PSL-inspired Mani + Pedi Tutorial

RebeccaSuzanne_Says
Though deemed “basic”, I truly love anything pumpkin - the color, scent, foods, decor, you name it. Of courseeee to kick off fall I wanted my first fall mani to be inspired by pumpkin. To be honest, this is the first time I’ve painted my nails (aside from my wedding day) since early August. My nails were in rough shape due to constantly painting them, so I took some much needed time off. I also don’t have the steadiest hands, so keep in mind that your mani could look much cleaner than mine! This mani is a PSL- inspired (pumpkin spice latte) French tips with solid colored pedi. The star polish of these nail looks is DECO MIAMI - PSL Nail Lacquer
“PSL” (how aptly named). This polish isn’t the best quality-wise. It typically chips within two days, but it’s too gorgeous not to use. It has a cream finish. I got it in a set I purchased a few years ago, but it is available for $12 on the Deco website if you’re interested. Do you have a fave burn orange shade? Leave it below! What You’ll Need: -a burnt orange nail polish -white nail polish (though pale cream would look great, too!) -base coat -top coat -paper reinforcements -tweezers (optional) Mani Steps: 1. Apply your base coat to clean, polish-free nails. 2. Apply at least 2 coats of your burnt orange polish so that your nails are coated opaquely. Let your polish dry for a minimum of 2 hours. Longer is better. You could even do this step the night before. 3. Using tweezers or your fingers (I like tweezers), remove one of the paper reinforcements from its sheet. Lay it on top of your nail so that a small, slightly rounded section is left at the top (the tip). Press down firmly with your free hand so that it sticks (this is why your nails must be super dry or your base polish may come off). 4. Apply an opaque layer of white polish to the tip of the nail. It’s okay if the polish touches the reinforcement. As long as you pressed down, you should get a fairly clean edge. 5. Slowly + carefully remove the paper reinforcement with your other hand or tweezers (I use tweezers) immediately after applying the white tip. 6. Repeat with all other nails on this hand. 7. If any of your edges aren’t as clean as you’d like, you can go back with your burnt orange polish and clean them up with a tiny bit of polish. Let completely dry before applying top coat. 8. Repeat on next hand. Pedi Steps: Repeat steps 1-2 and apply top coat once dry. I personally find it easier to completely finish 1 hand before doing my next hand, but if you’re a mani pro, feel free to breeze through these steps. Also, if you have steadier hands, try free-handing your tips instead of using paper reinforcements. Products I Used: Deco Miami “PSL”, SINFULCOLOR - SINFULCOLOR Professional Nail Polish

These Products SAVED My Nails
Oooof my nails were in rough shape for most of spring and summer. Constantly painting my nails had caused my nails to weaken, peel, and some discoloration. For pretty much all of 2020 (until a week ago) the nail on my index finger would split in the same exact spot. At the beginning of August I decided to stop painting my nails and focus on recovery. I purchased a set from Nails Inc from Sephora for $25. It contained a gel effect polish (that I wore for my wedding day and immediately removed), nail file, superfood oil, 45-second top coat, and nail treatment/base coat. I’m going to talk about 2 items from that set that saved my nails. They’re available for purchase on their own, but as of right now the set is still in stock and is an excellent bang for your buck because everything is full size. *update 9/29 - oil no longer available on its own at Sephora. Is available on brand’s website. The 4-piece set referenced above is available at Sephora still for $25 .INC. - Nails.Inc Mani Must Haves The .INC. - Superfood Nail and Cuticle Repair Oil feels so nice. It has a very light scent (can’t pinpoint it) and contains a lot of nourishing oils, including castor, argan, sweet almond, and soybean. I dab a tiny amount using the dropper on my cuticles and rub all over my nails for about 2-3 minutes a few times per week (usually 5ish days - more is better but I forget 🤷🏻‍♀️). It soaks in within a few minutes. $15 The .INC. - Back to Life Recovery Treatment & Base Coat is a great treatment because it contains nourishing oils, vitamins, and minerals. What I especially like is that it has a subtle pinky-nude tint which gives my nails an instant healthier-looking appearance. The directions say to apply 1-2 coats a few times per week. I find that when I do 2 coats I dislike the peeling after a few days, and it’s less noticeable with 1 coat. I like it as a base coat so far, though I’ve only painted my nails 2x since mid-September. I apply 1 coat every 4-5 days. Easy to apply and no scent. $15 I’ve noticed with the combo of these 2, my nails are peeling less and are growing a bit longer without breaking as frequently. They also feel stronger, and are visibly less stained than they were at the beginning of August. My right index finger nail didn’t split this week and I’m shook!! I like Nails Inc products a lot. They’re cruelty-free, and have vegan and halal items - oh and non-toxic!! They are available on the brand’s website and Sephora.com. I personally think their sets ($15+) are the best bang for your buck because most polishes on their own are $10-15 each. They have a lot of cool colors and finishes available. I especially love the polish brushes. They make it easy to apply. Been using this brand for years and will continue to! #CheriePartner

How I grow my natural nails
**Note that my nails used to be frail, brittle old things that could NEVER know length due to nail extensions! Just last year, I was so in love with getting nail extensions. The length, the designs, the colors—I did not go one week without my bare nails showing for most of 2019! Then last September, I decided my nails needed a break (and I needed to save some money!) so I started to rehab my nails! Rehabbing my nail beds The first thing to do is get your nail beds free from any damage from nail extensions. This takes some time! I let my nails grow but I always cut away when it started to get length. I was going off of the theory with hair; cutting it makes it grow faster. It worked because by November, my nail beds were healthy! Supplement growth To help my nails grow healthily, I took my biotin supplements. I love the nature bounty one bc it’s yummy mostly 😂 NATURE'S BOUNTY - Optimal Solutions Hair, Skin and Nails Gummies Prevent breakage A big reason my nails always broke was because I never protected them! So I started brushing them with .INC. - Back to Life Recovery Treatment & Base Coat which really kept it strong and healthy as it grew. I also stayed super conscious of doing things that would break my nails, like washing dishes, moving big items, etc. I live alone so I have to do all these things myself, therefore I wear gloves when doing dishes and try to avoid grabbing things with too much nail. Not sure how to explain the last one😬

Your nail polish Zodiac ✨
So I decided to have a little fun today and assign zodiac signs to my nail polish collection! It became a little hard when I realized all I owned was every shade of green, a few blues, and a few purples 😂 but we made it work! I’m really huge into the zodiac. I’m an Aries sun, Virgo moon, and Cancer rising. If you know your signs let me know below! Aries - Red and Gold. For this I chose the KL Polish Prince Cornelius as it’s a burnt red base (aka fire sign) with gold and silver suspended glitter. Taurus - Green earth tones. For this I chose Sinful Colors Electric Sage. To me Taurus’ seem chill until you get them to a certain point and they can be just as fiery as Aries. That’s why I choose a sage green with gold suspended glitter. Gemini - Top Coat/Transformer Polish. For this I chose Pacifica Crystal Gloss Top Coat in Milky Way. Just like Gemini’s have two sides this nail polish has two uses. You can use it as a beautiful holographic base coat or double up on layers for a beautiful purple opaque nail polish. Cancer - Grey. For this I chose KL Polish Graham. Most cancers I know in real life (including my ascending sign) are really moody so I chose Grey. Leo - Orange. For this I chose OPI Suzi Needs a Loch-Smith. Leo is a very bold and passionate fire sign. I chose orange for them as this bold color signifies that to me. Virgo - White. For this I chose OPI Alpine Snow. Virgo represents the virgin and white is what I think of. Libra - Gold. For this I chose OPI I Pull the Strings. Libras represent the scales which in my mind have always been gold. Scorpio - Black. For this I chose OPI Black Onyx. I feel like this is super cliche but there is no other sign I feel like black polish represents more than Scorpio (as much as I’d like it to be Aries 😂) Sagittarius - Blue. For this I chose KL Polish Cozy in There. Every Sag in my life is so nurturing, calm, and soothing. This pale denim blue is the most soothing shade I have in my collection. Capricorn - Earth tones. For this I chose OPI Things I’ve Seen in Aber-green. Capricorn is an earth sign so I choose a more brown green shade. Aquarius - Blue/Green shift. For this I chose OPI Nessie Plays Hide & Sea-k. Aquarius is the Water Bearer so naturally a blue green shift with suspended glitter to represent water seemed best. Pisces - Purple. For this I chose KL Polish Mozart. It seemed logical for Pisces to be a blue shade but I felt like it wasn’t quite right for them. Purple is still in the cool family but not stereotypical for a water sign.

🦋🦋🦋I got butterflies on my nails😍
🦋🦋🦋I got butterflies on my nails😍
Butterfly nails are a particularly popular style this summer. Many bloggers have been posting pictures of their manicures on Instagram, so I went to the nail salon with the blogger's picture and wanted to do the same. Step 1, clean your hands and trim your nails into a square shape (if you're doing something cute like a fruit manicure, consider a round one). Step 2 apply nail softener and repair dead skin Step 3 apply OPI - Nail Envy Nail Strengthener Original Formula Step 4: Apply cuticle cream and champagne color nail polish twice (usually 2 times for darker colors and 3 times for lighter colors) to illuminate and fix the nail color. Step 5: Stick two butterflies on your ring finger and thumb. Fix them with glue. Why I recommend this manicure: In summer, girls' clothes and colors are mainly white, pink and other fresh colors, which are suitable for butterfly nails. The one I made was about $40, and because of the complexity, remember to choose a professional nail salon. I hope all the girls can wear beautiful skirts, have beautiful nails this summer.

Top Coat on a Budget
Top Coat on a Budget
Hey, y’all! If you’re looking for a reliable top coat that’s in reach by way of a drugstore, try Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri (red bottle)! When I’m in a pinch (which is usually lol) this top coat saves the day by drying in 5 min or less while coming through with an incredible shine. I’ve been using this top coat for over 7 years and haven’t looked back. One critique would be that because of its great drying chemistry the top coat doesn’t have a very long shelf life like the average product. Personally for me, someone who nail paints everyday, it lasts at most 4 months on the shelf. If you have tried this or considering it let me know! 💕

My go to Simple mani style
My go to Simple mani style
When it comes to nails I’m a simple girl. I never get them done professionally, I always do them myself. I also work in a hospital so having short clean nails is a must so I never keep my nails long. I start by trimming my nails with some clippers, then file in a rounded shape. Lately I’ve been using this sally Hansen top/bottom coat and while it’s OK it’s definitely not my favorite. I then follow with 2 coats of my chosen nail polish ( here I used Essie in shade “mooning”). After that dries I apply a top coat and let dry. To add some fun/pop I did a glitter accent nail on each hand. It was an ELF polish that I got in a gift set some time ago. Unfortunately this only lasted me about 3 days before major chipping happened. I chalk it up to the top/base coat not being the best.

Essie - Honest Nail Polish Review 🦋
Essie - Honest Nail Polish Review 🦋
Hello lovies! I am back with another nail polish review because I want to share with y’all my honest feedback on this essie - essie Enamel Nail Polish ! Let’s begin with the fact that the first time I came across this specific shade was YEARS ago! I have a spot in my town with a massive Essie collection and this color spoke to me. I ended up moving two years ago and misplaced tons of my nail polish collection 😕. Then, last year I had my grad school graduation where my department color was teal! So I bought Bikini So Teeny (review done as well) and it was fantastic, which then lead me to buy another Essie color... Mint Candy Apple! It’s been a year since I’ve had this baby in my collection and it’s still going strong! This Essie product retails for $8.99. Its a light pea minty green shade that would look fantastic on all skin tones 👏🏼! The texture of the color is light but very easy to build up to get a full coverage nail. I usually do 2-3 coats of nail polish before applying a top coat. I’ve never had a problem with an Essie brand nail polish brush and that makes for a nice smooth application 💅🏼. The amazing thing about Essie is that they have such a vast collection of various shades. You’ll find the shade you want - I can guarantee that for sure! I think it’s super easy to apply because the nail polish consistency isn’t too watery and it gives you the perfect consistency from bottle to nail. I’ve come across nail polished that are so watery they fall off the brush before I make it to my nail. It’s definitely not a sheer color and the color pay off is 100% amazing. It also has a shiny glossy finish to it where you could leave it just like that or use a top coat for extra shine. The brush is perfect in that additionally it does not leave streaks on the nail. When I apply a top coat on all 10 fingers, I go back and apply a second coat. I wait 10 mins and apply a third coat for extra coverage! And then 15 mins after that I apply a clear shiny top coat! I’m usually not in a hurry so I take my time to let them dry and haven’t done those neat ice cold water tricks! When I do my nails I watch an hour long show on my iPad and by the time the show is done so are my nails 👏🏼. Essie claims that this is a chip resistant formula and for the most part like 90% I agree with that statement. I usually find one or two nails with chips on them but it’s also the fingers I use for opening mail, picking off stickers, etc so I don’t blame the nail polish - it’s me hahaha! When I apply the nail polish I say it can last from 7-10 days before I see it looking off and no longer perfect! Since I am home now all the time I find myself constantly changing my nail color after 10 days and this shade is among my top three nail polish colors! This is a top notch nail polish color and I 100% recommend it to all of my friends and family! 👍🏼

Nail Polish 101 - Perfect Nails at Home 💅🏼
Nail Polish 101 - Perfect Nails at Home 💅🏼
Are you stuck at home? Are you missing the nail salon experience? Well look no further because today I’m going to tell you my tips and secrets on how to achieve the perfect nail look at home! 👍🏼 My first step is always to shape my nails! I like to go for a square slash squared oval nail shape using a nail file and nail clippers. I must be one a few gals who actually does not like super long nails, so I tend to keep them on the short to medium length. For this tip, any nail file and clipper will do the job. No need for a super expensive tool! Next, make sure to have a nail color and top coat ready. In this case I’m using a essie - essie Enamel Nail Polish in shade Mint Candy Apple ( I gave a full review on this specific nail polish) and Sally Hansen - Miracle Gel Top Coat . I know some people do not like to mix brands but this Sally Hansen top coat is a winner in my book. Pro tip! Do not ANY shake the nail polish bottle, instead roll the nail polish bottle between your hands! When you shake a bottle it can lead to the creation of tiny air pockets, which will then lead to air bubbles - a big no no! Once I have my nail shape and colors ready, I start with the first coat on all nails. Once I finished the first coat, I wait a minute and then go for a second coat. Afterwards I wait 5-10 mins before applying a third coat! This way I ensure the color is solid and there are not any sheer spots on my nails. Finally, 15 mins after the last coat of your nail polish I go in with the top coat. This particular top coat is thick and shiny! I like coating my nails with just one coat of this polish. One coat is more than enough since it is super shiny and thick enough to product the freshly added nail polish color. Once everything is set in place, sit back and relax! Give your nails the proper amount of time to dry on their own. Unless you have a hack to speed up the process (let me know if you do 👀)! I love that this look gives you a classic clean nail look! I rave about Essie nail colors but at the end of the day any favorite color of yours will do the trick! There is something about having your nails done that makes you feel more confident and ready to conquer the day! In my pictures, you can see the tools and products I used to create my look! The second picture is my fresh shaped clean nails, the third picture is after one coat of nail polish, and the fourth picture of the grid is two coats! The second picture is my nails with three coats of nail polish and one layer of top coat! When I paint my nails and follow this process they tend to last anywhere from 7-10 days with minimal chipping. I love that the three coats ensure my nail color is thick enough to battle all of my weekly activities! Remember these products, steps, and tips are all authentically recommend by me and it’s the process I follow! I hope you all enjoy it and try it out for yourself too! 🙂
