My Thoughts so Far on Rare Beauty
I purchased this Rare Beauty - Best of Rare Beauty Lip & Cheek 2 Piece Mini Duo back in November from Sephora for $15. It contains 2 mini products: dewy lip balm in “thankful” and matte liquid blush in “bliss”. Lip balm: “Thankful” is a nude-mauve shade. It has sheer pigmentation on 1st swipe but can easily be built up with 2 or 3 layers. This isn’t a “throw it on without a mirror” tinted balm because of that, so if that’s what you’re looking for I don’t recommend. I personally don’t mind that. The formula is creamy, comfortable, and makes my lips look juicy. The color goes with most looks, too. I can see myself picking up a full size! Liquid blush: “Bliss” is a pinky nude that would work for fair-light skin tones. There are other shades in the full size line that would work well for deeper skin, and Rare also offers a 4-piece set with some other shades. A little goes a long way with this. I like to apply to my hand, spread it out,and then apply with a brush. I’ve found if I try to apply directly to my cheek, it can pick up product underneath or can dry too quickly. It dries down completely. It wears very well throughout the day. I’d love to check out other shades and the dewy formula! Price & availability: $15USD Sold online at Sephora and the brand’s website. As of today both list out of stock, but hopefully it comes back.

This Gave Me the WORST Reaction EVER
I was STOKED that Youth to the People was releasing a vitamin C serum. Before the launch, YTTP asked if they could send the serum to me. I’ve enjoyed working with them in the past and have purchased many products from them myself. The YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - 15% Vitamin C + Clean Caffeine Energy Serum contains three forms of vitamin C (ethyl ascorbic, tetrahexyldecyl, & magnesium ascorbyl phosphate), yerba mate, passion fruit, dragon fruit, and squalane to brighten, hydrate, and firm the skin. The formula is vegan, cruelty-free, no added fragrance, and comes in recyclable packaging. Unfortunately, this serum did not work for me and I only used it once. Within hours of application, my face became inflamed, irritated, bumpy, and itchy. My forehead was the most significantly affected, as well as my chin and parts of my cheeks. (Photo 2) I’ve shared on Cherie before that I have a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis on the sides of my forehead, nose, and eyes. This serum caused a full-on flare-up of my dermatitis. My lips also became inflamed about 3 days after. It’s been 7 days since the reaction, and my skin is doing better in the sense that it’s less inflamed and most of the texture on my forehead is gone; however, I’m now peeling in several areas. My lip inflammation is about 50% reduced. Moral of the story, y’all, is to patch test. Though the only new product I tried that day was the serum, I decided to do a patch test on my arm (photo 3), and my skin reacted to it within 24 hours. My arm still looks like that 7 days later. Had I done the patch test first, I would never have used it on my face. I love YTTP as a brand - this is just a miss for me. I did inform the company and they were appreciative of my feedback.

The Most Misleading Scent Ever
When I saw this hand lotion on Ulta’s website for $2.99 (or 5 for $5), I didn’t exactly expect anything groundbreaking, but I did expect....some semblance of mint. I purchased 3 of these - 1 to keep for myself and 2 to send to my sisters as part of a holiday care package. This hand lotion smells like perfume. Not a minty perfume, either. I’m not great at describing scents, so my best try is powdery floral with absolutely zero mint. The formula itself is okay. It’s semi-moisturizing for everyday use, but not something I’d use when my hands are super dry and cracked. It only feels moisturizing for about an hour or two. I also purchased the bubble bath from this same line and that doesn’t smell like mint either. I’m not going to return them because in the end I’m only out a few bucks, but I can’t recommend and would not repurchase.

FAB to the Rescue!
I haven’t been posting on Cherie the last 2 weeks because I’ve unfortunately been dealing with a very stubborn case of seborrheic dermatitis on the sides of my forehead, nose, and between my brows. The affected areas have been dry, flaky, and irritated. I did see a dermatologist and am using a topical treatment. Due to skin irritation, I decided it was best to really strip back my skincare routine. I’ve only been cleansing, occasionally using a hydrating toner, using the RX topical treatment, and moisturizing. No actives, no sleep masks, no oils, and avoiding anything with added fragrance to reduce any chance of irritation. I purchased a mini set from First Aid Beauty (FAB) quite a while ago that contained 2oz sizes of the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream and FIRST AID BEAUTY - Pure Skin Face Cleanser . FAB always has sets available that contain these, and the 2oz sizes are more than generous enough to try the formulas. I love the cream for my body and face because it contains soothing colloidal oatmeal. The cleanser lathers up but isn’t stripping at all. My face feels clean and soft after washing. I wait a few minutes after applying my topical treatment, then gently pat some of the cream to seal in some moisture and soothe. Though my skin is still flaky and dry in some areas, I noticed an improvement after a few days of this routine vs very little progress for the 2 weeks prior when I was using different products. ****Please note that you should see a dermatologist if you’re having persistent skin problems. I just wanted to share some items that really helped me.

*EASY* Blood Drip Nail Tutorial ☠️
It doesn’t get much easier than than this nail look, folks. This is perfect for last minute Halloween nails or if (like me) you’re not the best with nail art. The messier and more imperfect this look is - the better! Chances are you’ve probably got these items in your collection already. Below are the steps, but I do suggest watching my video! What you’ll need: -tooth pick or nail art pen -paper towel -deep red nail polish (bright red OK too) -top coat Steps: 1. Pre-step if first time: Practice drawing the pattern on your paper towel. 2. Start with clean nails. 3. Dab a generous amount of polish onto your paper towel 4. Dip the tip of toothpick or nail art pen into the polish 5. Dot the polish heavily onto your nail. Add more dots if desired. 6. Drag polish upwards towards the tip of your nail from the top part of the dot. You may need to add more polish. 7. Taking more polish, apply to the tips of your nails. Don’t worry about being precise (unless you want to!) - the more haphazard the more gruesome ☠️ 8. Repeat on all nails 9. Once dry, apply top coat 10. Clean up edges with nail polish remover - or don’t if you want a gory look! Current Lip Care Routine
Lip care is super important to me. I have dry, chapped lips year-round, but this routine has helped mitigate some of those effects. Especially heading into colder weather, make sure you’re taking care of your lips 👄 I am almost done with the LUSH - Mint Julips Lip Scrub . There’s probably 2-3 uses left. I either use this in the PM 1-2x/wk with my finger or a lip scrubber brush. I purchased a 3-pack of these silicone scrub brushes on Amazon for around $5 (these particular ones not currently available but plenty of others). I simply apply a small amount of scrub to the applicator (see photo) and gently rub my lips for about 20-30 seconds. The scrub is self-preserving and edible, so sometimes I do lick a few of the crystals off or wash away with water. They taste like Girl Scout thin mint cookies! I would definitely repurchase this scrub, and it’s lasted me over 2 years. $12 During the daytime, I like to apply a tiny drop of SERAPHINE botanicals - Sugarcane Lip Drops Leave-on Lip Exfoliator & Primer This thin gel formula has sugarcane and panthenol for gentle exfoliation and help lock in moisture. This is great for applying under lip products, especially drying liquid lipsticks. I find my lip color lasts a bit longer, too. It has a sweet scent, but NGL doesn’t taste too good haha. Gifted by the brand. It’s a bit pricey at $21, but this tube will last me super long because I use the tiniest amount (see photo). I always use a lip mask at night. I keep the BITE - Agave+ Nighttime Vegan Lip Therapy in my bathroom cabinet, and the SERAPHINE botanicals - Fruit Butter Lip Mask on my vanity in case I forget to apply after brushing my teeth. I use one of these lip masks directly after using the lip scrub. I have also used the Seraphine during the day under lip products or to hydrate underneath my mask (bc COVID). The Seraphine has a sweet candy scent and smooth texture thanks to shea butter and apricot kernel. The BITE also had a sweet scent (sort of honey-like to me) and smooth texture thanks to agave nectar, jojoba, sunflower, & safflower oils. I think the Seraphine absorbs a bit better, but I do like and recommend both. BITE $24, Seraphine $24 (gifted by brand) All brands mentioned are cruelty-free and these products are all vegan. Top Foundation Brushes!
It’s important to know the coverage level that your foundation provides and the one that your brush provides to understand what look you’re trying to create. None of these brushes leave streaks! REAL TECHNIQUES - Blend + Blur Foundation Brush This brush is the one that provides the highest level of coverage, as the bristles are the shortest. I also love the design of this brush, it makes it easier to handle. The technique also provides an airbrush look too due to its blending properties. sonia kashuk - Essential Flat-Top Foundation Brush Flat top brushes provide a high level of coverage since the length of the bristles are also pretty short. Sonia Kashuk brushes are also pretty amazing. They have been so far the best line of brushes I have used, so far (haven’t tried many, to be honest), and is the reason for why I only use this brand for a full make-up look. These bristles are the softest (that I have used so far) and work great with liquid foundations. If you have a lower coverage foundation (cc-creams, bb-creams, tinted moisturizers), but want to create a fuller coverage, then you can use this brush. e.l.f. - Selfie Foundation Blurring Brush This is an oval dual fiber brush and this is the brush that provides the lowest level of coverage due to the length of the bristles. This is the reason for why I use it with my full coverage foundation, to create a more natural and sheer look. This brush is also perfect to build coverage due go the level of coverage it provides. The bristles are pretty soft, and this glides smoothly in your face.

2020s Biggest Trend: Dermatologist Approved
The biggest trend in 2020 is PERSONLIZRD SERUMS. I tried #Atolla and here are my genuine thoughts (SURPRISE AT THE END OF CAPTION!) Do you ever feel like there are too many skincare products out there and have no idea what you need? Trust me, it’s happened to me too! I have been using #ATOLLA which is a company that formulates serums with a mixture of ingredients to target with your skin needs. Here are some of the benefits: 1) The serum is personalized for your skin. 2) you are able to monitor your skin changes each month with a skin test 3) Your formulation is altered monthly to target your problem areas. 4) It formulates several key ingredients into one serum, rather than buying separate creams. 5) it takes into account the products you are currently using. My initial skin concerns when completing my skin quiz with Atolla was battling dry skin as well as skin hyperpigmentation. They sent me a product with vitamin C complex as well as Alpha Arbutin. Vitamin C acts as my antioxidant against sun damage, evens out my hyperpigmentation, increases collagen, and increases hydration. Combining this with alpha arbutin, which targets the enzyme that produces pigment, only further reduced my hyperpigmentation. Like everything, results did not come overnight, but with consistent use, I was able to really even out my skin pigment and hydrate my skin. 🎉🎉🎉CHERIE SURPRISE 🎉🎉🎉 I've asked Atolla to give my CHERIE APP followers an exclusive code “DRCHRIS” for 25% off! Excited to see what you guys think!! 🙌🙌 Atolla - Custom Serum INGREDIENT BREAKDOWN:⤵️ The vitamin C helps with collagen growth, hyperpigmentation, as well as sun damage. The Alpha arbutin targets primarily hyperpigmentation creating an even skin tone. Depending on your product, you can use it in the morning or night.
Friendly neighbourhood Hypochondriacs patch test
My favourite method of dealing with the annoying proccess of patch testing my new products is to set aside half an hour for a super gentle face mask i know my skin can handle and then go to town drawing grids on my arm (i use squid ink piercing/tattoo marker as its hypo-allergenic and i dont want the pen to casue irritation that gets blamed on the masks.) I had three new products to test today but obviosly could have kept drawing as far down my forearm as necessary. The far left column is left on for 10 minutes. middle is a controll and far right is 30 minutes. From top to bottom we have Noeu charcoal and mud mask The Body shop chinese chinseng and rice mask Skinstitut hydrating mask. as these where fine and I'll now redo the patch tests using the skin behind my ears. then they graduate to approved facial products. it can be annoying to set aside the time to patch test new products. but its 1000x easier then an unexpected trip to the dermatologist. and throwing away or rehoming a product you react to is also probably cheaper then a dermatologist. long story short patchtest your products and avoid damage, plus pamper yourself at the same time :) skincare time is you time take it wherever you can :) x
My First Zero-Waste Makeup Buy
We’re in an exciting time for beauty now that more brands have been prioritizing sustainability. One cosmetic product that it blowing my mind with its commitment to eco-friendly products is the blush and highlight Balmies from clean beauty brand Axiology. They’re designed to be zero-waste and are wrapped in recyclable paper instead of a plastic tube. Even the case they come in can be recycled, which is amazing! AXIOLOGY - Lip-To-Lid Balmies I got the Of The Earth Trio (Caramel, Nude Plum and Cherry) and I’m loving these little balms. They’re your average crayon formula and design but smaller than others on the market. This trio is described as having desert spice and warm earthy vibes, which I am very into, and each crayon can be used on the cheeks, lips, or eyes depending on the look you’re going for. Compared to other highlight and blush crayons, these are smaller and thinner, which is because of their minimal packaging and tube-less/capless design. According to the website, their size is actual the standard size, but traditional packaging bulks them up more. The formula is also a bit dryer than others I’ve tried. But unlike similar products, the Balmies are formulated without synthetic fragrance, alcohol, fragrance, gluten and soy and are cruelty-free and vegan. The brand sticks by a 10 ingredients or less motto and also doesn’t use palm oil, which isn’t harvested in the most eco-friendliest of ways. Instead, the Balmies contain oils, butters, and antioxidants such as elderberry, hemp, and plum oil to nourish, heal and hydrate skin. As I mentioned before, the formula wasn’t as creamy as I thought it would be and fell on the drier side. I applied the crayon straight to my cheeks, eyes and lips and was afraid that it wasn’t going to blend out nicely, but then I used my finger and the warmth helped move the product and it ended up looking really natural and seamless. If you’re using it on the lips, I will say that the it looked more like a tinted balm than a lipstick - it looked like a blurred, sheer tint rather than full-on lipstick. Since the formula is more on the drier side, it made it a little hard to blend out on the lips – so definitely prep with a lip balm. The Trio is $36 and the Balmies on their own are $14 each. $36 is a lot for how little they are, but I feel like their clean formula and sustainable packaging are worth it in the long run. Overall, I love these Balmies and I’m so impressed by how sustainable and eco-friendly they are. What are some of your favorite eco-friendly makeup finds? #CherieCreator
NEW BEAUTY: Rare Beauty Holiday Kit Review ✨
Hey guys! I recently picked up this NEW holiday kit from Rare Beauty. I was so excited to see their holiday kits since their line is pretty inexpensive but I don’t know if I could justify buying, like, ALL full size items, you know? Their products have been super hyped this year so far so I wanted to try more from them without breaking the bank. This is their least expensive kit this year, coming in at $15 at Sephora. YUP, $15! It includes a mini lip balm in “thankful” (a cool toned plum) and a mini matte blush in “bliss” (lighter peach). The mini blush is bigger than the deluxe sample I’ve shown in past posts and will last SO LONG! To be absolutely clear with you guys, I have fair skin with pink undertones and my skin type is sensitive/combination dry. Let’s get into my thoughts: LIP BALM: Rare Beauty - With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm this lip balm comes in this bundle in the shade “thankful.” I always love a good tinted lip balm but wow...this one is FREAKIN PIGMENTED! It looks a bit strange if I am wearing it without any other makeup on. It’s just a little too cool toner against my pink undertones. However, I really do like the formula and might pick it up in the clear color someday! It feels super comfortable and the color doesn’t bleed all over your mouth. It doesn’t have any color but just a light sweet vanilla scent. Since I don’t like the color I’m rating it a 4/5 stars. MATTE BLUSH: Rare Beauty - Soft Pinch Liquid Blush this matte blush formula comes in this bundle in the shade “bliss.” I currently also own this formula in the shade “grace” which is MUCH darker and harder to control (I think grace would look perfect on darker skin tones) so I am so happy to have a lighter version that doesn’t make me low key look like a clown. I much prefer the dewy formula but the matte formula stays ALL DAY. For real. I’m rating this 5/5 because DAMN it’s gorgeous and I have more control with the lighter shade. I believe the products absolutely live up to their hype and I can’t wait to see what they do next. I actually might pick up another one of their holiday kits depending on my MOOD. You know? Have you tried anything from Rare Beauty? #CheriePartner
