Ingredient Breakdown: Ceramides
Ceramides are a lipid that already exist in the strateum corneum, the outermost layer of skin. In fact, your skin is made up of around 50% ceramides! Ceramides hold together skin cells, preventing moisture loss and retaining firmness. UV damage and pollution destroy the number and quality of the ceramides in your skin, leading to loss of the supple feeling of skin, decreased visible smoothness, as well as increasing the likelihood of sensitivity and irritation. I love using ceramides to address both my sensitivity issues (hey eczema fam!) and for youth-promotion. For sensitivity, it shouldn’t take long to feel and see results like reduced redness and increased smoothness, but aging skin should expect a wait time of months for fine line and firmness improvement. I have combination skin, so I love these three products for adding ceramides to my routine without being too heavy for my oily forehead and nose, but offering the hydration my dry cheeks and eye areas need! Why to Add HA Serum to your Routine
The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid serum is a cult favourite. It has won an Allure Beauty Award in 2019. It retails for only $6.80 CAD. When winter came and I was noticing that my skin was feeling dry by midday it was an easy decision to add it to my routine! Claims It is a pure vegan hyaluronic acid that includes low, medium and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, at a concentration of 2%. It is supported by Vitamin B5 for enhanced hydration. It targets dryness. Good for all skin types. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Hyaluronic Acid helps plump fine lines and improves elasticity and dryness. It’s a great addition to your skincare routine once you are in your 30s to help with hydration, as the amount of HA in our skin decreases as we get older. HA is sugar that is found naturally in our skin. It can hold 1000x its weight in water. Eating a diet with lots of fruits & vegetables with antioxidants can also help us retain HA. HA can we found in HA serums, an addition to serums with other actives, and creams. HA plays well with most other ingredients. A cream or serum with HA in different molecular weights allows it to seep into different layers of skin. HA are typically less expensive than other serums such as Vit C. It works best when applied to a damp face or before a water-based serum or moisturizer because it pulls the water into your skin. Otherwise it could pull the water out of your skin. My Experience The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 The serum is clear and easily applies. I don’t experience any tackiness. When I first introduced this product to my routine I was using it AM & PM as it recommends, but I started noticing some irritation, red cheeks. I read some people can experience irritation from HA. I scaled back to only using in the AM. I put it on directly after my cleanser and before my Vit C serum. No more irritation. I have noticed that the dryness I was experiencing by midday is gone but I can’t say that I’ve noticed any difference in fine lines or wrinkles. A HA serum with more molecular weights and a higher percentage might have better results. But for $7 I can’t complain. Other HA to try include: VICHY - Minéral 89 Face Serum GLOW RECIPE - Plum Plump Hyaluronic Acid SerumPAULA'S CHOICE - Hyaluronic Acid Booster
You’re new best friend HYALURONIC ACID
Hyaluronic acid? Who is she? She’s your new best friend also called “hyaluronan” hyaluronic acid is found naturally in your body, it’s in your eyes, skin, and connective tissue (she does it all.) hyaluronic acid main function is to retain moisture, it can hold up to 1000x times it weight in moisture! So what is it gonna do? It is going to trap that moisture from the air suck it in and slap it right onto your pretty perfect face And keep your skin hydrated, smooth, plump, and cute! Once it does that it’s actually going to tell your sebaceous gland to slow down on the production of sebum, so if you have oily dehydrated skin this will work the wonders you’ve been looking for. Hyaluronic has plentiful of Benefits, it helps wounds especially from acne so it will help heal instead of scar. Sense your body produces hyaluronic acid it’s actually very rare for someone to have allergic reaction to this ingredient! What I’ve done is put together 3 products ranging from $5 to $100 let’s say hi and talk about them! The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 the ordinary brand has been making its way across social media and I have to say for around $5 you can’t beat it, it has 15 forms of hyaluronic acid & B5 that enhances hydration but one of the negatives is that it has a PH level of 6-7.5 your skin needs to stay between 4.5-5.5 so after using this product you will need a nice toner to bring your skin balance back down to the proper PH. PAULA'S CHOICE - Hyaluronic Acid Booster Paulas choice has been around for A long time! She knows what she’s doing out there 💋 after water hyaluronic is the 3rd ingredient in this product and has been apart of 7 RESEARCH STUDYS SENSE 2003! For a whopping $36 I think if you have the extra coin to try it! Now with this product there are more Pro reviews than there are CONS but on the CON side the main issue seems to be people are having reactions to other ingredients in this product. SKINCEUTICALS - Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier Serum THIS RIGHT HERE! She is one of the top products recommended by dermatologist out on the market she goes for a hefty $100 but lets dive a little deeper, 10% proxy lane which helps the hyaluronic acid levels on your skin stay balanced for a longer time 0.2% purple rice extract, helps preserve hyaluronic acid 1.3% hyaluronic acid (this is the golden number of how much hyaluronic acid you would want in a product) With these ingredients it’s amplifies hyaluronic acid by 30%! Hope this helped you beautiful people out just a little, please follow me for more product knowledge and next time we will dig deeper into KNOWING YOUR CORRECT SKIN TYPE! Stay beautiful stay sexy, you all are perfect the way you are💋❤️

Empties!!! Best of 2020
ACURE - Seriously Soothing Cleansing Cream A perfect gentle cleanse for dry, sensitive skin and does not feel like the skin is stripped at all. ll.ACURE - Ultra Hydrating Green Juice Cleanser Ideal for dry, dehydrated skin types. Very creamy consistency with a light lather effect. skyn ICELAND - Glacial Face Wash A creamy, clay type consistency that is ideal for normal to oily skin and offers a deep, refreshing clean. Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cream Incredible cream. If you have reactive, dry, sensitive skin or are allergic to fragrance, give this a try. It feels like a light emollient texture and makes the perfect night cream if you are more oily. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream Another amazing emollient night cream rich with Peptides and ceramides to keep your skin barrier protected. Also fragrance free. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum Instant relief for a dry, compromised barrier. It pairs beautifully under a moisturizer if you want extra nourishment. This serum also has ceramides and fatty acids but feels light enough to wear during the day. Once again, fragrance free. I loved all the products mentioned and will not hesitate to repurchase them. Let me know if you love them as much as I did!
Anti-Aging for Sensitive Skin
Now most people think of anti aging and grab products with a high amount of active ingredients in them to ensure they're getting the maximum amount of benefits The reality is that too many actives normally result in a damaged skin barrier that can only cause your skin to look further aged and fragile. For this reason, it's important to give actives a break and focus on soothing and gentle ingredients that will help sensitive skin looking youthful and fresh. Here are 2 examples of exceptional products that are perfect for gentle anti aging. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum I am fully satisfied with how nourished and hydrated my skin feels after putting this on. Some of the key ingredients include chia and flaxseed oils for those rich Omega fatty acids, which do wonders for your skin. This is also followed by olive oil and a bunch of ceramides. Perfect for a compromised barrier or overall sensitivity FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream Also very impressed with this product. The perfect nighttime emollient cream to leave your skin feeling buttery soft and plump the next day. The formula contains shea butter, oatmeal, jojoba esters and peptides for the perfect overnight repair. I would 100% recommend these for people with sensitive skin, dry skin, or damaged skin. I will certainly be repurchasing these as well.
The scoop about Hyaluronic acid...
I feel like we all know what Hyaluronic acid is, but where does it go in your routine? Do you NEED a Hyaluronic acid product in your routine? Read on... Hyaluronic acid was one of those products that for the longest time I thought it wasn’t for me—my skin at the time was quite oily and I thought that by adding hydration in my routine, I would get more breakouts. Well, this isn’t the case at all! I love using an HA serum when I need a little boost or elasticity in my skin. The two products I love with HA as a main ingredient are: YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 I feel like the most common way we recognize Hyaluronic acid is in serum form. My favorite is from The Ordinary—it is a super lightweight serum that I find best works when applied on wet skin. If I try to use it on dry skin it gets super sticky! It takes about 5-10 mins to soak in (I don’t constantly rub it in—I have sensitive skin so constant contact is not good for me) and doesn’t pill at all. Also, it’s super budget friendly and is available at both Ulta and Sephora so it’s widely available and accessible. It’s a great starter HA for anyone interested in trying it. Another way we see HA is in moisturizers. This is a very important aspect and ingredient to look for in gel moisturizer formulas since many gel formulas are oil free—you’re missing out on key hydration and moisture. The addition of HA in those formulas sets up an experience where you’re not feeling tight or dry throughout the day. My favorite moisturizer with HA is from Youth to the People. It’s super lightweight and absorbs very easily. I usually use a facial oil on top of it to seal it all in. Beware: it smells heavily of kale/earthy scent so if you’re not into that then I wouldn’t recommend it. However, it doesn’t bother me since I expect it now. What’s your favorite HA product? I found these through trial and error with other products and brands!

My Favourite Hydration/Moisture Products
Hydration and moisture are so, so important! I had the most oily skin for years and it never occurred to me to use a cream- so when I found my oil production subsiding a bit after introducing a hydration serum and moisturizer, I was amazed. Excess oil production can be the skin trying to moisturize itself via sebum. Here are my rec’s: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster contains such a variety of humectants that I consider it a hydrating serum. Hydrating while also balancing oil production, this is amazing for every skin type. stratia - Liquid Gold is packed with emollients and some humectants, making it a good serum for dry skin and the perfect moisturizer for oily skin. DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum helps to reduce oil production but primarily gives skin the hydration it craves. This is a good serum for all skin types but lacks the emollients to be a moisturizer. DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask is the perfect cream to use after an acid if your skin is sensitive. It’d be a great moisturizer (thanks to squalane) for oily skin and is a nice add-on for dry skin. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream worked for my skin when I was an oil slick and it saves my flaky face when my eczema goes Sahara desert. This fluffy moisturizer is perfect for all skin types, though dry skin in the winter may need to add an oil. The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a hydrating serum that is just what dehydrated and/or oily skin needs- however I’d caution users that hyaluronic acid can be drying if you live in an arid environment. It also doesn’t have the most elegant texture, so give it an extra minute to soak in! PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizer moisturizes without shine, managing to be rich yet soaking in very quickly. It may be a bit too light for dry skin in the PM but oily/combo skin will love it. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum If you have sensitive, combination, and/or dry skin, buy this. It contains emollients, humectants, and is perfect for soothing skin. Oily skin will also likely enjoy this serum for its surprising lightness, but in my experience it is too light to be used as a moisturizer.
PAULA'S CHOICE-10% Niacinamide Booster
So excited for this texture 😍! I'm so excited to try the Midnight Blue Calming Cream! It's been on my wish list for years! I'm also happy to get a chance to try the Youth Activating Drop - I didn't feel like it made a huge difference in my skin when I used it about a year ago but I'll definitely give it another shot. And I haven't had a chance to try the sheet masks so that should be fun! These products all feature guaiazulene, which is an extract derived from chamomile. It's highly calming and soothing to irritated skin and also acts as an antioxidant. I'm kind of loving these single brand beauty boxes! I feel like I'm able to test them better without feeling overwhelmed, and then I get to discover a new brand or really get to form some opinions about a brand.

Budget Brand vs High-End: $10 vs $54
Bakuchiol is a new, trending ingredient that has growing research behind it. Sourced from the babchi plant, it’s an antioxidant that is thought to offer benefits similar to retinol: smooth texture, even tone, diminish fine lines. The research isn’t as long-lived and consistent as that supporting retinol use, but it does seem promising. Its benefits as a soothing antioxidant have been established, which alone makes it worth trying out in your routine! But as for which product I’d recommend, as someone with super sensitive combination skin... 🌱 HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum Cost: $54 USD/30mL Texture: Jelly Serum; not thick enough to be a gel, more viscous than most liquids; soaks in quickly. Finish: Dewy; no shine, no stickiness, but more visibly hydrated. Skin Types: All! Results: Positive; but underwhelming. Overall: I had very low expectations for this serum- this one of only two Herbivore products I would ever repeatedly put on my face after disliking almost their entire line. But. This is actually pretty nice. The texture is unique, a gelatinous sort of almost-fluid that stretches and jiggles but soaks in quickly. The packaging is absolutely gorgeous, almost pretty enough to make it worth $54. But, it’s not. It is hydrating and does plump any fine lines that are worsened by dryness, but otherwise I only saw minor improvement in redness and no signs of any resurfacing or long-term lessening of fine lines. No acne aggravation or improvement. I wouldn’t purchase a full-size, but do enjoy the hydrating aspect enough to finish the other mini bottles I own. 🔬 THE inkey LIST - Bakuchiol Cost: $9.99 USD/30 mL Texture: Thin Lotion; silky and light; soaks in quickly. Finish: Satin; no shine, no stickiness. Skin Types: All; though it’s only moisturizing enough to be a stand-alone moisturizer for pretty oily skin. Results: Positive; as expected. Overall: Due to my experience with the Herbivore Bakuchiol, I had low expectations again- but this lotion surprised me! It doesn’t make my skin “dewy and bouncy” as the Herbivore did, but it did lightly moisturize and do something the purple serum did not: soothe. I used this alone as well as alongside retinol (like the Herbivore) and saw significant reduction in irritation from retinol use when using, enough so that I plan to use this every night that I’m applying Tretinoin or in the day when I apply benzoyl peroxide. It diminishes redness, flaking, and makes my skin not “itch” from the benzoyl peroxide. I didn’t see acne reduction or lessening of fine lines, but the soothing aspect alone is enough to get me to repurchase. Definitely worth it if you often experience skin inflammation and/or redness, retinoid-induced or otherwise!

I didn’t know I’d be this obsessed 😍
I am utterly HEART EYES over this exfoliating serum! I have sensitive skin and am often hesitant on trying exfoliants. This was my first introduction to a chemical exfoliant and to say I’m obsessed is a down play. I started off using this product once a week and now I have a schedule of using it every weds+fri. There’s a slight tingle upon application and it lasts about 30secs at max. After application I go ahead and apply my Versed moisturizer. In the morning I feel plump, dewy, and fresh! VERSED - SKIN SOAK Rich Moisture Cream After about a month of use this product has helped the overall texture of my skin and I see a major difference in skin tone. I will definitely be repurchasing and highly recommend this product for my sensitive skin friends 💕 FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum
