Skin Transformation
January 11, 2021
My skin was not the greatest. It overall got so bad and honestly I was eating so much junk food, drinking not a lot of water and skipping out on my skin routine because I was lazy.
After 2 weeks my skin has just a few pimples but overall makes me feel confident.
January 24, 2021
I stayed with my regular skin routine:
CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser
Cetaphil - Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion
AvĆØne - CLEANANCE SUNSCREEN SPF 50+
And just trusted the process and tried to not pick on them. I am super happy with how Iāve recently managed my skin and all I needed to do was stick to what i should do and continue doing that.
> I drink 1500ml+ a day
>Started to workout daily, even for just a few minutes
> And felt more confident
I have a hard time maintaining healthy skin but I will continue improving my diet, drinking more water and etc...
I got so mad but I needed to love myself no matter what because, acne just makes you even more beautiful. I have learned to love myself and Iām happy with who Iāve become throughout this 2 week journey.

Please help me, any advice will help
Hi everyone, so recently I have been getting acne all over my forehead and now more around my cheeks.
My skin type is Normal-Dry Skin
Also I know that my skin isnāt as bad as other people, however- I am only comparing my skin with myself. No one else.
I donāt know what to do to help make it better. I have a hard time maintaining my skin to keep it clear because one day could look nice then in 2 days I break out.
> I always try to drink 1500ml of water everyday
> However I do struggle a bit with eating. Some mornings I will skip breakfast and sometimes even lunch. If I eat something it could also be something sugary. I always want to eat and everything however, I just donāt have time to prepare and when thereās no food at home I just skip eating.
- I will for sure work on that but just eating 3 meals a day, will it change my skin? And what foods are best to eat?
Skin Care Routine:
CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser
Cetaphil - Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion
AvĆØne - CLEANANCE SUNSCREEN SPF 50+
(Sunscreen for the mornings)
I donāt have a solid routine and I am working on it. I just donāt want to use so much on my face.
What else is best to add to my routine?
How do I also take care of active acne? I know I shouldnāt pop them but sometimes theyāre just so big and I feel like thatās what everyone just see when they talk to me/look at me.

Brands I love ā¤ļø
For Valentine's day I figure I'd make a post about brands I LOVE and highly recomend!
Paulaās choice
I know I do not own many of her products and I think itās because I want to try other brands as I explore the vast skincare world. I already know this one is trustworthy in my book. They not only have a great resource with their ingredient dictionary, but they use that knowledge and transparency to formulate great products. Even the negative reviews on this brand that I've seen still say they formulate very well. They are slightly on the pricey side (expect about $40 or more), but you cannot go wrong. I love their PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator especially and have used their PAULA'S CHOICE - Defense Nightly Reconditioning Moisturizer
Krave Beauty
They donāt carry a lot of products in their brand, but like a fine dining restaurant with a small menu, what they make is their specialty. Their products are reasonably priced and they focus on non-irritating effective ingredients to help your skin barrier. I currently have their Krave - Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser and their Krave - Great Barrier Relief
Inkey List
I love this brand and that they are making simple products with usually only once active and that allows people to try them to see how it effects their skin for a reasonable price. I currently have their rosehip oil because I didnāt know how my skin would react to it, but itās known for hydrating and evening skin tone. I currently use their THE inkey LIST - Rosehip Oil
Cosrx
Another good brand that formulates well while still being very reasonably priced. I love their COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and COSRX - Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence
CeraVe
A tried and true brand. There is a reason why dermatologists recommend this. CeraVe is formulated with non irritating ingredients, that may make them seem āboringā by not being packed with actives, but effective. I have a few of their products. CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream and CeraVe - Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum

Skin Barrier Compromised?
What does that look like?
ļæ¼It can be excess drying. During the day are you ask yourself if you even put on moisturizer on in the morning because it's feeling like your going to crack throughout the day? This could be your skin's way of telling you that it's barrier is starting to weaken
ļæ¼It can be peeling. Is your skin starting to peel either right when you wake up or throughout the day?
ļæ¼It can be unexplained zits that appear. Are you wondering why after you just went out and spent a bunch of money on products that your zits are worse?
ļæ¼It can be red and sensitive. Does it hurt when you put on certain products that didn't hurt before? Does even putting water on your skin hurt?
All of these are signs of a damaged skin barrier. So what can cause this?
ļæ¼Using too many actives is a big one. Sometimes we don't even know it either since some products don't always label their active ingredients on their packaging. Best way to know is to read the ingredients list and be able to pinpoint them (don't worry there are several websites and apps that can help break down ingredients to help you understand what they do)
ļæ¼This really plays along with the first one, but over exfolianting. How often are you exfolianting? Do you know all the products in your routine that have exfoliantinf ingredients?
ļæ¼Combining too many irritating ingredients. For example exfolianting the same night as using a retinol or using either of them too much. Using vitamin A (retinol or tretinoin) can be irritating if you go straight into it. You have to work it slowly into your routine and can't just start using it every day or even every other day.
Alright, What do we do now that we know what it is and what might have caused it?
ļæ¼Go see your dermatologist if possible. If you can't, don't worry. There are other things you can do
ļæ¼Take out actives (especially exfoliants and retinol)
ļæ¼Keep your skincare simple with as little irritants in your skin care routine as possible (if you know me, you know I don't like fragrance in my skincare, and this is why. Fragrence is one of those ingredients to steer clear of especially during this time)
ļæ¼It mean real simple and "boring" products. Think CeraVe or Cetaphil. Skin-fix is another good one or some products from first aid beauty. Krave also has a good focus on the skin barrier and has a product out
ļæ¼Use only your cleansers, maybe a simple HA serum, your moisturizer, and in the AM your spf (use a mineral spf during this time, not a chemical)
ļæ¼Need examples of product? For me when I run into this problem, I use.....
LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser
CeraVe - Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum
Krave - Barrier Relief
CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream
BARE REPUBLIC - Mineral Face Sunscreen Lotion SPF 70

Why This Product is Dangerous: FDA FLAGGED
So Iāve been hearing so much positivity around the neutrogena hydro boost skincare line, I decided to try their SPF sunscreen.
I put it on and day 1 I noticed my nose was running throughout the day and I couldnāt figure out why, day two I applied it my eyelids started swelling and my nose was running severely my skin also started to sting around my eyes. I knew immediately it must be the sunscreen as it was the only thing new in my skincare line.
I washed my face off with both oil and gel cleansers and I left my face bare for the rest of the day, after a couple hours my eyes settled down but my nose ran for the rest of the day.
Determined to figure out what happened I started looking into the products in the sunscreen. I noticed OxyBenzone and googled it.
I found out Oxybenzone can be responsible for a lot of different things when applied on the skin such as;
šš»Acne
šš»Skin Rash
šš»Contact Dermatitis
šš»Inflammation of hair follicle
šš» Skin Irritation
Not only that but it can disrupt your hormones: estrogen in women and testosterone in males.
So why do they use it?
Because itās a cheap way to protect against UV rays that cause sunburn (UVB) and skin Cancer (UVA)
š Oxybenzone Is actually under FDA investigation.
So make sure you know whatās in your sunscreen before you put it on.

HydroBoost Always Makes Me Smile š
Everyone should by now know my love for sunscreen. Every chance I get, I spread the word of that POC need sunscreen too. I always recommend two sunscreens - BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN - Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 and Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Sunscreen SPF 50 .
I saw this product ( Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15) and I immediately wanted to try it. Itās a lower SPF than Iām used to but I still wanted to try it due to the fact that it acts as a moisturizer and an sunscreen! Thatās huge! Also, I canāt ignore the fact that it is non-comedogenic (doesnāt block pores) and that it is so light weight compared to most creams out there. Maybe itās because itās not a cream! Itās gel and Iām loving it (patch test approved!). Itās also long lasting and absorbs quickly into the skin. I canāt wait to try this amazing product.

Extra Hydration for your Puffy š
I donāt believe in eye creams. I donāt think they work too well. They are usually thick and annoying. I donāt usually use too many creams for my eyes.
This made me a believer! š¤©
I always look tired. My eyes are dark due to hyperpigmentation and lack of sleep. I have tried everything to reverse that tired dull feeling when it comes to my eyes. This is calming, soothing and hydrating. It actually makes me look awake and alive. I use The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG and this to help brighten as well as hydrate my stressed eyes. It has changed my life and I really love this stuff so very much.
I will say I am not happy with the price! It is $16 at Walgreens and Iām not gonna lie - I didnāt buy it until I had a coupon. I heard itās cheaper other places but only by a few bucks. With there being so little in the jar and the price being sooooo high, I gave the SOAP & GLORY - Puffy Eye Attack Turbo-Boost Hydragel a lower score than it should have been and thatās so sad because itās an amazing product.

Under Eye Hydragel š
Iāve been looking for eye creams for awhile now and most times they seem like a ridiculous price. This little gem was 13.99 at target and I jumped!
My expectations werenāt high because of the price but after 1-2 weeks of continued use I was thrilled!! It has an ultra calming and cooling affect on the eye and instantly makes them feel more awake. Itās creamy, silky and glides on the skin so smooth with no weird after feeling. After daily uses I noticed my dark circles to diminish and the baggage my eyes were carrying is gone. I can also see a slight improvement on the wrinkles around my eye as well. After the 1-2 weeks I noticed I didnāt have to use it as often and could use it just when needed.
You need little product so this tiny jar will last you for some time. Currently I still have mine and am on the third month. This is safe and gentle to use twice daily. I am now only using in the morning or just the days were I need a pop!

From Day što Nightšš
I have NEIBOURHOOD BOTANICALS - The Daily Glow Facial Oil but I forgot to mention I also got NEIBOURHOOD BOTANICALS - Dream Dream Dream Night Facial Oil. Of course I had to get both!
They both have different things that are best used at different times of the day but both have one thing in common- Vitamin C. The real difference is that it also contains other vitamins and fatty acids that are meant to heal and āreplumpā the skin overnight.
While doing my research, it is also said to regenerate skin cells but thatās a bit harder to believe. That is something that properly applied acids in a skincare regimen are used to do - not oils but maybe Iām wrong. We shall see!
Today is my first day using The Daily Glow and Iām impressed. Iām hoping to have the same reaction with the night oil!

š„°About to try something šš„³
NEIBOURHOOD BOTANICALS - The Daily Glow Facial Oilhas been on my radar after a friend raved about it during a exceptionally long FaceTime call. I saw it on sale and decided to purchase it. I was running out of my two facial oils -The Ordinary - 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil and The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil - and maybe I need to try something new. Iām hoping it lives up to the hype!

Soothing š The Toner That Changed My Mornings
Iām used to toners like bliss - What A Melon Replenishing Watermelon Toner , BiorĆ© - Witch Hazel Toner and bliss - Clear Genius Clarifying Toner + Serum which arenāt bad but this one changed my perspective on what toners are supposed to be. LANCĆME - Tonique Confort Comforting Rehydrating Toner w/Hyaluronic Acid, Acacia Honey & Sweet almond Oil is hydrating, alcohol-free and soothing. It doesnāt have that harsh tingling sensation that toners usual give. Instead, it feels more like a serum and its milk-like texture is absorbed by the skin very quickly. I love the way it feels and it calms down any irritation I have on my face. My skin feels softer tbh and I really like it. š„°
Sinnamorollz
Surprisingly good!
I never thought LANCĆME - Tonique Confort Comforting Rehydrating Toner would work the way it did. I have known about this product for a very long time but never thought about trying despite all the five stars until the day I got the deal of 50% off somewhere sorry I forgot where :(
It comes out like silk but with somewhat thick consistency. I always use my palms to apply everything. I rubbed my palms and pat on my face. Here comes the magic, itās absorbed by my skin beautifully with zero irritation. I sometimes even do a second layer just to experience the comfort feeling.
Love it š

AM ROUTINE - summer 2020
SKIN TYPE - āļø: combination/oily āļø: normal/dry
LOCATION - New York City
STEP 1 - CLEANSE KIND OF
GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Makeup Remover
Full disclosure, I do think almost all micellar waters are created equal, and they would all get 5āļø. If I did everything right the night before, all my skin needs in the morning is a swipe of this (AND a rinse!) to get my skin prepped for the rest of my AM routine.
STEP 2 - SERUM(S)
Glossier. - Super Glow Vitamin C + Magnesium Serum
This 5% vitamin c derivative is, like all Glossier serums, non-sticky, quickly absorbing, and ultra lightweight. Itās a very stable version of vitamin c and at a lower percent than others, which makes it great for sensitive skin or a vitamin c newbie. But for the price, you can get cheaper and stronger from other brands.
āāāāāāāāāā
Glossier. - Super Bounce Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin B5 Serum
This is my ideal follow-up after vitamin c, and I use it all over my face. The hyaluronic comes in three different forms/molecular weights, so the hydrating effects are long-lasting as long as you seal it in properly. That being said, itās an intro hyaluronic serum with a higher-than-average price tag.
STEP 3 - MOISTURIZE
bliss - Drench & Quench Moisturizer
The texture of this is perfect for daytime if you crave watery moisture and already have multiple skincare steps. This is light but smooth, absorbs quickly, and the color just makes you feel like youāre smoothing thickly textured water directly on your skin! It smells deliciously clean in the jar, but doesnāt seem too strong, as it fades pretty quickly once applied.
STEP 4 - SPF
Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50 With Sunflower Extract
The texture didnāt thrill me - though it absorbed very well (no white cast), it was a little heavy for my taste. doesnāt read greasy at all once applied. I can definitely see using this on my face for super sweaty days outside, but for now Iāll continue to use on my body only.

my morning skincare routine āØ
so i want to start out by sharing some information about my skin. i have quite sensitive skin that tends to be on the dry side. i feel bad saying this, but my skin is mostly clear thanks to genetics. but, that doesnāt mean i donāt put the work in to keep my skin clear!! iāve tried out quite a few different products, but these are the ones that i find myself reaching for more often in the morning.
cleanser
in the morning, i like to use a gentle, hydrating cleanser. lately iāve been using the Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cleanser . itās a nice cleanser, but i wouldnāt say it does much for my skin. more often than not though, i find myself coming back to the CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser , which is so gentle and especially good for my dryer days. it always leaves my skin feeling soft once i wash it off.
toner
for toner, iāve really been loving the PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner . itās nothing special, just a milky toner that does a lovely job of adding extra hydration to my skin. iāve been trying to cut down on my daily waste, so that means iāve stopped purchasing cotton rounds. to apply, i just put a few drops into my palms and press it into my skin.
serum
my go-to has always been the The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 . again, dry skin!! i just really love products that hydrate my skin. i just put a few drops on my fingers and gently pat it in.
recently iām trying out the NATURIUM - Vitamin C Complex Serum. i havenāt used it long enough to see an effect, but iāll definitely post an update if i notice some results!!
moisturizer
itās taken me wayyyy longer than necessary to find a moisturizer that doesnāt give me a reaction. iāve tried quite a few that left my face bright red and burning, and i also have an issue with texture. i absolutely hate the way that creams feel on my skin. maybe iām in the minority on this, but i am just not down with thick, rich, moisturizers. i really do prefer ones that are more of a watery gel-type. for the past six months, iāve been using the CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly , and i really like it!! itās fragrance-free, which is always a huge plus, and it does a good job of hydrating my skin. i usually apply one to two pumps on my face and neck.
sunscreen
ah yes, the most important part of the routine. iām incredibly sensitive to the active ingredients in chemical sunscreens, so i have to make sure iām using a mineral sunscreen. for the past year or so, iāve been using the tarte - Guard 30 Vegan Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30 . it leaves a bit of a white cast if i donāt rub it in enough, but other than that, i like this!! it always adds a bit of glowiness to my skin, which i am always here for!!
thank you so much for reading!! š

Skincare Guide
A step-by-step guide for anyone from beginners to skin care experts.
You can individualize it into your own routine, depending on your skin type, needs, and desires.
Personally, I only adhere to 5 steps. I skip toners, eye treatment, and masks as it can be redundant at times and I add exfoliating 1-3 times a week on top of everything. I also highly recommend adding serum day and night.
(Ex. The American skincare routine is usually 5 steps, whereas, the Korean skincare routine is up to 10 steps.) As you can see, we can all personalize our own guide but I recommend following the order even when you skip a step or two for the most advantageous skincare results.

Rate My Routine
I'm pretty new to skin care routines. I am 41, have normal to oily combo skin, some hyperpigmentation and no active acne. I got a gift card for Amazon and I want to use it on mymyself and get something for my skin. I have TO Niamicide being delivered today and after that I'm at a loss. HELP!
The Ordinary-Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%
Hyaluronic Acid + Tea Tree For A Smooth, Clear Complexion
Hyaluronic acid comes in different names, and one of them is sodium hyaluronate. HA is a substance thatās naturally present in our body. But, just like other substances that our body naturally produces, its regeneration slows down as we age. Some experts call hyaluronic acid the āfountain of youthā as itās a potent anti-aging substance that keeps the skin plump and youthful. It also minimizes fine lines. Cosmetic doctors use it as a main ingredient in fillers to treat their patientās wrinkles; others use it to achieve fuller, more luscious lips. Iāve been a fan of HA since I find it helpful for my dry combination skin.
Tea tree is known for its antimicrobial properties hence, itās very popular among individuals with oily, acne-prone skin types. But, itās not just good for those who suffer from acne. It does wonders to people who suffer from redness and irritation, just like me. I like using products with this ingredient to help with the redness on my cheeks area, and to treat my occasional zit that usually sprouts during that time of the month. Tea tree has anti-inflammatory properties that help in treating skin inflammation, redness, irritation that I usually get as I have sensitive skin.
This Shiseido creamy cleanser is perfect as it doesnāt strip away my skinās natural oils because it has HA in it. I like following it with this really affordable toner from the clean beauty brand, Human Nature. Together, they do wonders in keeping the moisture locked in my dry combination face, and treating the redness in my cheeks too. Definitely recommend this combo!
A.M. Routine āØ
After seeing a dermatologist, I have started using clindamycin gel in the AM and tretinoin cream in the PM for my persistent acne. I also have dry, sensitive skin so I am taking things slow. For 2-4 weeks, Iāll be using the clindamycin gel every other day, and then every day as prescribed. My P.M. post details how I use the tretinoin cream. Here is my A.M. routine!
CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser This is a gentle, creamy cleanser thatās perfect for dry, sensitive skin. It leaves my skin feeling soft & hydrated, not stripped.
PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner This is a new addition to my routine, and I absolutely love it! It has a milky texture and leaves my skin feeling soft & less irritated. I apply it with a reusable fabric pad.
PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum This is also a new addition to my routine. I like this product, but I donāt love it. I will be trying out the Krave Great Barrier Relief serum when Iām out of this.
Clindamycin Gel- I apply a pea-size amount of the gel every other day. I apply dots of the gel on my cheeks, chin, nose, and forehead before gently rubbing it in.
CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin After letting everything dry, I apply this moisturizing cream. Itās very thick, but for the most part absorbs into the skin. There is some left on top to form a protective barrier. I re-apply throughout the day on extra dry & irritated areas. I will be trying out First Aid Beautyās Ultra Relief Cream to see if I like it better.
Rodan and Fields Soothe Sunscreen- This is a mineral, broad spectrum sunscreen with 30 SPF. I have been using it for over a year, and I really love it. It leaves my skin feeling soft & less red/irritated. I will be trying the Purito Centella Unscented sunscreen to see if I like it better than this one.
