Battle of the Aloe Veras! K beauty skincare
SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel
Minimize trauma to the skin after picking🧖🏾♀️
as someone who suffers from dermatillomania, it can be very triggering when breakouts come out of nowhere and return with no warning...especially when life isn’t always easy. which may trigger you to pick even more. some of these products really helped repair the broken skin i was creating for myself from picking without further irritating. i am still trying to put together a perfect post picking routine. (Which will go up here ASAP.) However, what i do know is that HYDRATION post picking is very important. if you can’t help yourself but pop pimples or pick at your skin, pls drop the tools & use q tips!! the closer to the surface the acne is, the better! before and after picking its important to wash your hands and cleanse your skin. I go straight for theCeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser I like this for treating irritated, broken skin/ scabs on my face because it’s non irritating and doesn’t further strip the already broken skin when cleansing. This cleanser hasn’t really helped much with existing (comedongenic) acne for me. But it is good for this. Right after, i go straight for HOLIKA HOLIKA - Aloe 99% Soothing Gel & CeraVe - Healing Ointment I LOVEEEE both of these products. They’ve helped calm irritation, and resurface scars both on my face and my body but also helps the scabs fall off a bit quicker with less trauma to the skin. Add some hyluaronic acid to this mixture!! After this, I applyAveeno - Daily Moisturizing Lotion This lotion has really helped fade acne scars alone/ used with other products. The dimethicone in this product works as a skin protectant. If I am headed outside, (Though this mini routine is ideal for the night time, I would apply my BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN - Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 SPF is very important for us pickers. Don’t skip the SPF! 🧴Avoid any chemical exfoliants or tugging or scrubbing at the broken skin until the lesion and scab has healed! Make sure to keep the scabs moisturized!
I bought a huge aloe leaf for $5
Holika holika is a kbeauty brand that’s been known to make some really great products. One of those great products is the soothing gel that’s made from 99% aloe Vera from jeju Island. I purchased mine at Marshall’s for $5 but it’s also available on amazon for around $6 or so. If you’ve been keeping up with my posts you should know that I’ve started retinol recently and it’s making my skin purge. I use this HOLIKA HOLIKA - Aloe 99% Soothing Gel as my morning and night moisturizer to help with some of the redness from my breakouts. So far I’m in love with it, just it just has one teeny tiny problem. It’s hard to get only a small amount of the product out of the bottle 😭 My face is fairly small so I only need maybe a nickel size amount to cover my whole face because a little bit of this stuff goes and EXTREMELY long way. The dispenser makes it a bit hard to get only a little because you have to be very gentle when pressing the leaf. That’s my only problem with this product though. I really love the scent because it smells really clean and refreshing. Fragrance is one of the last ingredients so that’s also pretty good. It has a very watery gel like texture but once it absorbs into the skin it stays in the skin. The look of the product is also very cute and I enjoy it. So is it worth it for $5? Yes :)
Holika Holika Aloe Facial Cleansing Foam
HOLIKA HOLIKA - Aloe Facial Cleansing Foam The first time I tried this was in 2018 when I was working in China, I did a big Korean beauty haul and this was one of my favorite items! I haven’t bought it since then mostly because I like trying a lot of new stuff so my skin doesn’t get used to any one thing, but it’s been long enough and it’s time to pick it up again. It actually cleanses my face without drying me out or irritating my sensitive skin. This is one of the most soothing cleansers I’ve ever used and the packaging being so cute is definitely a bonus. I can use it in the summer or winter because it is so good to the skin. Absolutely love it!
Sensitive Skin Ingredients
This is a great guide to show skin sensitive issues ingredients! When I was dealing with skin barrier inflammation, some of these products saved my life. Ingredients I swear by: Aloe Vera: this is great for inflammation and red skin. The plant is amazingly effective, but you can also buy the 100% gel at your local store as well! Fruit of the Earth - Aloe Vera 100% Gel SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel Green Tea: The tea is a favorite I drink every morning, but I also love this in mask form! TONYMOLY - I'm Real Green Tea Sheet Mask Vitamin C Derivative: There’s many forms of Vitamin C. The strongest, L- Ascorbic Acid, is mostly toted for their effects, but there are other options. Sodium Ascorbly Phosphate, Magnesium Ascorbly Phospahte, etc. If you have skin sensitivity (burning, tingling, etc) to Vitamin C I recommend : Seoul Ceuticals - 20% Vitamin C Hyaluronic Acid Serum Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serum Lukewarm Water to Rinse: I recommend this no matter type of skin you have. Hot water can dry your face out, making you skin more irritable and sensitive. Less is Key: When experiencing sensitivity it can often be associated to new products and the amount you use on your face. You do not need a 10 step routine to treat skin issues I found when I was using 3-4 steps my skin was treated just as effectively, you just need to find what works for your skin. Mineral sunscreen: There are two types of sunscreen physical and mineral. Physical are usually chemical based and can cause irritation. Some great mineral sunscreens I’ve tried: Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Neutrogena - Sensitive Skin Face Liquid Sunscreen SPF 50 My skin is not as sensitive as it was before but this is great photo I got from (babeandbeauty on IG).
Aloe Vera: You Need This Year Round 🍃
Aloe Vera is A M A Z I N G. I usually get it from the supermarket and cut it up and store it, but since I’ve been in to K Beauty, purchased this from Ulta. SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel I originally bought this for irritation from my acids and to help my skin barrier. Since then, I’ve used it for just about everything else! Post wax/shaving soothing Acne scarring Relief from cold winds (moisture) Bug bites Other benefits: Sunburn relief Redness relief Irritation relief Rash relief Chafing relief This product was $8.00! Of course a little goes a long ways! It doesn’t have much of a smell and it’s very moisturizing. It does have added ingredients (which keeps it preserved). It does have fragrance so if you have skin sensitivity to fragrance I would avoid. I would also recommend Aloe Vera plants (you can get them for $3 a piece). The only downside to buying natural plants, is they have a tendency to go bad. This jar has lasted me about a month and I still have plenty left.
let’s talk moisturizers
moisturizing is one of the most important steps of your routine, so you’ve gotta make sure you get it right! here are some things that will make up a moisturizer so you can hopefully find what’s best for you: humectants great for oily skin, very light weight and hydrating occlusives pretty heavy, great for dry skin, help reduce the loss of hydration emollients simply just keep your skin smooth and even *gel moisturizers are better for oily skin and creams are better for dry skin*
No roses for you!
The products pictured is Herbal Dynamics Beauty Black Rose and Damask concentrated face balm. There is an actual reason why i typed out the whole name of the product. When I read face balm, I was imagining something along the lines of Lush’s Ultrabland. An oil based cleanser which is great for make up removal. They’re pretty much identical in texture. However, the balm is actually a day and night moisturizer. So as much as I know that it is my fault for not reading the label, I feel like the product should have “moisturizer” or “salve” in the name, since that is it’s interned purpose. The name of the product is not my only issue, as there is something more major. My boyfriend is obsessed with Ultrabland so I wanted him to try this product out. He tried it once, everything was fine. It’s important to note that he rubbed the product in and then washed it off. We were going out that day and I noticed that there were wet spots on his face but I brushed it off. I thought maybe he didn’t rub in his actual moisturizer well into his skin. The next day he used the product again, once again, washing it all off. And holy sh*t, did all hell break loose. His face started burning immediately, and not just the sensation, it was painfully red. His face was burning so much that it started overproducing sebum (the wet spot from before) and it just all looked so bizarre. There was literally a burn on his face, and HE WASHED OFF THE PRODUCT. While my boyfriend does have sensitive skin, I have used chemical peels on him before and he was perfectly fine. But having this balm on his face for 1 minute left him with a literal burn. I’m not sure what in the ingredient list could have done this, but my mind does go to the essential oils. Needless to say that he no longer lets me recommend products to him lol. BATTLE OF SUNSCREENS
Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion SPF 30 with Sunflower Extract this is a pretty good sunscreen. it makes your skin look rlly shiny so i do not recommend for oily skin . it leaves a very shiny dewy look. i use this when i’m doing no makeup at all and gonna be home all day. CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 this sunscreen is amazing. it works for my medium skin and leaves my skin very dewy but in a good way. it might not be right for darker skin tones because it has a color and it’s a medium tone so it would look washed on someone darker. Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 this kinda disappointed me. i bought this looking for a nice feel on the skin on summer days but it doesn’t work for me. it feel like i’m putting a heavy oil on my skin and i don’t like that feeling. the only thing i think is nice is the fact that it is clear and you don’t have to worry about the white cast. CeraVe - Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 For Normal To Oily Skin this is one of my first sunscreens. i rlly enjoy using this and reapplying because it feels like i’m putting nothing in my skin. it’s so light for hot humid days. it claims to leave a matte finish but i don’t see a difference maybe because if my serums i add before.
CeraVe-Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30
The BEST Everyday SPF 😎
I have been using this product as my daily go to sunscreen all summer! This is by far the best SPF moisturizer I have ever used. I have normal to sensitive skin that is pretty fair. There is absolutely no white residue leftover after applying, and it doesn’t have that sunscreen smell. I apply this after my usual moisturizer, though I’m sure it could also stand-alone as a moisturizer! At $38 it is a little expensive, but investing in a quality sunscreen is always worth it. I 100% recommend this product for daily use to protect your skin!

A great gel-cream for acne prone or oily skin
I stumbled upon this in a Shoppers Drug Mart and I was shocked because I had no idea Versed was available in 🇨🇦! I instantly grabbed a bunch of different products to try out. I’m so excited there is another solid & affordable brand to get from the drugstores here. So far, this has been one of my favourite products. Something that I really like about this product / brand is that like most gel creams, they are not for everyone and Versed actually added into their description on the site who this would be best suited for (people dealing with warmer weather or oily / acne prone skin types). It feels very transparent and I’m glad they point this out versus just claiming this hydrates and is good for all skin types. The good: + It’s super lightweight on the skin and didn’t break me out at all. + Once you apply this your skin feels moisturized but not greasy. Just a little dewy like they mention in the name. + Absorbs quickly into the skin and never reacts badly under SPF or makeup. + Even though it doesn’t feel heavy, my skin does stay hydrated throughout the day. + Key ingredients include (listed by highest in the ingredient list to lower): Glycerin (humectant that pulls water in), Squalane (emollient that hydrates the skin & antioxidant), Aloe Leaf Juice (soothes and hydrates), Cammellia sinesis leaf extract (antioxidant from green tea), Jojoba seed oil (another emollient) and Sodium Hyaluronate (an ultimate moisturizer also known as Hyaluronic Acid). + For those with sensitive skin, this has no fragrance. + I think you get a pretty good amount of product in this tube. For $20, you get 60ml of product which is 13ml more than you get with the Neutrogena Hydro Boost. + I actually really like this packaging. This squeezey tube setup feels a little bit more hygienic than the tubs of moisturizer (no hate, I still use those). + Vegan & cruelty-free. The not so good: - As with most affordable gel creams, this might not be enough moisture if you have any dry patches on your face. I do have a couple areas right now that feel a bit drier than usual and I do feel the need to use a hyaluronic acid serum to amp up the hydration. Personally, this doesn’t bug me too much that I need to supplement in those areas, but if you have drier skin you may want to try out another moisturizer that provides more heavy duty moisture. Worth it? For sure. You get a good amount of product (more than the average gel-cream), it has great ingredients, it works and it’s just $20. ☑️ Will I repurchase? I definitely expect to buy this again. It would be so good for travelling and just general everyday routines. I do suspect that come the colder months I will need something a little more heavy duty (can you believe it’s already September!) at night time. But come Spring, I bet it will become a staple in my routine. Ps I have combo, acne prone skin :)

iNNBEAUTY FAV OR MEH?
iNNBEAUTY is total vibes inside and out! It’s definitely a FAV!! I was first drawn to iNNBEAUTY due to the unique and bright packaging. After looking into their products I decided to buy a set for $50 and it came with everything you see above. I’ve still yet to try the peel off mask and eye patches, but I really love everything else. iNNBEAUTY PROJECT has a special Even out complex to help smooth out texture and skin tone. This brand is vegan and cruelty free. My experience has been nothing but great. I really love the foaming cleanser! I’m actually almost done with it. I have noticed less texture and a more even complexion since I started using these products. My skin is dry and sensitive, fortunately none of iNNBEAUTY products bothered my skin! iNNBEAUTY IS A FAV👍🏽🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 iNNBEAUTY PROJECT - Foam Around Clarifying Daily Cleanser As of right now, this is my 2nd favorite cleanser. It’s great to get all the yuck off of your face after a long day. + foaming cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin + dissolves makeup (still use this with a double cleanse) + maintains moisture and doesn’t disrupt the skin barrier. + for all skin types. Great for acne. + contains Salicylic acid to deep clean pores. + Glycolic, Lactic, and Gluconolactone Acid Blend improve skin tone, texture, and clarity. + Green Coffee Bean Extract helps inflammation and protect from free-radical damage. + other ingredients include Niacinamide and Bilberry Extract to brighten. + contains the iNNBEAUTY Even out complex to help with tone, texture, and dull skin. $22 for 3.4 fl oz - it has lasted me 3+ months - may not be the best cleanser for extra dry skin. iNNBEAUTY PROJECT - Next Level Daily Moisturizer This is a pretty light moisturizer. I will say it’s taken me many uses to like it, I did not like it upon the first few uses. I think my skin was too dry to see good results. + squeeze tube for easy application and great for keeping germs and bacteria out. + light weight lotion type texture. + doesn’t leave you greasy or oily, just adds a dewy finish. + also includes Even Out Complex to work on texture, tone and dullness. + pH balanced. Clinically proven to hydrate skin for 72hrs. + includes Niacinamide, Apple & Mango extract, Ribose, Plant based hydration complex, and Bilberry Extract. - very fragrances, but smells really good. Citrus and floral scent. It does dissipate after moisturizer is rubbed in - I would pick something mor hydrating if you have very dry skin. $28 for 1.7 fl oz - a lot comes out of the tube, so gently squeeze product out so you don’t waste it. Have you tried iNNBEAUTY before? What’s your favorite skincare brand?

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
