How-To: Heal and Protect Skin After Picking! ❤️

avatar
Skincyclopedia
Skin picking generally affects most of us. From popping one pimple, scratching an eczema patch too hard, or dermatillomania, many of us have experienced the dread of making a pimple worse than it was before. These are some of my favorite products, tips and tricks for healing skin and keeping it safe during this gentle state. After the deed is done, it’s important to avoid actives and wash with a very gentle cleanser. My preferred is Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser
due to the minimal and skin healing ingredients list, lack of fragrance and no harsh stripping feeling. I wash for 60 seconds and rise with cool water, patting dry very gently with a microfiber towel. Next, I ice my skin for around four minutes to bring down the swelling and inflammation (similar to icing a burn or a sprained ankle). I constantly move the ice cube as facial skin is delicate, but concentrate it in areas that I picked or that experience redness and inflammation or pain.
Bonus tip: you don’t have to just use water. Freeze green tea and aloe cubes for the added bonus of healing and inflammation fighting ingredients.
After icing, I use a gentle hydrating toner. The key is to introduce humectants (hydrated skin is happy skin) and other inflammation fighting ingredients like green tea and COQ10 (an antioxidant) to the skin to help the healing process start immediately. I then layer on my favorite moisturizer or oil— use something you trust with no essential oils, drying ingredients, actives or fragrance. My fav is pure jojoba oil, it’s super gentle, pure, and antimicrobial, with no additives. It leaves my skin healthy and supple, as it has high amounts of vitamin A and E. It locks in the hydration I’ve added with the toner, and acts as a gentle occlusive. Furthermore it doesn’t overwhelm my picked skin with additives that burn and sting. Lastly, I layer on a variety of thicker products in areas that need it to heal my skin depending on the damage. If the pimple is still active, I use a peach slices - Acne Spot Dots
to keep it clean from further bacteria and to suck any remaining gunk out. If I have scabs or scratches, I use either skinfix - Eczema+ Dermatitis Face Balm
or TOPICALS - Like Butter Hydrating Mask
which both employ collodial oatmeal along with other barrier repair ingredients to heal, hydrate, and further protect skin.

~in-depth rundown of my routine (pt. 3-misc.)
hey guys! if you’re not here from one of my other two posts please refer to this for a complete rundown of all the products. the ones listed below are products i use occasionally, while the other two parts are daily products. i felt these were important to include as they are also beneficial to keeping my skin as acne free as possible. now, i’m not the best at keeping a routine nor do i know a lot about ingredients/products but i’ve found this has helped tremendously (especially with my forehead acne). i recommend trying some of these products if you are prone to forehead acne (especially the cbd serum and the ordinary formula). ***please refer to all three parts for a full product rundown. i will have a separate post just listing the products, without review, for ease of access*** *FEEL FREE TO LEAVE ME SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS* AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay i got this product because of the hype around it and boy does it do wonders. whenever i feel extra oily and gross, usually once a week toward the end, i use this mask with apple cider vinegar. it is great at suctioning al the oiliness out of my skin and i have recently mixed in some turmeric powder for extra benefits, however it is great on its own. on the opposite end of the spectrum, i use a sheet mask. Soo'AE - HEMP DREAMS SHEET MASK i love sheet masks as they can add an extra bit of needed hydration. i have found this hemp mask to be a great pick me up and i love using it after the Indian clay mask. i do this so my skin doesn’t dry out too much and try to overcompensate for the lack of natural oils. however, with this new routine of mine, i haven’t found this to be an issue so i can usually get away with not using a sheet mask. however, it is still a relaxing and calming experience to do so. peach slices - Acne Spot Dots i had heard a lot about acne patches and decided to get some on my latest cvs run. now let me tell you guys!!! i was absolutely blown away by these. the first time i used them was when i felt a painful pimple coming in and it sucked that bad boy right out overnight. the next couple times i have used them, they weren’t as magical, however they definitely decreased the size and amount of time my pimples stuck around. however, i still get some pretty annoying hormonal zits so i am looking for a good drying cream. any suggestions of your holy grails!!???

Easy Skincare for Days You Don’t Feel Like It
For those of us who struggle with mental illness, you know how hard it can be to do your skincare on days when you feel like you can’t be bothered to. On those more difficult days, I cut myself back to the basics of skincare so I’m still taking care of myself and my skin, but not over exerting my mental or physical capacity. Skipping a few days is fine, but I know my mental health is much better when I take care of my skin, so I use opposite action to get myself just to do the basics of my routine. I cleanse at night (and in the morning if i feel up to it), mostly on days like these I can’t be bothered to do things in the morning besides brushing my teeth, so washing at night is the best bet. That way you don’t go to sleep with all of the grime of the day still sitting on your skin. I skip oil cleansing and just go in with a gentle jelly or milk cleanser for a minute. If I really can’t be bothered to cleanse, I’ll use a micellar water or something similar and then wipe my skin down after that again with a toner soaked cotton round. Then regardless of how I cleanse, I rise with cool/cold water to help with inflammation, as usually I’m too tired to ice my face. This still gives me some of the positive benefits without spending too much time standing and rubbing ice on my face. Next I tone with a hydrating toner that has no actives but plenty of healing ingredients as I’m not using a serum, and lock it in with an occlusive oil or a sleeping mask like YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask all over my face and in place of eye cream. This keeps the hydration next to your skin to be absorbed during the night and treats it even without additional serums🌟 I then add pimple patches on the areas I might want to pick, a healing skin balm on irritated areas and I’m done with my skincare! Bonus points for a lip balm like BITE - Agave+ Nightime Duo which is all natural and leaves my lips feeling like silk all night! This is truly a low effort once-a-day routine for those times where you just can’t bring yourself to do anything.

Just a golden hour skin update 😍
COVID & quarantine have taught me a lot- most importantly being how essential it is to be consistent in order to see skincare results. mini reviews
I have some mini reviews ready today!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The first is the GOOD MOLECULES - Caffeine Energizing Hydrogel Eye Patches They tend to send me their new launches, and I’ll admit I was waiting by the door for these. They don’t slide around on my face, aren’t sticky, and the essence sinks in pretty fast. My undereyes look plump when I use these, like I’ve gotten the most sleep imaginable. Would totally recommend these, as they only run about $18 for 30 pairs.⁣ ⁣ The next three mini reviews are some products from skinfix that I have been using — TLDR; they’re all great for dry skin. The Lipid Boost Jelly is one of the best hydration serums I’ve ever used, and the dermatitis face balm is incredible on my dry patches and flare ups. Last but not least, the 911 ointment is an all-purpose salve that I use on everything, from dry hands to itchy legs, random bumps on my chest or arms or cracked feet!⁣ ⁣ These were all gifted by the brands with no strings attached!

SkinFix Eczema+ Dermatitis Face Balm
My skin type is typically oily with the occasional breakout and dry spot, but lately with the Texas weather going back and forth between 80 and 40, my skin has been freaking out and been super dry! I’m talking flaky spots, peeling, and painful to the touch. The purpose of this product is a concentrated balm that treats eczema, dryness, and dermatitis with quick relief. It is even safe to use around eyes, on kids, and works well under makeup. The balm feels really heavy and hard to get out of the tube since it’s so thick, but as soon as you touch it, it starts to melt right into the the skin and is so lightweight, but packs a hydration punch! I got this product in my December 2019 BoxyCharm Premium box. It is the full size and it’s this tiny!! It cost $28 for this tiny, sample-size looking tube!! Looks can be deceiving though, you literally need the tiniest of dots since this balm is uber concentrated. My under eyes have been the flakiest and this immediately prodvided relief I had never felt before! I also get a strange red, intensely itchy feeling on my neck and chest sometimes, especially in the winter (not sure what it’s cause by, I’ve been getting to for years 😓) and the First Aid Beauty was the only product that provided a feeling of relief, but it would only last for a few minutes and then come back. Using this, the feeling goes and stays away!! I am blown away by this product! My skin can also get dry sometimes when I’m using my acne medication (EpiDuo Forte, but haven’t used it in months 😅 I need to start using it again) and it was be so dry that nothing could help it, I can’t wait to try it then because I know this will help. I have never had a product actually help with my skin because when it gets dry, it’s torturous. You’d expect this to be super heavy right?? Nope!! It sinks right into the skin and just nourishes and melts right into the skin. I have fallen in love with this product because it actually provides release from itchiness and dryness that I haven’t experienced before. I would recommend this if you have very dry skin or eczema because this product actually delivers its claims! I will for sure be purchasing this again when I run out, this is definitely worth the price (even though it literally looks like a sample size 😝) and it takes minimal effort/time to rub it in since it literally takes the tiniest amount of product to provide relief. skinfix - Eczema+ Dermatitis Face Balm Price: $28 for 0.48 oz/13.5 mL Rating: 5/5

My New Beauty Buy for the Ultimate Glow 🤩
If you haven’t heard the hype about My Topicals.. I am here to drop a gem on y’all. My Topicals is the newest, trendiest, hyped brand out and for GOOD reason. A few quick facts about why you should also Stan this company WOC owned and operated (recent grads too!) that have partnered with dermatology to develop top notch effective formulas My Topicals donates a portion of its profits to the JED foundation to help youth dealing with mental health struggles. They are passionate about helping/speaking about how mental health is related to skin conditions and self esteem, which I think its great. The formulations are impeccable, with nearly every ingredient you need to either fade hyperpigmentation (faded) or sooth eczema (like butter). They are unfragranced, a big plus for sensitive skin, and use tubes for packaging which is great for hygienic purposes, but also an eco friendly option! Now I’ve been using both of these products for about 2 weeks and.. 🤯 they are here to stay in my routine for a long time. TOPICALS - Faded Brightening & Clearing Gel ❣️Faded (she is a little stinky~ a little sulfur smelling) is suuuuuper amazing for any hyperpigmentation, discolorations, or uneven skin. I use it underneath my healing ointment and in the morning you can already see how glowy your skin looks, and the dark marks lightened within the first 3 days of using it. SHOOK. TOPICALS - Like Butter Hydrating Mask ❣️Like Butter lives up to its name and is a silky, smooth, creamy product that soothes cracked, irritated and eczema prone skin that needs TLC. It goes on like a dream, and you can use it as a mask or a leave on treatment (like me hehe). Its hydrating cocktail of ceramaides, turmeric and ginseng for anti inflammatory properties, can repair a broken skin barrier like no other. I also really love that My Topicals only has two products out, and is committed to making them the best that they can. It’s a true commitment to quality over quantity, and these products are a godsend!

My Morning Routine to Conquer the Day!
Having a good morning can often make or break your entire day. There are a few steps I always take every day to try and set myself up for success. For me, it’s especially important to have a morning routine when working from home— this is because getting ready and prepped is as much as a physical transformation as it is for my mindset. I always wake up, and brush my teeth first thing with something that’s good for me and my teeth. I love Davids - Peppermint Toothpaste along with Tom's OF MAINE - Simply White Fluoride Toothpaste Clean Mint who are both eco-friendly and pack their toothpastes full of natural whitening and enamel strengthening ingredients. The SLS and other dermatitis inducing ingredients in all toothpastes can make you break out, so I always follow brushing with a gentle cleanser like Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser or fresh - Soy Face Cleanser Limited Edition to remove it without stripping my skin. I’ll tone and then roll on my favorite facial oil or lightweight moisturizer (YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream is great for the daytime!) with an iced jade roller like this oneNEIBOURHOOD BOTANICALS - Jade Roller Gua Sha Facial Massage You can use ice, but this is nice to help de puff eyes as well and give a quick wake up. While letting my oil sink in, I’ll put on a pot of tea that caters to my skin (spearmint and green tea) to drink in lieu of coffee which gives me anxiety, and do my morning stretching and meditation while it boils. When I’m done stretching, I’ll add the hot water to my teabag and let it brew. While it’s brewing I’ll add a multitasking SPF to protect and make my skin glow without makeup, with something like COOLA - Classic Full Spectrum 360 Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 or a tinted moisturizer like it Cosmetics - it Cosmetics CC+ Cream SPF 50+ to even out my skin tone and make me look more awake, while protecting me from sun damage. If I have zoom meetings or errands, I’ll put on quick makeup. If not, a hydrating lip mask it is. Something like BITE - Agave+ Intensive Vegan Lip Mask lasts for hours and makes my lips feel super hydrated and nourished, while looking soft and supple. I’ll then light a candle with an invigorating scent like lemon or eucalyptus and drink my tea to center and calm myself to be ready for whatever my day may throw at me! Because I’ve already taken care of my personal care necessities, I feel more bada$$ already. I hope you enjoyed this post. What does your morning routine look like? ✨

comparing milky cleansers! 🥛
i have been a fan of Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser for a while, but i am always looking for more readily accessible / in-store dupes. unfortunately the HONEST - Magic Gel-to-Milk Cleanser isn’t going to make the cut. i really wanted to like it - i love the philosophy of honest beauty, and i really want to incorporate more ‘clean’ beauty products (however that is defined) into my routine. the problem with this honest product is that it truly turns to milk when wet - i was trying to show that in the third pic. i usually use my cleanser in the evening and in the shower, and this product just gets too runny to be useful. i can’t actually tell if it’s on my face for long enough to actually help with cleansing. i like that the glossier product is a little more ‘jelly’ than ‘milky’ - it allows me to work the product onto my face and let it sit for a bit before rinsing. i think that i’ll stick with glossier for now - let me know if you find a good drugstore dupe! for comparison - glossier was $18 for 6 oz on their website, and honest was $15 for 5 oz at walgreen’s. #cheriecreator

So I should start by saying I’ve been meaning to see a dermatologist for like 2 years because my situation has just gotten worse and worse. But I’m looking for some RELIEF... I have pretty red, sensitive, textured, dry skin. I stopped using a face scrub about a year ago when a esthetician friend turned me onto skin script products. They helped me for about 9+ months! My redness and texture were minimized and breakouts were never a huge concern. But I’ve moved to a different climate since and I can’t get my face to settle down much. I’ve used SkinScript cleanser, anti aging serum, toner, and lotion for a while and my skin seems to be immune to it now (this happens all the time, something will work great for a few months or so then I restock because I love it and BOOM my skin says “nope I’m over it” so I’m at a loss). I’ve recently been using this app to try new things and I’ve added a couple Dr. Jart products that feel amazing, I just need help as to what to add next! I have pretty textured skin, I don’t get much acne except for the occasional on my forehead and the white heads all over my cheeks. I want some hydration for the night time so I don’t wake up with bone dry skin, and something soothing for inflammation I get. I’m slightly positive I have rosacea But I obviously haven’t had a DR confirm. Thanks for reading. Pics are of what I’ve been using and liking.

Say NO to these products please
Say NO to these products please
DO NOT get these products they are awe full for your skin. Here is my perspective on these two brands. Clean & Clear: When I tell you that I hate this brand. I HATE IT! It’s awe full for your skin and here is what happened with me. When I got Clean & Clear when I was an early teen (around 11) I never thought anything of it. I got a two pack with an acne “prevention” product and then a facial cleanser. I was told to but the acne “prevention” product on first. When I tell you my skin burned like hell. It hurt so bad and I thought nothing of it and let it soak into my skin. Then I went in with this awful facial cleanser. My skin was awfully red afterwards and I went to sleep. After working for two days with this product I started breaking out and my skin was SO DRY. This isn’t just for people with sensitive skin like me and I break out easily and my face is very dry all the time. This also affects other people I know of and from dermatologists they DO NOT recommend this product. Mario Badescu: This brand is literally scented alcohol in a bottle. DONT BUY IT. It is awful. They dry out your skin and the ingredients list is just awful. I HATE this brand. Please don’t buy it. I don’t use it at all but when I saw my little sister use it I SNATCHED it out of her hand. I explained to her why it’s bad and showed her the ingredients list and she still uses it. I just don’t recommend this brand at all but PLEASE don’t use this. They are AWFUL! This is from my experience and my friends experience. I watch a lot of youtubers that help me. I am not a dermatologist nor a professional this is just from my experience.

FARMACY - Honey Savior All-in-One Skin Repair Salve think this is the only Farmacy product I hadn’t tried.... until now and I am so happy I did! ⭐️ honey savior has over 100+ nutrients to help nourish, protect, and support skin renewal. while it helps revitalize skin, it also helps soothe with honey. honey is a natural humectant and is super gentle in helping calm sunburns and other irritations. It’s texture is similar to Vaseline. It goes on so smooth and blends effortlessly. ⭐️ this is seriously all-in-one balm and i have already used it in multiple ways! i have incorporated this into my routine by putting it on my lips, cuticles, elbows & knees, and on blemishes that are healing. If you pick at your acne, you need this!!! also stop picking lol but this will help heal it and avoid infection. A little goes a long way!

⭐️ 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 ⭐️ Signature Clear, Magic Oil ($38) and Magic Cleansing Balm ($34). Find it at www.signatureclear.com ——————— ⇛Beauty (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️): These products are amazing, and have quickly reached holy grail status for me. Although these are marketed as helpful for acne, they have really had a positive effect on my winter skin and I see a difference when I don’t use either the oil or the balm. You can use these products as a first cleanse, but I don’t find that to be the best use (although it works great). The oils are too precious to go down the drain. I use the Magic oil on its own after a hydrating toner, and that’s all I need for glowing, healthy skin the next day. The balm (the only difference is the balm has some beeswax, doesn’t emulsify) can be used to remove makeup, but I press it into the skin as the last layer after actives or on top of the oil if I’m feeling extra dry that day. Other than an exfoliator, I don’t need anything else to have beautiful skin. When I first started using the oil, I had a stubborn zit underneath the skin that was taking over a week to heal, the oil flattened it in 2 days. I haven’t broken out since, so I think the oil and balm combo are definitely contributing to my skin’s overall health. I seriously have to force myself to stop use so I can try other products (that’s when I know it’s HG). Absolutely in love! ——————— ⇛Business (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, cruelty-free): I love supporting indie skincare brands that have quality products without gimmicks. The owner, Angie, reached out to me to offer to send me the Magic Oil. After I let her know that I can’t evaluate on the product’s effect on acne, she still sent me the products and gave me as much time as I needed to evaluate the product. I was so impressed with the oil, I bought the cleansing balm in a few days. My experience with the customer service and shipping has been great. I am so excited to see what else Angie brings to the market!

New & Improved Skin Care Routine *Bliss Line*
New & Improved Skin Care Routine *Bliss Line*
I’m just starting to research my products and I was extremely unsatisfied with what I had found in my current products. I’ve heard really good things about this line. I was really attracted to the lack of fragrance and super stripping chemicals. To start off let me tell you about my skin. I have struggled with dry skin for most of my life and my t-zone and chin are not only my dryers areas but they are also where I get the most acne. Correct me if I’m wrong but it’s just the overproduction of oil since I’m so dry and as the weather gets colder/dryer it gets worse. I usually get a new pimple once every two-three days. Knowing this I was looking for cleansers and toners that would help me manage the breakouts and a serum and moisturizer that will help me keep my skin soft and hydrated. Here are the products I bought along with first impressions after my first use :) bliss - Clear Genius Clarifying Gel Cleanser - This cleanser feels really gentle on my skin but it also gets the job done. My skin felt refreshed and clean but not dry. I didn’t feel like I needed to get my moisturizer on quickly before my skin dried out which is usually a challenge. bliss - Clear Genius Clarifying Toner + Serum - Over all I really enjoyed this toner. I wasn’t expecting it to be a gel but it did feel very soothing on my skin. The directions recommend using a cotton pad to apply but did feel like I had to pump out a lot to cover my whole face. I also had a lot of product squirt out from under my cotton pad when I was using the pump so I’m not super thrilled with the design. bliss - Ex-Glow-Sion Moisturizer - This has been the best moisturizer I’ve tried and at an amazing price point as well. It goes on light but doesn’t leave my skin needing more. It’s been several hours now and my face still feel soft. Conclusions: Bliss says they can clear your skin in two weeks. I’m going to be updating you guys in a week to let you know what results I’m seeing. I’m also going to be purchasing the bliss - Clear Genius Clarifying Liquid Peel because exfoliation is a must for me. I’m really excited to see what happens!
