Say Hello to PHA’S 👋🏻
PHA stands for polyhydroxy acid. PHA’s are nothing new but they don’t get as much attention as the AHA’s and BHA’s we see everywhere.
To figure out exactly which one the product contains you’d you have to read through the full ingredients list. And even then it may not be obvious. Instead of gluconolactone, for example, the ingredient may be listed as gluconic acid, zinc gluconate, or copper gluconate. (Technically gluconolactone is a sugar alcohol while zinc gluconate is a salt.) They all do basically the same thing when it comes to exfoliation, but the research that exists on these chemicals usually only focuses on one at a time. So it’s important to remember that any conclusions about one compound may not be applicable to another.
The two most important things you need to know about PHA’s are that they are both an exfoliant AND a humectant!! So not only do they get rid of the dead skin cells, they also hydrate your skin at the same time!!! This means PHA’s are gentle and can be used to help sun damage, acne, and have anti-aging properties!!PHA’s work to dissolve the bonds they hold dead skin cells together so they can be easily washed away. PHA’s have a large molecular structure so they do not penetrate as deeply into the skin as AHAs or BHAs. Although that sounds like a drawback, it’s actually a really great thing for sensitive skin types because it means that PHAs work more gently than other types of chemical exfoliants. **In a frequently cited 2004 study published in Dermatologic Surgery, researchers found evidence that gluconolactone could prevent some UV-induced damage in mouse skin cells. These same researchers also looked at the effects of gluconolactone in 11 human participants who applied two lotions to specific areas of their backs six times a day for four weeks. One lotion contained glycolic acid, one contained gluconolactone, and a third designated area didn’t get any lotion. After that time the researchers exposed a 1 cm area of the application sites to a device that simulates UV rays from the sun and then those areas were biopsied. Using the biopsied tissue, the researchers saw that the skin areas where the glycolic acid lotion had been applied showed an increased number of sunburn cells compared to the control area whereas the areas where gluconolactone had been applied did not. The big takeaway here is that gluconolactone in this study didn’t contribute to photosensitivity, something that’s a known issue with AHAs and BHAs!!! ** Some products with PHA’s Glossier. - Solution Exfoliating Skin Perfector COSRX - Low pH PHA Barrier Mist Dr. Jart+ - Dermaclear Micro Milk Peel HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum
🌙 CURRENT NIGHTTIME ROUTINE 🌙
My biggest skincare goals right now are focused on texture and hydration. I find it can be challenging to find a routine that is balanced in exfoliants and hydrating/ calming products. I’ve tried to rush my skin into results and it never works, and while I wouldn’t consider this my “holy grail routine” it’s something that’s working for me right now to target specifically texture, without drying out my skin. Here’s what I’m using, and why I love it! 1st cleanse: EARTH HARBOR - Sunshine Dew Antioxidant Cleansing Oil a heavenly smelling, effective oil cleanser that gently removes any sunscreen, makeup, or gunk from the day. 2nd Cleanse: CLARISMA - Cool Ocean Breeze Daily Cleanser this cleanser has really been the driver in retexuring my skin, the fruit enzymes in this cleanser are gentle exfoliants that didn’t give the dead skin cells on my face a chance! It really brightened and purified my skin. Serum: #Intoxicated Cosmetics - Snail Venom Serum[products]#[FiveStars] I just did a results post of this serum, and was amazed and how effective this serum was! Check out the post, you gotta see it to believe it 😉 Eye Cream: FARMACY - Cheer Up Brightening Vitamin C Eye Cream with Acerola Cherry I like this eye cream, nice texture and good brightening results! I’ve enjoyed using this eye cream but will probably go back to BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream when this pot is finished. Treatment: HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum I love this natural retinol alternative! I’ve been nervous to integrate a retinol into my routine so I’ve been happy to use this alternative as a placeholder. Great hydrating and plumping qualities! Moisturizer: SATURDAY SKIN - Waterfall Glacier Water Cream love the bouncy gel texture of this cream. I like that it’s a little bit cooling upon application, calms my skin and makes me feel ready to catch some zzZZzzZ’s. If my skins feeling really dry I’ll add 1-2 drops of HERBIVORE - Emerald CBD + Adaptogens Deep Moisture Glow Oil to my moisturizers, this oil is amazing for hydrating, calming and reducing redness! And of course lip care! I always slather on a nice coating of SUMMER FRIDAYS - Lip Butter Balm before bed, smells amazing and gives my lips a nice drink! Helps me wake up with soft, hydrated lips. I also have been rotating these three masks and using each once per week! LATHER - Honey Moisture Mask with Propolis Extract : For deep hydration, and soothing dermatitis flare ups. HERBIVORE - Blue Tansy Resurfacing Clarity Mask : For resurfacing. I only use this for 8-10mins at a time right now to ensure I’m not over exfoliating or over-drying my skin ORIGINS - Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores : For pores, T-zone only!
💜 WHAT THE HECK IS BAKUCHIOL💜
Bakuchiol is derived from an Ayurvedic plant and is a natural retinol alternative. Herbivore makes a Bakuchiol serum that is meant to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while sealing in hydration. I received my first little bottle of this as a free sample when I bought some other herbivore products and jumped at the chance to get another during the Sephora sale, in one of their ‘Sephora favourites’ kits. I’ve been known to over exfoliate from time to time 😰, and have been finding myself reaching for this guy at night to help calm my skin down and give it the plump it needs. 💪🏼 |PERFORMANCE| I think this product is great! I typically use it at night and have definitely seen an improvement in the overall plumpness of my skin. After a few too many days in a row using chemical exfoliants I was surprised how quickly my skin bounced back when I switched over to bakuchiol to give my skin a break from the AHA’s. 🤲🏻 |TEXTURE| this water based serum has a really cool jelly- like texture. It spreads easily across the skin and soaks in quickly 👃🏻|SCENT| unscented 💦 |INGREDIENTS| 💜Babchi Extract - known to smooth signs of fine lines and wrinkles to refine skins overall appearance. 💜Polyhydroxy Acids - gentle exfoliators that resurface skin to enhance absorption while strengthening skin by providing hydration and antioxidants. 💜Tremella Mushroom - helps to hydrate skin and retain moisture 💜Blueberry stem cells- vital antioxidants that protect the skin from environmental stress, and signs of premature aging. 💸 |VALUE| This product goes for $71 CAD, for a 30ml bottle, it’s a definitely a little bit steep but I’m seriously a sucker for herbivore products. I imagine you could probably get just as good results with a more affordable retinol, and even better with a prescription. But alas, I do like the natural, plant based alternative. 🌸 this weeks beauty buys 🌸
y’all, I recently took a good hard look at my skin with foundation on and realized things are not looking cute! upon applying foundation my skin is immediately patchy and uneven. Its probably a combo of bad foundation, and old application sponge , AND bad skin, so I am on a mission to fix all of this I decided to add THE inkey LIST - Retinol Serum into my PM routine to increase cell turnover and minimize my forehead lines and just give my skin an overall boost. I’m thinking of getting the Dr. Jart+ - Dermaclear Micro Milk Peelas my first chemical peel product for my new routine that will focus on ingredients and not just what sounds good lol I also got Kaja - Cutie Bento Creamy Lip & Cheek Duo it’s an adorable little thing that could literally fit in your pocket to touch up throughout the day. It’s moisturizing and pigmented, but on the lips it does slip off if your doing a lot. Still a very nice product and I might get the other color version which is peachy toned !
I need help!!
I don't know what these scabs are all from - but I guess it's from cystic acne right? I think I might've spread the infection to my nose by picking at the one on my chin (the red spot), which has been switching between healing and being infected for a few years. So I guess I have cystic acne then, right? What are some products that help? I appreciate anyone helping me !! ❤️❤️ A few things to add: I do have one hole on my chin right near that big red one, which sometimes is a blackhead and other times is just there infected I guess. The red spot on my left nostril oozes this yellowy stuff, same with my chin, and becomes a scab and the flakes if that cyst is disrupted/picked at/if the skin tears or moves (both of the cysts tend to hurt a lot and ooze a lot because they're on spots of my face that move a lot. I wouldn't have such a big problem if these were on my forehead or cheek) Some products I have for acne & redness: Clearasil - Daily Clear Vanishing Acne Treatment Cream Glossier. - Solution Exfoliating Skin Perfector Clean&Clear - Advantage Acne Spot Treatment Murad - Blemish Control Rapid Relief Spot Treatment Aveeno - Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser Glossier. - Super Pure Niacinamide + Zinc Serum The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
GLOSSIER SKINCARE: Reviewing It All! Part 1 ✨
Glossier is hot and happening in the beauty world. You have to been living under a rock if you are not familar with this online beauty brand. In this post, I will review part of their skincare to see if it’s worth it or not! ✨ Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser One should begin every day with a clean face - hence this starting with the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. Like the name suggests, the consistency of this facial cleanser feels jelly, but once you mix it in with water, make-up, dirt - ew! - on your face, it actually turns into a milky consistency. It is a very soft cleanser, especially good for anyone that struggles with dry, dehydrated or sensitive skin, because it does not leave your face feeling squeaky clean. It also does not sting your eyes at all. Would I recommend this product? Yes, if you have dry, dehydrated or sensitive skin and want a cleanser that is soft and leaves your skin hydrated. 🤍 Glossier. - Solution Exfoliating Skin Perfector & Glossier. - Cotton Rounds After cleansing, it's time for my favorite skincare step ever: chemical exfoliation. Unlike physical exfoliators that scrape off the surface of your skin, chemical exfoliators like the Glossier Solution gently sloughs dead cells away through chemical exfoliation using 10% of three different acids - Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), and Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) - dissolving the bonds gluing problematic dead cells to the healthy skin beneath. With daily use, expect cleared acne and blackheads, smaller pores, and reduced redness. Skin’s texture will be smoother and softer, and the fabled glow of balanced, healthy skin will be in full force. Glossier also sells these cotton rounds with a G on it. They're soft and they look pretty cute, but they're definitely nothing special. I would personally skip these, except if you are a cotton round connaisseur. Would I recommend this product? Yes, if you struggle with acne, blackheads, or an uneven skin texture. 👌🏻 Glossier. - The Super Duo : Glossier. - Super Bounce Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin B5 Serum & Glossier. - Super Pure Niacinamide + Zinc Serum & Glossier. - Super Glow Vitamin C + Magnesium Serum Even though chemical exfoliators are in my opinion the real work horse in any skincare routine, I do love to use a good serum as well. Whatever your skin needs, Glossier came out with The Super Pack - three different serums that can be used as additional supplements for your face whenever your skin needs it. See them as your little helpers whenever your skin has some special needs. They are lightweight, non-greasy, and perfect to use for any skintype. Would I recommend this product? Yes, if you have some extra coin to spend on fancy serums + cute packaging, or if you struggle finding serums that are not too heavy. 💕 #cheriecreator
Cold Brew in my Serum?🤩
My initial thought when I saw this serum was “Oh my gosh a COFFEE serum”. I quickly realized the brand had a different cold brew in mind 😂, but it was all ok once I tried it. I recently started incorporating theprimera - Black Seed Cold-Brew Serum into my skincare routine. After applying the first pump to the back of my hand, I knew that this serum would be great for all skin types and even more a dream for dry and sensitive skin gals. The serum is clear and very fluid. The texture is watery and most similar to an essence but ever so slightly thicker. I use it both in the morning and night now because of how lightweight it is. The serum sinks into the skin almost immediately and doesn’t leave behind any tackiness. Even though it’s super light, I do feel like my skin is amply moisturized and hydrated. Sometimes I’ll go in with a second round of serum if I want another boost of hydration. Another plus is that this serum’s great when layering with other products (toner, eye cream, etc). It blends in seamlessly and doesn’t seem to have any funky reactions with my other products. I don’t notice any miracles when it comes to how smooth or soft my skin is, but I noticed that my pores had a blurred effect, which is one of the highlights mentioned on the front of the bottle. I’m all about a skincare product that goes the extra step and takes place of a makeup product! This serum is such a good simple yet powerful product to have in your regimen. It’s the type of product I trust to use on any skin day, even if it’s one where I have tons of breakouts and sensitivity. It’s gentle and helps strengthen the skin barrier. However, I hesitate a little when it comes to the price point. I do think there are other serums on the market that have similar soothing and calming effects. It’s hard to say definitively as each person is different, but I’d say if you are interested in this launch, give it a go! #CherieCreator
primera-Black Seed Cold-Brew Serum
My mini @versed collection 🖤 I wanted to take this time to do two small reviews and a first impressions on these products. REVIEW: ⚡️Just Breathe - Clarifying Serum: I have been using this product for about a month now and wow, the improvement in my acne is incredible. I have very dry/sensitive/acne-prone skin and this serum does an AMAZING job at calming down all my acne, reduces the redness in my skin and I just love how gentle it is on my skin. I will be using this product for a VERY long time. I need to stock up on my few bottles soon. ⚡️ The Shortcut Overnight Facial Peel: Okay so at first I was very skeptical about this product. I wasn’t sure how well this peel would work for me, but then again I’m not familiar with peels because I never bothered to give them a try. Let me tell you.. I am so happy I bought this product. I’ve been using this twice a week for the past 3 weeks and my skin the next morning, is GLOWING. It’s perfect for acne-prone sensitive skin. Another amazing product from Versed that I will re-purchase once I finish this tube. FIRST IMPRESSION: ⚡️Found the Light - Powder w/ Vitamin C ⚡️Stroke of Brilliance- Brightening Serum: I just bought these this past week and had the chance to use them twice so far. With these type of products, you see results with a more consistent/long term use, so nothing was seen immediately, but it didn’t further irritate my acne at all, which makes me very happy. I can already tell I am going to love these two products the longer I use it. What is your favorite versed product? 😍
VERSED-FOUND THE LIGHT Powder With VC
✨as someone who lives with acne prone skin breakouts are just par for the course, but what's your go to duos in those crisis? One of mine (and I do have a few) is the centella green level calming toner and level buffet serum duo by purito🌱 ✨the kick starting repairing ingredient is the 10% of centella, also known as pennywort. I am love how the toner comes with a small amount of witch hazel a classic astringent and hyaluronic acid for moisture retention. The formula is think like bentoncosmetic BHA aloe toner but is easy to layer with the serum and other products during a routine. It spreads easy and lays evenly whether patted on with a pad or the palm🌱 ✨its partnering serum sets low on the EWG at green and comes with most of the same products but with a extra kick of centella at 49% (39% more than the toner). It works to reinforce and protect the skin barrier from external aggressors. The serum is of course thicker in a slightly cloudy clear color. It a bit sticky for me during application but it fades quickly🌱 ✨both the toner and serum are soothning for me but I definitely feel a little heat from them when I've overexfoliated. It ends quickly I feel the calming effects and all previous redness is gone. A natural treatment team that works to battle me overactive breakouts. I'm extremely please with how these two work together day or night.
ROSEN FADE ROUTINE first impressions
does this insta famous brand live up to the hype? 🤩 these are just my personal first impressions after using the kit a couple times, so take it with a grain of salt. I have oily/combo skin and am currently struggling with hyperpigmentation and small bumps, which are the exact skin concerns this routine targets. additionally, I always hear people raving about this brand.FULL TRANSPARENCY THIS PRODUCT WAS GIFTED. I’ll rate each product and then the whole routine overall at the end~ SUPER SMOOTHIE CLEANSER: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 -my favorite out of the bunch. the cap has a cool flipdown nozzle like those water bottles. The product itself is really nice and has some bits in it for exfoliating, and it did not dry out my skin. Smelled very pleasant. RECOMMEND GOLD TIDES TONER: 🌟🌟 -i don’t really understand why they would put salt in a product for acne prone skin as that probably means the person has lesions/open wounds on their face. i had a couple popped pimples and this burned on me. i do not have sensitive skin usually. NOT RECOMMEND BRIGHT CITRUS SERUM: 🌟🌟 -ooh she stung when i applied. not sure if this was also because of the previous toner but i was very surprised as i don’t have sensitive skin. it’s a very very liquidy vit c serum and the shelf life is only 3 months. NOT RECOMMEND ROSE WATER FACE DEW: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 -the bottle came half full which i was confused about, but i do like the product inside. it’s got rosehip oil and rose water, so it came separated but you just shake it to mix. the mist is very fine and it moisturized my face and made me look dewy so overall very nice. RECOMMEND i have yet to try the charcoal mask and enzyme scrub. FADE ROUTINE OVERALL FIRST RATING: 🌟🌟🌟 - the holo bag is cool, the smoothie cleanser and face dew were wonderful. i didn’t like how the products came wrapped in plastic, and the bottles themselves were also plastic. will continue to test this kit and hopefully upload a part 2. #CherieCreator

CLEAR SKIN? YES PLS😛
Who doesn’t love some AHAs & BHAs somewhere in their skincare routine? I do love them and this is a great one! Nothing crazy amazing, I would repurchase, but it gets the job done and that’s what matters! I think for the price, this is just excessive, but the product does its job, doesn’t sting or feel uncomfortable on my skin and I wake up with a slight glow and it helps my acne.☺️ I think I have another one that’s just a little better glow wise but this is a gem if you have pimples under the skin! 😘 HERBIVORE - Prism 12% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Serum

Allies of Skin: 2 MUST-HAVES!
These were the first two Allies of Skin products that I’ve ever tried and I’m SO impressed with both of them!! The Peptides and Antioxidants Firming Daily Treatment has so many amazing ingredients that are meant to combat inflammation, firm the skin, and restore your skin barrier. I have been dealing with lots of new acne since Coronavirus started and they’ve been super inflamed and painful. I started using this treatment and I can honestly day that it helped with the inflammation SO much! I’ve also noticed that acne scars have been less red and much my complexion in general is much brighter. The Molecular Multi-Nutrient Day Cream is a multi-tasking daytime moisturizer which helps reduce imperfections and reduce stress-breakouts. This moisturizer is THE PERFECT amount of hydration for my skin! It has made my skin SO soft and so smooth! It gives me a subtle glow that looks so natural- not greasy or oily at all (which a lot of other moisturizers have done 🥺). This one is just so perfect! I can apply makeup over it and it looks so good! Overall, I’m super happy with both of these products and I’m so glad that I’ve started using Allies of Skin. I’ve noticed overall less acne, less hyperpigmentation, and healthier, glowier skin. I would 10/10 recommend both of these products. If you’re interested in the brand, I definitely think you should try their products! The price point is a little higher but they are SO worth it! #CherieCreator
