My Favourite Hydration/Moisture Products
Hydration and moisture are so, so important! I had the most oily skin for years and it never occurred to me to use a cream- so when I found my oil production subsiding a bit after introducing a hydration serum and moisturizer, I was amazed. Excess oil production can be the skin trying to moisturize itself via sebum. Here are my rec’s: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster
Face serums for skin relief

Which Niacinamide would you choose?
This is definitely not a dupe situation. These two formulas are only similar in the fact that they contain the same amount of niacinamide (as well as some texture and preservative agents). I’ve been a longtime user of The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and it does work, but I felt after my first bottle I wasn’t getting any continued results. I was also left unimpressed and looking for a different option due to the fact that this is a very tacky formula that can be difficult to work with. TO includes zinc in their formula which they state can reduce acne and can be anti-inflammatory. At $6 you’re getting your 2 active ingredients; niacinamide and zinc. PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster includes the same 10% of niacinamide but doesn’t stop there. They also add vitamin C and a BUNCH of calming, hydrating and restoring products that your skin needs (see attached ingredient list). It’s been a controversy whether or not vitamin C and Niacinamide can be used together, even The Ordinary suggests that their Niacinamide not be used at the same time as vitamin C. Many brands and consumers have disagreed. Paula’s Choice adds the protective ingredients to ensure you’ll have less of a chance of irritation. Paula’s Choice serum is a lightweight watery formula that leaves no residue and I find easy to work into my routine. I wasn’t quite prepared for the thin formula as The Ordinary has more of a tacky texture. I found it best to add it directly from the dropper to my face, versus my hands then face. When it comes to the price difference it does seem that The Ordinary would be the obvious choice. I’m not one that believes that quality skincare has to cost more. But Paula’s Choice formula offers much more than Niacinamide. You’re getting several ingredients that are not found in The Ordinary, hence the price difference. Once I’ve emptied my bottle I’ll be better able to determine if spending 4x’s the amount is worth it. I could choose to use a less expensive option and add the antioxidants and other skin-replenishing ingredients found in Paula’s Choices formula, but I have to admit, I do like the simplicity of fewer steps in my skincare routine. 😉 There are also several other options available that I’ve not yet tried. I have tried The Inkey List and it is just a tad bit less tacky than The Ordinary. Other brand options I’d be open to try are: Good Molecules $6 - formula looks similar to TO and TIL with the only active ingredient being niacinamide Naturium $16 - 10% niacinamide and 2% zinc Good Molecules $14 - similar again to TO and TIL I LOVE how Paula’s Choice lists their ingredients. Behind each one you’ll find out how it benefits the skin. This saves me a TON of time and effort when doing my reviews! Individual reviews on The Ordinary and The Inkey List Niacinamide can be found on my page. What’s your favorite Niacinamide to use? ❤️🍒
FINALLY! It’s mine!
This is one brand I’ve been stalking and I’ve finally got my hands on the highly raved, much talked about PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator I’d say what really draws me to this particular brand is its commitment to highly effective, well tested products. I feel they really listen to their customers and value their feedback. Well, imagine my surprise when in pops an email from a Paula’s Choice social media team member asking for my address to send me some products just for being me?!? I couldn’t respond fast enough with a...., “YES!” I’m not sure why I’ve been sleeping on this brand for so long. I follow so many diehard fans that swear and have visual proof of the changes their products have made. I have a feeling it’s all going to change after this... Just a little about PC if you haven’t heard of the brand (taken from the website) : Did you know that the founder, Paula was actually fired from her job working at a cosmetic counter for explaining to a customer what products could and couldn’t do for their skin? (This is what we need more of!! I was immediately drawn to the brand when I first heard about that!) Our Philosophy Science & Truth Highly Effective Formulary Excellence Non-irritating & Fragrance Free Multi-faceted Formulas Cruelty Free Packaged for Potency Environmentally Conscious On the website you can find Skincare Quizzes that can help you develop a Instant Routine or develop a more in-depth Routine at no cost! You can also find Expert Advice Articles on just about any subject you’re curious about. Have a question about ingredients? They have every ingredient known in the beauty industry—-a go-to resource for everyone! Everyone needs to use this! With Paula’s Choice you can choose individual skincare products or you can have an entire skincare routine developed from start to finish! I’ve had on my wishlist, along with the exfoliator I just received, their PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist C15 Super Booster PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster PAULA'S CHOICE - Peptide Booster PAULA'S CHOICE - Anti-Aging Eye Gel Honestly, I want to try it all! I’d probably start swapping out some of the products I currently use for similar items. For instance, I am looking for a replacement vitamin c so I’d trade mine out for theirs. Then the Niacinamide and Hyaluronic and so on. I’m definitely going to do the skincare quiz and see what’s recommended for me! Do you use any Paula’s Choice products? What’s your favorite? Please share! 😘 I’ll be back in a few weeks to tell you what I think of this exfoliator! ❤️🍒

Products Getting Me Through Winter! ❄
Since I can remember I've had oily to combination skin, until this winter. It's been a rough one! My skin has been SO dry, and it's hard to keep up with it. Especially since I'm prone to acne and clogged pores, so I can't use a lot of heavy creams and pore clogging products. These I wouldn't be able to live without this winter! COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence 🐌 I love this essence! This is a Korean product (Korean skin care will always be a hit). And it's made with Snail Mucin, weird right? This contains 96% snail mucin, which has incredible healing and antimicrobial properties. It promotes collagen production and aids in skin regeneration. And it's a top pick for dry skin types because of its amazing ability to hydrate. This has a jelly-like texture and I find myself ALWAYS reaching for this. Most of the claimed benefits do come with time. Another product I'm loving is the DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum 💧This is a serum that came in a DE kit and I really want the full size! This seriously feels like a cold drink of water for your skin. It's lightweight and spreads nicely. It not only has Sodium Hyaluronate, (which is like hyarulonic Acid on steroids) but also Pineapple Ceramide and provitamin B5, an amazing humectant. As well as a lentil/apple/watermelon complex. It's not crazy different from other Hyarulonic Acid serums I've tried, but it's great! I finally got to try the cult favorite DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream . And wow I'm glad I did! This cream does have a few possible pore clogging ingredients so I was afraid to use it, but It's helped my dryness so much! It feels sooo moisturizing and soothing. I love that this is a protein moisturizer that has peptides, growth factors, amino acids, and pygmy waterlily to improve your overall skin health. This is an amazing anti-aging and skin strengthening moisturizer. I love using this it's a great experience. I already reviewed this incredible product, the Glossier. - Balm Dotcom 👄 It's become a staple lip balm for me. It's extremely hydrating and packed with antioxidants and natural emollients. It has Castor Oil, Beeswax, and Lanolin to seal in moisture. It leaves my lips looking sooo hydrated and smooth. It's THE perfect lip balm and I am obsessed. Feel free to comment or ask any questions below 💗

Negative temps got me like...
Living in Wisconsin can be rough on the skin. Temperature dipping below zero and whipping wind are harsh. My winter routine is focused on hydration and keeping my skin barrier intact. Here are a couple of products I have had a good experience with this winter. 1. PURITO - Centella Unscented Serum I love this serum because it is unscented and A great ingredient list. Centella repairs a damaged skin barrier and soothe irritated skin. The Centella Asiatica Extract and Panthenol help calm the irritated skin preventing further inflammation. 2. DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask I use this on top of my moisturizer. The formulation includes a number of different barrier replenishing ingredients including its name sake vitamin F. 3. Krave - Great Barrier Relief GBR is a thicker serum that offers a blend of conditioning oils that helps repair the skin barrier while simultaneously helping with hyperpigmentation and breakouts. 4. EMINENCE - Clear Skin Probiotic Masque This brand was recommended to me by an esthetician. Not only is it moisturizing, but it helps clear your complexion. Formulated with cooling cucumber tones and refining yogurt, which exfoliates and eliminates the appearance of blemishes.
Babyfacial Sunday Got an Upgrade! ⬆️💜
My Babyfacial Sunday routine just got an upgrade! 👌🏼 I apply a thin, even layer of Babyfacial onto my skin & kick back and watch 90 Day Fiance for 20 minutes. Babyfacial, in short, is a professional grade AHA/BHA facial in a bottle - it not only exfoliates, but also revs up surface turnover to give you a more radiant, clear, smooth & youthful appearance. 💕 𝒩𝑒𝓌 𝒮𝓉𝑒𝓅 𝒜𝓁𝑒𝓇𝓉 🌟 After I rinse off Babyfacial and pat my skin dry, I spritz four sprays of Sweet B onto my skin, and lightly press it in. Sweet Biome is Drunk Elephant’s brand spankin’ new Fermented Sake Facial Spray! 💜 Formulated with fatty amino acids, electrolytes, & ceramides - Sweet B’s role is to replenish a healthy micro biome and support your skin’s acid mantle to keep it strong, smooth & balanced. Literally making it a perfect companion product for Babyfacial Sunday! 💜 I then follow up with 3 pumps of F-Balm and 2-3 drops of Virgin Marula Oil to help restore the skin & strength the skin’s acid mantle! 💦 Sweet B will be hitting shelves in January 2021; you can head over to drunkelephant.com to sign up for updates! 💭 DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. The Best Advice For Choosing Skincare Products
Hey Beauty’s 🙋🏽♀️ So I’ve recommended a lot of products and thought I’d share some advice on how how I select skincare products these days. ☺️ Thanks to @babesandbeauty on Instagram for the advice. Products that you consistently use I noticed that I consistently use TruSkin - Vitamin C Serum which has Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E as my day Serum. I also have The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 for my night routine. I’ve started using Truskin’s Super Serum at night and now alternate between using a natural Retinol or Vitamin A Moisturiser and the Truskin Super Serum which has Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, and Retinol. I now can’t live without my FORMULA 10.0.6 - Rise of the Foam Blemish Busting Cleanser I use this because of the salicylic acid and hemp oil as part of my double cleansing routine. I’m currently trialing products for my first cleanse. 😄 I noticed the ingredients are ideal for my issues which are rough texture, larger than average pores, dullness and my wrinkles and fine lines. For reducing the appearance of my fine lines and wrinkles I ❤️ hyaluronic acid!!!! Products that are ideal for your skin type I’m a little lucky in the fact that I have combination skin and can use a range of products for my issues. Treating the wrong skin type can lead to irritated skin, breakouts and premature aging. Choosing the correct skin care routine for your skin type is essential for making your skin appear youthful and healthy. Products that do not cause irritation to your skin barrier Our skin is the largest barrier against infection that we have. Keeping our skin healthy and moist helps keep this barrier strong. Using the proper skin care products for your skin type can help preserve this important protective layer. ☺️ Products that fit your budget and life The Ordinary creators have totally changed how we think about and buy skin care. Its allowed us to understand ingredients and offered them in ridiculously cheap formulas. It’s championed transparency in an industry that wants you to think expensive products are better. Nothing costs more than $20. In fact, the majority of it ranges at less than $10. This is largely in part thanks to The Ordinary's dedication to transparency, resulting in prices that aren't significantly marked up. Although if you can afford to spend $150 I’d recommend purchasing a Serum rather than a cleanser or moisturiser. Drop me a line about what you consider when you purchase skincare products. Is it the beautiful packaging, ingredient list or that you just saw a review and want to try it. ☺️ Have a wonderful day or evening Jade 🥂
When hydration is needed 💦
I am a dry skinned girl so I am always on the look out for hydrators and moisturizers. This is especially the case as I like to use actives in my routine and they can further dry out my skin. Hyaluronic acid is one of my go to ingredients as it draws moisture into my skin and it works well with other ingredients. The ordinary offers this serum which is great as it is super affordable and it works well with my skin. What is it: This is a hyaluronic acid serum with 3 different weighted molecules so that it can penetrate and hydrate different layers if the skin. Hyaluronic acids is a humectant meaning it absorbs moisture from the air and draws it into the skin. This serum also has b5 which helps nourish and soften the skin. Texture: This is a goopy and cloudy serum that is easily absorbed into my dry skin. Price: This sells at Sephora for $6.80 cad for 1 oz or $12.20 cad for 2oz How I use this: I use this along with my steamer to make sure that the air is moisture rich in order to draw moisture to my skin. This ensures I get the best result. Pros 👍: affordable 2 sizes available accessible effective cruelty free 🐰 Cons 👎: some people don’t like the texture you shouldn’t over use hyaluronic acid (check other products) The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 this is a super simple serum that has really helped my dry skin

drunk elephant review with fungal acne🐘💗
as someone with fungal acne, buying the same products can be reaaallyyy boring. so this is my review of drunk elephant as someone with fungal acne!! * disclaimer, NONE of these products are fungal acne safe!! use at your own risk * DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser this cleansing balm doesn’t really emulsify when you activate it with water, leaving a really oily feeling😕 and doesn’t remove all my makeup DRUNK ELEPHANT - Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser Deluxe Sample this is a really nice gentle foaming cleanser... and thats pretty much it. DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum i love this serum! its a lovely gel serum that absorbs in quickly and is greak at oil control DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum this serum is a little tricky, i haven’t really noticed a difference in my skin in terms if brightness, i do have a bit of dark spots and they haven’t budged. not to mention this formulation is a rip off of the SKINCEUTICALS - C E Ferulic With 15% L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Serum DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream this is a thicc moisturizer that surprisingly doesn’t leave my oily skin looking greasy af. its a good moisturizer for dry combo skin! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream this moisturizer feels exactly like the lala retro... its just 8 dollars more expensive DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial Mask this mask burns so bad the first 20 seconds but then it settles down. i really havent seen a difference in my skin so DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil ive only used this oil a few times but wow it really makes your skin feel super soft and dewy DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lippe Balm DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lippe Balm i love this lip balm but its 16 dollars and the claim are completely false! in conclusion, i wont be repurchasing anymore of drunk elephant products because in reality they are just good products... nothing too special ESPECIALLY for the price. they aslo didn’t want to provide information about the percentage of black employees during the Pull Up Or Shut Up movement so yeah. their aesthetic is cute but ive grown out of this phase 😀 like and save!! xo melanie

Rosacea: Liquid Gold Moisturizer Honest Review
stratia - Liquid Gold I was attracted to this moisturizer because one of my favorite sensitive skincare ladies swears by it. It’s an expensive moisturizer for me ($27), but I splurged on this and a few other items for Christmas. Initially, I used it as a moisturizer (2 pumps). I love the packaging, the bright color, the sticky texture, and the olive oil-like smell, but it’s thin and absorbed very quickly into my skin. I found that heat would rise to my face from the lack of moisture and over the course of a few days my skin got a LOT more red and textured. So I started using it as a serum before my moisturizer instead. Although my skin stopped feeling uncomfortable, I did find that it continued to be more textured, redder than usual, and I started breaking out (breakouts are pretty rare for me). I think 2 weeks is a good window of time to try out this product, and I just found that it wasn’t right for my skin. There are no ingredients that would react with my rosacea or sensitive skin more generally, but I think it’s too thin as a moisturizer and there are much better serums out there. It’s likely that the sea buckthorn oil irritated my skin, I don’t know what else it could’ve been! So, based off my experience, this product isn’t worth it to me. My skin looked worse while using it and pretty much immediately cleared up when I removed it from my skincare routine. It’s come to my attention that this reaction could’ve been my skin barrier in the process of repair, but without a derm to walk me through it I wasn’t willing to use it for another week. I’m sticking to my CeraVe PM moisturizer and Leo Oil, and playing with other serums that better target my needs. I’m still giving this moisturizer 3 stars despite my experience because I regifted it to a friend with super sensitive skin and he LOVED it. It’s working really great for him, so chances are it could work for you too! He’s in his early 30s with sensitive combo skin.
Stratia Liquid Gold= pure heaven for the face
I will first start off this review by saying, yes this stuff you’ve seen all over your social media feed does live up to the hype. Little background I bought it because I’m a dry skinned gal and I can always go for a hydrating serum. This has ceramides and rosehip oil in it so I’m like great the more the merrier. Boy was I in for a surprise. A good surprise don’t worry. I did not realize how wacked up my moisture barrier was until I started using this and noticed how soft and nourished my face felt. No matter what guys! Even after wearing a mask for 8 hours my face was no longer dehydrated or has those irritated little bumps on it I always get. But it was soft and smooth like I didn’t even wear a mask for 8 hours. To recap: yes this product is worth it, oh my god is it worth it. If I had to make a list of top 3 skincare products this would be number 1 it’s that good. Dry skinned people use this as a hydrating serum and you will love your skin! Oily or combo you can use this as a moisturizer (which is what it is advertised as) and you will love your skin too! Guys I recommend this for everyone! It’s also cheaper then krave beauty and you get more product! Double score! I highly highly highly recommend this oh my gosh! If there is one thing you need this winter or if there is one thing you want to buy with some Christmas money, buy this! You will not regret it! For this wondering about smell: it smells like rosehip oil because there is no added fragrance so if you don’t mind a bit of a earthy smell for the couple of seconds you smooth it onto your face you’ll be fine.

Anti-Aging for Sensitive Skin
Now most people think of anti aging and grab products with a high amount of active ingredients in them to ensure they're getting the maximum amount of benefits The reality is that too many actives normally result in a damaged skin barrier that can only cause your skin to look further aged and fragile. For this reason, it's important to give actives a break and focus on soothing and gentle ingredients that will help sensitive skin looking youthful and fresh. Here are 2 examples of exceptional products that are perfect for gentle anti aging. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum I am fully satisfied with how nourished and hydrated my skin feels after putting this on. Some of the key ingredients include chia and flaxseed oils for those rich Omega fatty acids, which do wonders for your skin. This is also followed by olive oil and a bunch of ceramides. Perfect for a compromised barrier or overall sensitivity FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream Also very impressed with this product. The perfect nighttime emollient cream to leave your skin feeling buttery soft and plump the next day. The formula contains shea butter, oatmeal, jojoba esters and peptides for the perfect overnight repair. I would 100% recommend these for people with sensitive skin, dry skin, or damaged skin. I will certainly be repurchasing these as well.

Skincare 101: the Basics
Three products are all you really need to care for your skin. Well, maybe not *you* specifically, but let’s be frank: most people don’t *need* a twelve-step routine to take care of their skin. If you’re starting off in skincare, your financial situation has changed, or your skin has been flaring with redness/flaking/breakouts, opt for a super simple routine for a month or two to see how your skin does without the extra frills. It may surprise you how little you need to keep your skin happy! • 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿: Cleanse with water in the morning, or opt for a hydrating cleanser if you’re oily, workout, or just enjoy cleansing often. Double-cleanse with that hydrating cleanser (and/or an oil-based balm) in the evening, or opt for a single cleanse with a gel or foaming cleanser. My milky faves are CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser and HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash , while my deep-cleansing faves are CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser and PAULA'S CHOICE - RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser . • 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿: Moisturize morning and night, regardless of your skin type! Look for products with ceramides and fatty acids to nourish the skin barrier. If your skin is more oily, opt for lightweight moisturizers like gels and lotions. If your skin is dry, creams and balms are going to be better for binding hydration and moisture to your skin. My faves for oily skin? CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion , VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream , and PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizer . My dry skin faves are NATURIUM - Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture Cream , THE inkey LIST - Peptide Moisturizer , and DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream . • 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: The most important step! Sunscreen is the ultimate anti-aging product, so reapply every two hours y’all. My main loves for all skin types are PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 and elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 . Those with dry skin, I’ve been enjoying CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 , though paler folks may prefer DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 . What’s your fave step? What extra step would you add in that’s not featured here? 👀 Keep up with the tag #Skincare101 to follow along this guide I’ll be posting to cover some basic concepts in skincare!
First skin care routine ever...
I was the naturalist, I made my own face wash for over 5 years (honey, coconut oil, tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar) and didn't mind it... but I'm rounding my mid 30's now and really wanted something to help slow down the formation of wrinkles. I decided to start where most people do, with products from "the ordinary". They're cheap and there's so many to try! I bought The Ordinary - ''Buffet'' The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 as per reccomendation from the DECIEM specialists, and friends, and started using one each morning, in rotation. After a few weeks I added a moisturizer PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizerand a sunscreen PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 because my skin was feeling and looking parched. I actually had worse texture and wrinkles! I noticed right away on the days I used buffet at night I would have more pronounced closed comodones. So after 4 weeks I stopped using this product. Right away I noticed improved skin colour with hyaluronic acid, so thought this might be a keeper, but I noticed my skin was getting drier and more wrinkly because of it, rather than plump, even after adding a moisturizer and sunscreen. A big indicator was my lips that were dry and peeling every day for those weeks. Finally I didn't really see much improvement with the Niacinamide. Overall I kept with these products (minus buffet) for over 2 months, and saw minimal improvement, many more blackheads on my face, and closed comodones that weren't going away. The real difference was when I stopped using these products just a few days ago and switched to PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist C15 Super Boosterin the morning, and PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator every other night (along with the same moisturizer and spf in the day) The closed comodones? Almost gone! And no new blackheads. Also my lips are back to their usual plump self. I think the buildup of too many products on my skin was causing it to actually become more clogged, with products that are supposed to be unclogging. I'll keep you updated on my beauty routine, as I've ordered 2 different moisturizers for day and night... but for now this is where I've switched to.
Ingredient Breakdown: Ceramides
Ceramides are a lipid that already exist in the strateum corneum, the outermost layer of skin. In fact, your skin is made up of around 50% ceramides! Ceramides hold together skin cells, preventing moisture loss and retaining firmness. UV damage and pollution destroy the number and quality of the ceramides in your skin, leading to loss of the supple feeling of skin, decreased visible smoothness, as well as increasing the likelihood of sensitivity and irritation. I love using ceramides to address both my sensitivity issues (hey eczema fam!) and for youth-promotion. For sensitivity, it shouldn’t take long to feel and see results like reduced redness and increased smoothness, but aging skin should expect a wait time of months for fine line and firmness improvement. I have combination skin, so I love these three products for adding ceramides to my routine without being too heavy for my oily forehead and nose, but offering the hydration my dry cheeks and eye areas need! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream has been my favourite moisturizer throughout my super oily pre-niacinamide days and my super dry eczema flare-ups. It is fluffy and easily absorbed, but layers easily with extra hydrating and moisturizing serums. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum should be in every sensitive, aging, or dry skin routine. It is light but packs a serious moisturizing and soothing punch. I also recommend it to oily/combination folks when using exfoliants or retinol, to help reduce the likelihood of irritation! PAULA'S CHOICE - Hyaluronic Acid Booster is amazing. Everyone should try this, legitimately. Actual hyaluronic acid plus popular sodium hyaluronate offer light, soothing hydration while cholesterol and ceramide help to retain that hydration without oiliness. It’s perfect for treating skin issues like sensitivity, dehydration, and a damaged skin barrier from overexfoliation or retinol.

Let's talk drunk 🐘
I recently purchased DRUNK ELEPHANT - Been a Long Day Duo mini duo set from Sephora.com 🐘💕 DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream is essentially a moisturizer that is infused with 6 rare African oils and a ceramide complex for intense moisture and replenish barrier support. 🐘The consistency is quite thick but it doesn't feel heavy. It goes nicely on the skin. I love that this brand does not use fragrance (among other harmful ingredients) in their products. With that being said, this cream does kind of have an odd (kind of playdoh) scent to it which I'm sure comes from all of the ingredients and natural African oils. 🐘BUT that definitely would make up for the fact that it worked so well on my skin. After applying, it has honestly never felt that soft. Love that it has ceramides which again are helpful for redness and help soothe the skin. Is it worth it?? I think that the regular sized 1.69 fl oz for 60$ is quite expensive. DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum is an AHA/BHA (alpha hydroxy acid and beta hydroxy acid) serum that will work together to lift away dead skin cells. 🐘AHA cause cells of epidermis [top layer of skin] to become "unglued" allowing dead cells to come off 🐘BHA's will go into the hair follicles to dry out excess oils and dead skin cells to remove impurities and unclog pores 🐘The AHA blends are glycolic, tartaric, lactic, and citric acids. 🐘The BHA blend is SA (salicylic acid) This is quite the potent AHA and BHA blend. It's stings more so than The Ordinary's AHA/BHA serum (I don't know why honestly). Because I have redness on my cheeks I used this Drunk Elephant serum on my T-zone only (so far) and it really works, thus giving me soft and clean skin. The regular sized 1 fl oz is 90$ and is so so so not worth it and in my opinion a huge huge rip off. 🥴🐘 Both of these products work beautifully together ultimately leaving the skin with the softest feel yet. This mini duo is definitely worth it though as it is only 28$. Both of these products individually get 3 ⭐️'s because they're just too expensive for what they are. Overall, I do feel like you can get the same effect with The Ordinary's aha/bha serum and CeraVe'a moisturizer will always be my #1.

Bybi Beauty Review
I want to preface this review with a little disclaimer that goes for all of my reviews: just because I product does or doesn’t work for me, does not mean that you’ll have the same experience! I like to include what my skin type is/skin conditions are as often as I can because some products are just not formulated for my skin type, and that’s okay! I’m writing this in particular for this review because as you may or may not know, I have normal/combination skin and my main concerns are uneven texture as a result of having very easily congested pores. In fact, I was pretty sure I had fungal acne because I show all of the signs of the condition, so I went to the dermatologist but she decided they were just closed comedones and prescribed me a low dose of tretinoin. That being said, she told me to avoid heavy moisturizers because my skin gets easily congested (I’m sure as a result of genetics and the climate I live in and the fact that I sweat like a pig whether it is hot or not) SOOOO all of that being said, I’m here to review three products I’ve tried from Bybi beauty. I love the ethics behind this brand and that their products are recyclable, and so without further ado let me get into my review! Supercharge Serum - this serum is actually a face oil that includes 18 plant derived anti-oxidant rich oils that is meant to brighten, strengthen and repair the skin. I was apprehensive to try this product because my skin has a love/hate relationship with face oils (for reasons mentioned above) but patch testing this it felt like more of a drier oil so I went ahead and tested it out for a while as a last step in my night routine. I think this product is perfectly formulated and if your skin can tolerate loads of essential oils this would be a winner, but because they have a tendency to irritate skin I would suggest everyone check the ingredients list before purchasing. On the website, Bybi suggested that this product is best for normal and dry skin types, but that oily skin can use it sparingly. Also important to note, they point out that sensitive skin types may experience irritation from the jasmine and lemongrass ingredients, which I appreciate that they point out. FOR ME, I would rate this a 2/5, and at $42, I don’t think this “serum” is worth it considering the ingredients list has the potential to be rather irritating and pore-clogging for a lot of people. Blueberry Booster - This is a face oil designed to be added in to your existing skincare routine, as blueberry seed oil is known to be a powerful protected against blue light damage emitted from the screens we’re constantly glued to, as well as the sun. I can’t speak to whether or not this has actually worked for that at this point because I don’t notice much discoloration from screen time as it is, but I do find this product nice to give a bit of a glow with just a drop or two. Blueberry seed oil is also high in beta-carotene to help improve the condition and surface of the skin as well as a variety of fatty acids to hydrate the skin. That being said, I honestly rarely find myself reaching for this product because it just doesn’t seem necessary. It’s $16 for .5 oz and I think that is fair, and I think this would be a good product for someone who is really worried about blue light damage, but I just don’t think it is worth it for me. 3/5 A win for me from Bybi has been the Bakuchiol Booster. Before I went on Tretinoin, I was using this alternatively with my other over the counter retinols to reduce the possibility of irritation from overuse. I like this product because it is simply Squalane (my favorite) and Bakuchiol, which if you don’t already know is a plant-derived vegan retinol alternative that is a little more gentle than other options out there. The booster stimulates collagen production and helps to improve the skin condition with gentle cell turnover. Like all retinol, consistency of use is key to seeing results. Nothing in this product has been irritating for my skin so far, and I have even started to use it on my tretinoin off days. This oil is light enough for me to use without it feeling heavy, and calms down the irritated and dry patches I have been getting from using Tret because of the squalane. Reading the reviews on the brands website, there were some customers who said they saw more comedones from using this, so as a rule of thumb always patch test your products! 4/5
Skincare Line-up: Combo Skin Daytime ✨ (simple!)
When it comes to skincare, I probably have the most high-maintenance routines. But on some days, I do like to pare down my routine to just the “essentials”- especially when my skin is looking and feeling pretty good. I feel like this routine just covers all my bases by adding hydration, protection from free radicals with antioxidants, moisturizes, brightens and protects sun damage! 🤩 Background info on my skin: I have combination skin and am definitely acne-prone! My skin is pretty tough so it doesn’t get irritated easily by “harsher” ingredients and actives. SKINCEUTICALS - Hydrating B5 Gel My go-to Hyaluronic Acid serum! It’s my favorite hydrating product because the Hyaluronic Acid seriously plumps up the skin and brings hydration to the surface of the skin. I apply a few drops of this on my palms and press into the skin. SKINCEUTICALS - C E Ferulic With 15% L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Serum My favorite Vitamin C/antioxidant serum! It brightens the skin, and boosts the performance of my sunscreen so I make sure to incorporate it into my routine every morning! This formula also includes L-ascorbic acid which is a rich antioxidant ingredient that neutralizes free radicals and protects against oxidative stressors, and Ferulic Acid which has similar benefits, enhances antioxidants and stabilizes the Vitamins C & E. THE inkey LIST - Brighten-i Eye Cream Eye cream is one of those things that I have a love/hate relationship with. It’s undecided if I really see a difference as technically my serums and moisturizers should do the same thing- but I recently started using this one from the Inkey List that has brightening properties. I haven’t seen much brightening yet but it has a very lightweight, hydrating formula that I like. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi To lock in all the active ingredients in my toners and serums, I love this cream from Youth To The People because it feels thick and nourishing. The key ingredients in this cream include Squalane, Ashwagandha, and Fermented Reishi which together helps boost skin hydration, minimizes risk of clogged pores, reduces visible signs of fatigue and detoxifies and combats signs of aging. SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50 One of the greatest sunscreens I’ve ever used. This is super lightweight and feels like nothing when you have it on the skin- it’s the only sunscreen I can get my boyfriend to wear! It has 100% mineral filters that provides UVA/UVB protection and adds a natural glow to the skin.

The scoop about Hyaluronic acid...
I feel like we all know what Hyaluronic acid is, but where does it go in your routine? Do you NEED a Hyaluronic acid product in your routine? Read on... Hyaluronic acid was one of those products that for the longest time I thought it wasn’t for me—my skin at the time was quite oily and I thought that by adding hydration in my routine, I would get more breakouts. Well, this isn’t the case at all! I love using an HA serum when I need a little boost or elasticity in my skin. The two products I love with HA as a main ingredient are: YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 I feel like the most common way we recognize Hyaluronic acid is in serum form. My favorite is from The Ordinary—it is a super lightweight serum that I find best works when applied on wet skin. If I try to use it on dry skin it gets super sticky! It takes about 5-10 mins to soak in (I don’t constantly rub it in—I have sensitive skin so constant contact is not good for me) and doesn’t pill at all. Also, it’s super budget friendly and is available at both Ulta and Sephora so it’s widely available and accessible. It’s a great starter HA for anyone interested in trying it. Another way we see HA is in moisturizers. This is a very important aspect and ingredient to look for in gel moisturizer formulas since many gel formulas are oil free—you’re missing out on key hydration and moisture. The addition of HA in those formulas sets up an experience where you’re not feeling tight or dry throughout the day. My favorite moisturizer with HA is from Youth to the People. It’s super lightweight and absorbs very easily. I usually use a facial oil on top of it to seal it all in. Beware: it smells heavily of kale/earthy scent so if you’re not into that then I wouldn’t recommend it. However, it doesn’t bother me since I expect it now. What’s your favorite HA product? I found these through trial and error with other products and brands!

Ingredient Breakdown: Peptides
Collagen is a protein made up of amino acids, imparting bounce and firmness. But collagen can be broken down by free radicals (hello, oxidizing fragrance/volatile essential oil compounds), smoking, UV rays, and age. Age contributes to collagen loss also because your body makes less collagen peptides after some time in your 20s. Topical collagen-containing products don’t work, as collagen molecules are too big to pass through the epidermis. Instead, use peptides to help it act younger and make more collagen! Peptides (also made up of amino acids) are small enough to get to the dermis where collagen is made. In response, skin should start making more peptides to form more collagen. Copper peptides are considered particularly beneficial, though the main benefit over normal peptides is their wound healing capability, making them wonderful for those with acne, on top of their anti-aging benefit. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream contains 9 varieties of peptides, including copper peptides, as well as a variety of amino acids, fatty acids, and humectants. I love this gel-cream, it’s wonderful as a multifaceted moisturizer that is light enough for oily skin and helps fight signs of aging. PAULA'S CHOICE - Peptide Booster contains 8 peptides, amino acids, fatty acids, and a variety of humectants. No copper peptides, instead incorporating a variety of antioxidants, helping to contribute to the calmness of skin and prevent free radical-induced breakdown of collagen. An amazing anti-aging serum with a texture that sits between creamy and silky, sinking in quickly and giving my skin quite a bit of plumpness. This would be the best of the bunch for a multifaceted anti-aging peptide product. The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% contains seven peptides -one of which is a copper peptide- plus a variety of amino acids and hyaluronic acid. It’s a simple yet effective serum that is a bit tacky and smells of metal, but the results are worth it. Applying it to a scab/large acne lesion nightly speeds along its healing noticeably- plus I see less hyperpigmentation develop afterwards. I can’t recommend this enough as a budget-friendly entry into peptide serums!

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
