Follow this 3-step morning skincare to give your skin extra sleep😴
A good morning makes a good day. But…I just hope to have a few extra minutes in bed before going to work! As a girl, we have to accept the fact that we spend much time on our morning skincare and makeup. After being late for work several times, I decided to simplify my skincare steps to save the sleeping time in the morning. This is absolutely not a rash decision, because if you know your skin type and understand what it needs, moist? whitening? antioxidant? or anti-aging? You just use the targeted products then. Let me tell you my 3-step skincare in the morning. 1. Facial cleaning Some may directly omit facial cleanser in the morning to simplify the skincare process. But there are bacteria, mite, and dust on the pillow and quilt, so a facial cleanser is needed. It's just that you don't need an overly strong cleanser, choose a relatively mild amino acid cleanser to avoid skin irritation, especially for sensitive skin. #EltaMD - Foaming Facial Cleanser[products]# I use a star product--EltaMD Foaming Facial Cleanser. I will put one pump of this foaming facial cleanser in my hands and apply it to my face. After about 10 seconds of scrubbing gently on my face, it creates a dense foam. Gentle enough, I like that it’s fragrance-free and fresh feeling. One more advantage is that it doesn’t cause any discomfort to my sensitive skin. 2. Moisturizing The skin and body both in the morning are in a state of water shortage, so hydrating appears important. So after cleansing your face, be sure to use skincare products with moisturizing effects. Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Toner

💖My secret UV protection weapon💖
I've purchased all four of the following sunscreens at least twice. I highly recommend them! Kiehl's Ultra-Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA++++ Anti-Pollution (I personally think that it's suitable for dry skin, so if you have oily skin, test it out before buying it) Feeling: I've read online that it provides great UV protection. I never stay in the sun for too long and I only used it during daily work, but my skin did not darken. It has a runny consistency with a lotion texture which spreads easily on the skin but settles on the skin slowly. I think it's more suitable for fall and winter use. For spring and summer, I'll also replace the moisturizer or facial cleanser with this sunscreen after using a toner and a serum for an even greater moisturizing effect. It brightens skin complexion and gives it a natural radiance. It also blends well with follow-up foundation when it's used as a primer. Murad - City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 / PA++++ (Suitable for all skin types) Feeling: It has a correction liquid texture which is very lightweight and spreads easily. It evens out skin tone and brightens skin complexion, making it suitable for those who have places to go to but don't want to wear makeup. CLARINS - UV PLUS Anti-Pollution Sunscreen Multi-Protection Tint SPF 50(Suitable for all skin types) Feeling: It has the same correction liquid texture as the Murad sunscreen, is very lightweight, and spreads easily as well, making it suitable to be used all year round. It has three shades including transparent, pink, and blue. After using and comparing the transparent and pink ones, I strongly recommend the pink one which helps even out and lighten skin tone. AMPLEUR - Luxury White W Protect UV Plus SPF 50+ PA++++ (Suitable for all skin types) Feeling: It has more of a lotion texture when compared with Kiehl's sunscreen, but it really spreads very easily. It's refreshing and doesn't leave the skin feeling greasy, settling on the skin fast. It's very moisturizing, so it's suitable for use all year round.
The Worst Physical Sunscreen Award Goes To...
I want to share with you the worst physical sunscreens I've ever used. REN CLEAN SKINCARE - Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 It's US$36 and has a thick and sticky texture, leaving a white cast on the skin. It can't spread evenly at all, no matter what skincare products I've applied beforehand. Supergoop! - Smooth & Poreless Mineral Sunscreen It's US$38 and has a silky texture that leaves skin greasy. It's difficult to wear makeup afterwards as it balls up and rubs off easily, so it's quite useless. CLINIQUE - Pep-Start Daily UV Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 50 It's US$19.50 before tax and I've three tubes of it at home. It has a runny consistency and creamy texture, naturally brightening skin complexion but not leaving a white cast on the skin. It's a little greasy when first applied on the skin, but this is the same with all physical sunscreens. It neither affects my follow-up makeup nor does it cause any skin problems. But I think the same series SPF 30 Sunscreen does nothing much. It's best to use it up as soon as possible after it's opened! PETER THOMAS ROTH - Max Mineral Naked Broad Spectrum SPF 45 Uva/Uvb Protective Lotion It's US$38 and it has a thick and heavy texture. The paste and oil separate after it's not used for a few days, so you end up just squeezing oil. Avoid this lotion if you dislike a greasy texture. If you're into physical sunscreen, give Murad - City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 / PA++++a go. It's literally the best physical sunscreen I've ever used.
My first love: Kiehls Facial Moisturizer w SPF ☀
Before I was into skincare, I was already head over heels for the Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 and used it religiously as a daily moisturizer / spf combo, going through several of the full size bottles! I’ve added dozens more products to my cabinets since then but I still come back to it time and time again Quick Info: ☀️ texture: lightweight cream that absorbs easily ☀️ scent: verrrry faint sunscreen smell, but basically none ☀️ active ingredient: octinoxate (chemical spf) ☀️ hydrating ingredient: squalane ☀️ the packaging claims this is for all skin types, but I find it is best for normal to dry skin. I have combo skin and my skin loves this most of the time, but very occasionally it’s too oily (never causes breakouts or pore congestion for me though) ☀️ not water resistant so grab something else for your beach and pool days I find Khiels ultra facial moisturizer is best for the days that I’m not using a ton of other skincare and am not layering on makeup. It does an amazing job as a stand-alone product, absorbing quickly into my face, hydrating and softening my skin while providing sun protection. I also find I gravitate most towards it in the winter when my face is a bit drier, but I’ve been using it recently too. Have you tried this sunscreen? What did you think?
SPF ROUNDUP ☀️
Happy Fourth of July weekend everyone🇺🇸! It’s no secret that I am obsessed with sunscreen and heading into the long weekend, I’m highlighting all my favorites for sun protection: FACE 🎆 elta md SKINCARE - UV Shield Full-Body Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 45 I start every day with this year round. It’s targeted at normal to oily skin, and has a lightweight finish. Even on top of my face oils, this doesn’t sit too heavily on my face even during the summer 🎆 Supergoop! - Glow Stick SPF 50 My summer obsession, this reef-safe, face oil/spf stick keeps you glowing, hydrated, and protected all day long 🎆 Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock Broad Spectrum SPF 70 another great stick for on-the go reapplication, this one has a more matte finish and a classic fresh neutrogena spf smell 🎆 Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 my daily spf before I started using elta md. It’s better for normal to dry skin and I actually prefer it to elta md for winter because it focuses on moisturizing ingredients alongside spf 🎆 sun bum - Sunscreen Lip Balm SPF 30 I love lip balms with sunscreen! This one tastes/smells like coconut and has aloe for hydration. The biggest downside is that it melts down like coconut oil so if you apply more than a super thin layer you’ll feel like you’re eating this. 🎆 BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 PA +++ another lightweight, reef safe sunscreen that leaves no white-cast. I have several sample size bottles of this that I keep everywhere but probably wouldn’t buy the full size as I find it a bit greasy/sticky BODY 🎇 Sun Bum Broad Spectrun SPF 50 (cannot find in cherie) is a great all around sunscreen for long days on the water! It smells like banana laffy taffy, rubs in easily, and is water resistant for 80 minutes 🎇 Supergoop! - Glow Oil SPF 50 I love body oils so I was naturally drawn to this product. It has a spray nozzle for easy application or can be dispensed into your hand and spread on. This absorbs immediately and leaves you glowy all over...swoon! 🎇 Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion with SPF 15 (also not on Cherie) is how I finally convinced my sunscreen-hating fiancé to use daily sun protection. He uses it on his face as well as his body and loves that it feels like a moisturizer rather than a sticky sunscreen. ☀️ I hope you all have fun in the sun this weekend (with lots of spf of course 😉). What’s your go-to sunscreen?!
“Tone” down the hype on this one
Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Toner In my search for more hydration, but trying to keep the oil production at bay on my face, I tried this toner. Not impressed. The hydration felt surface level only and made me more greasy.
Sephora Sale: tried & true with some new! 🛍
If you haven’t yet stopped by Sephora for the holiday sale, make sure you do! The sale ends 11/9 and Beauty Insiders get 10% off, VIBs have 15% off, and Rouges have 20% off! Shop soon to take advantage of the sale for holiday shopping or a treat for yourself! TATCHA - The Liquid Silk Canvas: Featherweight Protective Primer - I absolutely love this primer! As a person with combination skin, I try to not use heavy primers so that my pores aren’t clogged and my makeup doesn’t last, but this primer is so light. In addition to making your skin look great by blurring pores and lines while reducing oil, the floral fragrance and packaging are beautiful. On light makeup days, I love wearing this, spot concealer, and a light round of setting powder as a base. Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Toner - This is a new find for me that I picked up the other day and have already seen incredible results from! My typical combination skin has been dry in patches on my forehead and nose making it hard for me to wear foundation and or see any effects from my other skincare products. I decided to change my toner after seeing some reviews of this online and I’m so glad I picked it up. The fragrance is minimal, if any at all, and the hydrating properties are simply incredible. My skin feels smooth and the dry flakes have vanished over two days. Yesterday, I was able to wear my foundation for the first time since the summer without my skin feeling tight or having to slather on moisturizer. If you struggle with dry skin, take advantage of the squalane in this toner to revamp your skin! NARS - Soft Matte Complete Concealer - I purchased this concealer after hearing Mikayla rave about it on tik tok and needing a replacement for my benefit - Benefit Boi-Ing Industrial Strength Concealer that I’ve used for about a year! In comparing the NARS and Benefit, the NARS concealer has about twice the product! I’m incredibly pleased with this concealer’s ability to blend into the skin, be matte while not drying, and the pot packaging! If you’re looking for something to coverup a spot here and there, this is it. fresh - Rose Deep Hydration Oil-Infused Serum - I have an undying love for fresh products that began with thefresh - Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 about two years ago. Since then, I have tried thefresh - Rose Face Mask , fresh - Rose Deep Hydration Toner , fresh - Lotus Anti- Aging Daily Moisturizer , and many more. This product is no exception and is one that is hydrating while not greasy. I’m totally aware that oil in the name can be unappealing, but it provides a nice healthy glow, softens, soothes, and absorbs so quickly. This is great face serum/oil that I recommend to people with dry, combination, normal skin and those who are not sensitive to fragrance.

Simple AM Routine for Dry Sensitive Skin ☀️ 🌵
This is my boyfriend’s simple AM skincare routine (created by me! 😁). Before we met 3 years ago, he never moisturized or used sunscreen, and washed his face with body wash. 😱 As you can imagine, his skin used to be hella dry and dehydrated, and his skin barrier was damaged. He has very dry, sensitive skin, isn’t acne-prone, and likes simple and quick routines so that he doesn’t have to spend too much time getting ready. ☀️AM Routine 1. Water rinse face - both he and I skip morning cleansing as to not overly strip the skin of its natural oils. 2. ETUDE - Soon Jung, 2x Barrier Intensive Cream This cream has been a lifesaver for his skin! It has ingredients like Madecassoside to repair the skin barrier. On my combo skin, this cream sits a little too occlusive and shiny, but his skin drinks it up without it being too heavy. Many other simple moisturizers such as the Cerave Moisturizing Cream sting his skin, but this moisturizer does not. 3. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ This sunscreen is a bit too moisturizing for me, but works well with his dry skin. It has a shiny finish on me, but absorbs more dewy on his skin and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky. His PM routine is also posted on my page!

Brand spotlight: Neutrogena
Neutrogena was the first brand that I tried when I was just a skin care newbie, and I stuck with it for many years, tried out a variety of products, because of its relatively student-friendly pricing yet decent product qualities. I was impressed by some of its products, but also hated some others. Overall, I would say it is a hit or miss with Neutrogena. Fav: Hydro Boost Water Gel My favourite product is the Hydro Boost Water Gel. Like the name suggests, this moisturiser is in a gel texture, perfect for my oily skin, but it is very hydrating at the same time, effective in relieving my skin’s inner dryness. This gel feels very refreshing and has a pleasant smell. Although the presence of fragrance worries me because it might irritate sensitive skin, I did not experience any major sensitivity after emptying two jars. I like to use it during the summer time, because it is not heavy on the skin while helping my skin stay hydrated and soft. However, I would not recommend it during winter seasons or for very dry skin types. Least fav: Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen On the other hand, I did not enjoy the Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen as much. It feels quite heavy and suffocating on the skin, compared to other sunscreens that I have tried. I have acne prone skin, and this sunscreen caused breakouts because I felt that my pores were clogged. However, true to its name, it does not leave a greasy finish on the skin but because of its texture, it is quite difficult to apply this sunscreen evenly across the face. It also leaves a white cast on the face.

🌟Oily-Acne Skin Moisturizer Awards 🌟
the best of the best for oily, acne prone skin like mine! ✨ Number One: dermalogica - Clearing Defense Moisturizer SPF 30 ingredients: willow bark, tapioca, green tea extract texture: Creamy scent: no scent finish: mattifying and keeps oil at bay price: $28 notes: this is my favorite because it has SPF 30 in it, keeps your skin Matte, and can treat acne. it literally goes on matte and stays that way, feels super lightweight and is in my budget ✨ Number Two: Dr. Jart+ - Teatreement Moisturizer ingredients: tea tree leaf extract, oil, green tea, aloe vera, chamomile, pinus pinaster bark, 4-terpineol texture: Joe moisturizer, not super fast absorbing scent: tea tree scent finish: natural price: $32 notes: this is really good for treating acne and keeping your skin less oily, but it doesn’t have any SPF in it. if you have sensitive skin, this is less strong than straight tea tree oil ✨ Number Three: it Cosmetics - Confidence in A Gel Lotion Weightless Moisturizer ingredients: ceramides, glycerin, cactus flower extract texture: clear gel scent: none finish: natural price: $36 notes: this is good if you have oily and dry skin at the same time, the gel moisturizer means that your skin isn’t going to be super oily, but you’re going to get the moisture that you need. it is a little pricey

Tips for Retinoid-Induced Dryness! 💦
Disclaimer: Two studies have shown that this Purito sunscreen only contains 19 SPF. They have stopped selling them and are offering refunds to those that have bought the product in the past 6 months. I no longer use or recommend this product. Check out Krave - The Beet Shield if you are looking for an alternative! I recently began using prescribed Clindamycin gel and Tretinoin cream for my acne. I already had dry, sensitive skin so adding these products has amped up those issues. So how am I dealing with my dry, irritated skin? Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant This ointment is designed for dry, cracked, or irritated skin. It’s clinically proven to restore smooth, healthy skin. It contains petrolatum, which acts as a skin protectant. Other ingredients include: mineral oil, ceresin, lanolin alcohol, panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol. I mainly use this ointment on my lips, but I occasionally use it under my eyes and inside my nose if they are extra dry. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration This cream aims to help hydrated, parched skin, as well as temporarily relieve minor irritation and itching due to eczema and other conditions. It is safe for sensitive skin, and does not contain parabens, harsh chemicals, or colorants. Its star ingredients include: colloidal oatmeal, shea butter, ceramides, and squalane. Unfortunately it does contain eucalyptus oil, but the small amount doesn’t irritate my skin. I use this cream as my AM moisturizer. It is deeply hydrating and absorbs into the skin easily. My skin feels so soft and smooth thanks to this cream. It soothes my skin after applying the clindamycin gel and reduces irritation. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ This sunscreen is perfect for dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin. It contains hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and centella asiatica extract. With its 70% moisture base and 4 different types of essences, it works like a moisturizing cream. It provides SPF50+, PA++++ protection. I use this after the Ultra Repair Cream in the AM and then reapply 1-2 times throughout the day. It provides my skin with much-needed hydration and UV protection. It’s the perfect consistency and rubs onto my skin so easily, all without being sticky. It soothes and smoothes my skin! These are just some of the products that I use. My whole routine is aimed at hydrating my skin and reducing irritation. My AM routine includes: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser , PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner , PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum , Clindamycin gel, FAB Ultra Relief Cream, and Purito Centella Unscented Sunscreen. My PM routine includes the same products listed above minus the SPF and CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream for my moisturizer.

skincare beginner rating Neutrogena products
So i’m brand new to skin care, and I had no idea where to start. This was the routine I started with 😊 After walking back and forth down the aisles of my local chemist warehouse, I settled on these four Neutrogena products to get myself into a basic routine. I have normal skin - no acne or regular spots. Would love to hear your thoughts on how to upgrade! Neutrogena - Fresh Foaming Cleanser The first step in my routine, massages onto my damp face. I haven’t been wearing makeup much, but if I had this did an OK job at removing my face makeup. Found it wasn’t best on my eyes and would sting. However apart from makeup, my skin feels quite clean after using. Neutrogena - Alcohol Free Toner Next up is the alcohol free toner. Applied with a cotton round. To be honest, I have no idea if this has affected my skin whatsoever, but hasn’t seemed to dried it out or cause any issues... Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel Used this as my moisturiser and boy i love this stuff. I’ve found it’s great in the mornings as it’s not so heavy, and leaves my skin feeling really fresh. I believe it also has HA which has kept my skin feeling really plump and hydrated Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 This sunscreen leaves my skin looking sooo radiant and glowing - it’s not oily at all and feels soooo good on the skin but my biggest issue is that it pills!! Definitely a no no for days when I want to wear foundation 😫 It’s great for no makeup days but otherwise i’m looking for something new. So this is just the beginning.. open to all and any thoughts ☺️

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
