Holiday Skincare Fixes
Whether it’s breakouts spawned by vigorous Halloween post-makeup scrubbing or pre-holiday multi-exfoliation, things like redness/breakouts are often caused by over-aggressive use of products. Here’s how I keep my skin happy during the holidays: • If you’re wearing makeup, instead of scrubbing excessively with scrubs or makeup wipes, go for double-cleansing! Use an oil-based cleanser (I love the emollient and softening THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm ), followed by a water-based cleanser to remove any residual cleanser/makeup. Or if you’re a bit thrifty, try using a gentle cleanser like CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser twice! It is a silky, no-lather cleanse that contains gentle surfactants, hydrating humectants, and skin-nourishing ceramides to avoid stripping skin, making it perfect for double-duty use. Any gentle cleanser will work, but I reach for a bottle of CeraVe’s cult classics when my skin is upset. • Breaking out from heavy makeup, holiday stress, and/or less-than-stellar skin care? Opt for a simple routine to give your skin barrier time to recuperate: use a gentle cleanser and simple moisturizer, finishing with sunscreen in the AM and oil in the PM. I love NATURIUM - Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture Cream nourishes skin with ceramides and emollients, sans actives, though CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion is a more lightweight yet still nourishing option for oilier skin. I’m sensitive to zinc, so I opt for chemical sunscreens when my skin is irritated, PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 being a hydrating and extremely lightweight option packed with antioxidants. elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 and PURITO - Comfy Water Sun Block are great mineral options, though the fluffier Purito does have a tendency to pill over silicones but is cheaper than the silky EltaMD formulation. Sunscreen is ESSENTIAL for skin health- without it, acne will leave more dark spots and sensitivity will be increased! Using PM Oil is targeted mainly at dry and sensitive skin, though my favourite oily skin oil is The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Squalane . It’s already found in skin, soaks in quickly, and leaves little shine by the AM. Dry skin has a variety of options, but I love fatty acid-packed marula oil when my skin is very dry. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil soaks in near-instantly and has my skin soft and satin when I wake up. For sensitive and dry nights, I always reach for The Ordinary - 100% Organic Virgin Sea-Buckthorn Fruit Oil , it’s hands-down my favourite oil. It does stain pillows and leaves skin orange for a couple hours, but by morning my blemishes are healing and my skin is significantly calmer, more plump, and silky! #CheriePartner
Best oil for the ultimate glow up ✨
The Ordinary - 100% Organic Virgin Sea-Buckthorn Fruit Oil I am an oily girl and I use oil to moisturize my skin. Some people would think since you’re oily you should stay away from oil. Oily skin needs a botanical oil that helps to control sebum production and has a purifying action, so it will regulate the skin. If you have acne prone skin, this is one of the best oils to use. I use different oils to moisturize my skin, and I had this one for a while. I just started using it again this week for my PM routine. It is a lightweight, dry oil that is non-comedogenic, and it contains more antioxidants than any other botanically-derived oil. Seabuckthorn Fruit oil is loaded with omega fatty acids and other nutrients to nourish your skin. It also offers other fatty acids like palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linolenic acid and linoleic acid as well as antioxidants like tocopherol (Vitamin E), carotenoids and lycopene that all help to protect the skin from free radical damage and to maintain the skin’s normal barrier function. Here’s some things this oil will do for you skin: ✨ Reduces inflammation ✨ Prevents oily skin ✨Prevents acne breakouts ✨ Hydrates and relieves redness/itchiness ✨Restores elasticity Due to Sea-Buckthorn Fruit Oil's pigment, as you can see in the photo it can be diluted by mixing it with another oil. It has a red/orange color and does stain so I recommend using in your night routine if you don’t want to look like Oompa Loompa all day 😂 Apply 2-3 hours before bed so it fully absorbs into your skin and so it doesn’t stain your sheets. Massage into your face using the palm of you hands NOT your fingertips! You may also use it as a mask, and then wash it off after around 20-25 minutes. It’s great for all skin types!
I can’t do my nighttime routine without an oil. It’s an absolute necessity for me. I’ve tried all kinds of oils, both individual oils and oil blends. And while love me some rose hip oil (great for anti aging and scars) my current favourite is the ordinary’s B Oil. It’s an oil blend that among others contains squalane, rosehip, marula and argan oil. It’s a relatively light oil, although not as light as pure squalane (which I personally like, at night I want something a bit heavier). It also has bisabolol, a great calming ingredient. The most interesting ingredient imo is the micro-algae though. (Also the reason for the spirulina explosion in the pics 😉) Micro-algae has popped up in quite a few products recently and looks like a promising ingredient for hydration, skin protection and anti aging. And although this oil obviously isn’t the fountain of youth in a bottle I wake up with moisturised, calm and soft skin!

GOOD MOLECULES - Pure Cold-Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil is a light-weight oil that is derived from various parts of the rose plant and is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamins to help hydrate and nourish the skin. Rosehip seed oil is a natural source of Vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that helps fight the signs of aging and sun damage. Provitamin A is a natural derivative of retinol and helps promote smooth, even-looking skin by promoting cell regeneration. Essential fatty acids help promote elasticity and lipid bilayer, while helping to reduce the amount of water lost from the skin. They also source their ingredients ethically. I think this would be perfect for those with acne since it helps with exfoliating and helps fade scars. . Since I’ve been using this, I have noticed my skin feels more hydrated and have less dry spots and when I do, they don’t last as long. It definitely works better when you’ve warmed it up in your fingers versus dropping it directly onto the skin. It doesn’t feel as heavy and absorbs quicker. I’ve used this both at night and in the morning and it’s great for both. It’s a great last step as your nighttime routine to really lock in moisture and give it a little extra kick. It’s also nice in the morning as the last step of my skincare routine (well sunscreen is the last part, but you get the point) before my makeup. I thought it would make my makeup breakup or looking oily throughout the day, but it wears nicely and just looks like a glow from within. This is a great oil to help nourish and hydrate the skin, plus also delivering some extra goodies. Price: $10 for 0.44 fl oz/ 13 mL Rating: 5/5
GOOD MOLECULES-Pure Cold-Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil
Short review on oils in my current routine. ✅ Jordansamuelskin etoile + retinol oil. One of my all time fave oils. It smells very nice. It is well absorbed (I use it in a mixture with serum), it does not make my skin oily, it nourishes and plumps. And brightens. And I believe it has all of advantages of retinol products☺️ In the composition there are almond, argan, marula, cranberry, primrose, wild rose oils, sea buckthorn plus 0.4% of retinol. ✅ Espaskincare optimal pro serum. Love it. It is oily serum, it absorbs really quickly and it is the only oil I can use over my serum and cream without heaviness. Has light citrus smell. Inci list is long enough but main ingredients are rice, primrose, enchium oils mixed with turmeric, clove extracts, black currant seed oil and citrus essential oils. It has good brightening effect on my skin, nourishes and replenishes. ✅ Acurebeauty seriously soothing blue tansy night oil. Budget alternative to HB Lapis oil. Has calming/soothing effect. Blue tansy, castor, argan, kukui and yarrow oil in base of caprylic/capric triglycerids made it absorb really well. I use it only mixed with hydrating or calming mask. Love all three of these oils. They all help to strengthen skin barrier, hydrate and enhance elasticity.

Acure seriously soothing night oil
They weren’t lying, this is seriously soothing! This balances my skin and moisturizes without feeling heavy or greasy. It’s full of antioxidant rich oils and nourishing ingredients. I love a good facial oil, and I’ve tried many over the years and this one stands out to me not only because it’s a much more affordable option to other high-end similar products, but also because it’s effective. I use it as the last step in my PM routine after moisturizing to kind of seal everything in. It has a thin consistency but it does take a couple of minutes to sink in. It has a nice, almost sweet scent but that fades away after application. Overall an amazing product under $20 that I will continue to repurchase! ACURE - Seriously Soothing Blue Tansy Night Oil

Thick, but absorbs nicely. Hydrates so well I don’t even need moisturizer the next morning. 🧡 peachandlily Glass Skin Refining Serum. The hype is real! This stuff is amazing. Makes skin bouncy and plump. Honestly amazed how good my skin looks with just this! 💚 deciem “B” Oil. Great oil blend with micro algae. Absorbs fast, so perfect for the morning!
