I am an Esthetician with normal skin and occasional dryness.
I had heard a lot of great things about this brand “Supergoop.” But not wanting to buy a full bottle of their sunscreen, because their sunscreens are rather expensive, I decided to opt for a sample size of one of their facial sunscreens. And I have to say, this one is rather disappointing. Firstly, the texture of this sunscreen is rather runny and it reminded me of sunscreens I would use when going to the beach when I was a kid. Secondly, when I apply it to my face it feels very goopy and very sticky. Thirdly, this gives my face a weird shine, now some people might like this but I, on the other hand, do not. The one positive thing I will say about this is that it leaves absolutely no white cast whatsoever! Supergoop! - Daily Dose Vitamin C + SPF 40 Sunscreen Serum PA+++

New Favorite Lip Balm
I had heard many good things about this lip balm and I was hesitant about it mainly because of the price ($15). Now having tried it, 100% worth it! It goes on and stays on, makes my lips feel so smooth, has a slight shimmer to it, and smells so divine! I’ve only tried the birthday cake scent but will definitely try other scents! A common issue I had with eye creams was that they were always too thick and tacky for me. But for this one, not only does it go on smoothly, it works! Definitely recommend this and will definitely get this again! THE inkey LIST - Caffeine Eye Cream

Not a Fan
During the winter, my skin, including my lips, is very dry! I decided to try this ointment for the sole purpose to use on my lips. When first applying this, it felt smooth and awesome on my lips. But after awhile and it’s eventually rubbed off, I suddenly realize, “That did nothing.” I’ve had similar results using regular chapstick and Vaseline. CeraVe - Healing Ointment
I’ve never used this brand, TONYMOLY, before and I’ve always been kinda hesitant to try them out because of the packaging. The packaging just made it seem like their products were you know, “made for kids,” and just very cutesy. It was just hard for me to take this brand seriously. But I saw this bottle at Ulta and I honestly just had to try it out! It is a dry loose powder, and once you start adding water, the powder then foams up. That said, the powder can be a little messy, it does dissolve in water rather quickly, and some of the powder does bunch up into a little ball. The experience was cool, but I don’t really feel like it properly exfoliated my face. But this did inspire me to try more products from this brand! “Second Puberty” and how I deal with it.
I am in my early thirties and have gone into “Second Puberty”. I had heard about it from my cousin but truly didn’t believe her since I have never heard of it before then. I was 24 when she described that “awkward” time to me and said to be prepared to deal with it when it comes around. I most definitely should have took her words to heart because I was not at all prepared for what was to come. My skin went from vibrant and bright to dull, acne prone and textured within a small time frame. I got pimples on my chin and forehead which I haven’t had to deal with for a long, long time. I was still using my simplified routine from my 20’s and I knew I needed to change. I started using remedies and products I used to use as a teen with no results and in some instances, it made my skin issues worse! I was told by a friend to start doing the Korean Skin Care Routine and add a thicker moisturizer and sunscreen. It worked and I’ve been kind of obsessed with skincare ever since but after awhile it wasn’t helping and my skin went back to the way it was. I thought it may have been product overload which my skin was not a fan of. I had to do something about this and fast! Then, I found Hyram in April of this year and my whole world changed. I watched/listened to his videos and started Cevarve as well as The Ordinary and Bliss. I looked at other YouTubers like TheGoldenRX who is an African American esthetician and started taking what I learned to start a routine that fit me perfectly. I started checking brands on the Think Dirty app for all natural cruelty free products and finding brands on well known lists for dupes to popular products. I did my research and found a routine that works well for me. I am so proud to have finally gotten this under control and I get to enjoy my skin as well as my routine. My hair also started to change. Gray hair all over my head BUT to be honest, I’m not doing too much about that. I consider my gray hair my wisdom and luck so they won’t be touched. I take care of my hair and go according to my natural hair care routine. I also do a lot of protective styles like wigs, twists and cornrows. I don’t dye my hair or process it. I knew this was happening and I have embraced it with my whole heart. Tell me - Have you hit “Second Puberty”? If so, how do you deal with the change? Purging vs. breakouts
I found this nifty chart on Instagram and though I would give this a share! The actual term for skin purging is a reaction to an active ingredient that is increasing skin cell turn over. As the skin cell turn over rate speeds up, ones skin will start shedding dead skin cells faster then normal. Skin purging looks like any type of acne. It can look like small, tender, red bumps on the skin and can be accompanied by black heads and white heads. Some other ingredients that aren’t listed in the chart above that can cause skin purging are benzoyl peroxide, lactic acid, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. Chemical peels and laser treatments can produce a similar effect on the skin. Dermatologists say that skin purging lasts 4-6 weeks or about 28 days. If you are experiencing a purge that lasts longer then 6 weeks you should consult a dermatologist. Breakouts are when the openings of hair follicles on the face and body becomes clogged and blocked with oil and dead skin cells. When the clogged pore becomes infected with bacteria, it will form a pimple. There are numerous reasons that cause breakouts such as hormonal imbalances, unhealthy diets, excessive stress, excessive production of sebum, upon many more things. Same as purging, breakouts should only last 28 days (4-6 weeks). If a breakout last longer then 6 weeks consult a dermatologist. You should also discontinue the use of products that are exacerbating you breakouts.
PURGING vs. IRRITATION
Hi Cuties! So I’ve been refining my skincare routine recently and got a little trigger happy! I added two new products to my routine one after another. A few days passed and a couple of whiteheads cropped up, but I couldn’t be sure if I was finally in the purging periods of my retinol or if my new oil cleanser was making me react! So I did what any skincare aficionado would do, RESEARCH! PURGING 🌹 • Will show up in areas where you already get break outs • Is only caused by active ingredients* • Any acne that comes to the surface will heal more rapidly than during the regular life cycle of a pimple • Should come to an end within 12 weeks (from the start of product use) IRRITATION 🥀 • Can appear anywhere on your face • Will often cause a sensation referred to as ‘sandpaper skin’ where your skin feels rough and bumpy • Can be caused by any kind of product (cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, etc) • Some products cause irritation because the skin barrier it comes in contact with is compromised * Active ingredients cause purging because they increase skin cell turnover. Meaning that any acne forming under the skin is brought the the surface more quickly than it would be regularly. Things like vitamin a (retinols/retinoids), aha’s, bha’s, pha’s, and vitamin c can all cause purging. Have any of your guys experienced purging? How did you cope?

Tips from a dermatologist on sunscreen ☀️
Let’s talk about sunscreen ☀️ What’s a good sunscreen to wear? One that is: * Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays) * SPF 30 or higher * Water resistant This will help protect your skin from early skin aging, sunburn, and skin cancer. What is the difference between chemical and physical sunscreens? Chemical sunscreens work like a sponge, absorbing the sun’s rays. They contain one or more of the following ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. These are often easier to rub into the skin without a white cast. Physical sunscreens (aka mineral sunscreens) act like a shield, sitting on the surface of your skin and deflecting the sun’s rays. These can come on white. They have the active ingredients zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide Reapply every 2 hours when outside in the sun ☀️ Some of my favorites: Tinted: Cerave tinted, la roche posay tinted, alastin CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50 ALASTIN SKINCARE - HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36 Not tinted: colorescience, drunk elephant colorescience - Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 Sunscreen DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 What’s your favorite sunscreen?
