Hey Babes, ***Vulnerable moment*** For years, I have struggled with having a dark ring around my mouth. As a young girl, I would lick around my lips a lot and I wore no type of sunscreen....nada😂. Naturally, I have always had dark lips so the hyperpigmentation around my mouth made it even worse. My skincare journey officially started in February of 2020. During this time, I educated myself on hyperpigmentation and the importance of sunscreen. I became consistent with sunscreen and used Neutrogena’s HydroBoost sunscreen, Paulas Choice and now I currently use Black Girl Sunscreen! (Sunscreen errday😂) Hyperpigmentation was a topic I was really interested in and was also one of the first topics I shared on my Instagram page. (The pictures from the photo grid were pictures taken in 2019 and the last picture was taken right before this post. ) After watching plenty of YouTube videos and articles, I was ready to get rid of my hyperpigmentation before the summer of 2020. It turns out this goal wasn’t realistic for me. Let me share with you why.... To treat my hyperpigmentation, I bought the Alpha Arbutin Serum from the Ordinary. I read and heard that this product was really good for treating hyperpigmentation so I said...why not? I was consistent with this for a month but my skin looked the same (I heard this serum really takes time to work) So I stopped using it and started using it again later the following month but I wasn’t consistent. During the summer (the time I was suppose to reach my goal of getting rid of hyperpigmentation) I purchased the Vitamin C Serum from Nolaskinsentials. I really liked this serum. Although it did not completely fade the dark area. It did reduce the color of the darkness. But still!! Due to my lack of patience, I stopped using it because it wasn’t going away fast enough....( I wanted results so badly lol) I lowkey gave up on it and just continued to treat my skin as a whole. As I developed my skin routines, my skin became more brighter and was glowing! I learned to accept and love the dark ring around my mouth. 2020 allowed me to be okay with having hyperpigmentation and truly accept it. It helped me to remind myself that I was still beautiful with hyperpigmentation. I learned that I have to be patient with my skin. Some people do not fully reach their “skin goals” in a short period. It can take them months to about a year. I needed patience!! Now that we are in a new year, we are gonna try this again but with patience! 🤍 I am currently using the Vitamin C Serum from Youth to the People. I received it as a pr package and the serum is overall decent for my skin. If you all have any further suggestions, let me know in the comments🥰
