Trending: spot treatments ✨
With maskne being a common occurrence lately I’ve seen an increase in demand for spot treatments. What used to be just for acne prone individuals is now popular for most individuals. A spot treatment is usually a topical cream or gel that is used to treatment blemishes. Typically these contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or sulfur. My holy grail spot treatment is the CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel . This is a gel formula contain 1.5% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid goes into the pores to clean out any dirt, debris, or sebum blocking it. It also helps to reduce pimple size and inflammation within a few hours. This gel absorbs so easily into the skin so a little goes a very long way. It comes in two sizes (.5 oz and 1 oz) which I have the bigger one and it was $27.50. This tube easily lasts me all year. I had a really bad bout of chin acne two years ago and this was the only thing that helped. A new product to me is the VERSED - Game Over Acne Drying Treatment . This is a cream formulation with 10% sulfur. Sulfur helps dry out the blemish and absorb excess sebum. It helps fight bacteria in the pores while removing dead skin cells. It only comes in one size (.5 oz) and retails for $16.99. It also is made out of 79% post consumer recycled plastic. This cream formulation dries down on the blemish which makes it easy to night time use. I’m a side sleeper and a lot of dry down acne products wipe right off. It’s definitely helped with some acne spots but it’s not as good as the Clinique. Lastly, I’ve used the MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion in the past and despite it being a cult product I don’t like it. It’s a calamine lotion suspended in an alcohol formula (it also contains salicylic acid and sulfur). The alcohol smells so strong and stings the skin. It dries out the blemish but alcohol is so stripping to the skin it has potential to increase inflammation which also can lead to hyperpigmentation. It does dry down but as I sleep it wipes right off my face. This is a brand I tend to avoid all together.

Debbie Thornberry Halloween Make-Up 🖤🧡
As promised from yesterday’s post (if you haven’t seen it go check it out I have a tutorial on how to do this hair) here is the make up inspiration for Debbie Thornberry. I grew up with The Wild Thornberrys amongst other great cartoons from the late 90s and early 2000s. Debbie was my favorite character on the show. When I got my TIGI - A Wave We Go Adjustable Deep Waver and used it for the first time she was immediately what popped into my head. Base: For the base I started off with the laura mercier - Pure Canvas Primer - Hydrating purely because my skin has been a little drier with the weather change. This is a must for dry skin. It has a lightweight cream formula that adds hydration without being too heavy. Plus it’s silicone free (which doesn’t bother me but I know it’s important to some people). Then I used my favorite ESTĒE LAUDER - Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation in the shade 1N0. Afterwards I went in with my new laura mercier - Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer in the shade .5 N. I’m obsessed with this stuff! It has the coverage of Shape Tape without being so heavy. It’s very creamy and opaque. It’s been a huge winner for me lately. Then I set everything with the laura mercier - Translucent Loose Setting Powder and laura mercier - Secret Brightening Powder for Under Eyes Eyes: Debbie doesnt really wear much make up so I decided to keep it really simple. I used the KVD VEGAN BEAUTY - Dagger Tattoo Liner Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner to draw a wing as her eye shape is very angular. I used the benefit - BADgal BANG! 24 Hour Eye Pencil in my waterline and the benefit - Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara to finish off the eyes. I kept the brows pretty simple too only using the benefit - Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel in shade 4.5 for some color. Blush/Bronzer: To me it doesn’t look like Debbie wears blush or bronzer but I wanted to update the look a little so I did. I used the third shade in the NYX - Highlight & Contour Pro Palette for my contour. It’s a really nice, cool toned contour that blends out perfectly on the skin. I also mixed the two blushes from the HOURGLASS - Ambient Lighting Face Palette and placed them on the apples of the cheeks to brighten up the face. Lips: For lips I chose the stila - Shine Fever Lip Vinyl in Turbo. With the time period of the show I didn’t imagine liquid lipsticks would be a huge thing so I decided to go with more of a gloss. This lip vinyl is a perfect opaque gloss with a mauve tone to it. It’s definitely not transfer proof and will slide around if you’re not careful (definitely not mask friendly).

Debbie Thornberry Halloween Hair Tutorial 🧡🖤
Halloween is almost two weeks away which means it’s time for some Halloween inspiration! I’m not usually one for dressing up but I got the TIGI - A Wave We Go Adjustable Deep Waver at Ulta during their Gorgeous Hair event and it brought my back to an old cartoon favorite. I can’t be the only one who grew up watching The Wild Thornberrys and idolizing Debbie. I have really wavy, frizzy, and thick hair so I always start off any style with straightening it. That way I get a nice base for my style. I always use the IGK - Good Behavior Spirulina Protein Anti-Frizz Smoothing Spray when I heat style my hair. This spray protects the hair, cuts down on frizz, and smells really good. I spray it all over my hair and brush through. Normally I spray it on each section but for the purpose of the video I sprayed it all over. To do the waves I section off my hair into three horizontal parts and work my way up. This adjustable hair waver retails for $39.99 (I got mine for $20 during the event) and has 4 different wave plate heights. It’s ceramic, heats up to 400 degrees F, and has an auto shut off feature with it really nice. It’s really easy to use too! I just take a section of my hair and start as close to the root as possible. I place the iron on the hair for about 30 seconds and then move the plate down to the next section below my initial crimp. I work my way down the strand until it’s all crimped. I work my way around my head and then start with a new horizontal section. It’s really easy and takes me about 15 minutes to do my whole head if that. I’m hoping to post a make up tutorial on this look at well as it’s very simple and easy to do. I also pulled clothes out of my closet for the look. I didn’t add any other styling products but if you wanted to top it off with a texture spray or hair spray that would help with the waves. The way my hair is parted majorly on the side helped with her hair style. On the one side of her hair she has a lot of volume which I too have because most my hair is on that one side. I just pushed that one side a little bit in front of my face and the look was complete. What is everyone else doing for Halloween?

Trending Super Ingredient: Collagen ✨
Collagen has been a trending super ingredient for what seems like some time now! There are even brands (like Elemis and Algenist) who take this ingredient to a whole new level and create entire lines dedicated to them. I wanted to take a second and talk about what collagen can (and can’t) do for the skin. Collagen is a protein that provides structure to the majority of your body. It provides the firmness and strength of the skin. It is something your body produces naturally but at the age of 25 the production slows down. The skincare market has turned the term collagen into an anti-aging buzzword. I’ve seen many claims that it can help stimulate collagen growth but this isn’t true. The only thing topically applied collagen will do is moisturize the skin. It’s a great moisturizer at that but the molecule is too large to penetrate the top layer of skin therefore most “benefits” brands claim with it are not true. I wanted to break down some products that I’ve had the pleasure of trying (which were gifted by Elemis except for the little marine cream SPF 30 which I got in gratis) that contain collagen. Despite collagen not being the super anti aging powerhouse the market makes it seem to be I do like these products. First, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF 30 is a lightweight cream perfect for the morning. I have oily yet dehydrated skin but I’ve noticed as the weather has been changing it’s been slightly more dry so I’ve been using this. It absorbs really well and has a really pleasant berry smell (I don’t normally care for scents in skincare but I make exceptions as my face isn’t sensitized right now). Next, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Eye Revive Mask has been my FAVORITE go to night eye cream. It has a thick gel consistency which feels amazing under the eyes. It’s really moisturizing and luxurious. Next, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Marine Cream Ultra-Rich which I’ve personally been using as a neck cream at night. This cream has a thicker consistency compared to the regular marine cream making it perfect for those with dry skin. It’s very moisturizing and smells like the normal marine cream. Next, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Energising Marine Cleanser is something that I hate that I like it so much because it’s over priced for a cleanser (tbh everything Elemis is overpriced and I only recommend it if you have the money to spend/want to). It smells AMAZING like the marine cream (which I’m okay with since it’s a wash off treatment). It’s a gel consistency that lathers really well without stripping the skin. It does a really good job cleansing my face and I’ve yet to have it feel stripped. Finally, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm which I do think is very moisturizing like the whole line but it’s not my favorite cleansing balm. It washes off nice but it’s a bit goopy in consistency and the vapors irritate my eyes.

Sample Saturday: Brazilian 4 Play shower cream ☀
Anyone else have a whole box full of sample packets from Sephora and Ulta orders?? I want to try (I’m going to preface with try because I know how I am 😂) and go through these samples by using one for a week starting on Sunday and posting a review on Saturday. The first one up is the SOL de Janeiro - Brazilian 4 Play Moisturizing Shower Cream-Gel which I got in a Sephora order. Sol De Janeiro can be found at Sephora and was inspired by the co-founders growing up/living in Brazil. I’ve used their Bum Bum cream for years (which is their staple product and a lot of you have probably seen my Bum Bum tower in a lot of my photos) but the body wash was something that was always on my radar but I never tried. Despite having oily skin on my face my body is the completely opposite. I have severely dry body skin with occasional eczema flare ups. Dry skin drives me absolutely nuts (to the point where if my hands or feet feel dry in the middle of the night I will wake up, put on lotion, and go back to bed). I don’t know how but I managed to make this sample packet stretch all week for my showers. It has a gel cream consistency that lathers up really well in the shower. I was able to make a little bit go a very long way. It smells even better than the bum bum cream!! It’s super similar but there is like a hint of something else (in my opinion) that takes it a step ahead. It also feels so silky smooth when you use it in the shower. It has cupuacu butter which is very hydrating to the skin. So I’m very adamant about always using moisturizer but sometimes I forget to use a body moisturizer and I felt with this the days I forgot my skin didn’t feel dry and stripped. It felt pretty moisturized which I was happy about. The smell didn’t linger on the skin afterwards as much as I wanted it to but the scent is the shower was enough for me to be satisfied. It also didn’t flare up my eczema which some scented body products can which made me happy! This is definitely something I’m going to be asking for for Christmas.

Holiday hair kits ✨
Anyone else get super excited when the holiday kits start rolling into stores? Amika gifted me their Brooklyn Hustle Bestsellers kit. This kit includes: Perk Up dry shampoo 5.3 oz (full size) Soulfood nourishing mask 3.3 oz Supernova moisture and shine cream 1 oz The best part about this kit is it’s only $28. The full size Perk Up dry shampoo just by itself is $25. So for $3 more you’re getting a deluxe size of the mask and a mini of the shine cream. The amika: - Perk Up Talc-Free Dry Shampoo is my second favorite dry shampoo. This is my favorite to use on day 2 or 3 hair as it absorbs the oils really well and leaves your hair super soft and tousled. Instead of feeling texture that some dry shampoos can have (which I do like for styling) it doesn’t feel like anything is in it. I also don’t notice a white caste when using this which I know can be a deal breaker for a lot of people. It does have that signature Amika smell but I don’t find it over powering. I highly recommend this kit for any dry shampoo fiends out there!! The amika: - Soulfood Nourishing Mask one of my favorite hair masks! I use this one about once a week. It has your typical cream mask consistency and a little goes a long way which is nice. It also has that signature Amika scent to it. Thankfully my hair isn’t as damaged as it used to be but I contribute Amika masks to that. I used to not be able to run my fingers through it wet but since I’ve been using this and the flash instant mask by them my hair is so soft and detangles so easily. The amika: - Supernova Moisture and Shine Cream is a new product for me but I have been liking it. I have really dry ends to I’ve been adding a little bit to my ends when I style. It’s really lightweight and not sticky so it doesn’t weigh down my hair which is such a positive when I wear it curly.

Help Me, Cherie-Wan Kenobi. You are my only hope
I have a problem. That problem is sunscreen. I have tried about 20-30 sunscreens in my life and they all broke me out until I found glossier. The problem is that, as a queer person, I can’t support a company that does hatm to my trans family nor my Black and Brown family in spirit. I need help. I need a new sunscreen The sunscreen can be up to 40 dollars. It can’t contain: dimethicone nor animal ingredients nor actives. Can anyone help me? Thank you 🙏🏻
My power lip colour! | 🌹💪🏻💋
I’ve seen a few of you beauties (shout out @madihomewoodand @Mallory♥️) posting about your power lip colours, and here I am to share mine! These are colours that make you feel powerful, beautiful, and like your best self, ready to take on the world. I’ve always been a fan of a red lip - I got super interested in pin-up and burlesque culture at a young age, so it was only natural that this classic colour became my favourite to wear. I’ve experimented with every formula under the sun and found what works best for which situation, as well as discovering just how many shades of red are out there. It’s crazy what a difference just a slight undertone can make! I don’t necessarily have one top favourite product when it comes to a red lip, but here are a few that I find myself reaching for most often: ✨ Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Cruella” - This is a neutral toned, medium-dark red. It has a matte finish and almost acts as a stain even when you’ve taken it off. $35CAD. ✨ MAC Matte Lipstick in “Russian Red” - A cult classic! With blue undertones and a matte finish, this red will flatter nearly everyone. $24CAD. ✨ KVD Vegan Beauty Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in “Outlaw,” “Nahz Fur Atoo,” and “Project Chimps (discontinued)” - All of these reds are slightly different, ranging from almost brick/deep terracotta, to a warm medium-dark, to a bright, blue-red. They have a matte finish and will stay. all. day. without a doubt! $28CAD. I love all of these products so much, but am always searching for another to add to my (probably too big…lol) collection of reds. 💸 I’d love to see you guys share what lip colour makes you feel good! Despite wearing masks and not focussing on them as much anymore, I think the power of a good lip colour is unmatched in the makeup world. 💄
Tis The Season for Healthy Hair 💇🏽♀️
I love this time of the year because this is when brands start to release their holiday sets, so you can imagine my excitement when Amika gifted me their Brooklyn Hustle bestsellers starter kit! I am no stranger to Amika hair products - they are one of my top favorite hair care brands. The name of this set, Brooklyn Hustle, is so fitting because all three products are perfect for sprucing up your hair in a pinch! 🧡 Included in this set: 🌟 𝒫𝑒𝓇𝓀 𝒰𝓅 𝒟𝓇𝓎 𝒮𝒽𝒶𝓂𝓅𝑜𝑜 - This is one of, if not Amika’s number one bestselling product! Believe it or not, I never even tried dry shampoo before until about a year ago (shocking, I know) - and I have relatively dark hair, so I am generally weary about dry shampoos leaving a white cast, but not with Perk Up! Perk Up effectively refreshes my hair, leaving no white cast or residue behind, doesn’t gunk up on my scalp & smells amazing! 💜 𝒮𝑜𝓊𝓁𝒻𝑜𝑜𝒹 𝒩𝑜𝓊𝓇𝒾𝓈𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝑀𝒶𝓈𝓀 - This rich hair mask helps restore your hair to provide nourishment to keep it soft, hydrated & healthy looking! Leave in for just 5-7 minutes & rinse; great hair mask that could be used daily or weekly. I personally use it on a weekly basis & leave in while I shave. 🧡 𝒮𝓊𝓅𝑒𝓇𝓃𝑜𝓋𝒶 𝑀𝑜𝒾𝓈𝓉𝓊𝓇𝑒 + 𝒮𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑒 𝒞𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓂 - This is my personal favorite from the set, and one of my top favorite products from Amika in general. As someone with naturally curly & frizzy hair, and sometimes drying (especially this time of year), this is a GO TO for me! This not only calms down the frizziness of my hair, but also gives my hair a healthy, shinier appearance (never greasy looking). Best quality? This leave in cream doesn’t weigh down my hair or leave my hair feeling crunchy! 🧡 Available now at Sephora and loveamika.com for $28! 💜 amika: - Brooklyn Hustle Haircare Bestsellers Starter Set

Loving this chemical peel!
Am I the only one who went out and bought this because of Tik Tok? I sure hope not🤦🏼♀️ - The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a great chemical exfoliant if you’re looking for something deep exfoliating on a budget! The AHA’s work on that topmost layer of skin for a smoother & brighter look and the BHA’s help with pore congestion. So this mask pretty much does it all. You’re only supposed to use it at most twice a week and be sure to not leave it on for over ten minutes. Thats how much power this mask has! - At first I wasn’t too sure about it (and yes it does burn at first) but after I tried it for the second time I noticed how much smoother and brighter my complexion already was. For being such a good price I was shocked! It also has helped a lot with a few small scars I had on my face. Definitely wouldn’t use on sensitive skin.
