New to skincare and looking for suggestions
Hi all. I'm relatively new to this whole properly taking care of my skin thing. I have combination skin, uneven skin tone, large pores and redness/discolouration. I've recently incorporated these products: Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Gel-Creami think i'm going to switch this out to the regular skin, as i'm finding it really makes my face oily. I do, however, need the moisturizer mostly around/on my nose. Or for when my pimples dry out. C&C by Clean & Clear - Persa-Gel 10, Maximum Strengthuse this mostly as a spot treatment. It dries my skin out a little bit, but i find it really helps flatten my pimples pretty quickly. I've only been using this product for a few days. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%literally just started using this today. As you can tell, i have MASSIVE pores. I have for as long as i can remember. Lately, it's really bothering me that my makeup sinks into my pores. I got a new pore primer today though and, so far, I'm impressed! Neutrogena - Pore Refining Cleanseronly been using this one for a few days. So far i'm pretty happy with it! Feels great on my skin and the scrub has been helping remove dry skin. I have also started using a salicylic acid acne treatment, for Clean & Clear. It's supposed to help remove blackheads. I have always been very nervous to use toners as I had bad luck with the Pro Activ system as a teen. This dries my skin out a bit, but i do find it helps reduce the oiliness throughout the day, especially at work when I have a full face of makeup on. I'm trying to give my skin as much of a break as possible when I'm not at work. I wake up really oily no matter what, but I'm wondering if this is just a regular thing for people? I hate it lmao I'm extremely self concious about my skin. I hate it and I have since i first got acne at age 10. It was so bad, I'm pretty sure my pores are also so big because they're probably partially acne scars. Any suggestions would be great!! I find my skin is a little sensitive, but i'm quickly getting used to the burning of the toner lol Thanks in advance :)

Georgina.Bhi. I strongly recommend you stop using Clean & Clear. I tried its cleanser and the foam even feels very dry on skin before its applied and just made my skin red and sore. It's much too harsh and left my skin feeling dry and tight and extremely uncomfortable immediately after rinsing it out with water. You should try a gentle cleanser without alcohol.

So I haven’t been on here in a little while because I’ve been trying to take a break on taking photos of my face and looking at skincare social media because it’s really compromised my mental health and I’m a lot less stressed about it when I’m not constantly focused on it if that makes sense :) Anyways WHOLE NEW ROUTINE last time I checked in I had mentioned I switched to differin, I’m not too sure if that helped me, I did purge a lot. But skin has healed so much faster since stopping differin I finally got to visit the derm and she told me to go back on tretinoin 0.025% to use every night, and she also prescribed me with the clindamycin topical solution 1% to use once every morning. She also advised me to go back on birth control. At first I was not fond of that because birth control AKA I.U.D HELL brought this acne upon me in the first place. But she recommended it to get my hormones back in check, but she also stated she wasn’t comfortable prescribing me spirlactone (which is what I was aiming for) without using BC even though I stated to her I am not sexually active currently and I don’t plan to be for a very long time. Anyways, I made an appointment with my obgyn and got on birth control pills, if you are curious to which one it’s called “Drospirenone” I haven’t started them yet because she told me to wait until the first Sunday during my period. But I have been consistently using the tret and the clindamycin every day for only a week and a half so far and I’ve already seen a lot of improvement. I don’t want to get too excited because I this is what happened the first time with tret, it was great the first week or two and then my skin started to purge. I’ve now been through the purging process 3 times. And it’s gonna be torture to go through it again but if it happens then it happens 🙏 Super nervous to start the birth control for the same reason but I can only be positive and hope for the best! My full routine currently is AM VANICREAM - Gentle Facial Cleanser clindamycin topical solution 1% (derm prescribed) LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV SPF 30 *im switching to a higher spf PM VANICREAM - Gentle Facial Cleanser Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Gel-Cream (the extra dry unscented version) OBAGI - Tretinoin 0.025% Cream(derm prescribed) And sometimes I like to put another thin layer of moisturizer on top once the tret is absorbed to prevent irritation and dryness
a skincare drugstore haul
I knew going at the drugstore this afternoon that I needed to get a new serum and night cream ,since I emptied both quite a while ago. I usually order online but I didn't plan well this time and my need is quite in need of hydration. Even though I stay at home a lot (full time university student with all classes online ✋🏻),Canadian winter is quite rough and I tend to get quite on the dry side ,even though I consider myself more of a combo-sensituve skin kind of girl. I was always interested in the Hydro boast line from Neutrogena ,yet never tried it. I heard quite good things about it ,by influencers and people here on Cherie so I picked up the Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Hydrating Serumwith hyaluronic acid and the Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Gel-Creamfor dry skin (this one said that it had no fragrance and the regular one didn't say so I didn't take the chance ) I will begin trying them tonight to see how how they feel and will update you on if they are a hit or a miss for me 🙂 Tourlou 🪐

Why does my skin react different night vs day?
Over the years I have gone through hundreds of products figuring out what works for me. I have finally found a good set of products that I love, but sometimes when I use certain products in the daytime (such as Bio-Oil - Multiuse Skincare Oil and certain facemasks, I breakout so much worse than I do when I use the same exact product at night! I am confused by this so I have been wondering if it’s related to my oil levels throughout the day or what? Should I be using more drying products in the day time and hydrating at night? The only ones that really work for me day and night are The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and THE BODY SHOP - Jumbo Tea Tree Oil although I know Hyram has said oils are not for the face
getting off makeup and clear skin with rosacea!
okay... so I know I've posted this before, and Cherie is (devastatingly) closing down, but I thought I'd share one last post. This really works. one is a prescription and there are a couple items missing, so I'll add them to the pictures. Here is the order they say to put on skincare (as depicted) 1) makeup remover/wash (I use Queen Helene cold cream that I SWEAR by, sometimes BURT’S BEES - BURT‘S BEES Sensitive Facial Cleanser ) 2) Facewash/second face wash (I use DERMA•E - Sensitive Skin Cleanser and Joeseph anti Acne soap 10% sulfur) 3) Toner (I use THAYERS - Rose Petal Facial Toner ) 4) Serums (I use a few... my prescription Amzeeq, mostly The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% , and DERMA•E - Blue Light Shield Concentrated Serum ) 5) Spot Treatments (Murad - Invisiscar Resurfacing Treatment , tea tree oil when needed) 6) Eye Cream (not pictured - DERMA•E - Firming DMAE Eye Lift Cream ) 7) Moisturizer (2 different kinds depending on how dry I am- pictured: Alba Botanica Aloe Green tea moisturizer, not pictured: skinfix - Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream ) 8) Retinol: Now, because I have rosacea, I use a retinol alternative. The best one for sensitive skin I found is The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion use at night only) 9) Face Oil: HEAR ME OUT: If you have oily skin, it's not the WORST thing to use an oil. As a matter of fact, it may work well. BEST ONE BY FAR IS ROSEHIP OIL. I can't tell you how amazing it is The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil , and JOSIE MARAN - Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment during the day) wear sunscreen during the day, and put it in place of retinol. I use Glossier. - Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen it's a great light moisturizer, too. And at night in the winter if it's super dry, I'll put petroleum jelly around the corners of my eyes and lips. The results don't lie, Cherie babes (: comment below I'd you know of a better eye cream.
The products that saved my skin ✨
I’ve always had clear skin growing up, but during the quarantine period (March-April) my skin had gotten REALLY bad and I couldn’t figure out why. After doing some research, I decided to strip down my routine to just a cleanser, acne treatment, moisturizer and sunscreen before re-adding serums. My skin is recovering well and I am so happy with the progress! COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser This cleanser is AMAZING. It smells a bit like tea tree oil but it is so gentle on the skin. My face is now SO SOFT! It’s a little pricey, but I only use a pea sized amount each time so it lasts quite a while. I will be a long time customer. C&C by Clean & Clear - Persa-Gel 10, Maximum Strength This benzoyl peroxide product was a life saver. I actually used the Persa-Gel 5, not 10; HOWEVER, I have read sources that say that 5% BP is just as effective as 10% and not as drying. I would apply this nightly, and I could notice a difference in just a few days. This stuff is strong and IT WORKS. I only use it as a spot treatment now when I see the beginning of new pimples, and I haven’t had any full ones form since using this product. CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion I found that it was too light for night time, but it’s a great light, no-fuss daily moisturizer that quickly absorbs and did not irritate my skin. Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Sunscreen SPF 50 For ~$15 this one is decent! It’s a water gel sunscreen, so it does make me look a little greasy at first but my skin feels hydrated. It might not be the best for those with suuuper sensitive skin, but it works for me for now. The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG This is a staple! I’ve been using it for about a year and I am totally happy going out without under-eye concealer. PHYSICIANS FORMULA - 24-Karat Gold Collagen Eye Cream I layer this on top of the Caffeine solution; it’s okay, there are probably better creams out there. The gold flecks are pretty cute though! COSRX - AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner Another okay product, this keeps my skin soft and smooth but not sure it does much in terms of clarifying. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Doesn’t minimize the look of my pores like I had hoped but it does help a lot with the oiliness in my T-zone! The Ordinary - Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% I use this once a week — my dark spots do seem to be fading quickly but BEWARE! This product is very potent and stings a bit upon application. The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA A good chemical exfoliant! It is gentle, yet effective. I use it twice a week. The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil I use it nightly and I wake up with radiant, plump skin. Seems to help with pigmentation as well!
Morning Routine! ✨
Hello Cherie 👋🏻 Figured my first post would be best as a morning routine post! I like to keep products at a minimum since I’ve found, through trial & error, that less is definitelyyyy more. 1. First, I wash my face with cold water No cleanser here; I think I do well enough with cleansing at night & find it dries out my ~already dry~ skin if I were to cleanse twice a day. 2. Clean&Clear Persa-gel 10 I’ve been using this for quite some time now on my cheeks & around my mouth to help with fighting acne. I think (🤷🏻♀️) it works ??¿¿ I mean, no acne soooo (🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️) 3. Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer with SPF 50 for Sensitive Skin I JUST switched to this moisturizer as I had been using the chemical based version and since the switch I’ve been experiencing EXTREMELY dry skin. Don’t know if it’s the drastic change to hot weather or the switch from chemical to mineral based formula. Let me know what you think!
Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser
Neutrogena - Pore Refining Cleanser I normally don’t like neutrogena products merely because they have never done anything for my skin, but this product is one of my all time favorite cleansers. It claims to refine pores and take away dead skin to reveal a bright clear complexion. I feel like for me it does just that. It’s texture is a liquid soft exfoliating cleanser, which is a lot softer and more gentle on my Skin than most exfoliators I’ve found. I use to think all exfoliators had to be super hard and almost feel like sand paper but that actually worse for your skin and causes many scratches on the surface of the skin. This cleanser is gentle yet still very effective and I love that. I only use this about twice a week when I’m feeling my pores showing and my skin becoming dull. This helps keep my skin clear and fresh and my pores unclogged. It’s only about 10 dollars at drug stores so it’s a great item to save money on instead of spending upwards of 50 dollars on another cleansing exfoliator. I would recommend this to anyone! I really like this product and like I said before I don’t really like neatrogena or drug store products.
Needing some advice on which products I should use for dark spots and minmizing pores! I have oily and acne prone skin My current routine is... CeraVe - Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skin THAYERS - Rose Petal Facial Mist Curology - Curology formula Curology - The Moisturizer The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% pixi - Vitamin-C Serum (only use once in a while) ORIGINS - Super Spot Remover Acne Treatment Gel (only when needed) please help😊😊
Blemishes + Dry Skin
Hi! My main concerns are blemishes and dark spots, I have very dry skin so my breakouts are worse in the winter. I have large pores and I usually get pimples on my cheeks and forehead. I noticed that my forehead is also drier and my chin is darker than the rest of my face. Right now, my skincare routine only consists of cleanser, moisturizer, and micellar water. I only wash my face once a day (at night) since it gets flaky when I wash it twice, I use the Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser which is effective for my skin. In the morning, I only use the Garnier Rose Micellar Water. I am looking for an alternative to my Pond’s dry skin cream since it’s oily and clogs my face. I am also thinking of trying The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc and The Ordinary Squalane Oil. Any thoughts? Thanks!!
The Ordinary-100% Plant-Derived Squalane
Hello! This is my first post and I’m extrémalo excited to join this community and share what has worked for me. In these pictures there is about a 2 months difference but my skin has been this clear for about a month so I’m order to see my results it took around a month. 😊 I’d be lying if i said that I accomplished this with just skincare products because what made the real change was Accutane. Yet, a good skincare routine helps a lot! And is what I’ve been doing to keep my skin this way. I use CeraVe - Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser and I love it! I exfoliate with the DIOR - Hydra Life Time to Glow Ultra Fine Exfoliating Powder which I really like(it was gifted)! Next what I do is use the The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% which has helped my little hyperpigmentation. I also use the DIOR - Hydra Life Deep Hydration Sorbet Water Essence (gifted) I love it because it makes my skin feel plump and hydrated! After I use the YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream which is great at night! And to finish it off I use TULA SKINCARE - Acne Spot Treatment

Updated Oily skin care routine!!!🌞🌞
*TUTORIAL ON MY INSTA (user in bio)** I have changed my routine due to many reasons But the main reason is I thought I had oily skin. Turns out I do but my skin type is actually more normal then oily. I went and got a facial recently and my lady had asked me about all the products I was using... when I told her I was shocked to know that everything I was doing was all wrong for my skin! I was in fact actually drying out my skin and doing everything in the wrong order. Aswell as putting way too many acids and chemicals on my skin at once that there was no way for it to react naturally to that. To start off I wash my face with the sa smoothing cleanser from cerave every other night, and I switch off with the cervave hydrating cleanser/ or foaming cleanser. I will switch off with those two based on whether I’m feeling more greasy that night or not. I also use the 60 second rule. I will wash my face and gently scrub in small circles for 60 seconds then rinse with colder water which is better for your pores. Once my face is washed I go in with the niacinamide and hyaluronic acid from the ordinary. I mix them together in my palm and gently pat them into my skin These two serums are really good and have helped my skin a lot within the past 2 weeks! Also a psa, when putting on these serums you will have better results if you keep your face damp. The hyaluronic acid is a water based product that pretty much needs water to help lock it into your face. After that I go in with a vibrating face roller to de puff and really sink all that product into my pores . FINISHING TOUCH FLAWLESS - Flawless Contour I got this one for a very low price and it’s always cold and feels amazing on my face. After I use it I check to see the before and after of my de-puffing process . For my last two steps I use the dermalogica retinol clearing oil, this product is my new holy grail bc every night I put it on I wake up feeling clean and have results of much lighter acne scars or dark spots. I also use the cerave skin renewing night cream inehich contains healing ceramides and acids that leave you waking up smooth and hydrated!!
CeraVe-Eye Repair Cream
Best Acne Nighttime Treatment (non-fungal)
Okay so I’ve posted results of my use of Differin Gel & now I’m going to post my usual routine. (When I’m not wearing makeup). My skin is so weird now since I started using Differin Gel (I went from extreme oily to more combo/oily). Step 1 cleanser CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser I use this when my skin is dry from the day. If I used a mask earlier or a scrub this usually happens. I also like this because I find that adding that extra moisture is important to prep for the Differin gel -or- LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin I use this of my skin is extra oily from the day. It’s for oily sensitive skin . Sometimes when I go outside with my heavier sunscreen it leaves that annoying oily feel at the end of the day (especially in my t-zone). This cleanser is amazing. I bought the travel size because it was first time trying it but I’ll definitely get the biggest size when I run out! Step 2- I left out my toner because I threw away my Kiehl's - Cucumber Herbal Alcohol-Free Toner after doing more research into the ingredients & ordered my regular toners I used to use. Step 3 Treat: Serum: The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% this is great for my pores and acne breakout I already have. I know it’s totes for oil control to, but I use it all over my face. *Actives* DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel this is my HG acne treatment. I’ve been using religiously it & now I need to buy a new! (I have a lost how to apply correctly). BURT’S BEES - Natural Acne Solutions Maximum Strength Spot Treatment Cream **NEVER USE THIS THE SAME NIGHT AS DIFFERIN GEL!** I use this if I get a really bad spot that I want gone by the morning. It’s the highest concentration of salicylic acid you can get over the counter & it has willow bark (a great pair for salicylic acid). I love a majority of Burt’s bees products due to the high natural ingredients. BURT’S BEES - Renewal Smoothing Eye Cream I did a previous post about using this & how its a effective retinol alternative. I have sensitive under eyes and don’t like to put too many harsh ingredients. This works great for my fine lines. Step 4 moisturize: CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion I love this moisturizer. It’s not too heavy but just enough ingredients to be effective. It has that extra added niacinamide I need fr my pores & it doesn’t clog my pores at all! WELEDA - Skin Food Original Ultra-Rich Cream I only use this if my skin is extra dry. This will replace my CeraVe (don’t want too much moisture). A little of this goes a long way! I use like two pea-size dots and it covers my entire face dr. brandt - Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask after my moisturizer. I love how this replenishes my moisture. I use this mask 2 times a week.

The #mascne is real, y’all
Sorry my posts have been so infrequent here lately, I have been stressed to the max taking state exams to make sure I have a job this fall! It’s been wild and I’ve had to be in a mask quite a bit taking those long tests at the testing center! I haven’t broke out in forever but all of a sudden I’m covered in bumps and realize it’s from being out more and having to use a mask. I wanted to show you guys that this happens to everyone! Even if your skin isn’t acneic, turns out it doesn’t like being in a hot humid mask for hours on end. I’m using a combo of Niacinamide, zit stickers, and barrier cream to fight this BUT I wanted to show you guys how normal it is. I will take a couple of uncomfortable pimples over putting myself or others in danger! alba BOTANICA - Acne Pimple Patch LA ROCHE-POSAY - Cicaplast Baume B5 for Dry Skin Irritations The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
