My Morning Routine to Conquer the Day! | Cherie

My Morning Routine to Conquer the Day!

Skincyclopedia
Having a good morning can often make or break your entire day. There are a few steps I always take every day to try and set myself up for success. For me, it’s especially important to have a morning routine when working from home— this is because getting ready and prepped is as much as a physical transformation as it is for my mindset. I always wake up, and brush my teeth first thing with something that’s good for me and my teeth. I love Davids - Peppermint Toothpaste
along with Tom's OF MAINE - Simply White Fluoride Toothpaste Clean Mint
who are both eco-friendly and pack their toothpastes full of natural whitening and enamel strengthening ingredients. The SLS and other dermatitis inducing ingredients in all toothpastes can make you break out, so I always follow brushing with a gentle cleanser like Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser
or fresh - Soy Face Cleanser Limited Edition
to remove it without stripping my skin. I’ll tone and then roll on my favorite facial oil or lightweight moisturizer (YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream
is great for the daytime!) with an iced jade roller like this oneNEIBOURHOOD BOTANICALS - Jade Roller Gua Sha Facial Massage
You can use ice, but this is nice to help de puff eyes as well and give a quick wake up. While letting my oil sink in, I’ll put on a pot of tea that caters to my skin (spearmint and green tea) to drink in lieu of coffee which gives me anxiety, and do my morning stretching and meditation while it boils. When I’m done stretching, I’ll add the hot water to my teabag and let it brew. While it’s brewing I’ll add a multitasking SPF to protect and make my skin glow without makeup, with something like COOLA - Classic Full Spectrum 360 Sun Silk Drops SPF 30
or a tinted moisturizer like it Cosmetics - it Cosmetics CC+ Cream SPF 50+
to even out my skin tone and make me look more awake, while protecting me from sun damage. If I have zoom meetings or errands, I’ll put on quick makeup. If not, a hydrating lip mask it is. Something like BITE - Agave+ Intensive Vegan Lip Mask
lasts for hours and makes my lips feel super hydrated and nourished, while looking soft and supple. I’ll then light a candle with an invigorating scent like lemon or eucalyptus and drink my tea to center and calm myself to be ready for whatever my day may throw at me! Because I’ve already taken care of my personal care necessities, I feel more bada$$ already. I hope you enjoyed this post. What does your morning routine look like? ✨

simple, sheeny sunday look ☀️ with glossier
we’re going to blow up the inflatable minnidip today (!!), so my look is very simple. SEPHORA COLLECTION - Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer + benefit - Badgal Lash Mascara + BITE - Agave+ Intensive Vegan Lip Mask - some of my staple face products! Glossier. - Boy Brow in black - i know that this is a HG product for many. i do really like it, but i might choose a different shade in my next time. the consistency is good though, and i like that it’s much simpler to apply than a brow pencil. Glossier. - Haloscope Dew Effect Highlighter in topaz - i’m on the fence! i love the color and the consistency, but it’s definitely a different highlight than what i’m used to. it’s a creamy texture but it’s not as creamy as a cream blush, if that makes sense. it’s a classic glossier product in the sense that you don’t really look like you’re wearing much makeup. i’ll keep trying at it though - perhaps i’m just too accustomed to a glittery, bombastic highlight.

dream duo for kissable lips 💋
this is my favorite combo for soft, moisturized lips. my lips can definitely get flaky / ashy if i don’t take intentional care of them. the bliss scrub is available at target, and it is a great exfoliant. i also love the slight flavor from the tangerine oil. the bite agave mask is what i wanted the laneige lip sleeping mask to be - moisturizing without drying, and no need to reapply within 30 mins. i wear it during the day sometimes and it’s better than vaseline. i purchased it at the bite boutique in nyc, but it’s also available at sephora. bliss - Fabulips Lip Scrub BITE - Agave+ Intensive Vegan Lip Mask

Coola Sun Silk Drops
This is one of my favorite face sunscreens and moisturizers! I tried COOLA - Classic Full Spectrum 360 Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 for the first time about 4 months ago and have been in love with then since. With sensitive skin it’s hard to find a good lightweight moisturizer with SPF25+ and I love these. They don’t irritate my skin or cause me to breakout. There isn’t an overpowering sunscreen smell, it almost smells like fresh and clean. They also give your skin a nice glow and are perfect for under makeup, it doesn’t affect the wear of your foundation like some sunscreen moisturizers.

Flawless Base! Makeup for Your Skin but Better
Because I spend so much time and energy getting my skin to look even and glowing on its own, I want my makeup base to enhance rather than hide it. This is why light or medium coverage crème products are my go-to for a flawless base! I start out with a cleansed and moisturized face. If I’m going to be outside I’ll also go in with COOLA - Classic Full Spectrum 360 Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 (which I already have a post about!). It adds the perfect dewy base and has no flashback. I let it set for 15 minutes and then start my makeup. To prime, I use TATCHA - The Silk Canvas Protective Primer which is heavenly. It doesn’t clog my pores, and leaves my skin hydrated prepped and smooth for my next steps. If I know it will be hot or humid, I also go in with either thebenefit - The POREfessional Face Primer or thebeautyblender - Pore Minimizing Primer on my T-zone; more oily areas. Neither of these pill if layered with the tatcha primer and compliment it beautifully. Next, I go in and spot treat with concealer. I don’t use foundation! I start with NARS - Soft Matte Complete Concealer around my nose and lips, or any other red areas. I use a brush and pat it on the areas I want to cover, let it sit for a minute, and then blend it out with a medium concealer brush. This gives more coverage without having to layer more product! If I still have discoloration or a particularly red or dark pimple, I go over it with a smaller brush using tarte - Shape Tape Concealer as this is very high coverage. Again I let it sit, then blend. Another trick is using creme products to get that lit-from-within glow! For blush, I love Glossier. - Cloud Paint Seamless Cheek Color and liquid blush drops fromEM COSMETICS - Color Drops Serum Blush as both of these blend in effortlessly and look like your own skin! Both of these blushes set themselves without the use of powder. For Highlighter, Charlotte Tilbury - Beauty Highlighter Wand is the best in my opinion. It blends it without looking cakey or fake, but adds the dimension of face tune in real life! This also sets itself and doesn’t require power. If contouring, both KKW BEAUTY - Crème Contour Stick (I use Light 1) and the FENTY BEAUTY - Match Stix Matte Skinstick (I use amber!) layer well with the other creme products. I don’t have issues with patching or pilling, and I enjoy how both sit and feel on the skin as creme contours can feel heavy. When set there is no transfer. I set with BECCA - Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder which I’ve raved about before. No flashback, and keeps the dimensions of the creme products. It doesn’t cake on, but adds another layer of blurring perfection!

comparing milky cleansers! 🥛
i have been a fan of Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser for a while, but i am always looking for more readily accessible / in-store dupes. unfortunately the HONEST - Magic Gel-to-Milk Cleanser isn’t going to make the cut. i really wanted to like it - i love the philosophy of honest beauty, and i really want to incorporate more ‘clean’ beauty products (however that is defined) into my routine. the problem with this honest product is that it truly turns to milk when wet - i was trying to show that in the third pic. i usually use my cleanser in the evening and in the shower, and this product just gets too runny to be useful. i can’t actually tell if it’s on my face for long enough to actually help with cleansing. i like that the glossier product is a little more ‘jelly’ than ‘milky’ - it allows me to work the product onto my face and let it sit for a bit before rinsing. i think that i’ll stick with glossier for now - let me know if you find a good drugstore dupe! for comparison - glossier was $18 for 6 oz on their website, and honest was $15 for 5 oz at walgreen’s. #cheriecreator

Who Likes This One?? 💖
Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser A lovely product with a Rosy scent and creamy texture. This is a PH balanced facial cleanser! It's great for daily use. It is a gel oil instead of a cleansing oil which is great for hydration! It is also a great addition to your routine if you double cleanse! This effectively removes makeup and cleanses without removing the natural oils of the skin. I don't recommend this for people with oily skin. This is for dry and combination skin. I have oilier skin so I wouldn't use this every day, but when I tried it I was on one of my dryer days and it made my skin beautiful. Hypoallergenic Sulphate free Paraben free Noon comedogenic What I do: Wet face and rub the cleanser into the skin. Let it sit for a few seconds and then rinse. It will melt off if you let it sit for a few extra seconds! ( Sometimes I use this for double cleansing as well). The ingredients contain a lot of moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and emollient type ingredients. There are also a lot of solvents, surfactants, and emulsifiers, which neither surprising nor a bad thing since it is a cleanser and didn't spend much time on the face. Here is a list of ingredients, let me know your opinion on these ingredients as I am unfamiliar with some of these! 💖 Water/Aqua/Eau, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Propanediol, Isohexadecane, Poloxamer 184, Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer, Xylitylglucoside, Betaine, Allantoin, Glycerin, Panthenol, Symphytum Officinale Root Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Anhydroxylitol, Polysorbate 80, Xylitol, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Isopropyl Myristate, Benzoic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide Share your thoughts!! 💖

COMBINATION SKIN 101
Combination skin means that your face has two or more different skin types at the same time. I have typically combination skin, there are mix of oily and dry areas on different parts of my face. And the very oily areas of my skin are the forehead, nose, and chin. It can be tricky to figure out how to care for my skin properly, since different parts of my face have different needs. It's important to use the right skincare products to restore the balance. ✔️Cleanse with a mild, fragrance-free product. For the morning and night, I recommend cleansing with the fresh - Soy Face Cleanser Limited Edition because it has gentle cucumber extracts, which are great for calming the skin; sunflower seed oil and soybean oil, which provide the skin with essential fatty acids that it needs in order to be healthy; aloe leaf juice to hydrate; and borage seed oil to calm inflammation due to its high content of linoleic acid. This cleanser can literally removes all of my easy-daily makeup and leaves my skin feeling soft. It’s gentle, doesn’t leave my skin tight or have a fragrance. I’ve got my mom hooked on it too. LOL ✔️Use a hydrating toner/ essence/ serum to repair the skin. Focusing on delivering water-based hydration is the key to healthy combination skin. A great way to infuse water into the skin is with a hydrating, oil-free essence like Moisture Infusion Tone. Use a serum containing BHA or AHA will help minimize pores and brighten up dull skin.  Reveals your normal, healthy skin again. If you’re acne-prone, look for ingredients like salicylic acid and tea-tree oil to keep your skin clear.  ✔️Lightweight Moisturizer. Combination skin doesn’t need an oil-free moisturizer, but it does need a lightweight one. ✔️Protect your skin from sun damage. SPF, all the time, no matter what! (But only during the day, of course!) You know the drill. This one has hydrating glycerin and antioxidant-rich grape-seed extract. 🔥My Must-have Recommendation: 🔥 Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cream comes with the acne-fighting salicylic acid, which dermatologists noted could be helpful for combination skin. I loved this moisturizer. It was thick and rich, but didn't feel heavy or sticky on my face. It’s lightweight and never greasy. It smelled nice (actually barely smelled at all, which I prefer) and left my skin feeling very soft after just one use. 🖤Multi-Mask to Target Different Facial Areas🖤 One of the perks of having combination skin is being able to multi-mask. Multi-masking uses a targeted approach by allowing you to customize the formula of mask you use on different areas of your face. For instance, it may be best to apply an oil-absorbing clay mask to your T-zone, like Kiehl's - Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque , and a hydrating face mask onto your cheeks, like Kiehl's - Avocado Nourishing Hydration Mask .

Cherie made me buy it!
These are some of the products I saw rave reviews on on Cherie, and I was enticed to purchase them for myself! Some of them didn’t work, some did, and some were meh. My skin type is normal/combination. I am acne prone, and I also have rosacea. My redness takes over most days. I have some hyperpigmentation to take care of, and some dry spots! SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask Unfortunately I don’t like this product as a hydrating mask at all. It’s not very hydrating to me, and as chestnut extract is pretty high on the list, it’s actually more exfoliating for my skin than anything. I also think I’m allergic to the peppermint oil in this! I can only use it biweekly and ONLY as a wash off mask. Its very thick and hard to spread. I have a full size of this that someone gave me and idk what to do with it now :( I’ve seen so many people recommend this including @relpixela! 2/5 BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil So freaking hydrating! Not sticky or greasy, but locks in moisturize so well. I love using this in ANY routine. The vitamin c is gentle and non-irritating. I first saw this on @relpixela’s page, and I am so happy I looked into this product. It’s a rich oil, but is somehow lightweight? It helps my hyperpigmentation, helps fade dark spots, and brightens my skin! I use this as a last step. 4/5 because it’s SO expensive. fresh - Soy Face Cleanser Limited Edition This cleanser is very meh to me. I have since found more nourishing cleansers for less money, but I do love how this smells (cucumber). It’s very gel-like, a bit sticky, and is kinda goopy. I used it in my am routine, and as a second cleanser at night. It’s very gentle, but doesn’t really provide any solid benefits except helping cleanse my makeup off. 3/5 LANEIGE - Cica Sleeping Mask I am very obsessed with this mask. It’s pretty heavy, so I love using this at night in winter. A very rich texture. If my skin is irritated, I’ll even use this in the day time. It’s soothing, calms my redness, and rejuvenates my skin overnight. It’s not my FAV sleeping mask, but I do really love it and have repurchased it. #cheriepartner

Current PM Routine: Normal Skin
Note: The micellar water I use to remove my waterproof mascara is not pictured (I use the waterproof Marcelle micellar water) I’ve done previous reviews for each product so I won’t go into too much detail. 1). Remove my mascara with the previously mentioned micellar water 2). Cleanse my face with the Allies of Skin - MOLECULAR SILK AMINO HYDRATING CLEANSER With this cleanser it’s best to apply to dry skin and massage around face and neck. I then follow by apply a small amount of water to lather the cleanser before ringing with lukewarm water. 3). The perfect, gentle-yet-effective toner: PESTLE & MORTAR - Exfoliate Glycolic Acid Toner 180ml It not only ensures a day’s dirt, grime, and makeup are completely removed from the skin, but I find it has made my complexion so much more balanced in terms of oiliness in my pore area (it’s non-existent at this point). 4). I always, aways use NIOD - Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist Antioxidants in skincare are so important. It’s great at helping with water loss, oxidative stress, and inflammation. It’s so refreshing to apply to freshly cleansed skin. 5). I don’t let the mist dry onto my skin. I’ll leave it sitting for a few minutes and while my face is still slightly damp I apply PESTLE & MORTAR - Pure Hyaluronic Serum This hyaluronic serum is so hydrating and feels lovely on the skin. It’s perfect for locking in that moisture from the face mist. 6). GRAYDON - Fullmoon Serum A plant-based retinol alternative. My holy grail. My skin has never looked better since using this consistently. My skin is smooth and overall looks healthy. 7). The BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream is my favourite eye cream and has been my go-to for months. It’s super hydrating and doesn’t make my concealer crease :) 8). The YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream is SO nice! It’s a light-weight gel cream. It has a lovely fresh scent that’s not overpowering. It’s quite hydrating as well. When I use these products my skin feels hydrated, smooth, and overall healthy :)

Updated Foundation Collection 🌟
Yes I have a problem lol I just love trying new face formulas. My favorite here is still the Touch In Sol Advanced Real Moisture Foundation in shade 21. It’s the most skin-like of all of them so far and has great durability. It’s also one of the cheaper ones at only $18 on amazon 😀 I do like the way the ILIA serum lays down, but my god does it have a strong paint smell 😑 once it goes away it’s fine, but the first few minutes are rather rough as I’m sensitive to bad smells. Ah, the things we do for beauty 🤷‍♀️ Happy Sunday! 🍁 Don’t forget to hydrate and check your WiFi 😘

Lazy girl MUST-READ! How to Choose a Tinted Moisturizer for your skin tone
On lazy days I love throwing on my favorite tinted moisturizer and calling it a day. One thin layer is all it takes to even out my skin tone, cover my problem areas, and give me that glow-from-within look I crave. Usually, tinted moisturizer doesn't come in as many shades as a traditional foundation. While I'm not sure why this is, I know it can be frustrating to find your ideal match with limited color options.  My Skin Type: I have combination skin (dry cheeks & oily T-zone). My skin tone is light with yellow/neutral undertones. Think of MAC NC25 for reference.  My Go-To Tinted Moisturizer: I love IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream in the shade Light. It's kind of like a combination of a full-coverage foundation, color correcting cream, and it has SPF 50+ UVA/UVB. This tinted moisturizer is for sure on the heavier side. It offers full-coverage with a satin-like finish. I use the original formula, but they do have a matte version for anyone with oily skin.  IT Cosmetics is considered to be on the higher-end of the cosmetics world. I usually purchase their cosmetics at Sephora or Ulta. I love that this brand also adds skincare into their products. The CC+ cream, for example, is made with an anti-aging and hydrating serum. This is one of those all-in-one beauty items that does what it claims.  Tips:  Wondering how to choose the tinted moisturizer for your skin tone? Unlike foundation, tinted moisturizers usually have fewer shade choices, especially when it comes to undertones. While I tend to have a yellow/neutral undertone, many others may have red, pink, or olive undertones to their skin. Try to match the tinted moisturizer shade to your face. Test a little on the side of your face or the back of your hand. Once you blend, you shouldn't see any product left behind on your skin.

I am concerned because I think I have fungal acne but can’t figure out how to get rid of it. I am a competitive swimmer so I am in the pool each day but still have really oily skin. I am currently using the cerave foaming facial cleanser for oily to normal skin. Then I go in with sunscreen in the morning or a oil free moisturizer at night. UPDATE:
This has really been
UPDATE: This has really been such an frustrating and disheartening process because, despite periodic improvements, my acne has generally gotten worse over time. But seeing different medical professionals recently has brought the big picture together and I’m hoping to see sustained improvements with a little guidance. First, I finally got in to see a derm and within seconds of seeing my face, told me that this is hormonal cystic nodular acne. Then, immediately after that, strongly recommended accutane. Discouraged that this was her first recommendation, I asked about some other treatments that I had researched. We settled on a 2 month course of doxycycline with topical tretinoin. After that, there will be a follow up to consider spironolactone. Then, I made an appointment with my gyno. Together, we realized that my switching from the pill to IUD contraceptive a couple years ago may have led to this exacerbation (oral contraceptives can treat hormonal acne). Since I had been on the pill since I was 18 (am currently 26), my hormonal acne was subdued for years. We are waiting on results for hormone levels to direct my care. I’ve also researched possible influence of food intolerances, stress, etc that will have to be considered. Skincare will go a long way but it is good to know that I am approaching this from a holistic standpoint considering that OTC products for skincare alone may only be successful for ~20% of cases of hormonal acne. —————————— Hello! This is my first post. My skin type is combination. Im normally acne prone around the jawline, and now with COVID, have to wear a mask for all 12 hours of work! The friction and closed environment has made it really challenging to manage breakouts, which get bad with workdays and only begin to recover in between shifts. Currently using PanOxyl - Acne Foaming Wash Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Maximum Strengthtwice a day. I follow with DICKINSON'S - Witch Hazel Liquid as toner. I’ve been skipping my normal vitamin C serum to avoid added irritation. At nighttime I use CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion and in the daytime I use Neutrogena - Clear Face Break-Out Free Liquid-Lotion Sunscreen SPF 55. I’m not sure if this is fungal acne or how to tell. Working to not pick! I’ve seen this routine clear existing bumps very slowly and a lot of the marks just need to fade and are effectively cleared. I read that I may need to change detergents and clean pillow cases, clean phone, avoid touching face etc. and am hoping to get some advice or feedback for my current plan.

Cult fave empty: Farmacy Green Clean Balm 🌱
Cult fave empty: Farmacy Green Clean Balm 🌱
This cult favorite is a recent empty—and it’s a cult favorite for a reason! I originally bought a small sample size after hearing skincare Youtubers like Liah Yoo and James Welsh rave about it, and liked it so much that I bought a full size for myself and one as a gift for my mom. FARMACY - Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm Texture: the texture of this product is like a lightweight sherbert. It’s not waxy or stiff like other cleansing balms I’ve tried. It melts down into a slippery oil once you warm it up in your palms. Scent: this does not have synthetic fragrance, but it does have a scent. To me, it smells floral and fresh, but isn’t too overpowering. The smell doesn’t linger once you wash the balm off. Application: the full size comes in a jar with a screw-on lid and a little plastic spatula. The spatula fits inside the jar. I used this nightly as my first cleanse (in a double cleanse) on the days when I wore sunscreen (which is almost everyday except on days where my skin was really irritated from going too ham with trying new products 😆). I would take about a nickel-sized amount, warm it up in my palms so that it melted down, and would massage it into my dry face. I would then use a little bit of water on my palms to emulsify the cleanser, then would finish with rinsing it off. I also used this product for LABeautyologist’s oil cleansing method about once a week—this method involves using cleansing balm or cleansing oil to extract oil plugs from your skin. Results: I really enjoyed this product! 💚 I have sensitive, combo, acne prone skin and never experienced any breakouts or irritation from this product. It worked well in removing oil plugs too, and I didn’t feel like it left a film of oil on my face. My mom has oily, mature skin and enjoys this product as well. The only reason I am not repurchasing it is because I am curious to try a oil cleanser instead of a balm next. But I am a fan of this product and would recommend!
