New silicone cleaning mat
In April, I did a l post about ecoTOOLS - Makeup Brush Cleansing Shampoo and a silicone hand mat. It wasn’t bad, but the surface wasn’t big enough for me and the number of brushes I have. I finally realized that I needed something that could rest in my sink and was big enough for me to wash multiple brushes at once. So I went on Amazon on Prime Day and saw the #Ranphykx - Silicon Makeup Brush Cleaning Mat[products]#[FourStars] in green (teal) that has 2,536 reviews and sits at a pretty 4.5 out of 5 rating for only $4.98. It also comes in pink and purple for $6.98. I like that it has suction cups on the back to keep it in the sink. This is a great dupe for the SIGMA - Spa Express Brush Cleaning Mat, which is about $27. NOTE: I am constantly looking for things to make my brush hygiene better and what I have found is washing my brushes more frequently and not waiting for them to pile up.

Is this salicylic acid mask aces?
I recently bought the The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque because the The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Solutionis consistently out of stock. Kind of annoying, but then I saw the mask that seemed like it was the same. And while the solution is $5.30 and the mask is $12, time wasn’t on its side. I don’t use it as an all-over mask because I think that would be too much. It is a perfect spot treatment for when I have acne. It has an unusual texture. If I had to describe it would be as if charcoal powder, aloe gel and a peel-off mask were all mixed together. When I get a pimple, I use this as an overnight spot mask. It is good to note that the solution is also supposed to used as a spot treatment. Contains: • 2% salicylic acid, • vegetable charcoal • Amazonian clays • squalane

When in doubt, stamp out. 💅🏾
This weekend, three of my friends and I decided to get together, pamper ourselves and finally watch “Harriet.” This was a plan we made before the pandemic was even a thing, but life kept getting in the way. We have all been really safe. (Please don’t think we haven’t been cautious. I rarely leave my apartment. I have worked from home for 3 years now, have food delivered, and I still stream my church service on Sundays.) We all brought our nail stuff over to our fourth friend’s casa and she supplied our skin care masks. After turning on “U.S. Marshals” because the universe continued to conspire against us, we did our face masks first, then started on our nails. I came up with the idea that we would each do each other’s nails and pick the design. My friend selected a purple-to-white gradient with a floral stamp and got to work sponging the polishes on my nails. (She used Maniology for the white and light purple and Zoya for the dark purple.) It was her first time and now we know some things that we would do differently. (More on that later.) WHAT YOU NEED • Cosmetic makeup wedges • 3-4 colors to do a gradient • Liquid latex • Products for stamping (I did a post about this before.) • Topcoat of your choice (Inspo picture was matte, but I went with glossy) WHAT SHE DID She went lightest to darkest and sponged it on my nails. What I think the main issue was is that she didn’t reapply the nail polish to the sponge frequently enough. That would lead to the nail polish on some nails looking more sheer because it was used up. (Hence the two accent nails in ILNP BOUTIQUE COSMETICS - Holographic Nail Polish in Soft Focus.) It would also lead to some polish on the nails being more textured. The uneven surface led to the stamped image not transferring onto my nail — even after applying a topcoat to level it out. Since it was getting late, I left without my nails being stamped. I was able to easily able to stamp over it in the morning. 🤷🏾♀️ I sent my friend a picture of the completed look and we both like it.

Am I confident with this cleanser?
As a person, I try not to support it cosmetics because I am not going to give money to a company that has shown that they don’t care about me or people who look like me. But I must have bumped my head because I got a three-piece set that included the it Cosmetics - Secret Sauce Anti-Aging Moisturizerand it Cosmetics - Miracle Water Micellar Cleanserand this post’s featured item, it Cosmetics - Confidence in a Cleanser . One product saved my skin after I left the DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial Maskfor ... an hour while working and one product was just fancy water. (I plan on doing a storytime about my Babyfacial mishap.) then there was the cleanser, which I literally started using about ... 3 weeks ago. ABOUT THIS PRODUCT This two-in-one serum cleanser was formulated with plastic surgeons for normal, oil, combination, dry and sensitive skin types. It comes in two sizes: 1.7 oz. for $12.50 and 5 oz. for $28. You are supposed to apply it onto all wet skin and work in for about 30 seconds. KEY INGREDIENTS • Anti-Aging Armour Rejuvenating Concentrate™ • Anti-aging collagen 😒 • Hyaluronic acid • Colloidal oatmeal • A super ceramide complex MY EXPERIENCE I started using this cleanser because I had just finished my go-to cleanser, ORIGINS - Checks and Balances Frothy Face Washand I wanted to use up a few of my smaller ones before going for a larger one. Enter Confidence in a Cleanser. I didn’t like this cleanser. Maybe it is because it was formulated to be a universally used cleanser, but I feel like this is kind of a nothing cleanser. It doesn’t directly hurt my skin, but I don’t see any benefits either. Actually, I had a larger than normal hormonal breakout than in normally do while using this cleanser. (This cleanser while also trying to finish the DRUNK ELEPHANT - Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser. So that could also be the culprit.) My skin was clean, but it didn’t feel how I wanted it to feel. It can take a bit to work into a lather, which can be annoying. If you have used this product, then you know. Recommend? No.

DIY bathroom counter renovation
I have hated my bathroom counter for the last five years. It is this atrocious brown speckled color that looks terrible in photos and — more importantly — real life. To pour more salt in the wound, my apartment complex used the same countertops in the kitchen. A few months ago, I ordered two contact papers to give myself a background for product photos: A glossy, black marble one and a matte, white marble one. Ideal for photos when your apartment countertops aren’t aesthetically pleasing to say the least. Then I realized that I had just assumed my complex would be against me adding an overlay to the bathroom counter. I WAS A FOOL. I called and a leasing agent told me to go for it. Not only that, he asked me to send photos of the contact paper I had chosen because he was just excited as me. I sent him the photos and he said, “Wow I love it! ... As long as it is removable when you move out, the design is completely up to you! I know It will look great! 😊” (A great thing to have in writing. 😉) With that approval, I got on Amazon and got to planning and purchasing. What I purchased for this project: • #Arthome Wall Decor - Arthome Marble Paper,17x100 inch Self Adhesive Wallpaper Waterproof Gloss PVC Vinyl[products]#: $9.98 • #kaileyouxiangongsi - Plastic/Metal Freestanding Stackable Organizer Shelf[products]#: $25.99 I cleaned the counter off, scrubbed it clean, wipe down with rubbing alcohol and started watching YouTube videos. (You can never be too prepared, right?) What you need: Rubbing alcohol Contact paper Card (I used a drugstore membership card to remove bubbles as I applied the sticky side down.) X-Acto knife or something of its like. How to apply: I found it better to apply the contact paper from the back to the front and using the card to remove bubbles while removing the backing. The hardest part was doing it around the sink. I think your best bet would be to lay the paper (sticky side still on) and use your X-Acto knife to cut around the sink. Total cost: $35.97, not including taxes What do you think?
I got an Essie mystery box from Amazon
One habit I picked up during quarantine was doing my nails. I got to the point where I was doing my nails almost every other day. (Not the best way to ensure continued nail health and growth.) Recently, I was on Amazon and stumbled up an Essie nail polish deal: 10 random nail polish colors. Not repeats. All for about $29 — not including taxes or shipping. OK. Intrigued. So I placed the order on July 16 and I received my polishes by the 21st. Not bad. I tore into the package and to my surprise I was given 12 polish instead of the essie - Nail Polish Set of 10 Random, All Different Colors No Repeats I was expecting. Unfortunately, there were three shades that were repeated: Da Bush, Playa Del Platinum and Lady Godiva. And even with the two extra shades, that would still result in at least one repeated shade. Point docked. I like most of the colors, but the consistency paired with the brush can leave a streaky initial coat. I may buy the Zola brush heads and see if that helps. (Shown in the last photo.) WORTH IT? If you want to be adventurous and try new colors, then yes. I also gave the three duplicated shades to friends so that was an added bonus.

Which Sunscreen is better for Oily skin type?
Being a girl with skin of color, I often worry about getting frequent hyperpigmentation and dark spots. I'm Indian, brown, which leads to the importance of sunscreen in my life more than anything! I had Active Hormonal Acne for several years. That caused me stubborn dark spots on my cheeks and I feel I'm still fighting with them after years. I am on my skincare journey to get rid of my hormonal acne but what's more important for me is the PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation). I can say Acne is easier to treat than hyperpigmentation for skin of color. And for that, Sunscreen plays a vital role. I have Oily/Combination skin type. And I always struggle to find a good Sunceeen formula that works good, doesn't irritate my sensitive skin and is non-greasy! I tried these three along with many others but I feel I should speak about these first. Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Sunscreen SPF 50 was my go to for a long time. It worked well on my skin. I found it a little greasy and heavy but I used to be ok with it until it started burning my eyes. I kept using it for months and it irritated my eyes more and more. The formula is oily more than watery and it's nowhere near to be called a gel. It leaves a slight white cast which I used to be fine with. Now it's laying around in my drawer only for review purpose! I believe The Ultra sheer fry touch is a better drugstore option for Oily/Combination skin. Another drugstore option is Aveeno - Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen I found it absolutely similar to Neutrogena Hydro boost. Similar in consistency and finish. Leaves skin greasy and leaves white cast. And it also burns my eyes. If you apply your morning skincare underneath this will make you look more greasy. Third option is more recent and I was quite excited about this one TULA SKINCARE - Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30 as it said Daily suncreen 'Gel'. I wanted a lightweight gel formula for my oily skin and I thought this is it. But It's sadly not. This has shimmer in it that helps with not leaving a white cast on skin but makes you look like a disco ball. I apply my morning skincare every single day and on top of that I tried this sunscreen. It leaves skin the most oily and heavy. The shimmer in it adds more shine and that's what I was avoiding. The only good thing about this is, it doesn't burn my eyes. One plus point that I appreciate a lot. But the formula and finish of it is a big No for me. It leaves me with K-beauty Sunscreens. I am about to order Purito, Klairs and Biore' from yesstyle. I will be reviewing them later. Hope this helps for someone who has similar skin like me! ❤️
