people experience allergic reactions to Niacinamide, however, when trying any new product, (particularly active ingredients) concentrations matter ⚠️If you’ve NEVER used Niacinamide as a topical treatment then hitting your skin with a 10% concentration may cause a sudden reaction ‼️This does NOT automatically mean you’re unable to use Niacinamide ⚠️ If you shave your face or have broken skin/sores, avoid using until your next ⚠️ If prone to sensitivity then be weary of how you combine with high concentrations of irritating ingredient (e.g. BHAs) ⭐️Listen to your Skin: Your skin sends good & bad signals to let you know what works, so pay attention! Acclimate your skin to new products & patch test. Introduce serums at low concentrations (e.g. 5%) & find niacinamide in leave on treatments (e.g. toner & moisturizer) ‼️ burning and severe irritation? wash off immediately Other Products to Explore: Benton - Snail Bee High Content Skin (Toner) THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum SOME BY MI - AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner COSRX - Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster
INGREDIENT SPOTLIGHT: Niacinamide
I’m sure everyone these days have heard about the benefits of niacinamide ☺️ this big word is a key ingredient in many products that boast big promises for your skin, but what does it actually do? Well let’s break it down... Niacinamide is a great ingredient because it is beneficial to basically any skin type 😲 Yes you read that right... EVERY SKIN TYPE! Due to the ingredient being a relatively low irritating active, it can be used to treat a large range of skincare needs 😍 Niacinamide can help with skincare concerns like: acne pores hyperpigmentation dehydration redness aging Sounds promising right? Let’s hear more 🥰 Niacinamide can be used to: minimise fine lines and wrinkles increase ceramide production minimise pore appearance treat redness with anti-inflammatory properties boost collagen production by repairing the skin barrier and increasing free fatty acid levels in the stratum corneum (top layer of the skin) treat hyperpigmentation and melasma by inhibiting melanin production regulate sebum production and improve oily/acne prone skin increase skin’s tolerance for retinoids ease symptoms of eczema With these amazing skin benefits, it’s clear to see why niacinamide has become a reputable ingredient in skincare. 😍😍😍 Here are some product recommendations that incorporate niacinamide: ❤️ The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% This is one of the best niacinamide serums on the market and considering the price point, it’s always sold out. You can see a noticeable difference in your skin after just one month of using this product. However, this serum does have a tacky finish that some people aren’t fond of. ❤️PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster This booster is great for beginners who are looking to introduce niacinamide to their skincare routine. To make sure your skin gets use to the ingredient, add this booster to your favourite moisturiser to supercharge it’s effects before gradually increasing the percentage of niacinamide in your skincare. ❤️PAULA'S CHOICE - Niacinamide 20% Treatment This higher percentage treatment should only be used by those who have incorporated niacinamide in their skincare for a period of time. Due to the high percentage, it may irritate skin that has not been introduced to niacinamide before. This treatment is great for spot treating particular skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation. Hope you’ve learnt a little bit more about the ingredient niacinamide and let me know if you’ve integrated it into your skincare routine!!

You might already know that Sunday Riley UFO Facial Oil is my holy grail for treating any kind of acne: blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts, you name it! But then, I saw beaute defile use this Paula's Choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster as a spot treatment in one of her Instastory. That's enough reason for me to give it a go! So what is it? Paula’s Choice Azelaic Acid Booster is a multi-action booster that suits all skin types and targets acne, hyper-pigmentation and uneven skin tone. It includes 10% concentration, but it also incorporates other ingredients like 0.5% Salicylic Acid and other brightening plant-based ingredients. Research has shown that a 10% concentration is gentle enough but still can improve many of the visible imperfections. Azelaic acid is a naturally-occurring ingredient which is present in the skin. It can also be derived from grains like wheat and barley. It helps acne by regulating the production of keratinocytes (skin cells), which prevents them from building up and clogging your pores. It also supposed to help fading dark spots that acne leaves behind as it selectively target the hyperactive pigment-producing cells. The formula is lightweight and has cream-gel consistency. It's smooth and not grainy, which means it's formulated properly. It spreads quite thinly and absorbs really well as I didn't have to worry about it pilling up. I’ve been using it for a month as a spot treatment at night. I apply it before my moisturizer, message it directly to the acne and let it sink in for few minutes until it doesn't feel tacky anymore. I also don't feel any sensation at all on my skin when I apply it. I found this product helped to make active acne come to a head just in one night! And it seemed to work really well on deep painful cysts. They are much smaller, less painful, and they disappear in just a few days instead of a couple of weeks. It works the best when you put this on as soon as you feel the cyst rising. Here's the best part: no. flaky. skin! However, I didn't notice any improvement on my acne scars yet. The other great thing about this product is that it’s seriously affordable!

PAULA'S CHOICE-Antioxidant Pore Purifier
I didn’t know how much I needed this product in my life until I got it 😅 I have pretty clear skin as it is, but if I get a hormonal break out then it scars and says there forever. I was looking for something to work with my AHA/BHA serums to fix this. Since using this, I’ve breakouts to heal much quicker, and previous scars are slowly starting to disappear. It’s a light and fluffy cream that can be either used on its own or it can be mixed with another serum, oil and even a moisturizer. I would for sure recommend this product because of it proved effectiveness and the price is quite reasonable 😍PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster

Exfoliants: Which One Should You Be Using?
I have combination skin and suffer from hormonal acne as well as eczema. I utilize exfoliants for a variety of reasons, but my main goals are fading hyperpigmentation and improving skin texture, as well as preventing blemishes. With exfoliation, less is more. Frequent use of the same type, or too many types, of exfoliation can compromise the skin barrier, leading to redness, sensitivity, irritation, itchiness, dryness, flaking, increased breakouts... just, a lot of bad stuff. So I try not to use the same form of exfoliation successively- that is, if I use a BHA one day, I’ll wait a day before using it again. I choose different exfoliants depending on my goals: • Physical: My favourite physical exfoliant is DRUNK ELEPHANT - JuJu Exfoliating Bar since it’s the bamboo and charcoal granules are tiny and round, allowing for gentle sloughing away of dead skin cells. Physical exfoliation really helps with texture and can help unclog pores as well. This is one of the most easy-to-misuse forms of exfoliants, so be sure to not overscrub or overuse! • AHAs: Alpha hydroxy acids are synonymous with the word “peel”. They unglue dead skin cells, offering effective surface exfoliation that leads to smoother texture and a radiant glow. I personally don’t really care for most AHA products, as they’re too abrasive for my sensitive skin. I love PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Lotion but use it only 1-2 times per week, as I prefer... • BHAs: Salicylic acid is my favourite chemical exfoliant. Oil-soluble, it exfoliates more deeply and effectively than AHAs, clearing out pores yo reduce congestion and help prevent acne. It’s also more gentle than most AHAs. I love and recommend PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) Liquid Exfoliator for anyone that suffers from acne, enlarged pores, or blackheads, as well as uneven texture due to congestion. I usually use it 3-4 times per week, but have reduced to twice per week due to starting tretinoin. • Azelaic Acid: Azelaic acid is unique in that it’s not an AHA or a BHA. It’s actually an antioxidant already naturally present in the skin! It not only offers exfoliation similar to AHAs, but does so more gently and has stronger efficacy when it comes to fading dark spots. It’s also amazing at preventing blemishes, thanks to being antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. I recommend PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster for those struggling with acne, dark spots/PIH/hyperpigmentation, and uneven tone, it’s my absolute favourite when it comes to Azelaic Acid products due to the texture and gentleness!

Why niacinamide is my holy grail ingredient...
Okay so this product is a new love for me. I need to delve into a story time for you guys... So last year I started using The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc serum after hearing rave reviews from people with cystic acne and pimples and it gave me CHEMICAL BURNS. Horrifying experience all around. So I ditched it, and swore off niacinamide forever... That is until I tried the Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask which has a high-ish concentration of niacinamide...and it didn’t break me out. So then after a while of only having niacinamide in my routine in that mask, I thought I should go with a higher quality niacinamide formula and ended up splurging on the Paula’s Choice 10% niacinamide booster: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster My skin type is sensitive, rosacea acne-prone, and before I used this product I had insane “orange peel” skin texture where the majority of my pores live. Wait wait, back up: what does niacinamide even do???! Well, it reduces sebum production in the skin which in turn makes your pores appear smaller but this is usually only with the use of a BHA to keep your pores cleaned out. I use this product mixed in with a hyaluronic acid toner or serum immediately after cleansing both AM and PM daily. This is the product that has made a huge difference in my skin texture the most. I am still wondering what is different between the Ordinary’s serum and this one, but I am never looking back! I would recommend this if you’re looking to “treat yo self” on a formula and you have orange-peel textured skin. This is kind of pricey at $44 for .67oz but when you’re only using a few drops a day, it lasts a very long time. I have been using it for about a month now and I am barely 20% through my bottle. I have to rate it 5/5 stars for my experience with it!!
