🧪𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐀𝐜𝐧𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬🧪
𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐧 - patience is what you need if you want this ingredient to do wonders for your skin. great for acne and anti-aging - surely will be my bestfriend for a long time. although I think it doesn’t do much for my pigmentations, this has improved the texture of my skin tremendously.
~ 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐨-𝐀, 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚, 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐚 𝟎.𝟓% 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐭
𝐙𝐢𝐧𝐜 - the underrated one. I’ve always loved zinc for my scalp. I use it for my hairline, it’s an awesome ingredient for seborrheic dermatitis (self diagnosed😅) When I learned about malassezia folliculitis (fungal acne) and I was positive I had it, I tried Zinc for my face and it totally got rid of the pustules/whiteheads. I use it in the morning while in the shower, lather and leave it for 5-10mins on the face then rinse off. Give it a week of two to do its magic.
~ 𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐙 𝐁𝐚𝐫, 𝐓𝐎 𝐍𝐢𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐞+𝐙𝐢𝐧𝐜
𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐮𝐫 - I don’t see this a lot in cosmeceutical products but it’s one amazing ingredient. Just found my lost ointment not long ago. Sulfur is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It’s great on absorbing excess oil too. Leave it on affected area and rinse off after 10mins. I usually use it once, but if the acne is stubborn I would use it again the next day. Sulfur speeds up the process of healing the skin.
❗️sulfur can burn the skin and you can end up with dark marks, never leave it on for more than 10mins.
~ 𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐜 𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐝𝐞, 𝐒𝐀)
𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴:
𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐢𝐝 - excellent pore-clearing/exfoliant especially for acne prone skin
𝐍𝐢𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐞 - reduces inflammation
𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢:
tretinoin 0.018%
𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐲𝐜𝐢𝐧 -antibiotic, reduces bacteria and swelling (not for long term use)
𝐀𝐳𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐢𝐝 - anti-inflammatory , also great for rosacea sufferers

GabbieMartinAwesome post! Where did you get the Hydroquinone/Tret? And the Tret on the right side of the picture? Also, I’ve been really considering using sulfur also. Have you had any reactions using the sulfer while using Tret? Or do you use it on one of your off days? TIA!

FA safe but there is a Sulfur product I prefer
MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
^ has no fungal acne triggers
Has 2 ingredients that help fight fungal acne:
- Sulfur
- Salicylic Acid
Some people say it dries out there skin too much but I think it’s okay as a spot treatment. But it didn’t do much for my acne.
A Sulfur spot treatment mask that works really well for me is De La Cruz - Sulfur Ointment, Acne Medication, Maximum Strength which you only leave on clean skin for 10 min then wash it off and use your regular skin care products

Skincare Junkie Needs Help Please!
Does this look like fugal acne or closed comedones? What do you guys think about this?!
Thank you!!
I’m a self proclaimed skin care junkie. I love learning everything there is to learn. When this current situation started, I was so discouraged. I pay so much attention and care to my face, I can’t believe this happened to me.
I have a few hunches as to what it could have started it.
- Double cleansing with the same cleanser
(Paula’s Choice Optimal Results Hydrating)
- Wearing a mask outside in the cold over Christmas for 2 hours
- Wearing sunscreen under a mask
- Using too heavy of moisturizers on my face too frequently
(Acure Radically Rejuvenating Night Cream)
(The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors)
This is everything I was using at the time this started:
Paulas Choice Resist Optimal Results Cleanser
Drunk Elephant TLC

TO Absorbyl Glucoside Solution
Mychelle Sun Tint (Tint and non-tinted)

Products that helped my acne
I’ve struggled with acne since 7th grade (I’m 20 now). I have used a lot of products and there are a handful I want to share that have really helped me get closer to my clear skin goal.
PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator this is by far the best product I’ve ever used. My skin looks smoother and my acne has subsided tremendously. I can’t get enough of this. (I use it twice a week, working up to three). I really do believe this product is essential for clearer skin!
CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin this moisturizer has been my go to for about 5 years. It always keeps my skin hydrated and really helped when I was on acne prescriptions because my skin would always get really dry.
Curology - Curology formula I have a whole post dedicated to this, but it really did help me a lot. I like having dermatologist prescriptions over other treatments. So, this was a great option for me and worked wonders!
CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin I used to use the harshest face washed out there and strip my skin completely. This cleanser really helped me repair my moisture barrier and was gentle. My skin started looking really good after about 12 uses of this.
The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% this stuff is a miracle in a bottle!! My face is way less sensitive and my oils are under control. The redness from my acne subsides with the help of this product and I find it to help my acne heal and become smaller faster.
Kate Somerville - EradiKate Acne Treatment this treatment really helped me when I had minimal breakouts. This dried out my pimples over night and helped them go away faster. This was a really nice treatment and I plan on using it again when my face is clearer and I no longer feel the need to continue curology!!

How I Cleared My Acne in 3 MONTHS!!!
I‘ve struggled with cystic hormonal acne for years, but when I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer, I didn’t imagine I’d experience the worst breakout of my 27 years of life...
I was so overwhelmed and stressed, that I honestly forgot all about my skincare until it looked like this!
And just like breast cancer, cystic acne hurts physically and mentally, but I had to regain control. I couldn’t control what was happening to me, but I could refocus, change my perspective, and restart my skincare routine 😅
Then I was gifted this medically personalized product to try and this is was my three month progress! 👏🏼✨
It’s different for everyone, but I noticed a difference in my skin after 4 weeks of consistent use. I’d say, it’s definitely worth a try, so I’ll leave a link to a 1-month trial for $4.95!

My P.M Skincare routine
It took me about a year to formulate and create a skin care routine that catered to my own skin perfectly. I must say, I have come a long way from using witch hazel and apricot scrubs and figured out what my skin needs. It’s amazing progress. Hopefully this year I will incorporate a retinol into my routine.

Overhyped products; didn’t see a difference
I’ve used these products consistently over the period of a couple months (not necessarily in combination with each other). I haven’t noticed a difference and realize I don’t particularly love the feel of serums and oils. Here’s my review of each product individually and one ordinary product that I do feel like makes a difference.
PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator
I was super excited to try and love this product and was mainly wanting help with blackheads on my nose. I haven’t noticed a difference even when using the product twice a day for a couple months. The product is very oily and it’s easy to get all over the bottle. Not a toner that can be used without a cotton pad
The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
I don’t love the textures of these products and am disappointed not seeing a difference after using consistently and over half the bottle is gone.
dear, klairs - Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drop
This product is very oily. I want to include vitamin C in my skincare routine but just didn’t enjoy this particular one.
e.l.f. - Happy Hydration Cream
I love all of elf’s products and bought this thinking I would love it. It leaves a white cast and I don’t like the feel when I put this moisturizer on, because of this I have been using it just at night I order to not waste the product. Elf has much better products than this one for sure!
One product I do like:
The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
I’ve started using this once a week and believe it is helping with my blackheads. It is drying and I have sensitive skin so if you’re like me I would suggest only once a week for 8 min and consider a hydrating mask afterwards.

RENTINOIDs: the BEST super ingredient
🌸 note: two of the products in my picture are prescription only, high grade retinoids. but i have tagged their drug store dupes that are the SAME product with a lower concentration
🌸 WHAT IS A RETINOL?
in the most basic form, a retinoid is a form of VITAMIN A which encourages skin cells to break down and turn over faster, resulting in reduction of acne, wrinkles, dark spots and signs of aging. It promotes collagen production, unclogs pores, and reduces scarring. its actually thickens skin, preventing wrinkles from forming
☀️☀️ALWAYS USE AN SPF WITH RETINOIDS☀️☀️
because your skin cells are dying and regenerating so quickly, you are much more prone to sunburns. read @jensanti‘s comment below for more health cautions!
they vary HIGHLY in strength (weak to strong list)

- retinoid esters: The weakest version of a retinoid, but is good for sensitive skin, surface level
retinol: found in a variety of products, works on the cellular level of skin
- adapalene (differin): Used to be prescription only but can now be found in a low-dose age in most drug stores. penetrates deeper and slows the production of sebum with faster cell turnover
- retinoic acid (Retin-A/tretinoin): works deeper in the skin, can produce overnight results in the form of dead skin peeling. Very advanced skin cell turnover, as it penetrates and stimulates cell death and production. Skin can become very sensitive, irritated , and red
- isotretinoin (Accutane): essentially sebum production is very limited and skin cell turnover is dramatically increased. on ingestible medication that will make your skin peel, dry out, and really kill acne. It’s prescription only but very effective.
🌸 products i use!
prescription only: ADAPALENE 0.3%
dupe: DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel
ADAPALENE is the primary form of retinol in this product. this has been my go to product for years, it makes me less sun sensitive then Retin-A 0.05%, while still giving me excellent skin cell turnover and anti aging benefits. It helped my skin go from absolute shiz to a much cleaner glowing face (see 4th pic)
prescription only: RETIN-A 0.05%
dupe: janssen - Retino-A 0.05% Tretinoin Cream
TRETENOIN is the primary form of retinoid in this product. these two may actually be the same product, but the one that I have I know is usually prescription grade. it will make your skin peel overnight, so I use it as a spot treatment if I get any deep set nodular acne. i used this for a couple years but it made me really sun sensitive, it is very strong!
luxury brand: SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum
RETINOL ESTER and CoQ10 are the primary forms of retinal in this product. this claims to have a 6.5% blend of stabilize retinoids and botanical retinoid alternative extracts. I think that it is incredibly overpriced for what it is. There are very similar dupes such as those from the inkey list and the ordinary

Turmeric face mask challenge...stay tuned for updates! I plan to do 5-7 days depending on irritation or potential side effects.
My skin is NOT virgin by any means. Consistently using The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% , OLE HENRIKSEN - Truth Serum , OLE HENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crème , janssen - Retino-A 0.05% Tretinoin Cream (stopped with Covid due to severe irritation under mask), TATCHA - The Water Cream , and Kiehl's - Calendula Deep Clean Foaming Face Wash . My hyperpigmentation is static at this point so looking for an adjunct to try with my routine. I normally have no breakouts/ acne but struggling a bit with maskne (12 hr shift RN) so taking it easy on a few of the products.
I’m praying for decreased hyperpigmentation. I’ll keep you all updated on progress as I go along.

Cystic acne gone!!!!!
It was such a hard time. The first photo is also a lot better compared to how my face was before. I didn’t even click any bare face photos as it was so bad, I would avoid looking myself in the mirror and meeting peoples. I never thought acne could literally mess your life up. Most importantly besides skin care products, I changed my diet as well.

My cerave retinol updates!
Well guys if you’ve been following my journey this is the beginning of my third week on the CeraVe - Resurfacing Retinol Serum and with it I have some updates.
The first is, my skin has gotten considerable worse in almost a week. The second picture shows my skin photo with a time stamp for the right side of my face. I hadn’t noticed how bad it had gotten but now that I have I’m really worried about whether this is a sign that this product isn’t for me or if this is almost the peak of my skin purging
The second is, my skin has gotten to the point where my mom said she is going to look into me going to the dermatologist 😭 I have been wanting to go for a while so hopefully my insurance covers the visit and I can go to one. I don’t know what to expect if I do though, so I’m kinda anxious about it because I feel like the derm is gonna be like “yeah so you’ve been doing skincare completely wrong” but fingers crossed I can go to one
The third is, my senior portraits are in a month so this whole thing is so ill timed and I’m hoping this purging ends before that or I have a solution to my skin problems 🙃🙃🙃
I’ve had a lot of what I’m thinking is purging and it’s really annoying because my acne has been scarring whether I pop my pimples or not, plus the pimples have become very stubborn in going away.
I know the purging process takes patience but so far for me it’s being really frustrating, I’m just hoping and praying the serum is going to do what it claims

UPDATED NIGHTTIME ROUTINE: MY SKIN CURRENTLY
well...
i changed my routine again,
but in my defence i was breaking out A LOT on my cheek, chin, and jawline area.
Like it was unbearable, i have SO MUCH. Most of them are turning into scars now which is good but with my skin, it takes a long time for it to go away.
so here’s my updated routine!
weTHE BODY SHOP - Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash
no need to further introduce this product,
i’ve reviewed it before and it’s one of my favs lol.
Fruit of the Earth - Aloe Vera 100% Gel
I use this to rehydrate and soothe my skin after washing it. It’s great for moisturizing and helping with acne scares, which is of course great for me.
The Ordinary - Mandelic Acid 10% + HA
So far so good!! I reviewed this product already and it’s doing great on my skin
VICHY - Minéral 89 Face Serum
i’ve used this before and it’s pretty good!
it does a great job of hydrating my skin to make it look all soft and supple. It also gives me a nice glow and is really good under makeup
VICHY - Normaderm Beautifying Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment
I’ve used this before again because i had the same problem with my acne and let me just say that it works wonders. In the matter of days my acne shallowing started to decrease in size and fade away. The active pimples became less red and irritated and are slowing going away which is great. The only problem is that when i used it before it dried my skin out a bit, but now i use some hydrating products along with it and it works out very good.
Welp that’s my new routine!!!
if anyone has any recommendations for acne and acne scars I really wanna hear it!
also if anyone can help me care for my acne that would be amazing!
Fruit of the Earth- Aloe Vera 100% Gel
my newest skincare purchases!
throughout the past few weeks my acne has flared up so because of that I decided to try a couple new products.
first- The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I have only been using this product for about a week and already am in love. For those of you who don’t know, niacinamide is an ingredient that brightens the skin and help balance oil production. I have definitely seen less oil on my face throughout the day and when using this product, it’s not like many other products I have tried for pores that immediately dry out my skin, this as well hydrates the skin. I would recommend this to anyone with oily to combo skin but I have seen it has been out of stock everywhere so as an alternative I would try the inkey list niacinamide serum.
second- CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel I had originally tried a sample size of this months ago and loved it. It immediately helped bring out the white head in my pores and I had been waiting for the mini size to come in stock to order it. My product finally came in the mail today and staring at it I am not sure the tiny .5 fl oz bottle was worth 18 dollars. Yes, the product does what it’s supposed to do but it does just that and is not very impressive. I glanced at the ingredient list and realized the product does contain two ingredients I am NOT a fan of at all. The FIRST ingredient was denatured alcohol. Denatured alcohol is an ingredient that will strip your skin but can tend to be very stripping to your skin. The fourth ingredient is witch hazel which is very simaler to denatured alcohol and acts like am astringent by drying out your pimples or pores. I rated this product a 3/5 because it does what it is said to do but, also is not worth the price and I don’t like the ingredients other then salycic acid.
third- KINSHIP - Naked Papaya Gentle Enzyme Face Cleanser For a long time I had been using a cleanser that was way two stripping for my skin so I decided to try a more hydrating cleanser. First off the bat, I noticed that it had a super strong papaya scent that was not from fragrance but from natural papaya. An ingredient that stood out to me was aloe to sooth the skin. This is also alcohol free and fragrance free. This product was super soft on the skin and felt nice but I have been using it for three weeks and have not seen any results. It cleans your skin and gets rid of dirt but, it hasn’t helped with my acne and pores at all.
I will give you an update if I see any difference in results in these products but for now this is how I feel. Have you tried any of these? If so what were your thoughts?
CLINIQUE-Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel
Products that helped me with mascne (mask acne)
So I work 7 hour shifts at work as a beauty cosmetician at Shoppers Drug Mart (a Canadian version of Ulta? Or Target I guess) My skin type is combo, but more on the oilier side. Acne prone as well. Wearing masks 4-5 days a week for 7 hour shifts has really impacted and sensitized my skin. I wanted to share some products that have helped me calm down my acne and the acne scars!
The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
I saw this hyped up on tiktok and it seemed intriguing to me so I wanted to try. It has made a difference in my skin! I find at it helps control my oil and lightens my acne scars.
#Biacna - Tretinoin 0.025% with clindamycin phosphate 1.2%[products]#[FiveStars]
This topical gel has a higher level of retinol in it! I used to use 0.04% in high school but it hasn’t really made a difference now. It does dry out my skin, as a side effect but I make sure I use a more richer mosturizer when I use it (only in the night time routine). It renews my skin faster and HELPS greatly with the pigmentation my acne leaves.
It has vitamin A and a thin layer is all you need. (Less is more) Btw: it’s an Rx (prescription)
LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Sensitive Riche
This moisturizer is the one I use in the night time when I use my Rx. In the morning, I use the fluide version as it’s the same formula but just in a gel consistency, great for summer and lightweight. It’s very hydrating and I can literally feel my skin taking in the moisture it needs from wearing a mask all day! Wearing masks have made my skin irritated, sensitive, and break out excessively. It’s got ceramides to repair the skin barrier, vitamin B3 to soothe the skin, and their La Roche Posay thermal spring water to clam and reduce irritations. The best part is: it’s
Non comedogenic (always a must for my acne prone skin)
Hypoallergenic
Alcohol free
Paraben Free
Fragrance free
Not wearing makeup has made a difference in my skin as well. If I want to wear makeup at work, I focus on eyeliner/ eyeshadow looks for my eyes instead.
DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil
THIS. IS. AMAZING. I have never tried a cleansing oil before but ITS A MUST in my night time routine. I can ACTUALLY feel the oil and dirt coming off my skin, and I do many blackheads and oil plugs have LITERALLY FELL OFF MY SKIN. My skin thanks me so much for double cleansing! This one smells like olive oil but that doesn’t bother me. It’s got no fragrance I believe and a little goes a long way. I got mine from Amazon!
DHC-Deep Cleansing Oil
In a battle with my skin...
Well, I think I kind of feel comfortable to share a big part of my insecurities with you guys. I have seen many many ladies sharing their experiences with their acne battle that it has been making me feel like I am not the only one struggling from this (just like I feel when I’m on Instagram).
So I decided to share the current skin care routine that I have to see if I can find any suggestions from other girls!
I have a combination skin. I have whiteheads, papules, postules and even some nodular acne near my ears. Big pores, dark spots, and uff 😅
Just to be clear, I am breastfeeding for the moment, and I have seen that this new product (I bought it accidentally) made a big change on my face. Which is the the CeraVe - Skin Renewing Retinol Cream Serum in only 2 days my skin was reflecting happiness and healing. It wasn’t until the third time that I used it that I noticed it wasn’t the CeraVe - Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum that I thought I bought because of the retinol. I got so disappointed cuz it can affect my baby so I had to remove it from my routine.
I wanted to ask, to any girl who is breastfeeding, which type of products are you ladies implementing m into your routines that it still feels like if you’re getting the same results as using retinol?
I took the tretinoin treatment like 5-6 years ago so I know retinol can bring me marvelous results, but I have to wait until my breastfeeding journals ends. 😓
For the meantime, any suggestion?
Please don’t judge.
