Overnight Waves Tutorial
I am allllll about overnight hair styles. Gone are the days where I regularly use heat tools to style my hair. Every once in a while I’ll do it, but for everyday I can’t be bothered! Heatless styles are also great for reducing heat damage and breakage. This is a tutorial for my preferred overnight waves using two twists. This style works best for wavy and straight hair types. About my hair: thick, naturally wavy/curly, frizzy, dry What you’ll need: -comb -small elastic bands -leave-in spray -styling cream/gel/mousse -finishing spray/hairspray Steps: 1. Start with damp hair. 2. Apply leave-in conditioner and disperse through your hair with a comb or fingers. 3. Apply your preferred styling product(s). This will help your hair hold the style’s shape. 4. Either air dry your hair or wrap in a towel for about 15-30 min (less if your hair is fine, more if your hair is thick. I do about 30 min) 5. Take hair out of towel (if using) and comb it. 6. Part hair in desired area in front and part about equally down the back. 7. Work with one side at a time. Take a small section of hair at the front of your head, and another section from the back of your head. 8. Twist the pieces together like a rope braid. I start just above my ears. 9. Add in a section of hair from the front and from the back to continue the twist. 10. Continue adding hair and twisting down. Secure with an elastic. 11. Repeat on other side. 12. Go to bed! Let this style sit for 8-10 hours. The longer the better, especially if you have thick hair. 13. In the AM, remove your twists and gently shake your hair near the roots to loosen waves. 14. Spray hair with your preferred finishing spray/hairspray. Products I used: KRISTIN ESS - Ultra Hydrating Curl Leave-In Cream KRISTIN ESS - Hair Hydrating Curl Defining Crème R+Co - FOIL Frizz + Static Control Spray Notes: You can twist your twists around each other into buns or clip them on top of your head if the twists will bother you when you’re sleeping! You can modify this style by starting father or lower on your head, or doing two 3-strand braids. #CheriePartner
Refresh second-day curls: 4 steps⭐Without heat!
As a member of curly girls, I know how annoying it can be to wake up with frizzy and generally out of whack curls. Stylish curls look fantastic but not comfortable to hold without some tips. Luckily, I've searched a lot and finally built my reviving curls routine, which works amazingly for me. Using a spray bottle or a refreshing hair mist. Fill a spray bottle with water and spray it liberally all over my hair. Sometimes I also use a refreshing hair mist instead to hydrate my hair. I'm obsessed with OUAI Hair and body shine mist.OUAI - Hair & Body Shine Mist Using a hair styling product. Rub a hair styling product in between my hands, then run my hands over the curls. I love KRISTIN ESS Hydrating Curl Defining Crème, which is super moisturizing without leaving my hair oily.KRISTIN ESS - Hair Hydrating Curl Defining Crème Using a hair gel. Take a small quantity of hair gel and smooth it on my hair, helping to defrizz my messy curls. SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Gel Souffle is my favorite. It is rich in nourishing ingredients like coconut oil, baobab, agave nectar, and flaxseed oil, hydrating and strengthening my strands. How I “Plop”/Air Dry My Wavy/Curly Hair w/ pics!
Do you have naturally curly or wavy hair? What about cults/waves that you've been taming with heat tools for years? Want to improve your curl/wave pattern over time? This is for you! About my hair: thick, long, some layers, curly/wavy,dry What you'll need: •100% cotton t-shirt •Leave-in conditioner •Curl cream, gel, mousse, etc (whatever you prefer) •Patience, because this takes a while! I've included a numbered pictorial so you can follow along, but please note that each numerical label isn't necessarily its own step. Some are just additional angles. This method is part of the “curl girl” method and is called “plopping ". "Plopping" with cotton gently removes moisture while reducing frizz and helping natural patterns look more defined. Steps: 1. Start with freshly washed hair. Squeeze your hair with your towel a few times until it's no longer dripping wet. No more towel after this. 2. Scrunch hair with your cotton t-shirt for about 15-20 seconds. 3. Use your fingers to apply a leave-in conditioner, or if your leave-in is a spray, just spray it and finger comb through. 4. Scrunch hair with t-shirt again. Your hair should no longer be super wet. 5. Apply your preferred curl or wave product and make sure to disperse throughout your hair starting with your ends. 6. Use your hands to scrunch. Flip head upside down and continue to scrunch. 7. Lay your t-shirt on a flat, clean surface (I use my bed). The neck should face towards you. 8. Gather all of your hair with your head up aside down as if making a ponytail and place in the center of the t-shirt. 9. Fold the bottom portion of the t-shirt onto itself, then take that folded section up over your hair towards your neck. Your forehead should be touching the neck of the t-shirt. 10. Use 1 hand to hold the shirt in place while taking each sleeve and tying them together. You will need to switch your hands during this step. The tie should sit low on your head. 11. Leave hair in shirt 20-30 min (depending on hair thickness). 12. Take hair out of shirt, flip over, part with fingers or comb (if desired, but don't comb anything else!!), and air dry. My hair takes about 3-4 hours to fully dry post-"plop". If you want to use a hair oil, use it before wrapping your hair. Products I used: KRISTIN ESS - Ultra Hydrating Curl Leave-In Cream and IGK - Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel . There are good YouTube videos out there to learn more if you are wanting to learn more about this method!
Attention all my wavy ladies!! 🌊💓
Inspired by all the curly girl videos on TikTok, I have become determined to perfect my hair routine! I bought this product to try after a leave-in conditioner and before a gel. I ended up hating the gel, but I really like this product! I have 2B hair, and I find this product to help hold the curl while also being lightweight. It also left my hair feeling soft and smells amazing! For $8, I definitely recommend this if you are trying to perfect your curly girl routine.

Great product, but I’d like more hold
So to be technical, I have 2B type curls. And by curls, I’d probably say waves. I’ve struggled a lot with getting my hair back on track after straightening it most of my life (and yes I know my hair is dyed and that can be damaging). I also never wanted to accept the fact that my hair was JUST wavy. I want beautiful curls! But alas, these are things we cannot choose so I started to just accept my hair for what it is. THAT BEING SAID! This product is fantastic in the sense that it does not weigh down my waves. As you can see, some of my hair does in fact curl, but for the most part it’s just wavy. I tried Miss Jessie’s on a whim because I saw that there was a cream targeted for wavy hair! I usually buy things for curls which leads to my hair being weighed down so it doesn’t curl, or I try a gel and my hair just gets a cast that even after breaking, just makes my hair feel icky. But I really likes using Quick Curls. I would like to try other Miss Jessie’s products to see if maybe I can get a bit more of a hold but overall, I’m happy with my purchase!Miss Jessie's - Quick Curls To anyone out there with my hair type or even just great knowledge on curls, let me hear your suggestions!

OUAI - OUAI Wave Spray For someone with naturally straight hair, this product really appealed to me. Ouai wave spray is a mist to provide texture to your hair and is infused with rice protein. This product is supposed to: create beach waves, enhance texture & build body, and give hair memory and shine 🚫It’s paraben & sulfate free ✔️What I like: it does provide a nice texture to give that beachy look. I added this to my dry hair which I had let air dry in a braid. I sprayed the product onto my hand and added it to my hair to give it a “piecey” look. I didn’t want to spray directly into my hair because I like to make sure product is evenly distributed. ✖️What I didn’t like: The smell. It smells very strong and floral, which is not ideal if you’re sensitive to scents. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ I think this product could also be great to add to your roots to give some extra volume :) This can be applied to damp or dry hair. This is the 50mL bottle which is $16 CAD at Sephora. It also comes in $148 mL for $34 CAD.

Caring for my wavy hair 💗
Not too long ago, I really didn’t know that I had wavy hair. Like many people I had spent years brushing it and straightening it and not giving it a second thought. Finally, my laziness got the best of me and I decided to stop heat-styling my hair. I think the first step of caring for wavy hair is finding the right stylist. Around the time I decided to stop heat styling my hair I went to a new hair stylist who absolutely transformed my hair. He cut in long layers and took out a lot of the bulk in my hair, and I really think these two things were key to getting my waves to hold up. Having more layers definitely helps enhance the waves and keeps them from falling out. So here is my current styling routine! Wash and condition hair: honestly I am not super picky at all about what shampoo or conditioner I use, but I try to get ones that have less sulfates and silicones in them. If anyone has any great recs for shampoo/conditioner for wavy hair, feel free to drop them below!! Post-shower: I know the Curly Girl Method has you apply your products when your hair is still soaking wet, but I can’t stand standing there, freezing cold with my hair dripping everywhere. So I wrap my hair loosely in a t-shirt as soon as I get out of the shower while I dry off and apply my skincare. Then once I am dressed, I take my hair down and apply my products. Leave-in conditioner: I have talked about this before, but this is the most amazing leave-in conditioner I’ve ever used. sexyhair - Healthy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner Smells amazing and leaves my waves so amazingly soft. I apply this all over my midshaft-ends and lightly rub it in. Wave spray: Again, I’ve talked about this product before but it is seriously my holy grail hair product. OUAI - OUAI Wave Spray I spray this all over my head, seriously you cannot use too much of this stuff. (Side note: I don’t recommend spraying this on dry hair because it can get sticky, but if your hair is wet you are 100% good to go.) Once I have applied this, I flip my head upside down and SCRUNCH. Depending on what I’m doing, sometimes I will plop my hair with the towel again just to keep the wet hair off my shoulders, otherwise I just let it air dry. And voila! I love being at a place where I really just love how my hair looks daily, and I never have to spend more than 10 minutes styling it!

Amika is such a cool company. Their price point is low, so it’s accessible to everyone. They are paraben, sulfate, gluten, phthalate, mineral oil and petroleum free. I love their shampoos and conditioners. This balm is, well, the bomb. It is heavy enough to calm unruly hair, but isn’t greasy, oily or sticky. It works great as a blow dry lotion, or a finishing cream. I have used it on my wavy hair to air dry on days that I want my curls a bit looser. I would use it on short hairstyles for people who don’t want much hold but need a bit of control so their hair doesn’t flyaway or frizz. I don’t live in a humid climate but this would be great to use in humidity to calm the hair. I know I turn into a poodle whenever I go somewhere humid and this would be perfect to help with that. I also love Amika’s curl cream amika: - Curl Corps Defining Cream and use that if I want my curls to have a little more oomph! Amika you so fine! #cheriecreator
