So are pimple patches necessarily effective? ✨

avatar
Mallory
Firstly, I want to give a huge thank you to Hero Cosmetics for sending me their entire acne line as a giveaway prize ✨ I have used their original, invisible, and surface patches in the past and loved them. Pimple patches are stickers made of hydrocolloid (a moisture absorbing dressing). These stickers adhere to the face to dry out the pimples as well as provide protection from picking, external bacteria, and sunlight to speed up the healing the process. They also sometimes include acne fighting ingredients to help with the process. Is it good for all acne? It’s very important to realize what kind of acne is good for patches and what isn’t. Pimple patches (this is coming from research and personal experience) are meant for superficial acne. These are pustules (blemishes containing pus), blackheads, and whiteheads. When it comes to cystic acne or what I call “underground” pimples the patch simply doesn’t penetrate enough to be effective. So they are 100% effective? Not always. The pimple really needs to have some kind of liquid for the patch the soak up (aka it’s main purpose). But that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth it or effective. I personally use pimple patches for protection the majority of the time. Especially with maskne being so prevalent it will create a barrier between your mask and the acne so bacteria isn’t being introduced. How do I use them? First, I cleanse my face. Then I will dry off just the area I’m adhering the patch to. Sometimes I will add salicylic acid to the pimple depending on the situation. Then I apply the patch before I do any other skincare. I do this because I don’t want moisture getting trapped under the patch. Then I go in with the rest of my skincare. I usually leave the patches on for no more than 24 hours. I also have a friend who puts them on before she does her make up for work. We wear a mask all day so you don’t see them until she takes her mask off. It creates a barrier keeping the make up and mask bacteria out. My favorite patches to use are the HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original for Madewell
and HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Invisible+ for Madewell
. I’ve also used the Truly Beauty ones in the past and while I like them they don’t blend into the skin like the Mighty Patch does. They also don’t stick as well as the Mighty Patch. The original does a pretty good job at blending into my skin but the invisible is the way to go if you’re going to be out in public with it on. I’ve also used the HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Surface for Madewell
in the past and while it has the same power as the original and invisible it was quite painful to take off (while the other ones are not). So long story short yes, I do think pimple patches are effective if you go into it knowing what they can and can’t do. They can be amazing tools to help heal blemishes but they aren’t a miracle worker.

bealizbeautyI’ve definitely had ups and downs when it comes to pimple patches but I haven’t tried the mighty patch ones. I hear good things!

MallorySame! Like it has to be a real specific time of pimple to see results. But I like these ones the best! These tend to stick on the skin, from what I’ve seen, the best. I’m a side sleeper so most things peel off but these don’t.

Hero Cosmetics... Hormonal Acne.. Bruh Girl
Disclaimer I am not a professional or influencer and anything but a 29 Year Old Bruhh Girl with a skincare addiction and battle with Sh***y skin for my entire life!!! I recently moved from NY to FL about 7 months ago and my skin did not agree with the change, or I have just entered into a new phase... I’m thinking Hormonal Acne but I have not been seen by any professionals... Since Aug 2020 I have been on the hunt like seriously I’ve been hunting down the elite skincare routine for my skin!!! Yes I spent way too much money on legit every TikTok trend my boyfriend every week would be like “let me guess TikTok made u buy it” but all in all he supports the chase since he knows how much it means to me to have that glowing smooth skin... Also I should add I’m an extreme picker like it’s terrible I hope you’ve enjoyed this rant... let me know if you’d like to see more products I’ve purchased ❤️ #Hero Cosmetics - Clear Collective Trio[products]#[FiveStars] This stuff is just pure magic, it’s affordable $35 for the set, a little goes a long way, packaging is beautiful, and just works so well. I’ve been using this set AM / PM for the last 7 days and I can already set see such a difference 😍 I finally feel like I have found a simple and affordable line of products that just do the job! The only thing I didn’t love at first was that all of the products have absolutely no scent, and the cream felt a little thick but you seriously only need a pea size for full face! HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original for Madewell These are life savers, and the 24 pack is only $8, like I’ve mentioned I’m a picker! I’ve been really forcing myself to remember to use these first signs of a pimple and whelp they never disappoint. Plus it’s kinda satisfying waking up seeing that they worked and peeling off the patch and no longer having a painful bump 🙌🏻🙌🏻 HERO COSMETICS - Lightening Wand I purchased the travel size of this product to give it a try, since I am a picker often my post pimple healing phase can last weeks of redness / scabs ... this has deff been helping with the redness and healing period but after some reading I think I will be giving the Rescue Balm a try. The lighting wand is easy to use but the travel is $10 and full size $20, and the Rescue Balm is $13, personally I feel like this may be more useful for post acne scars rather than healing process.

Things that helped me with acne 🪵
The Cosrx aha and bha toner helped me with exfoliating and letting products absorb better. The CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol helped with my hyperpigmentation and pores. My current favorite Differin Gel is helping me with my dark spots and acne. The Hero Cosmetics Lightning Wand is helping me fade my dark spots and hyperpigmentation. I have used the Netrogena Benzoyle Peroxide for so long and it’s helped me control my acne. And lastly The Inky List bha serum helped me with my black and white heads.

End of Day 8, Before Routine
Hey guys! Sorry I haven't posted in a few days, I've been caught up with work but still continuing my routine. These pictures were taken before washing my face today just to see if there's been any improvement. So far I've noticed my acne isn't the main issue today, it's the red spots. I have a few pimples here and there compared to how it was at the beginning of this week. I am still waiting to receive my products from Hero Cosmetics, and I am looking forward to trying out the HERO COSMETICS - Micropoint for Blemishes, HERO COSMETICS - Rescue Balm, and the HERO COSMETICS - Lightening Wandthe most! I will keep you guys updated and thank you for being here with me on my journey to healthier skin (:

Heatless Curls & Beneath The Makeup
This weekend I decided to revisit my Curl Formers to get this look. I wanted some curls but I did not want to put any heat on my hair so I decided to give these a try. I usually use them on wet hair but I decided to use them on air dried hair and this is how they turned out. Curl formers are similar to flexirods but they give you a spiral curl instead of a cork screw curl. I was having a few breakouts but I really wanted to get all dolled up for the day and this foundation was calling my name. So to avoid irritating my skin even more by applying makeup over my breakouts I thought I would try putting a few hero patches beneath my foundation. This was my first time trying both this foundation and wearing these patches beneath my makeup. I had about 5 patches on but only two of them are really obvious. I’m surprised how well it blended into my skin. Also my breakouts were no longer irritated or inflamed by the end of the day when I was ready to remove my makeup. Once I got past the uncomfortable feeling of thinking about what I looked like wearing the patches with my foundation, I was fine. I’m obviously not a dermatologist or anything but FOR ME I liked having a barrier between my skin and the foundation that could treat my skin while still being able to enjoy getting glammed up and wearing foundation. Let me know if you have any tips, tricks, or skin hacks you like to do when you have a breakout. Do you go bare face or just apply makeup directly over your breakout? Do you have a go to method for heatless curls? I’m curious to know what others are trying. PIMPLES-GOOD RIDDANCE! (part 1)
A pimple is a part of everyone’s path and in the time I’ve lived, I encountered many a pimple and each time I obsess over it trying to find the most perfect spot treatment. I think just about anyone can relate. Below is my experience and thoughts on some of the things I’ve tried. A remedy for every pimple type! Kate Somerville - EradiKate Acne Treatment For night time application only. Very drying and funky (contains alcohol, an irritant to skin but works so well I can’t resist.) Most effective on a surfacing pimple (not the screaming kind). Pimple cleared within 1-2 days. Not for cystic acne. HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Invisible+ for Madewell $0.46 per sticker. Surprisingly super sticky and long lasting. As “invisible” as it gets, it blurs acne from afar. You can wear it under make up. Matte enough to wear out in public. Specific for pimples that look prime and ready to pop (note to self: resist the urge to squeeze). YES SISTERS!! This is it! It sucks everything up which gives me a close satisfying feeling to watching Dr. Pimple Popper pop that goody goody for good. alba BOTANICA - Acne Pimple Patch $0.19 per sticker. A cheaper alternative to the Mighty Patch. Contains ingredients like tea tree oil and witch hazel to help calm the pimple. Matte finish but not as thin as the Mighty Patch. Not that sticky, some fall off and gets stuck to my pillow at night. The outer edge circumference starts to lose its adhesiveness throughout the day (be brave enough to wear it in public, it helps!). If I wrote YES SISTERS for the Mighty Patch, this is more like a yes sisters. I use the Mighty Patch until most of the gunk is gone (around 1-2 nights) and if the pimple is still there then I switch and use Alba Botanica pimple patch to absorb any remaining fluids. PETER THOMAS ROTH - Acne Patches $0.44 per sticker. Glossy finish. It has different ingredients like salicylic acid and tea tree oil that helps soothe that flaring spot without drying you as it also contains hyaluronic acid. For best results, use on pimples that hasn’t come to a head yet. The adhesive is pretty top notch unless it’s worn in moist conditions. It has helped me prevent so many almost cystic pimples. I would be at a loss without it. If you know any other effective products feel free to share so I can experience the same joys of eliminating pimples with you! 🤩 For more tips on how to say goodbye to that pimple, check out my other post Pimples-Good Riddance Part 2.

Differin progress... is this a purge or what?
Sorry this is gross.. I know my skin isn’t pretty right now. Today marks the 4th week I’ve been on DIFFERIN - 0.1% Adapalene Acne Treatment Gel Pump and also my new birth control (yaz). I have literally never, EVER seen my skin this awful and angry. Should I stick it out until the and of 12 weeks? Does this look like a purge or just a flat out breakout?! I’m freaking out.. I don’t even want to go outside looking like this. I’m also using Cetaphil - Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream am and pm, and cleansing with CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser . Not looking to add any more products. Sometimes I use a hydrating toner. The dryness and peeling has subsided but the pimples do hurt, my cheeks are tender to the touch and sometimes itchy but that has gotten better over time also. Please help!!!!! EDIT: i just bought the DIFFERIN - Daily Deep Cleanser BPO 5%, Neutrogena - On-the-Spot Acne Treatmentand HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original for Madewellto hopefully combat the horrible breakouts pictured above. just praying it doesnt over dry my skin.

These products are one of those things that I think everyone needs in their medicine cabinet. Pimple patches are a new innovated way to treat pimples without drying out your skin with harsh treatments. There are different kinds of patches though depending on what type of break out you have. For whiteheads: HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original for Madewell This patch is 100% hydrocolloid. You put these on dry skin over night (or whenever you want really) and by the morning or in a min of 6 hours you’ll see the gunk that the patch pulled out of your pimple. Once you take the patch off the pimple will be basically gone. These truly are incredible. For those deep under the skin pimples: HERO COSMETICS - Micropoint for Blemishes You know those horrible painful blemishes we get sometimes that don’t come to a head but are just this angry red bump of evil? These work wonderfully to kill that yucky spot with 173 micropoints that deliver the treatment (0.5% salicylic acid) to the pimple. When you apply these you have to push down for roughly 30 seconds and you can feel the points going into the pimple , it doesn’t hurt. By morning my angry demons where reduced or they came to a head where I could put the normal dots on and suck everything out without having to squeeze and irritate it more. Aftercare: HERO COSMETICS - Rescue Balm Now, sometimes after these pimple patches you are still left with a red dot on your face and some dryness. This cream is perfect for that! It is formulated with panthenol, beta glucan, and oligopeptides to not only moisturize and heal but to also gently exfoliate. This has toned down a lot of the inflammation I get with pimples! I also use it when I sometimes get out of hand and pop the zit because I have 0 self control.

the best pimple patches!!
the best pimple patches!!
ummmm these are hands down the best pimple patches i’ve ever tried!! and i’ve gone thru manyyyyy. the price kinda steered me away when comparing them to other pimple patches (they’re $16.99 when you include shipping compared to cheaper $5 ones). But once i tried these i was like yo these ACTUALLY work every time and i think about how it was more of a waste of money to be buying cheaper pimple patches that don’t even work properly. i’ve tried COSRX - COSRX Pimple Patch Set they’re okayy. felt like i still was left with a scar after. i’ve tried nexcare and the creme... just no ❤️ Hero cosmetics comes with 36 patches and it’ll last me a good 3-4 months. i’ll wear these in public sometimes and you barely notice cuz they’re so thin and transparent. they also have invisible patches which are made for the daytime and work just as well.

Are pimple patches worth it?
Are pimple patches worth it?
I have finally hopped on the pimple patch bandwagon due to desperation! I developed a whitehead on my upper lip about a week after getting my lip threaded (another form of hair removal). And guess who is going to see their boyfriend in FOUR days? 🙂 I quickly ran to the the store two days ago to find a (hopefully) quick fix and settled on a pimple patch. •HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original for Madewell Application and removal was self-explanatory. The instructions advise you to leave it on a minimum of six hours so I just slept with it on overnight both nights. After using these for the past two nights they visibly appear to have helped. Now there is still a red spot on my face, but is is mostly flat. Any puss/ickyness that was inside the pimple is mostly gone now. There is a slight residue when initially taking the patch off, but once rinsing/washing your face it goes away. Overall, I would use these if you were in a pinch and looking for a way to flatten out a pimple. I’m still going to have to wear makeup to cover the redness, but that’ll be much easier to do now that it is not textured/raised. I will continue using these for small, whiteheads. Acne is normal, Emma

Differin Gel Adapelene (retinol) THE BEST!!
Differin Gel Adapelene (retinol) THE BEST!!
Posted on 12/10/19 💙 . . I started differin gel on October 25th so it’s been 6 weeks. I knew there would be purging and I’d seen all the reviews saying how bad it gets, but I decided to purchase it anyways. LET ME SAY.. best decision ever!! . . STORY TIME: I’ve had acne since the 6th grade (little bumps on my forehead, cystic acne, white heads...you name it), and I’d always thought that I didn’t want to touch or do anything with my face because I thought I would make it worse. I’d use apple cider vinegar every night.. and while this did do something, it didn’t do anything in the long term. Fast forward 6 weeks ago.. and I started @differinus . After only using it for 2 days.. I started breaking out all over. I kept telling myself the end was near, but then another breakout would happen and I would be at square one again. Last week, however, I started seeing SUCH a difference. I have no new breakouts and my skin is getting clearer and clearer! I will of course keep doing my skincare routine and using TONS of moisturizer.. but I’m so excited to see even more results in the next couple of days, weeks, and months! 😭💙 . . Swipe for the BEFORE (3rd photo) and AFTER (4th photo)! So happy with this change and recommend differin gel absolutely! Just be ready for the purge and make sure to moisturize, moisturize, MOISTURIZE!! Ps- my purge lasted for 5 weeks!

Aloe Vera for Acne 😍🌟
Aloe Vera for Acne 😍🌟
One of the cheapest and most effective acne treatments you should try is ALOE VERA! What Aloe Vera Can Do for Acne Pure, all-natural aloe vera can replace your cleanser or be your moisturizer every night. It boosts blood flow to the face and kills harmful (acne-causing) bacteria. How Long Should I Wait to See Results Results won’t happen overnight. Ideally, you want to apply this at least once a day to see improvements in acne scarring and breakouts. Remember that skin cell turnover for someone in their mid-20s is anywhere between 28-35 days. So, you need to be patient. In the meantime, your skin will feel less irritated and calmer overall. How to Use Aloe Vera? Get an aloe stem from the supermarket or your local plant nursery. Cut the stem and get the crystal. Make sure to wash the crystal using water to get rid of the iodine or yellow liquid you see as this can be toxic. Then, place the crystals in the fridge and use them as needed. All you have to do is cut a small square and rub the crystal all over your face. This can stay on the fridge for 3-5 days. Another great way to use aloe is by making aloe ice cubes. 🧊 This is my favorite way of using it because the ice helps boost even more blood flow to the area, which increases collagen production, closes pores, and gives you a subtle lifting effect. Plus, this way, your crystals can last longer.

If you don’t have these already you need them
If you don’t have these already you need them
I want to take some time to tell you all about this amazing product that has honestly helped with my acne so much AVARELLE - Acne Cover Patch these little patches are legit magic! They work to clear up new pimples over night and help recovery time. Let me tell you a little bit about how they work. 🧡Acne patches like this one have an active ingredient called Hydrocolloid which adheres to the skin surrounds the wound and helps keep newly healed skin intact. These patches work to absorb all the fluid in your pimple, pulling out the gross stuff, while protecting the pimple from picking or scratching. It is best to wear these patches at night and see the results in the morning. It works best on whiteheads and already exposed pimples. Unfortunately the results aren’t as great when it comes to cystic acne as it is only a topical treatment. I see results overnight! After wearing them to bed I see dramatic changes in the look of the pimples, they are less inflamed, usually the white head is gone, and it is no longer as raised or red as it was the evening before. 🧡One thing I also LOVE about these patches in particular is they come in a wide range of sizes, there are many different size patches to meet your coverage needs. There are even large 50mm sized patch squares that can cover areas like the cheeks and forehead more effectively if you are dealing with a large breakout, which can even be cut to better cover the area if need be. 🧡Most of these patches are also formulated with other ingredients like Tea Tree Oil, Calendula Oil, and Rosehip Seed Oil, which all have healing and anti inflammatory properties that help heal the breakout even farther. 🧡The last thing that I love about these patches and why I highly recommend them to people is the price point. These patches I bought off of Amazon for around $7.50 and they come with 40 patches. So this is definitely more budget friendly than other products with the same active ingredients. 🧡To summarize I can tell y’all how many times these little guys have saved me from a big painful breakout that is hard to coverup or treat without them. And they are 100% worth the money, this is probably my 3rd-4th purchase of a pack like this over the last couple years. I can’t recommend this enough. ✨As a disclaimer, I acknowledge that everyone’s skin is different and what worked for me doesn’t mean that it will work for everyone. In my reviews I only hope to explain my experience and give my honest opinions on the products, I would never recommend something that at the very least didn’t work for me✨
